United States Based Nigerian Men Are Killing Their Wives: A Case Study Written by Ken Agu Monday, 12 July 2010 05:55 Case 1: Barely a month ago , the internet was abuzz with the story of a Nigerian Pharmacist who killed his wife. Olufemi Oladapo Ademoye, 52, ran out of his house at 8615 Villa Largo Drive in north Tampa at 9:50 a.m. and asked a neighbor to call 911. He said his wife, Juliet Ademoye, had a heart attack, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. But when deputies and rescue crews arrived, they found that the master bedroom and bathroom were covered in blood. Deputies also determined that an aluminum baseball bat was covered with her blood. Juliet Ademoye, 53, was pronounced dead by Hillsborough County Fire Rescue. Before that was Michael Iheme. Case 2: On Thursday, July 24, 2008, a 50-year old Nigerian man Michael Collins Iheme shot and killed his 28-year old estranged wife, Anthonia Iheme. Iheme reportedly placed an emergency call to the police after allegedly killing his wife. He was quoted as having told policemen on arrival at the scene of the murder that he had “killed the woman that messed my life up, a woman that destroyed me.” Eye witnesses said Anthonia was shot as she left work at the Sholom Home West, an assisted-living centre. Iheme fired at the vehicle. Anthonia’s car then lurched forward, clipped a van, jumped a kerb and rolled down a hill into a fence. Iheme was said to have followed the car down the hill and fired more shots at the car. When Iheme was arrested at the scene, a semi-automatic handgun was found near his car, police said. The police also found a gun permit inside the car. Police also said that an hour and a half before the shooting, Iheme went to the day-care centre for their children and left a new emergency contact information, “in case something happened today.” Case 3: A Nigerian woman was found murdered in a Burtonsville, Maryland, U.S. home she lived with her husband Chidiebere Omenihu and three children. Police responding to a report of an unconscious woman, found the lifeless body of 36-year-old Chidiebere Omenihu Ochulo around 2:30 a.m at their home. There was no sign of her 41-year-old husband, Kelechi Charles Emeruwa and their three children. Mr. Emeruwa was seen washing a blood stained knife according to unconfirmed reports. He was believed to have fled the city with the children. Police on failing to locate Mr. Emeruwa and the children at their home, commenced a manhunt for the suspect and issued an Amber Alert on the missing children. Amber Alert is a U.S. voluntary partnership program between law-enforcement agencies, broadcasters, and transportation agencies to activate an urgent bulletin in the most serious child-abduction cases. Broadcasters use the Emergency Alert System (EAS) to air a description of the abducted child and suspected abductor. Police arrested the suspect, 41-year-old Kelechi Charles Emeruwa, on a first-degree murder warrant in the death of his wife. The children were unharmed and taken into custody by police. Case 4: Mr. Theophilius Ojukwu who is now serving a life sentence in Texas for killing his wife Melvina , allegedly fled to a hotel in Mesquite, a Texan city, with his four children, and called police informing them of the incident. Mr. Ojukwu was arrested that evening and remanded in custody at Lew Sterrett Justice Center. Sources close to the family said that about two years ago, Melvina Ojukwu’s mother, who was here on a visit, tragically died in her house, at the same 5400 block of Barcelona Drive where she met her untimely and heartbreaking death. THE POINT OF DEPARTURE: It is very sad that Nigerians who are seeking for greener pasture end up in a redder pasture. That you filed papers and brought your wife to the USA is not a license for you to kill your wife. The idea and concept of god-Father-ism as envisioned in Nigerian politics seem to be in most cases genetic with most Nigerian men. It has been seen over and over again that Nigerian men are highly controlling and domineering albeit the alpha males. For instance, Ibrahim Babangida played a god-father to Olusegun Obasanjo and consequently Obasanjo playing a godfather to President Jonathan, late Adedibu to Alao-akala, Jim Nwobodo to Chimaroke Nnamani, Chimaroke Nnamani to Sullivain Chime, Ibori to Uduaghan, Tinubu to Fashola ,Atiku to Boni Haruna , Orji Kalu to Orji, Ojukwu to Obi and the list goes ad infinitum. The immoral Philosopher Niccolo Machiavelli once said , “before all else, be armed” . Machiavelli envisioned a total control of the subjects by the Prince by all means possible and necessary without morality. He warned that it is better to deal decisively with any form of disobedience at it’s earlier stage than to wait up on till when the problem is beyond control. According