One woman's rose gold iPhone saved her life during the horrific Las Vegas shooting Sunday night. The woman, who has not been publicly identified, showed her cab driver her damaged phone after the horrific attack that left 59 people dead and 527 injured during country music star Jason Aldean's concert Sunday night.
A photo of the pricey and popular device shows the back of the iPhone completely shattered after being hit by a single bullet. It's unclear how or where the woman was holding the phone while fleeing the scene of the worst mass shooting in U.S. history.
Gunman Stephen Paddock, 64, died from what's believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police say Paddock started firing down on the crowd of 22,000 people at the concert from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino. His motive for the horrendous attack is being investigated by police and federal authorities.
It took police 72 minutes to zero in on Paddock's hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino across the street from the festival. They say he had cameras set up in the hallway so he would know when authorities arrived.
Paddock continued to fight even as police breached his room - firing through the front door at officers. But by the time the SWAT team finally made it into the room, Paddock had killed himself.
He lived in 27 residences in Nevada, Florida and Texas as an adult, but other than that he had apparently lived a quiet and unremarkable life. The retired accountant had worked as an internal auditor at Lockheed Martin for three years in the late 1980s, and was a manager and investor in apartment complexes located in Mesquite, Texas and California, which made him millions, his brother said, according to the Las Vegas Sun.
Local police said they had no run-ins with the man, not even traffic violations, and his brother described him as 'just a guy who lived in Mesquite who drove down and gambled in Las Vegas and... liked burritos'.

froz: With the launch of latest Pay TV operator in Nigeria, TStv Africa, DStv, StarTimes and other existing service providers are unsettled by the immediate response of the Federal Government in granting a three-year tax relief to the newly inaugurated Pay TV operator in the country as well as tax-free dividends to all investors in the company.
The development has already triggered panic among old operators who have been competing for market shares in the face of harsh economic environment in the country.
Their fear is not unconnected to the belief that the new operator would before long break the strength of monopoly they have been riding on over the years.
A reliable source from one of the Pay TV service providers, who preferred anonymity, told INDEPENDENT that steps are being taken by the existing operators to request for a better deal from the Federal Government.
According to him, “You don’t expect those who have laboured hard in the country for people to enjoy this unique service to just be ignored like that. It will not be a fair deal if significant relief is given to a new entrant into the market without the same or better consideration extended to us who have the taken the industry’s heat over the years.”
On Sunday night, at a dinner to mark the official unveiling of TStv Africa in Abuja, Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, announced the three-year tax relief for the new company.
During the official unveiling of the new company and its products which promises to operate on Pay-As-You-Consume model, the minister said the tax reliefs were in line with the pioneer status recently granted to the creative industry by the government.
He congratulated the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company, Bright Echefu, and his team for liberalising and breaking the monopoly of Pay TV in the country.
The minister said: “The important thing about what Echefu has done today is that he has redefined the pay per view television industry; and from today, that industry will never remain the same again. What he has done is to democratise the media and entertainment industry and make it possible for even a peasant farmer to have access to the best entertainment and news in the world.
“It is a great opportunity for me to be the one to unveil TStv, because, just like a Nigerian made history by crashing the cost of telephony in Nigeria, I am glad that another Nigerian is now coming forward to crash the cost of Pay TV,” he said.
Wholly Nigerian-owned, the frenzy about the Pay TV has been spreading in the last few days before the official launch because of the anticipated refined offerings of novel unclassified Pay Per View subscription and complimentary internet services the operator is promising potential customers across the country.
With the commercial launch, industry watchers have posited that it would win over a lot of customers who have been itching for a pay-as-you-watch subscription plan from the likes of DStv, StarTimes, Consat and others in the past years without a positive response.
When INDEPENDENT contacted the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) spokesperson, Maimuna Jimada, if other Pay TV operators would be considered for the relief measure, she said the commission cannot comment on the development.
“It is the minister of information and culture that made the announcement. He is the one that can explain better,” she quipped.
Mohammed commended the courage of the investor for coming from the Diaspora to invest in his country and for believing in the government’s seriousness about diversifying the economy.
He said the company had also demonstrated that government alone could not do all things but needed the participation and synergy of the private sector.
The minister also stated that the government was aware of the huge contributions of the creative industry to the nation’s economy and would continue to support the sector.
“I want to assure that this administration will continue to assist you and other investors in creating the enabling environment for businesses to grow,” he added.
In his remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Bright Echefu, disclosed that TStv Africa, which had gone through a lot of challenges, was birth to liberalise Pay TV in the country, make it affordable to every Nigerian with added values.
Echefu said for the first time, Nigerians could now enjoy Pay Per View because with TStv, “subscription runs as you watch and it has the facility to pause your subscription when you travel”.
He said that TStv for a start has 70 premium channels model with the cheapest pay TV in Africa with maximum subscription fee of N3,000 only. The Pay TV has a model that accommodate subscription as low as N200 and N500 for a period of time.
