Probes NPA over alleged $3b fraud The Senate Committee on Appropriation yesterday asked the Works, Power and Housing Minister, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, to resign if he could not cope with the responsibilities of his ministry. After being briefed at a plenary session by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation, Danjuma Goje, on the utterances of Fashola, the Senate resolved to await the outcome of the meeting of the minister with the House of Representatives before taking a final decision on him. The development is an indication of the worsening rift between the National Assembly and the Executive. Source: The Guardian |

ABRAKA—THE lawmaker representing Ethiope East in Delta State House of Assembly, Chief Evance Ivwurie, has raised alarm that his life was under threat owing to his campaign against armed Fulani herdsmen in his constituency. Chief Ivwurie, in a statement yesterday, explained that some individuals from the northern part of the country were using the security agencies to muzzle him in an attempt to silence him. He said: “A Kaduna State-based group petitioned the Minister of Interior and National Security Adviser accusing me and the Deputy Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Mr Friday Osanebi, of alleged proclamation of genocide against the Fulani and Hausa in our constituencies. “The threat I am currently facing is as a result of my decision to champion and stand in the gap for the people of my constituency who are killed and maimed daily by suspected armed Fulani herdsmen. “I have been invited by the Delta State Police Command on several occasions Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/06/herdsmen-attacks-delta-lawmaker-alleges-threat-life/ |

Igbo, first settlers in Ile-Ife—Igwe Achebe Achebe said the Igbo society existed beyond what Achebe recorded in his books, disclosing that a recent history book has ascribed to the Igbo as the original settlers in Ile-Ife and whom Oduduwa met, other than the present contest between the Ife and the Ugbo sections in Yoruba land. Igwe Achebe, therefore, tasked the academia in the University of Nigeria to conduct further research that would either authenticate the new study on Igbo settlement. shocked fans of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) were still rooted to their seats 30 minutes after referee Umar Mohammed’s final whistle, as 10–man FC IfeanyiUbah achieved the unimaginable of a 3-0 whiplash of the Oluyole Warriors right at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan. From the first incident of the match, Tamen Medrano sent Bright Onyedikachi down the right wing from a free kick, and the former Super Eagles B player found Godwin Obaje, who poked in with his left foot after only two minutes. The bigger and taller visitors dominated the aerial play with ease, and entertained the crowd with their easy and meaningful touches. Only 13 minutes later, off colour Adigun Adewale lost the ball carelessly from a Shooting Stars corner kick, and FC Ifeanyiubah captain King Osanga combined with Seka Pascal, who buried the ball behind goalkeeper Michael Uweru. read the rest at www.npfl.ng |
The National Bureau of Statistics, (NBS), has said that residents in Abuja, Cross River, and Adamawa states paid the highest bus fares within city in April. NBS, in a new report released on Tuesday, revealed that the residents paid nothing less than N255.00, N210.54 and N200.00 respectively moving within the cities. Considering the current inflation rate, the data revealed that the fares have risen significantly when compared year on year, and month on month. This means that commuters spent more of their income of movement from one place to another, which also had a ripple effect on the prices of goods and services, thereby further impoverishing Nigerians. source from the Guardian |
For assuming duties before screening and confirmation, President Muhammadu Buhari’s nominee for the position of Director-General, National Lottery Regulatory Commission, Lanre Gbajabiamila, was yesterday asked to steer clear of the office until his nomination is approved by Senate. The Senate warned the nominee who is a younger brother of House of Representatives Majority Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila, not to be seen within the vicinity of the commission. It condemned the resumption of the nominee without an appointment letter and legislative confirmation, saying this is in violation of Section 8 (1) of the Nigerian Lottery Regulatory Commission which stipulates that the president shall appoint the director-general subject to the confirmation of the Senate.