to this brutal Philosophy, if it means death so be it. You need to understand Machiavelli for you to understand the penchant for god-father-ism inherent in the soul of many Nigerian men ranging from politicians, scammers aka 419-ers to brutal husbands etc. Having said this, it is pertinent to note that Nigerian women in the USA are now more Americanized than the “real Americans” . Immorality and infidelity are the bane of Nigerian women here in the USA. Some of these Nigerian Ladies consider it an honor to get laid by a white man. Not that I have anything about sexual relationship with any race but not when you are in a matrimonial home. Here in New York, I have heard of Nigerian women both married and unmarried who are into unclothed dancing/prostitution, indecency industry and all sorts of aberrations in the name of making quick buck in the USA. Making money is very good but it needs to be done in the right way and in the right conditions. Some of these Nigerian ladies end up having kid(s) with their unknown patronizing men. Some of them hide these kids and put them in shelters just to marry the Nigerian men of their dreams and vice versa with the males. But one thing these folks fail to understand is that , “nothing is hidden under the sun and as man sow so shall s/he reaps”. That Financial instability ruins a family is very understanding but pushing your wife to be a unclothed dancer is certainly not the way to go. Eventually, suspicion will make you to gun for her head. Money is the root of all evil. Nigerians should be careful in the way that they chase money. Nigerians fail to understand that it is not everybody that will be a millionaire. Other Nigerian women believe that Freedom in America comes without responsibility. John Locke- the liberal English thinker and Philosopher once said that ,”Freedom means to be in chain as your freedom ends where another man’s freedom starts” Being free does not mean you disrespect the man that labored to bring you to America. You should respect him. Most Nigerian women watch Winfrey Oprah, Tyra Bank shows etc without proper rationality and putting into context where they came from and the diversity of cultures involved. Listening to Oprah can be so helpful and destructive. Unfortunately, most Nigerian women who revolt against their husbands fail to understand that most of these talk show hosts does not even have husband(s) and yet they give you advice on how to stay with yours. In most cases, Nigerian men tend to show off when they go to their respective villages in Nigeria to marry these young women, some of them in their teenage years. They claim to be Mayors or assistants to Governors in the USA. Unfortunately they may be a mere taxi drivers and restaurant managers etc. It is obvious that such women who follow men for money would leave such a man when they discover that you are not well to do. Most Importantly, Nigerians in their quest to Americanize often times forget prayers and the essence of God in their life. It does not matter in what you believe but what matters is that you believe in something supernatural. Even the Greek philosopher Plato believed that God existed even though he called Him, “ logos”. The emphasis on the Metaphysical can not be over emphasized, the fear of the “unseen one” watching closely is very important in our lives. THE POINT OF ARRIVAL: Most Nigerian men kill their wives because of fear that their wives will inherit all or some of their wealth and properties. Well the obvious reason is that most of them do not have pre-nuptial in the name of love and tradition. Pre-nuptial agreement is very important prior to each marriage. That way there is no fear and mutual suspicion in the household. Also when you bring your wife in the USA, get it into your head that she is not your slave and that as a matter of fact that both of you are equal. Be open to her and tell her what you do before bringing her. Let her know in plain terms that you are not rich. Take her to Mosque, Church or any place of worship and introduce her to the pastor, Priest, Imam etc so that not only a physical community but also a super natural community is formed around your household. Talk to her about financial matters and try to share bills etc. If you pay all the bills and she saves all her money, then, there is a risk of you bringing up arm whenever she leaves you for a younger man. Virtue they say lies in the middle and Roman people said, “Verbum sapientia Satis” meaning that a word is enough for the wise. Exclusive – Life Inside The Mohits Mansion Don’t be fooled – It’s not even a mansion! Deep inside your minds, you picture D’Banj living in a paradise of sorts, with remote-controlled sofas, bikini-clad waitresses, Gordon Ramsay-like chefs, Olympic-sized swimming pool, convertible B&O