@congoshine,
that u quote the bible here makes this more interesting.

have u forgotten that it is writen; ANY TONGUE THAT SHALL ARISE AGAINST YOU IN JUDGEMENT SHALL BE CONDEMED.

do u still remember ; THOU SHALL NOT JDUGED SO THAT YE SHALL NOT BE JUDGED.

what moral justification do u have as a christian to call someone USELESS?

the bible says, everyone ways are right before him but the end is death. your ways are right before u and that of balotteli is right before him. if God does not condem someone, who are you to do so?

if you are born in america, u have to live up to that. u must accept the fact that USELESS is such a strong word.

by the way, it was during the huricane that we knew that some parts of america are mere glorified ajegunle. which part of america were u born? new orlenas or las vegas?

it will be important for us to know if u are a nigerian or american because this forum is mostly for nigerians and that is why it is called nairaland and not dollarland or americanland. if you are american as u claim, why not go and look for puff daddy and jayz to argue with instead of bring the f, u, *c*k mentality here.

LagosShia:
Bahraini ex-prisoners expose UK role

Bahrain's former political prisoners, recently released from jail, hold the UK government responsible for the repressive policies of the Bahraini regime.

Bahraini ruler King Hamad al-Khalifa freed more than 300 political prisoners, recently, in a concession to protesters who are fed up with his 40-years brutal rule in the tiny Persian Gulf island state.

Released political prisoners include academics, human rights activists, bloggers and clerics, according to Bahraini news report.

The Bahrain Center for Human Rights has affirmed the former prisoners' claims that they have been subjected to “extreme systematic torture”.

“The British government bears a heavy responsibility for the repression in Bahrain. What we have here is an apparatus of torture that was formed and instructed by British security personnel”, said one of the released detainees, Abduljalil al-Singace, a professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Bahrain.

Many detainees and opposition figures believe that British personnel continue to be involved in the policies and practices of Bahrain's secret police, the Security and Intelligence Service.

They point out that the methods of interrogation are “identical” to those used during the 1970s, 80s and 90s when the SIS was headed by Ian Henderson, a British police officer, who is believed to still reside in and act as a personal advisor to the king of Bahrain.

Bahraini opposition groups recognize the notorious Henderson, now in his late eighties, as the “torturer-in-chief”.

British parliamentarians, including Lord Avebury, George Galloway and Jeremy Corbyn have previously called on the British government to prosecute him over personal involvement in gross maltreatment of Bahraini prisoners, some of whom died in custody.

Another released prisoner, Professor al-Singace was imprisoned last August in the run-up to general elections in the country.

“We are calling on the European Court of Human Rights to hold the British government to account for the inhumane repression in Bahrain. British citizens have been involved in the most barbaric treatment of innocent civilians with the knowledge and consent of the British government”, said Professor al-Singace.

The former detainees, over and over again, invoked the name of the former head of state security, Henderson, as the ultimate author of their torturous conditions.
They were electrocuted on the focal places, while others were violated by the guards with glass bottles, as evidenced by the former prisoners. Others said they were hung by the hands and feet “like animals” and beaten with hard rubber hoses.

One Shia political activist, aged 58, who gave his name only as Mohammed, said he had personally encountered Henderson.

“The repression and torture used by the Bahraini regime is largely the work of Ian Henderson. But it wasn't just Henderson. The entire security apparatus of this country was commanded by Henderson and British officers. The Bahraini regime inherited the torture apparatus from the British who continued to run it after independence. The people who are doing the torture now were instructed and trained by British officers and their system of torture is very much in practice today”, said Mohammed, who was detained without trial for nearly five years during the 1970s.

Henderson, who was awarded the George Cross for quashing the Mau Mau uprising in Kenya during the 1950s, was installed by the UK government as head of security in Bahrain in 1968 when the country was a British protectorate and at the same time it was challenged by a mainly Shia independence movement.
Older Bahraini activists recalled that there was a sharp spike in repression and maltreatment of prisoners in the years following Henderson's appointment - a role he held for 30 years.

In 1986 - after tens of thousands of Bahrainis had been through the prison system, many claiming horrific maltreatment - Henderson was awarded the CBE in the UK's honors list.

“Britain imposed the al-Khalifa regime on the people of Bahrain and schooled these rulers in how to suppress our people trying to achieve democracy and freedom. The British and the monarchy here enjoyed the oil wealth of this country, while we have been treated like slaves - and to keep us like slaves, our rulers have relied on British repressive know-how. They have used British divide-and-rule sectarian policies between Shia and Sunni and they have criminalized Shia people who have simply been demanding their democratic rights for many decades”, said Mohammed.

