Caseless:but giving APC/Oshiomole headache of their life |
Less than 24 hours to Wednesday’s gubernatorial election in Edo, many journalists who had arrived the state for coverage of the exercise were yet to be accredited by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Many of the journalists besieged the commission’s headquarters in the state at Ikpoba Hill as early as 7 a.m. on Tuesday and had remained unattended to by officials. He said: “I want the leadership of INEC to ensure that Edo governorship election is free, fair and credible. “The commission should be neural so that the outcome of the election is acceptable to all. Edo people should watch out |
Biochemist, journalist, lawyer, Barrister Osa Director, even though a member of the APC is an avid supporter of the PDP’s candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu. He speaks in this interview the case for the PDP candidate. IT is being said that Gov. Oshiomhole’s good work will be an advantage to Obaseki especially in Benin. Do you agree? Who told you Benin people are rooting for Oshiomhole? I am not an invincible Benin man, but I detest politics of hypocrisy, embellishment and lies. I can emphatically say that the gods and ancestors of Benin Kingdom have since forsaken Oshiomhole and all that he represents. That rejection is waiting for manifestation on September 28, 2016. When you talk of performance, I will agree with you that no sensible person will tell you that Oshiomhole has not done anything. But there are serious questions flowing such acclaimed performance. What is the cost of Oshiomhole’s performance? It may appear unfair to solely judge Governor Oshiomhole for whatever is presumed to be his personal flaws rather than on his political achievement while in office. Oshiomhole’s utterances are very strange to our traditions of respect for elders. You can disagree with elders on issues and even criticize them, but direct personal insult is intolerable. Oshiomhole literarily turned Chief Tony Anenih to his chewing stick. He has personally insulted all prominent Edo sons. The recent one, being his calling the eminent Dr. Tony Iredia a poor man for daring to criticize him. Who is Oshiomhole with his background of peasantry to call Dr. Iredia a poor man? Even in the next world, if there is any, Oshiomhole cannot achieve and attain the professional heights of Dr. Iredia, who is a distinguished journalist and lawyer. What is Oshiomhole’s profession? Where are his educational certificates? Dr. Iredia has two academic doctorate degrees, hard-earned! In any case, in a society where Dr. Iredia is described as poor, then at least 95% of members of such society are poor. If 95% of Edo people are poor, where then is the much media hyped achievements and developmental strides of Oshiomhole? Throughout Oshiomhole’s almost eight years in office, he recklessly embarked and promoted verbal hooliganism and terrorism as an art of governance. His abusive utterances were morally abominable and politically grotesque. Indeed, they were spiritually indefensible. Many people, in your party, APC say that Ize Iyamu will not be able to perform well if elected because he is a protégé of the Igbinedion’s. Do you agree? Obaseki’s case is even a pitiable scenario because he is seen as a third term bid for Oshiomhole. He is seen as possibly more pliant and manipulable, because he has never been in politics, and in government before, and therefore lacks a full grasp of the rumble and tumble of politicking and governance. Now, Oshiomhole has even planted his boy and alter ego as his deputy. It is a tough call for Obaseki than it is for Ize-Iyamu. I am not a very generous person in assessing others’ character. But I challenge anyone to show me any man of Ize-Iyamu’s age who has the political savvy, organizational ability and measured experience in Edo State politics than Ize-Iyamu today? Show me a man of his age who commands the level of political goodwill and has built bridges across the three senatorial districts of Edo State like Ize-Iyamu? Look, that young man is politically grounded and prepared for governance. I am confident Ize-Iyamu will surprise everyone by delivering the dividends of democracy, because he has a rendezvous with history. The Edo PDP governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has advised Edo people and other eligible voters to protect their votes and resist by all means possible any attempt by the APC, security agencies and other institutions to manipulate the governorship election scheduled for Wednesday. Advising officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to do the right things by conducting a free, fair and acceptable election, the PDP candidate however stated that those who have planned to manipulate the election would be disgraced. He also advised the electorate not to allow themselves to be insulted by Governor Adams Oshiomhole and the APC candidate, Godwin Obaseki, through any inducement, saying the APC-led government that had subjected them to unbearable hardship in nearly eight years cannot come on Election Day to offer them money or rice just to purchase their conscience. In a press statement issued by the Media Unit of his campaign organisation on Sunday, Ize-Iyamu said that he is aware of