sarrki: Some residents of Anambra State have commended President Muhammadu Buhari for ensuring the commencement of work at the Second Niger Bridge. Some of the residents told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in separate interviews yesterday, that the president’s fulfillment of his promise indicated that it was dear to his heart. NAN reports that the idea of the Second Niger Bridge, awarded to Julius Berger Nig. Ltd, was envisaged to reduce the load and pressure on the existing Niger Bridge.
A correspondent of NAN, who visited the project site to ascertain the level of work done, reports that some workers were seen operating a gigantic equipment used for piling. In his reaction, Prof. Dennis Aribodo of the Department of Public Health Parasitology, NnamdiAzikiwe University, Awka, described the bridge as a “necessary link to promote the economy of the country.” “The bridge invariably serves as an alternative if anything happens to old Niger Bridge.
It is an important economic project of huge benefit to the country,” he said. Aribodo stressed the need for proper supervision of the project to ensure that work was carried out to specification. Also, MrsAnthoniaUdem, a food vendor close to the project site, who expressed happiness over the project; however, decried the slow pace of work by the construction company.
Udem described the attitude of the construction firm as “419” (fraud). “I am happy about the work, just that these people want to play us 419 again. I say so because this work is supposed to be ready by now but they will work today and tomorrow they won’t work. “I want government to execute the project fast so that the bridge will be useful to us and everybody will be happy,” Udem said. On his part, MrChukwuemekaOkonkwo, a sand excavator near the project site, also decried the slow pace of work at the Bridge.
Okonkwo said based on the importance of this project, the work should be carried out both day and night to ensure early completion. “The federal government should provide the necessary logistics like money because when you mobilize and give them enough money, they will get more equipment and labour,” Okonkwo said. However, a top official of Julius Berger Nig. Plc, who pleaded anonymity, said work resumed fully at the site in November 2017.
According to the source, the community cannot dictate the pace of work. “Julius Berger has a peculiar way of working on site. Currently, we are doing mostly piling now on ground after the one done in the water. We have equally finished the piling on the Asaba side. “What we are doing now is what we call early works four, which means we have done that of one to three and these are preparation for the major work to begin. “Early works four will be completed by June or July for the major work to commence. “From what the Federal Ministry of Works has told us, there will be no stoppage until work is completed; meaning, funding will not interrupt the project or slow it down,” the source said. However, the source said the issue of compensation on affected communities cropped up occasionally, noting however, that the Federal Ministry of Works had equally promised to resolve the issue

CastedDude: Following the trending Fulani herdsmen issue which has been rocking the country for some time now, sixteen Nigerian states have agreed to establish cattle colonies proposed by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh as a solution to the incessant herdsmen crisis.
It was gathered that some 16 states, all in the North, have volunteered land for the establishment of cattle colonies in their domain.
Now a Facebook user, Uche Ezeigbo, has introduced an Igbo cattle rearer identified as Mr Tony Alika-Igwebuike, who breeds his cattle in a ranch he built by himself after much investment.

Mr Tony Alika-Igwebuike is a cattle rearer/breeder, he isn't Fulani, he's Igbo from SE Nigeria. His cattle do not destroy crops and other economic trees because he has a ranch.
He didn't wait for government to create cattle colonies for him, he invested millions of naira to build a ranch for his cattle, he even imports fodder grasses without any kind of help from the government.
Cattle rearing is a huge business with immense opportunities, we can't keep tolerating the excesses of primitive herdsmen because we do not want beef to go missing in our diet.

dainformant: A man identified as Engineer Simput Eagles Dafup has been arrested for allegedly converting one Miss Nabila Umar Sanda Galadima from Islam to Christianity on a flight from United Kingdom. The man was arrested by the Department of State Services, DSS after a raid on his home in Jos, Plateau state.
18-year-old Nabila, a daughter of a traditional title holder in Biu, Borno State had converted to Christianity while at Birmingham University and had met Dafup, a lecturer, in Ghana four years ago on a flight.
It was said Nabila had recently reconnected with Dafup who was visiting Jos for the Christmas break and expressed her intentions to fully convert to Christianity.
His mother, Mrs. Dafup, said the men who stormed her son premises heavily armed in 5 Hilux van brutalized and torture her son before they whisk him away adding that even passersby were assaulted in the process.
According to her, ” nobody has contacted me or any member of my family as to the where about of my son. I, however, know as a fact that some of the people that were found in the premises with my son and who were also assaulted and brutalized with my son were taken to the Plateau state command of DSS.”
She further stressed “While at the DSS office in Jos, they never met or saw my son there. The men suspected to have whisked my son put a mask on him and the others. The other people who were taken to DSS office in a mask are here with me to confirmed my narration.

