What I mean is that the whole body already is rotten not only the head. We need to heal 100% of the body and the head. We need to breed doctors, lawyers, businessman, scientists, teachers, public speakers, congressmen. And, we must find a way to instill these alternatives into the minds of our youth. Even though it may take a little longer and they may have to study a little bit harder, the results will be long term success.
It's already too late for that sermon. When we see our politicians always coming out of power richer than when they went in.What moral justification wld such a person hav to teach me that "honesty is still the best policy".I still maintain that one of the many tragedies of our homeland is leadership,u may not want to admit it but it's the truth.

Please; Let us analyse this situation!!!.We cannot blame only the leaders for corruption and 419. The leaders are Mirrors. The head of state and his goverment reflect the collective consciousness, be it military regime, democracies, or anarchies. If a government is unstable or corrupt, or if a tyrann comes to power, it is because the collective consciousness is at that level. If the results of a government are limited, its is because the consciousness of the nation is limited. A government can never be better than its people. Nowadays, the focus is on the fruits, while it should be on the root.
Yeah u can toe that line of argument, but i beg to differ. you know what happens to the rest of the body wen the head is rotten or hav u 4gotten.Besides wat is a body without a head.

I don't seem to understand the line of argument here. How is the sentence heavy?Somebody is involved in a hit and run, shows no remorse, lies to the court abt her whereabouts & som peeps are on here supporting evil.Do we now hav 2 set of rules for the havs & the hav nots?Even if she fled the scene for fear of being lynched she should hav turned herself in at the nearest police station. This line of reasoning is not tenable & unacceptable,if u do the crime be prepared to do the tym

When i used the phrase "holier than thou" it has nothin to do xtianity or goin to church, neither does the phrase "young man necessarily mean youth. You should know better.Bak to the subject,i did not say givin loans does not change lives, pls don't misconstrue me because i'm also in the philantrophy business but i'm not maqin plenty of noise abt it.We're talkin abt movin ahead as a nation. It is mind boggling how an individual wld corner everything meant for the citizenry,we're talkin abt primitive accumulation of wealth,we're talkin abt greed, avarice, land grab etc.GET IT?

RevMallam:
Strange that you elaborate on financial crimes but then you encourage lawlessness. I also visit Nigeria, but I have never contributed to the scheme you mentioned although I have been asked several times. The worst that has happened to me was being detained between Owerri and Aba road for a total of 3 hours for refusing to comply. When I was released, I promptly filed a complaint against the officers at Owerri and in the end, they were transfered out. Currently, my lawyers are working on a case against another police division, but I will not go into details. You see, you can stand your ground if you do it the right way.
On the second point, I do object to the branding of Nigeria as the only country with financial crimes problems by various postings. The truth is that, it is a global problem and what is happening in the western world now proves me right.
But,I was looking for Financial or some other Tangible contributions. All the same,  have you considered investing or contributed to your community by making a small loan to one poor woman or man? Be sure they present you with what they intend to do with the money THAT WILL YIELD MORE money. Never give money to consumers. You will be amazed how far 50 thousand invested in selling Garri will change the life of a poor woman or man and how happier you will be seeing your contributions change a life. Give it a try.
revmallam
Young man,pls stop givin us all these holier than thou sermons.I travel home too and do my bit.I have received an award from an orphanage home whilst in Nigeria for volunteering my tym and resources to teach in the home. But that is bsides the point-the point is the system does not permit "good samaritanism",there's no level playing ground and You run the risk of been annihilated if u try to change the system. So givin loans and volunteering will not get us into top 20 countries. The Nigerian problem is leadership;period.
PoliticsRe: What Have You Done For Nigeria Or Your Country In Your Entire Life? by cold(m): 6:15pm On Mar 28, 2009
Revmallam, don't get it twisted. Things are a lot different between the developed countries and the developing ones-Nigeria to be precise. At least for one-in developed countries capital run after ideas, in nigeria ideas run after capital. If that is not a major difference tell me & i'l giv u more.

Becomrrich:
The question should be what have your country done for you. Has nigeria done anything for its citizen. come abroad and see what their countries do for them.

Nobody would want to love a country that treat them bad.  look . there is noway in the west, were their president would be sick as Umaru yar adua and that president would not resign. They would resign because they place thier country above themself.

Now if you have your president show a bad example to citizen , do you expect citizen to do anything for the country.

Relationship is a give and take thing. It does not start from the bottom it start from the top.

Now what have yar adua done for the citizenhuh?

It as been 2 years of more suffering for nigeria. It is like if nigeria have no govt. This govt lack idea to move nigeria forward.

Now as a Yorubaman who see that apatheid against the Yorubas in nigeria. Tell me, why on hell would I want to do anything for nigeria.  Or why would the man from the south south who face the risk of dead from cancer, due to exposure from toxic gas. Why on hell would he want to do anything for nigeria.

If the USA treat thier citizen the way nigeria treat it citzen do you think countless young men would be in iraq. It is what a nation do to a citizen first that made the citizen like thier nation. it is not the other way. If Yar adua relocate the yorubas and bendle , bayelsa into Benin republic. My brother we all go continue to love nigeria from inside benin republic.
Why do u always hav to introduce the Yoruba anarchistic tendencies into every discussion. Can't u be constructive in your reasoning?

Lagosboy:
A society without laws is a lawless society. Islam Islam teaches man to be holy , righteous and encourages piety. Islam calls man to submission to his Lord and be at peace with his lord so when he departs whis world to meet his lord, his lord would also be happy to meet him. Unfortunately muslims are not perfect as we are human beings; laws are neccessary to have a practical society. To preserve a can milk you put a can milk in a refridgerator , to preserve the islam of a muslim u need a lawful society.

The actions of some traditionalist who mix their culture with islam should not serve as the only basis for our conclusions in this. I repeat the segregation laws of saudi is extreme to islamic teachings.

There is no basis for women not to be able to drive in islam as even Aisha (RA) used to ride a horse and camel which was the means of transportation in those days. There is no basis for a woman not to be able to work in islam as there were women who held important positions in the time of the prophet (PBUH). We are both equal before God and what differentiates us is our piety and not sex or race.
Just a simple question for u; do u support amputation and decapitation as enshrined in the qu'ran? If ur answer is no-what do u recommed as a pius muslim.

What i can't fathom is-if islam is so virtous, pious & holy as muslims would have us blv,why do these societies require special enforcement units to enforce the so-called holy laws.It beats me hollow.