the inhuman treatment many of his supporters, and PDP leaders had been subjected to by the Nigeria Police Force and allegedly by hired thugs in the past few days, saying the Almighty God using the electorate, Edo people would sing victory songs on Wednesday. Accusing Oshiomhole of acting as if he’s the one contesting the election, Ize-Iyamu said that in a way, he’s the one contesting the election because he naturally wants someone to cover his dirty and criminal tracks after November 12, adding that it will never happen. ‘’The people of Edo have concerns over Godwin Obaseki, not only because of his questionable business dealings with Oshiomhole but, more importantly, his inability to account successfully for his academic qualifications”, the PDP candidate added. Ize-Iyamu added that the only answer to the present sorry state of Edo State is for good men and women to punish the APC on September 28 –during the governorship election, for subjecting them to abject and gloomy poverty for years. Ize-Iyamu gave the assurance while addressing various groups which endorsed him for the office of the Edo state governor on account of his experience, calling and capacity to deliver on his Simple Agenda which he says is his covenant with Edo people. ON Wednesday, September 28th 2016, most indigenes of Edo state from home and abroad and from all works of life are expected to have arrived the state to exercise their civic rights. We are all expected to vote into office a new governor who will preside over the affairs of state, for another four years. This particular election contrary to the general belief of peopple outside Edo state is neither about the All Progressive Congress, APC,mouthed performance under Governor Adams Oshiomole nor about the People Democratic Party’s PDP, lack of performance in the years past. It is also not about Godwin Obaseki’s acclaimed economic expertise/wizardry; although this is yet to be proved, nor is it about his presumed ability to hit the ground running once he is elected governor. This election is about the soul and the betterment of Edo State. It is also a calculated attempt to reclaim our state from the grips of a political despot. Available evidence so far, has shown that out of the two front runners in the forthcoming election Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu is far more prepared as a candidate for the office of Edo State Governor and if given the chance he could turn the fortune of the state around and make Edo state great again. The September 28 election is simply a fight to rescue Edo state from the grip of some persons in the corridor power in Benin City. From the moves made so far in Abuja and Benin, Edo people are not unaware that the fight ahead is going to be a tough one. Interestingly, majority of Edo people are determine to fight for the liberation of our state from the Emperor Oshiomole. Majority of the people have long made up their minds and are prepared to face the odds with a will that know no defeat, using their civic rights as their armour, and the Sword of Truth as their weapon. They are determined to confront the ruling party the APC, Oshiomole and his anointed political son Obaseki in a battle of wits. For whatever it is worth, majority of the people are ready to make sure their will prevail no matter the intended APC magic. This determination has unsettled the Edo State APC as they already smell defeat. They know they migh t lose Edo state to PDP. As to be expected, all manner of reasons have so far been adduced by the APC propaganda machines, as the party perfects it plans to rig the forthcoming governorship election. Already in the public domain, are some of the decisions reached in the all night meeting of September 13, 2016. At that same meeting, the intimidating tactics to be deployed by APC on that day were said to have been perfected. The postponement of the election from 10th to 28th September therefore, was one of the final moves to solidify arrangements for this shameful act of election rigging. The resentful anger that followed INEC’s decision to shift the date of the election was not only carried out in bad faith. The outrage that followed was an indication that all is not yet well with our polity. Observers have begun, justifiably, impute some ulterior, less than noble motives to the security report which they believe is a farce. The thesis goes that it is the APC Federal Government that is attempting to use the concocted security report as subterfuge to postpone the ‘evil day of the polls. That if elections are held as scheduled, APC feared it would lose the state to PDP.” In the same vain, Dr. Sylvester Odion Ahaine a political science lecturer at the Lagos State University, react thus to the postponement “I have seized up the political situation in Edo state and extremely worried that democracy in Nigeria is heading for the rock. Therefore, I wish to make the following remarks:- That the optimism of the Nigerian people has kept Nigerian democracy alive despite its asphyxiation by self-serving political elite. That the Edo people should be given the unhindered opportunity to express their franchise and choose from among those vying for their mandate. That on the question of who governs the state, the Edo people retain the