Echefu said that once a customer subscribes to TStv, he or she will also get complimentary internet service, enabled Wi-Fi, as well as video calls and video conferencing services.
TStv has an array of amazing TV channels with premium entertainment, educative programmes that cut across all genres which include news, music, general entertainment, documentary, movies, religious, sports, health, kids, fashion and lifestyle that better define the uniqueness of Nigeria’s diverse culture and traditional values.
The minister has, however, identified contents and the lack of objective audience measurement as major challenges that had retarded the growth of TV and advertising industries in the country.

Just to tip you guys off, total earnings for the first half of this year is less than what was used to service debt ie Nigeria borrowed to service debt.
paulstrings: GoMyWay is a ride-sharing marketplace connecting passengers with ride owners going along the same route and have empty seats to spare.
Go My Way was founded by Damilola Teidi and Sim Shagaya Konga CEO on the board.
I registered on the platform in 2015 during my NYSC and I saw huge potential in the online ridesharing platform. It was one of the earliest ridesharing platforms in the country.
Jekalo {A CcHub ridesharing app} and GoMyWay launched around the same period, but I think GoMy way was more consistent and popular.
They might not have the resources like UBER and Taxify, but they have lots of dedicated subscribers and an excellent service.
Here is the mail I got from the CEO NICE ONE FROM APC LEAD GOVERNMENT
I hope you are doing well. It is with deep regret that I write this email to let you know that GoMyWay will be closing down. In this email, I'll let you know why we are closing as well as offer an alternative service. I hope you take a few minutes to read.
In 2015, I was hired as the CEO, via recommendation by my previous employers, to run GoMyWay. The plan by its Shareholders/Investors was to run a free service for a year or two, and focus on growing the user-base.
Over the last 2 years, the team put in time and effort to growing the business and building a trusted ridesharing community. We went from less than 1000 members in the first few months to 12,000+ members; 106,630 rides offered and rides shared across 16 states. However, it does take a lot of resources to run this business and the initial plan was no longer sustainable. The Shareholders/Investors came to a conclusion to shut down operations and close the business as there were no funds to invest further.
I want to specially thank you for your support. I believe GoMyWay had the best community and I can write a few pages about it. We had users who spread the word about us even when we had no referral codes to give in return. I remember when Yinka visited a member and he had mentioned how everyone in his office now uses GoMyWay through him. We had users who were always available to share amazing ideas with us. It's no surprise that the second highest acquisition channel was referrals/word of mouth.
It does break our hearts to end this wonderful community and we did try to keep it going, but the team has decided to keep the platform running till the end of October. From today, the signup page will no longer be accessible and customer support would also be winding down.
I'm so proud of everyone that worked on GoMyWay. The business was blessed to have the most dedicated and hardworking staff who put in more than their time into this. Some of our users have come in contact with our staff, so they know I am not exaggerating. Thank you Yinka, Favour, Segun, Ope, Ayo, Busayo, Doyin and all the contract staff and interns that worked with us. God bless you immensely.
Lastly, I felt it would be unfair to leave you and other users hanging with no alternative; so, if you are resident in Lagos and in need of an affordable ride to/from work, please check out the guys at Shuttlers who run an affordable shuttle service for professionals. If interested, fill out their form HERE
Thank you very much, Paul; and please feel free to reply this email if you would like to reach me. I will try to reply to as many as possible.
If the Investors were actually pulling out, it could have been sourced to New investors instead of collapsing the entire platform.
Look at the statistics 12,000+ members. 106,630 rides. Plenty great reviews across the internet.
With the above statistics, They pull in a new set of investors or go into partnership with another company. I see that they are presently referring their customers to another platform{Shuttle.ng} which might suggest a partnership deal or something similar though they promised to keep the platform running till October 2017.
Whatever the reasons are, I feel GoMyWay could still be saved.
9inches: Chinese police order Muslims to hand in all copies of the Koran and prayer mats or face 'harsh punishment'
According to sources in the region, officials have been warning neighbourhoods and mosques that ethnic minority Muslim families are being forced to hand in religious items including the Koran and prayer mats. They face severe punishment if they are discovered.
The spokesman for the exile World Uyghur Congress group, Dilxat Raxit said they received a notification saying that every single ethnic Uyghur must hand in any Islam-related items from their own home.
Copies of the Koran and related items must be handed into the government authorities, and there are will be notices being broadcast via WeChat, China's most popular social media app.
According to local officials, Xinjiang authorities earlier this year, began removing all Korans published more than five years ago due to extremist content.
The Korans were taken as part of the 'Three Illegals and One Item' campaign that was underway in Xinjiang, which is against 'illegal' religious items owned by mostly Muslim Uyghurs.
This operation bans 'illegal' publicity, religious activities, religious teaching, and items believed to be tools of terrorism including flammable objects, and knives.
The Uyghur American Association said in a recent press release that China has introduced new regulations that further criminalise religious practice and belief.