screens and some decor machinery that gives the entire house the feel of Don Jazzy’s beats and D’Banj’s charm? Nah, the Maryland property D’Banj calls home is not anything close to what you’d expect. Definitely not a mansion; and not the type of celeb crib that make your eyes wanna jump out of their sockets – you know the kind you see on MTV cribs? Nah! The Mohits duplex houses D’Banj, Don Jazzy, D’prince, Kayswitch, Dr SID and Wande Coal; with regular overnight/long time guests including Ikechukwu, Special ED, Sauce Kid and others. Situated in a private estate behind Planet One Entertainment, in Maryland, Lagos, the Mohits property is referred to, by those who’ve been there, as a ‘hostel’ of sorts. As you drive into the street, you already have an idea this is the home for the boys – what with the cars of Ikechukwu, Special ED, Sauce Kid and others parked outside. The uniformed security guard gives you a plain sheet to write your name on, requesting you indicate who you’re seeing and your purpose. He locks you out as he goes in to confirm if you should be allowed in or not. Once in, the first thing you notice is the set of diesel generators and a water tank, all competing for the little space in the compound. Don’t mind the diesel spills on the floor – everyone uses diesel in Lagos! A security door leads you in, and after a set of mini stairs, you see the large living room to the right. This is where most visitors to the Mohits home end up. Here, you’re faced with a large portrait painting of D’Banj, as well as a dozen plaques arranged on a TV stand. There’s sparse furnishing downstairs, plenty of space, and queer painting. But upstairs, the parlour is smaller, and functions more like a waiting room. The guys sleep upstairs, as well as work when necessary. An entire room functions as Don Jazzy’s studio – here is where most of the award-winning hits are baked. And just seconds away is D’Banj’s room. Inside D’Banj’s bedroom, there’s a painting of him on the wall, as well as one where his parents appear to be praying for him. His bed is queerly-shaped – almost circular – and coloured red! We’re unsure how many rooms are in the house, But Don Jazzy, D’Prince and Wande Coal are also believed to have their rooms upstairs. With assistants and guards running around to get stuff done, and guests thronging in by the minute, it’s a busy atmosphere, all day, all week inside the choked apartment. ‘D’Banj spends a lot of time in his room, you don’t even know when he has guests or not. And not everyone is allowed to enter his room. He likes to be very coded’ a Mohits aide told us. ‘Infact you can’t even get upstairs except you’re a very important visitor or you’re close to the house’. A Mohits worker tells us it’s deliberate to have everyone living together. ‘We’ve work together, live together, play together. That’s the idea. If Wande has an idea at 1AM, we can quickly rush to do studio and put it down. We’re a close-knit team and we like it like that. You know very much, that everyone of us can afford our own houses. And we all have different properties in different parts of Lagos. But no matter what, there’ll still be a general place for us to call home’. There are rumours D’Banj has properties in his native Ogun state, and in Lekki, on the outskirts of Lagos. But nothing has been confirmed. And, opinions are divided on why a set of young men who claim to earn dozens of millions per week would continue to live together in a property that can barely contain them and their guests. ‘It’s either they don’t earn as much as they claim, or they just don’t care. But if I were half as big as D’Banj or Wande, I wouldn’t live in a place like that’ an artiste who has spent nights in the house told us. What we think? Aint nothing wrong with a bunch of bachelors cohabiting. It’s worked for them well so far – so why change a winning formular? In a matter of years, the wedding bells will start ringing. When D’Banj or Don Jazzy say ‘I Do’, then we’ll know it’s time for the boys of the Mohits mansion to get moving… http://www.thenetng.com/2010/07/07/exclusive-life-inside-the-mohits-mansion/

