Politics / Re: Tonye Princewill Quits APC Over Muslim-Muslim Presidential Ticket by Concience55: 4:55am On Jul 13, 2022
[quote author=Eriokanmi post=114672643]More to come . That combo is annoying. Tinubu actually encouraged this in 2015 but buhari kicked against it. He stagnated a walk out of their meeting ahead of the 2015 elections as a means of protesting against the arrangement. Baba akande , aregbesola, etc had to talk his head off before osinbajo was considered as baba's running mate at the 11th hour . Tinubu has failed on this . Go to the twitter and see the way northerners kicked against this.

Each time he's approached on the arrangement, Tinubu would be making a reference to 1993 when MKO and Kingibe ran on same arrangement, pretending to forget the fact that Nigeria of that time wasn't as volatile and divided as Nigeria of today. He's also failed to realise that the main reason Nigerians opted into such an arrangement was because we wanted to send the military to the barracks at all cost and anything that would make that happen was welcome. We were so desperate that time cos military era was terrible.

As stubborn as they were, the military sef never made such mistakes of Muslim-Muslim leaderships throughout their decades of occupying Nigerian leadership space.

No, the Military (Buhari) did ruled with a Muslim/Muslim and infact with a Fulani/ Fulani because Tunde Idiagbon was a Fulani from Kwara. Both were Northerners.

The present realities makes winning with a Muslim/Muslim ticket slim.

I want to be real here, as a Christian that school in the North.
Northern Muslims see yoruba Muslims as infidel, just the way they see christians. Reason why a yoruba Muslim can not lead in a mosque, where there's a northern Muslim.
If Tinubu picks a northern christian as running mate, most northerners will see it more like christian Christian ticket, and they won't vote him.

While Southerners chose competence over tribe or region. Northerners chose religion over the rest.

Northern Muslims cherish power so much, and while, we christians only make noise on social media, they are the real electorate. That's why they will still chose who leads in 2023.

This might sound bitter, but the only chance, Tinubu stand against Atiku in 2023, is picking a northern Muslim as a running mate

Sad.....but bitter truth.

The absordity of Democracy.

A few individuals (delegates) will be heavily bribed to vote the candidate with the deepest pocket, then the generality of Nigrians will be required to endorse the product of bribery in the general election.

What an irony .

Yes Falae is a good man but more of a regional leader same as Tinubu, forget the national leader appellation.

Two eminently qualified Yoruba sons vied for the office in 1999 and majority made their choice.
How's Igbo to be blamed for that if I may ask?

That's not bragging, use common sense now. These people (Buhari, Osinbajo, Dapo and co) are already taking steps and showing signs of betrayals, he only reminded them of how he stood by them when they needed him at different times because they seemed to have forgotten.

Loyalty should be first and foremost to one's country before an individual.
His standing by them should be out of conviction that they are capable of engendering a better Nigeria not because of pecuniary gains.

Asiwaju Tinubu is in the habit of sacrificing public Intrest in his bid to achieve personal or party goals.

An example is the way he manipulated and connived with Aminu Tambuwal for him to clinch the Speakership position ahead of the PDP's preffered Yoruba candidate. All in a bid to portray PDP in bad light in the South West. This not a Hallmark of statesman.

You guys don't realize that in Asiwawu's desperations, and political manovery, it is the South generally that bear the negative consequences.

Speakership that is supposed to be for the South West he sacrificed it and also Sacrificed Southern President when he backed Buhari ahead of Jonathan.

And to think that he did all these just to achieve his personal ambition calls his very character to question.
I do not pray that Asiwaju should benefit from his desperation and treachery, so it can serve as a deterrent to other politicians.

By the way, I take exception to these "use common sense now"
You can make your point without it. Am not your average Niralander. The education we have makes it mandatory that we always maintain decorum even when our opinions differs.

Maind you among the current contestants only Peter Obi and Yemi Osinbajo can make a little difference in badly bartered country.

Backing his candidate’s boasts about him helping Muhammadu Buhari to be president in 2015, Shettima said nobody can dispute Tinubu’s claims.

The southeast people are known for their double face. For the past 7 years now they have been attacking Tinubu for imposed Buhari on them. But guess what the story change yesterday from the same people ,when Tinubu said he made Buhari president of Nigeria.

Igbo people saying no Tinubu didn't.

Is it not an insult to Nigerians including you, that an individual lays claim to making someone President in a country of over 200milion people?

I don't know of any individual who have made such claim in the past, even though it's common knowledge that no body can become President without the backing of others.

IBB/ Abdusalam did not make such claim against Obasanjo.

Obasanjo did not make such claim against Yar'adua.

It's common knowledge that Obasanjo set Jonathan on his part to Nigeria President yet he's not bragging about it.

He is a man of strong character, and he would respect you as long as you don't try to control him. If Atiku needs a puppet, then he can shop for the smaller governors that are nursing the ambition, but if he needs a partner, and a strong assistant to lead this great nation, then he has WIKE as the only option in PDP that fits this description.

Even you as a Presidential candidate will not opt for an uncouth and strong vice.

We all saw where it almost landed Obasanjo, with Atiku's then lager than life political stature.

Obasanjo almost lost his second term bid even to the extent of stooping to beg Atiku.

No President wants a strong vice who would compete with him, from Good luck Jonathan to Namadi Sambo to Osinbajo, a Vice President must be submissive and this the only criteria required.

They will be minimal and very easy to influence by money bags...

For PDP and APC....this electoral act eliminating statutory delegates have given enormous power on State Governors...

The Governors will determine who wins the primary...both in APC and PDP.

Also, with this development....Wike has a chance, if he gets the block votes from SouthWest going by the speeches of Gov Seyi Makinde and Fayose

Wike has a chance no doubt, but you would be gifting the President to the APC on a platter of gold if Wike manages to acquire the PDP ticket.

I doubt if Okwute Ndigbo can defeat Dave Umahi in a Nigerian Presidential contest .

It's not only the Igbo that will do the voting as Umahi has more appeal up north.

And if you talk about verifyable achievement on ground, Umahi is also ahead of the Rock in infrastructure development.