China says it is facing threats from domestic cults and radical Islam, however, critics have accused Beijing of a broader pattern of harassment, detention and abuse.

Personally" after listening to the "Story" of Paul &Peter of Psquare on how they want to do "Enemy Solo", i came to the conclusion that it's just a "Temptation". It's a pity they've allowed "Busy Body" women to bring "Danger" to the "Ifunanya" they both shared. They overlooked "Beautiful Onyinye" and opted for "Senorita" that has now brought their "Game Over". They were "More than a friends" telling each other "I love you" and always saying "Me and My Brother" instead of me and my wife they now say. They have now resorted to "Do me, i do you" instead of dancing "Alingo" together like they've always done in the past and which has brought them lots of "Testimonies". I wish they will not "Break It" but continue to "Roll It" so that when they ask their fans "Am I Still That Special Man", they would get such answer as "No One Be Like You". They should open their "Eyes" and stop telling women "Chop My Money" cos it will always attract "Financial Women" that will come to "Kiss Kiss" them to bring about the "Possibility" of them asking each other where were you "Last Night"?. Let them continue their "Collabo" that has always made their hearts "Sari Sari". Anything that will keep them together rather than tear them apart, they should "Bring It On" to attract more "Ifeoma". You guys said "Nobody Ugly" but i wonder why you allowed women with ugly hrts to limit you that were once "Unlimited". You guys should not allow Wahala that will bring "Oga Police" to any issue you may have cos "E no Good".

expialidocious: Struck down but not destroyed. Show me a Nation which recovered as quickly as the Igbos after 3 years of attempted genocide... Igbos had to start afresh, forfeiting properties acquired all over the country while the ones back at home were destroyed... But today, it has been restored in thousand folds. So tell me, why wouldn't they be jealous??
.......... Those comparing Igbos and Rwanda, This is my answer: The war was fought on SE/SS soil, Your region was virtually unaffected. You should be miles ahead of us in terms of economic growth, yi should be like China.... Mtcheew
All I see is hatred, hatred, hatred, bigger hatred, bigger hatred, more hatred and more hatred. God's wrath is real, don't invite one for your self and family because of Nigerian politics.
The army are killing innocent people just because they said they are tired being called Nigerians. But those who go about with AK 47 are invited for Dialogue and even paid by the a State government. Tell your self the truth if you still have conscience, between Fulani herdsmen and IPOB which group is more life threatening?
What else will explain the reason why the Nigerian army will match to the East to raise dust leaving Bornu where Boko haram is having a field day ending their coward low lives?
What else will explain the reason the army will ignore Adamawa, kogi and Benue whose residents' lives are haunted down like Deers and Antelopes by the Fulanis.
Tomorrow they will be shouting one Nijiriya upandan like we all enjoy equal rights.
OEPHIUS: Amidst the lies, denials, counter denials, the violence, riots, arson, deaths and alleged death, fights, online progaganda, dancing snakes etc just one question rests in the mind of a lot of people.
Where is the Supreme leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu?
Has he given a statement in the past 2,3 days? And I don't mean some written/typed document, I mean video, or on the street. Has he joined any protest/resistance on the street of anywhere? Is he putting himself in harms way like the young men are doing?
Is he getting his hands dirty by looking for innocent Hausa folks inside buses?
Is he joining to stop military trucks?
Please where is Nnamdi Kanu? This might be the time for him to walk the talk
CastedDude: A farmer and father of two children is lucky to be alive after being hit by a gas canister fired by security operatives following the chaos in Aba, Abia state. The man who was hit by the canister near his chest region - was left seriously injured. The victim has been taken to a hospital by residents for him to be treated.
Naijaalive: No fewer that eight persons, including one Major General Lawrence Ugbo have been killed and several others injured in Ugboju district, Otukpo LGA of Benue State.
DAILY POST gathered that the incident, which broke out Wednesday morning has rendered many persons homeless.
A resident told this reporter that war broke out in the community after some boys from Ugboju allegedly attacked a group of persons loyal to a former chairman of Otukpo.
It was gathered that the ex-LG boss was in the village with his loyalists when another group believed to be his rival launched an attack on them, injuring many persons.
In reprisal, the politician went back and teamed up with his boys who stormed the community, killing anybody on sight.
They reportedly killed a retired Major General Lawrence Ugbo and cremated his corpse.
When DAILY POST reached out to the Benue State Police PRO, he said he was in a meeting and promised to get back shortly.
When contacted, however, the chairman of Otukpo LG, Hon. George Alli confirmed that several persons lost thier lives.
He, however, faulted the claims in some quaters that the clash was political.
“Yes, I am there as we speak to take victims to the hospital. Several persons, including Maj Gen Lawrence Ugbo were killed and his body burnt to ashes. The clash has nothing to do with politics, it was a land tussle that cause the incident. I will get the whole and pass it across to you shortly,” he told DAILY POST.