Mohammed noted that Bahrain was just another example of how “Western governments have employed dictators throughout the Middle East to crush people”. These Westerners are now being exposed for their “criminal use of dictators”.

“Everywhere the British and American governments have been involved, we see the same torture methods, including in Northern Ireland, Bahrain, Iraq, Afghanistan,” he said. “This is the reality behind their claims of supporting democracy and human rights.”

Just seeing all the posts. ,  very interesting.
Its important to note the Press TV is owned by the theocratic Iranian regime

A classic case of pot calling kettle black  cheesy cheesy

IRAN TORTURES PRO-DEMOCRACY PROTESTERS http://iranbriefing.net/archives/5002

I'm certainly not justifying killing or torture of protesters anywhere, but we should realise that human beings are bad & evil all over the world be it Shia ,Sunni or Christian or Atheist. Thats why the false premise religious people base their life upon ,that they are somehow 'special' because they hold certain beliefs is absolutely ludicrous.

We all exhibit normal traits of human beings - we love intimacy  cheesy cheesy  (despite the hypocrisy of some on NL  tongue ),food, money etc & yes some people go to the extreme - never allowing dissent & ready to kill anybody they do not agree with.

Trying to make this a 'religious' trait is fundamentally flawed.

I see no difference between the bahraini regime from the Iranian regime from  the dealy  soviet regime led by stalin or the oppressive communist regime led by Mao- because they all have one thing in common - THEY ARE HUMAN BEINGS !!!

Its also interesting that in almost all countries apart from Iran with significant shia population there's a lot of instability - Iraq ,Lebanon,Yemen and now Bahrain.

The Iran regime is probably the greatest exporter of instability in the world ,under the guise of 'Islamic revolution'.

Even in Nigeria, who can forget easily the riots in the north led by Zakzaky the Iranian stooge r the recent attempt to import arms to Nigeria for which an Iranian 'diplomat' is still under arrest http://iranbriefing.net/archives/5194.

All in all ,I think its rather ingenious for anyone to try to portray political Shia Islam as being right ,while others are wrong.

Just my thoghts. . . .

if i tell u that i know what filthy lucre means, i will be a very big liar but no matter what it means, i hope u are not comparing nigeria to italy.
99% of italian players are home based because they have a very good, lucrative and strong league.
again, i would want to remind u of the thread topic of which u are the author.
balotteli according to is useless and i said that the useless balotteli is more useful than most of u useful nigerians.
at least since 1990, u have visited italy just for five times while balotteli that was born the same u ran out of nigeria has visited where u are more than 100 times.
don't be decieved, balotteli is doing better than u both in uselessness andd usefulness.

Balotelli was born in Italy, I was born in the US,you where probably born in Awka . . . . so what ? huh

IT DOESN'T F*CKING MATTER !!

Don't focus on such irrelevant things like money, passport, travel etc. Focus on the personality of human beings ,which is the main gist of this thread.

So whether someone was born in Italy or Congo Brazaville, has all the money in the world,if he/she doesnt behave properly.anybody can and should call him/her to order.

Money isnt everything .

Even the Bible says 'For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?' (Matt16:26)

About Balotelli: He doesnt take pleasure in what he does. its mechanical. he takes no joy in the goals he scores. he gets into unneeded spats with everyone. He overly aggressive like a teenager. He is the worst employee a manager will dream of (individual star performer but with very poor social skills and hated by a lot of people).

About Me: I keep your country running by working for a company that supplies the lifeblood on which your country runs. my skills support and drive that objective. I am useful and my pocket reflects that fact massively on a regular monthly basis.

About You: Your goal is to be useless. You worship people like balotelli because of his paycheck. That is the major Nigerian illness. You worship any with money. The IMF has a so-called 'ownership' just for public view. But there is a cabal of the IMF who is above those powers, just like many governments of the world. (Obama, does he have power? OF COURSE NOT! The US president cannot even visit military bases in the USA!) Now, what I am saying is that we know for sure there is a secret power behind the IMF, because there's a lot of evidence.

Thinking that the IMF is owned by all countries is a fraud, because countries would not try to control themselves. The IMF forces itself into many countries, and all of those countries end up with crashed governments, crashed economies, and massive riots. Look at IRELAND or GREECE or ICELAND, not to mention the African countries.