The Benue State chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, Comrade Abba Yaro has described the massive killing of over 50 Benue people by the Fulani herdsmen as an invitation for Civil War.
In a Statement issued in Abuja, Yaro decried the recent killings as an attempt to spark second civil war in Nigeria, insisting that, it is clear case of ethnic cleansing around the Benue Valley which must be stopped immediately.
While calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately call the Fulani to order and as well direct security agents to fetch out the killers, he also called on all Benue Sons and daughters, irrespective of Party affiliation to rise in defence of Benue Community.
"This is above Party politics, it is human lives, how can you kill a pregnant woman and removed the unborn child yet slaughtered it? It is barbaric, unspeakable and generally unpalatable".
Yaro says the Anti Open Grazing Law in Benue is not targeted at any section of the people but for the general security of Benue State, a measure against cattle rustling and a solution to herders/farmers clash.
"The implementation is ongoing and we are in support of our governor, we are not deterred, the Anti Open Grazing Law has come to stay.
"Nigerians should not see the killings as a Benue problem but National crisis, the absence of peace in Benue is an absence of peace in Nigeria.
"We must treat it as a national ethnic cleansing by the Fulanis and collectively pressurize Mr President to put an end to it. If Boko Haram can be defeated, IPOB stopped, Fulani killings can be stopped", he observed.

Yaro emphasized that "if the Fulanis are not called to order by the relevant authorities to stop the ethnic cleansing like the lawless Fulanis are doing, Benue people shall take laws into their hands in self-defense".

Istanbul police arrested a Nigerian national who was carrying over 5 kilograms of cocaine at the city’s busiest airport, according to a police statement Friday.
The statement by the Provincial Security Directorate said the suspect, identified by the initials F.O.A., was stopped by anti-narcotics officers at a terminal of Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport on Dec. 2.
The cocaine was hidden in 24 metal cylinders found in two suitcases belonging to the suspect, who arrived in the city from Sao Paulo, Brazil. The suspect was remanded into custody.
Irukkanews: Ahead of the 2019 presidential election ,a political organization under the aegis of Non –Yoruba Indigenes APC Forum in Southwest geo-political zone has warned against imposition of Muslim -Muslim presidential and vice presidential ticket by the ruling party. Speaking at the end of their well attended meeting in Ota,Ogun state, the founder of the organization, which constitute over 60 per cent of the electorates in the Geo-political zone, Chief Dr Chris Orie said that a Muslim-Muslim ticket would be a hard sale for the party.
According to him, the leadership of the APC should take into cognisance the secularity of the country before choosing its presidential and vice presidential candidates. He said that religion is a very sensitive issue in the country, adding that for APC to win the 2019 presidential election, it must carry the two dominant religions in the country along. According to him, there has been rumors in the past that APC is a Muslim party.
Chief Orie said if the party goes ahead to field only Muslims in the presidential election, it would lend credence to the rumor and the result would not be palatable. According to him, APC must not use 1993 presidential election when Chief M.K.O Abiola and Alhaji Babagana Kingibe ran a Muslim-Muslim ticket and won as a credible reference point. He said Nigeria of today and then is not the same. His words,
"We the members of Non-Yoruba Indigenes APC Forum in southwest want to appeal to the leadership of our great party that there must not be a Muslim-Muslim presidential and vice presidential ticket for 2019 election. The reason for this is because it would be a hard sale. Religion is a very sensitive issue in Nigeria. If we go into statistics, the population of Christians and Muslims in Nigeria is almost 50-50. Therefore, it may be a disaster if a whooping 50 per cent of the population is left out in an election that from all indication may be very tight".
So, as lovers of our great party, the All Progressives Congress, we want the leadership of our party to get it right from the beginning”.
He also said that the organization has drawn up it agenda for the 2018 calendar year. According to him, the organization would soon begin membership drive in all the nooks and crannies of the southwest to ensure that APC would be solid for the 2019 election. He said, beginning from Ogun State, they would have their mobilizers in all the wards and councils in the southwest.
