The High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Nigeria , His Excellency Umer Farooq said on Wednesday in Abuja that Nigeria and Pakistan trade volume has hit $1 billion mark.

He said this while addressing newsmen during an event organised to mark the national ‘Defence Day’ of Pakistan.

Farooq said that the trade relationship between the two countries was hinged on their existing strong cooperation.

He said, “My country is looking forward to improving bilateral ties with Nigeria, by December this year we hope to surpass the existing 1 billion dollars trade volume.”

Two security agencies, the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Security, on Wednesday, in Abuja, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to postpone next Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State.

They said the call was necessitated by the threat of those they referred to as “insurgents” and “extremists” to cause mayhem in the country between September 12 and 13.

Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Don Awunah; and Garba Abdullahi of the DSS, stated this at a short media briefing in Abuja.

PDP candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has cautioned the Edo state government against selling off the assets of Edo LINE, the state-owned transport company.

Edo people will resist any move by the Oshiomhole led the administration to sell off their inheritance which he said took the visionary leadership of elder statesman, Dr. Osaigbovo Ogbemudia to build.

The governorship candidate said, “the assets of Edo Line are more than its liabilities and are located all over the country including the GRA in Benin City, Port Harcourt, Abuja, Kaduna, and Lagos.”

He said dependents and relatives of the thousands of Edo Line workers who were forced out of their jobs by the decision of the Edo state government to close down Edo Line have been suffering and must be reversed.

The flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for the September 10 elections in Edo, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has urged voters to reject the APC for the clannish and discriminatory actions of the outgoing government which he said is manifested in the rot in the infrastructure in the birthplace of the first civilian governor of the state, Prof. Ambrose Alli.

Flaying the APC as a party with a poor record for keeping faith with the people, Ize-Iyamu noted that the Adams Oshiomhole administration had spent 65% of its capital vote in the governor’s village of Iyanmoh, a village he claimed currently has 39 tarred roads with some local governments begging for one.

He spoke weekend during a campaign rally in Ukpenu Community in Esan West Local Government Area, the birthplace of the former governor of the old Bendel State, the late Professor Ambrose Alli.

The PDP candidate, who addressed a mammoth crowd of the elderly, women and enthusiastic youths in the community which comprises Ward 7 of the local government area, said it was on record that apart from the neglect of the once motorable road leading to the community, the Oshiomhole led government has almost killed the state-owned university.

He stated, “This is a local government that produced Governor Ambrose Alli who developed all parts of Bendel State and did not say that because he hailed from Esan West he would not develop Benin City or Etsako.

“It is painful that a governor would come and choose to neglect a place where Alli hailed from. Ukpenu road used to be a strategic road that led to the federal capital, the state capital, and Edo North. It’s regrettable that Governor Oshiomhole says it is a federal road.”

LEADER of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Edo state and a former National Assembly member representing Etsako Federal Constituency, Mr. Abubakar Momoh, has disclosed that Edo will fare better if the PDP governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu is elected governor of the state.

Momoh was speaking yesterday, when he led hundreds of SDP leaders and members to resign from the party to join the PDP at a campaign rally held at Royal block courtyard at Auchi in Etsako West local government area of the state.

He said: “We decided to join the PDP because it has a candidate that will help Edo state get out of where it is today which is not comfortable…that candidate is a person who I believe will help to move Edo forward .

President Muhammadu Buhari led administration in Abuja prepares to receive visiting  US  Secretary of State John Kerry in Aso Rock on Tuesday August 23.
The US Secretary of State who is visiting Kenya, Nigeria and Saudi Arabia is flying in from Nairobi on Tuesday.
Top on his discussion with President Buhari will be the deteriorating human rights record of the administration, the poor state of Nigeria 's  economy which is in a recession  the rising wave of militants attack on oil installations where the interest of US has been hurt, the pro-Islamist agenda of the ruling All Progressives Congress, that is deepening the tension in Nigeria.
Diplomatic sources said Washington which placed key role in the emergence of the Buhari led administration is disappointed with the growing isolationist position of President Buhari and the drift in all sectors of life in Nigeria, contrary to  promises made by the leaders of APC that the Party would be a better alternative to People's Democratic Party.
Kerry is expected to raise the issues of  arbitrary detention of Nigerians and refusal by the Executive arm to adhere to the rule of Law in the fight against corruption in Nigeria.  This has seen Washington issuing two damning criticisms of the Buhari administration in the first one year of its being in office. 
Some of the detained persons have been denied the opportunity to enforce their fundamental human rights while others are being held against judicial decision that granted them bails. 
Among them are the Director of  Radio Biafra and IPOB activist,  Mr.  Nnamdi Kanu, there are also  hundreds of people arrested during street protests demanding for the release of Mr.  Kanu. 
Other knotty points include the continued detention of Islamic  Cleric, Dr. Zak Zaky and brutal killing of over 100 members of Shiites sect in Kaduna state for alleged obstructing the highway which impeded the movement of the convoy of Chief of Army Staff,  the frustration of the trial of former National Security Adviser,  Col.  Sambo  Dasuki and former Chief of Air Staff,  AVM Alexander Badeh.
The Presidency is worried that the notice of  Kerry's visit was too short and abrupt given the wide issues to be discussed. Daily Gazette learnt that  President Buhari is not happy with the agenda for the visit because they are within the domestic domain of Nigeria. The standard brief  prepared for the President is that the magnitude of the corruption under the past administration is what caused the economic collapse that  Nigeria is experiencing today.  The drastic drop in revenue resulting from the global oil price fall,  the activities of  Niger Delta militants have been slated for discussion as factors that led to the economic recession.
US diplomats in Lagos said "some of the challenges facing the Buhari administration are caused by his military mindset which regards flexibility in governance as a sign of  weakness."
The crisis with the National Assembly,  his refusal to entertain the idea of restructuring of Nigeria or look at the report of the National Conference are seen as dangerous sign posts for peace and stability in Nigeria.  Mr.  Kerry is expected to raise similar concerns in Sokoto where he is to deliver a speech on counter terrorism and religious tolerance.  He will be received by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar  Sa'ad on Wednesday.

A female elder cousin who reside in USA with her husband(She has been away for the past 18yrs) came on Sunday, also with her husband who is a Yoruba man, an engineer, he is related to mimiko's wife. We were at Benin airport to pick to, and that was what we did. from Benin airport, airport road, to prestige hotel, they were overwhelmed with what they saw, airport road. Afterward we drove to Uromi(my place), then to Ekpoma(to visit a relation), and returned to Benin, same day. All through the journey, we passed through, airport road, Akpakpava road, mission road, new lagos road, upper mission road and finally, siluko road, all in Benin. All the roads we drove through, they were all Tared with drainages, walkways, street lights and traffic lights, all of them working. This is how the present Edo state is, and not how it was. So I implore you to pay a visit and come see your, Edo state, with your own eyes.