A whistleblower who worked in the World Bank stole secret documents from the IMF/World Bank, which showed how the IMF forced all countries to sign 111 different policies in secret, sell all of their key assets (gold, oil, electricity), and also to ascertain that an economic crisis in their countries is possible at all times.

The whistleblower's name is Joe Stiglitz.

Of course the US, UK, and France act as one. They all work together to install puppet governments. When they are flourishing, they may try to overthrow one puppet to install their own, but when they cannot control a country, they will all act as one. Just like how the big banker families (Warburgs, Rockefellers, Rothschilds, Windsors) would compete but would always act as one when their power is threatened.

The UN, EU, and IMF are all assets of these powers. And it is only the governments BEHIND the public governments in those countries. But slowly, they hidden powers are BECOMING the public powers, as we have seen with George Bush in 2000-2008, or Jay Rockefeller becoming Senator of West Virginia recently.

Gbagbo knows that his so-called 'opposition' are hand-in-hand with CIA, MI6, IMF, and Freemasons, and that is why he does not want to see his country be another asset for these powers.

And you said 'illuminati' and 'lucifer', which is something I never said? Why mention this. What do you mean by those words?
Kindly google illuminati. Its all related to the Rothschild, freemason conspiracy. I've dealt with them endlessly on NL and otehr forums.

Please give me your proof of 'under-G' ownership of IMF or else hold your peace.

CONGOSHINE You are only listening to mainstream information which is owned by the same top bankers that doesn't bear any real information.

The IMF's owners are truly owned by the richest men in the world, which is really the Rothschilds.

Look, the IMF does not help any country. They put all 3rd-world countries into massive debt which enslaves their people. Look at how BIRTH CERTIFICATES are used only for the benefit of the elite bankers, as they use human beings as cattle. They steal all countries' gold, and make sure 3rd-world countries will always rely on them.

ALI BONGO of GABON is a freemason. His ceremony can be viewed here.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9UNLz4lo8k&feature=related

NGUESSO of CONGO-BRAZAVILLE, another freemason. Another ceremony here.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5sDIWWQhck&feature=player_embedded#

So now I proved this and showed that you clearly present incorrect information.

Obama, is a CIA agent. His whole family had connections with CIA. If you research his bloodlines, he is even related to many politicians who were in office, like George Bush and D. Cheney. Watch, if you try to ridicule this, I will prove it to you just like how I proved to you the freemason leaders in some African countries. Also, he is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, Bilderberg Group, and Trilateral Commission, all of these owned and founded by none other than the ROCKEFELLERS, another top banking family closely affiliated with the Rothschild family.

So what can you say, brother?
What do you mean by 'The IMF's owners are truly owned by the richest men in the world, which is really the Rothschilds' ? Did you visit their website? The ownership isn't of hedge funds which you could link to individuals - BUT SOVEREIGN COUNTRIES !

Do the rothchilds & jews have connesction -most definitely, but to link them to all of the world's problems & solution is tantamount to calling them God.

Thanks for the youtube on Bongo- this is what Im talking about. This proves he's a freemason, but the otehr part of the argument hold no water.

On Obama -more hogwash - he's a cousin by 18 generations to Cheney,I'm sure I am related to you somehow if we research properly, just as most humanbeings are. This means nothing ! Supply proof not hearsay.

You and I know the truth. , . enjoy yourself ,but don’t play with senior board members of NL ,ok?
Before I proceed, I just want to advise that you need to steer clear of conspiracies. Anything you cannot prove, please avoid stating is as fact.
As the popular saying goes -rumours are started by enemies and spread by ignoramuses (no insults intended).

hakim23:
IMF - Congoshine, do you know who OWNS the I.M.F? It is none other than the Rothschild banking family! The truth stands up to scrutiny, so no denying there. The IMF is known to be clandestinely usurping power in the economic field all over the world. The IMF is used by the powers of Britain and the USA, the Windsors, Rothschilds, and other banking powers. The IMF powers desire to tyrannically control all economic activities of all countries. These powers are known to utilize debt to overtake power and institute a hegemony over countries.
Ownership of the IMF can be found via their website or Wikipedia
http://www.imf.org/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Monetary_Fund
You will observe that it is ‘owned’ by over 150 sovereign countries and NOT Rothschild. The bible asks people to study to show yourselves approved (2 Tim 2:15)