veto”. Hear lies the crux of the matter. The right of the people to choose whosoever governs them is what Oshiomole deliberately wants to remove. Now that Oshiomole has done his bit and he is about to leave office after eight years, must he impose a candidate on the Edo people willy-nilly, in the name of continuity? Especially now, that the principles upon which Edo state was created have been eroded by his administration’s tactical moves. For the benefits of those who are not too familiar with the principles that led to the creation of Edo state, the state was created in order to unify the various elements of communities, to crystalise the natural aspirations of our people, to express in concrete form the trend of public opinion, and to emancipate our states from the manacles of political bondage. If one may ask, how far, did Oshiomole’s government helped in the realisation of these aims and objectives? The political, cultural and other tribal gulfs that today exist between the Estako, Esan and the Binis more than ever before are there for all to see. The details of this matter are already in the public domain. Suffice to observe that, at this critical period of our national humiliation due to the poor handling of the nation’s economy by the APC government at the centre, the determination of the Edo people’s to obtain victory in the September 28th election is barricaded by enemies without and within. Happily, the Edo people have also resolve, to ensure that victory at the polls is attained come September 28th. The policy of the out going government in Edo state is a reliable index of the prospects for the future if an APC candidate retains power. Must we continue in this unprofitable way? I say “NO”. I say without equivocation that such policy has been formulated in accordance with the logic of imperialism, buttressed by a false belief about the incapacity of our people to develop initiative. Now is the time to give another person the opportunity to redirect the affairs of our state. I will be in Edo state to vote, I therefore urged all well-meaning indigenes of the state to come out enmasse and vote and defend their votes no matter the intimidation. The days of political brigand are over for good. Edo state is ours. Culled from Vanguard |
INEC is compromising ballot paper to rig in favour of APC. INEC is making the area of PDP in ballot paper slippery and not absorb ink, thus making a vote for PDP void. Edo people must watch out for this ploy. the reason why this election was postpone is now coming out clearer |
The PDP Reform Group has raised the alarm over an alleged plan to introduce compromised ballot papers to rig the poll in favour of the APC. Convener of the Group, Mr Ariyo-Dare Atoye, who raised the alarm yesterday in Abuja, alleged the complicity of the Edo State chapter of the APC and the INEC in what he described as the “despicable plot to subvert the will of the people through criminal manipulation of the ballot papers, which the electoral body plans to deploy for the election.” “Their modus operandi is to use special ballot papers that will make the spot of the PDP where voters are to thumbprint slippery and difficult to absorb ink, with the possibility of the ink staining beyond the mark line to void the PDP votes.” According to Atoye, “We have just received credible information from the grapevine that the INEC has been fully compromised by the APC and the Edo State government in their desperate bid to rig the September 28, 2016, governorship election. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it is confident of victory in the rescheduled governorship election in Edo, if the poll is conducted in a free and fair manner. He said that all the leaders and members of the party irrespective of their interest and factions were working for the party’s candidate, Mr Osagie Ize-Iyamu, in the Sept. 28 election. “I have never heard of any PDP member in Edo, no matter the personal interest of such member campaigning for APC. “All the report reaching me is that all PDP members, irrespective of their aliment, have been campaigning for the party. “That assures us that we are on course and we are confident that if free and fair election holds, we are going to come out victorious. We have no fear at all,’’ Makarfi said. Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/09/edo-2016-pdp-confident-victory-poll-free-fair-makarfi/ |
THE convoy of Dr Idia Ize-Iyamu, the wife of the PDP governorship candidate was yesterday allegedly attacked in Iyamho, Estako West local government area of Edo State by thugs said to belong to the APC deputy governorship candidate, Philip Shuaibu. The incident happened at Jattu market when the PDP women were campaigning from shop to shop educating the people on the contents of the PDP manifesto, tagged SIMPLE AGENDA and how to vote right during the election. During the enlightenment campaign, the market women were heard chanting “PDP!” and “Change the Change!” and this was said to have infuriated the thugs allegedly led by Philip Shuaibu who destroyed several cars in Dr. Idia’s convoy. This led to violence erupting in the market with market women burning any broom in sight, Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/09/mrs-ize-iyamus-convoy-attacked-iyamho/ |