Ok let me bring the topic back on course Ken Saro-Wiwa was never a saint Donu Kogbara grew up as a family friend of the Ogoni dissident hanged a year ago by the Nigerians. Here she sympathises with the man and his cause, but also tells of his pursuit of power and wealth, and how his politics led to the death of his moderate allies Whenever anyone dares to hint that Ken Saro-Wiwa was not a saint - as Richard North did in Friday's Independent - there are outraged responses from people who have no significant knowledge of Ogoniland or Saro-Wiwa's complex personality. I totally understand why Ken's son - Ken Wiwa - reacts emotionally to any remarks that tarnish his father's image. But everyone else should be able to stand back and calmly listen to criticisms of the man. . I'm an Ogoni myself. My father is a businessman and politician. He has been a minister for trade/industry. He was also a state chairman of Nigeria's last democratic government, and a rebel Biafran ambassador in London in the 1960s when Saro-Wiwa was one of the minuscule number of Ogonis who were firm friends of the Nigerian federal military government. The Nigerian military won the Biafran civil war. My father was sentenced to death in absentia and forced to live in exile in Britain. Unlike 99 per cent of Ogonis, Saro-Wiwa did well out of that civil war. When everyone else was broke, he was rolling in it. But my father's differences with Saro-Wiwa were eventually forgiven and I grew up in the 1970s knowing and being encouraged to like Saro-Wiwa.It was easy to like him. He even bought me my first typewriter. Saro-Wiwa had never been 100 per cent idealistic about anything. Read some of his earliest writings and you'll discover that he opposed those who supported the Biafran civil war mostly because he thought that sedition was bad for one's career. And if you could have tuned into some of his conversations with me in the late 1980s/early 1990s, you'd have discovered that he later changed his mind about sedition and decided that it was a great vehicle for ambitious African politicians. Saro-Wiwa told me that if I totally committed myself to his campaign, I would become dazzlingly famous and rich beyond my wildest dreams. He enjoyed listing all the "silly" white liberals who might bankroll the Ogoni cause (which he had conveniently ignored in the 1960s). He used to tell me, in fairly bitter tones, that whale-saving white liberals didn't care about the Third World's "real" problems. "But environmental complaints will get to them," he would add. And while politely exempting myself from Saro-Wiwa's self-aggrandising plans, I half-heartedly wished him well, knowing that he wasn't totally cynical and sure that Ogonis would benefit indirectly if he got famous and even richer . I did not approve of the kangaroo court that sentenced Ken Saro-Wiwa; and I was horrified when he was judicially murdered by Nigeria's brutal military dictators. But whenever I'm asked to comment on Saro-Wiwa's erudite, swashbuckling life and truly tragic death, I feel obliged to say that, despite his good qualities and the fact that his aims were partly laudable, he was an awesomely efficient publicity-manipulator who had a dark, power- hungry, rabble-rousing side that led to the deaths of four Ogoni moderates. He was a risk-taker. And he lost the gamble. When Saro-Wiwa started his environmental campaign, the Ogoni elite were divided between radicals like Saro-Wiwa who favoured the sabotaging of oil pipelines, and moderates like his brother-in-law, Chief Orage, and my father who shared his basic aims but felt that guerrilla action would encourage the military to lash out. Saro-Wiwa took exception to those who urged caution and, according to witnesses whom I've met, ordered the hotheads who surrounded him to take harsh action against them. My father narrowly escaped death at a public rally. Saro-Wiwa's brother-in- law and three other men were not so lucky. They were butchered in broad daylight. Local villagers say they were killed by known members of Saro-Wiwa's private army. One chap who openly threatened to testify against Saro-Wiwa's thugs had a nail driven into his skull before Saro-Wiwa's trial. Amnesty International, Greenpeace and other observers and commentators (including Wole Soyinka, the Nigerian Nobel Prize-winner - a privileged Yoruba tribesman who knows nothing about Ogoniland) never properly investigated the claims against Saro-Wiwa. My view is that they found it hard to believe that a pipe-smoking intellectual with a brave and benevolent image could be indirectly responsible for such savagery. Furthermore, the Nigerian regime is so dreadful that any action it takes is quite rightly regarded with suspicion. The fact remains that Saro-Wiwa was not the totally blameless gentleman he is widely believed to be. Since I first spoke out against Saro-Wiwa in l995, my media career has suffered. Even when people think that I might be telling the truth, some are afraid of being seen to be hiring or befriending me. The past few months have been frightening and disillusioning for those of us who once fondly believed a) that free speech prevails in the United Kingdom, and b) that British journalists do not draw conclusions about important matters without first doing in-depth research. I'm amazed by the number of hacks who have made their minds up without visiting Ogoniland. Saro-Wiwa's acolytes have been allowed to speak - unopposed and at great length - on a thousand platforms. Meanwhile, representatives of Saro-Wiwa's victims have, in effect, been gagged. Many are profoundly traumatised by the obsequious fanfare surrounding this first anniversary of his hanging. Meanwhile, I've been told that I should not show my face at writers' events, that I'll never work again for anyone half-way respectable, and that my parents and I will be killed in our beds when our "protectors" (the Nigerian government) are driven out of office. The head of a writers' group has refused to meet me to discuss my concerns. MPs have vilified me. I have lost friends who belong to the Anglo- African liberal literary establishment. I'd have gained much more if I'd jumped on the pro-Saro-Wiwa bandwagon or if I'd kept my mouth tightly shut. As for young Ken Wiwa's claim that I'm simply slavishly echoing my father's hatred of his father: my father did not hate Saro-Wiwa until 1993, when Saro-Wiwa publicly deposited my father's name on his "traitors" hit-list. I frequently disagree with my father. I did not vote for my father's political party in the 1983 elections in Nigeria. I have written and broadcast criticisms of some of my father's cronies. And I was actually closer, in some ways, to Saro-Wiwa than I was to my own father. Saro-Wiwa got me my first columnist job on a Nigerian newspaper. I miss Saro-Wiwa's cleverness, charismatic wit and moments of total sweetness and warmth. I'd give anything to believe that he was not capable of incitement to murder. And I concede that he was capable of incitement very grudgingly indeed. I still make excuses for him. I babble desperately about his brief moments of madness. I say that Saro- Wiwa was not intrinsically wicked. By insisting that he had many redeeming features, that I'm sure he didn't really want those four men dead, and that capital punishment is judicial murder under every single circumstance. I have upset a lot of people in the anti-Saro-Wiwa camp back home (including my parents). So here I am, stuck in the middle and isolated. All I ask is that those who despise me should seriously consider my assertion that I've taken the suicidal and reluctant decision to criticise a global icon, former intimate and dearly-loved mentor only because I sincerely believe that he is an unsuitable candidate for canonisation, due to the fact that he was indirectly responsible for at least four deaths. I sometimes think that people are not so much genuinely contemptuous of Saro-Wiva's critics as cowardly and terrified that their grandstanding on his behalf will be proved to be fraudulent or misguided. It is hard for them to admit that they have been wrong about something so serious. The writer is a broadcaster and journalist living in London. http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/ken-sarowiwa-was-never-a-saint-1351981.html |

bk/babe90:While you're fixated on the Igbos this is what your friends think of you: Why do Black Men Rape White women So let's see, if, according to the US Justice Department, 37,000 White women are reported raped every year by Black men, and yet only less than 10 Black women are reported raped by White men, can we ascribe some racial element to these attacks? Can we suggest that in some measure, these attacks can be hate crimes? If Black men deliberately seek out White women to rape because they want to rape a White woman, should that not be considered as much of a hate crime as three white men beating on a black guy in BC? And these are comments on the same thread. Youki Guest Posts: n/a Default Re: Why do black men rape white women? White women are usually delicate and feminine, unlike the brutish typical black female. So are easier to over-power. 4. Black women are hideous, who would want to have sex with that out of choice? 5. This move is as good as bulldozing prayer houses/mosques that go against the masterplan.Something should also be done about all those praying grounds along the Lagos/Ibadan expressway, they make lives exasperating for motorists. I still can't fathom why some pple are kicking against this ban,are they telling us these prayer houses are in the right? Being a christian or a muslim is not a license to run foul of the law,in fact we should be custodians of the law and not breakers.Back in naija churches around my house (at least 8 of them not to mention the mosques) gave me and other members of the community continuous sleepless nights for many years making life unbearable for the rest of us. The irony of the situation is these folks give us sleepless nights and then they go to sleep afterwards while we have to struggle to stay awake at work.In other climes i have been to,you don't hear a noise, yet people still go to church, muslims still wake early for their prayers without the noisy reminders. So why must naija be different? |