hakim23:
FREEMASONS - Freemasons, only the ones at the high-ranking levels, hand in hand with other powers, recruit people in governments and try to influence governments and control them. Anywhere in the world, freemasons recruit indigenous people in countries to cause the highest-ranking freemasons, which are top bankers (IMF and Rothschild connection) to really rule.
Look at Benin, with a huge Freemason presence in government, or Congo-Brazaville, or how the Freemasons installed Ali Bongo in power in Gabon. Obama is also a 33 degree freemason. Why all this power? Even leaders in Jordan have been known to be involved with Freemasonry, not excluding Israel, of course. Even in Saudi Arabia, freemasonry is present in the royal family.
The royalties all over Europe are top-ranking Freemasons. In Tanzania, 'opposition' leaders have dubious ties with Freemasons. Freemasonry is used mainly by the British and French elites to recruit others all over the world to control and influence them.
Again pure innuendo, since they do not publish their membership list, unless you can show me an interview where Obama or any of the people you have mentioned says he’s a member,I’d rather not speculate.

hakim23:
CORRUPTION I don't know why you use 'Tea Party' as an example. Many of them are credible and good, who don't want this tyranny in America and the loss of rights. The original goal of the Tea Party was also to preserve the peoples' civil rights, and to always keep the Constitution and Bill of Rights, and to end the corrupt wars.
But, the Tea Party has been hi-jacked by the FBI and powers that be of the country. This is clearly exhibited. Some people may lie and use Obama's religion as a distraction from the US elites' real affairs, but Obama is a 33 degree Freemason. You use the word 'conspiracy' to try to be ignorant and discredit any plots, but the world elites are conspiring to remain in power and to expand it.
Forget the issue of rights,if you follow American politics,no other president curtailed people’s rights like George Bush after 911,where were the tea party peeps then?

It’s simple Obama is not like them – he’s black with a muslim name so he must be from the devil to persecute christians- my pastor (an Asian even gave me some bible verses to prove that obama is the anti Christ).

The problem I have is that christians around the world especially in America, can’t draw the line between pure politics and religious beliefs.
Smart politicians will say mix-up different things without any proof or basis and link it all up for gullible people to believe.

jabal1 = hakim23 grin grin grin

Imagine the dunce talking to himself, you seem to underestimate the intelligence of great Nairalanders angry

Back to your 'allegations'.

1. ‘GBAGBO won because more people were protesting in his favour’ - Complete fallacy ,Ivory Coast is currently divided into 2 (North & South) due to the civil war - Quattara has almost exclusive following in the North, while the south is shared largely with Gbagbo. The capital Abidjan is in the South, but even here you have Quattara suburbs.

2. QUATTARA,CAMPAORE & IVORY COAST POLITICS - If you take time to study the recent history of Ivorien politics, you’ll find out that Quattara came on the scene in 1990 as unelected prime minister of founding father of modern Ivory coast- Felix Houphet Boigny. Upon the death of Boigny, Quattara decided to exercise his right to contest the presidency.
Due to his popularity, and facing imminent defeat he was tagged as a ‘foreigner’ by political opponents and some one who was prime minister was suddenly told he was actually from Bukina faso(hence the link with campaore), The fact is many Ivoriens have links to Ghana,Nigeria,Bukina Faso and Liberia.
His candidature has been ONE of the looming reasons behind the unrelenting crises in Ivory coast up till the present day.

3. IMF – As the name implies is set up to provide funding for its members (most countries in the world) ,same with the World Bank,we have similar bodies here in Africa-namely the ADB(Africa Dev bank). Even the United states, Japan & EU countries have had to battle with issues of debt at one point or the other-so no conspiracy here.

4.FREEMASONS – Please google Nairaland and the internet to get a proper understanding of the conspiracies associated with this. It honestly doesn’t make any sense.
Do freemasons exist? Yes of course. Do they control the world on behalf of the Rosthchilds & the Jews , no ! Their influence is no more than the influence of Muslims ,Havard graduates, catholics etc. Ever adherent or group has some from of influence to some degree.
5. CORRUPTION – I can not vouch for anybody as being incorruptible (not even Ribadu. . lol!),so that is another matter ,but don’t mix-up numerous issues & come up with one answer.
Finally, always take conspiracies with a pinch of salt. A good example is the birther/tea party wing of the republican party in the US- probably the best at this -they’ll link up Obama to muslims & then to Jews and finally to Lucifer . . . .

still yes. every thing in life is governed by cause and effect. if you do not put the cause in motion through the choices you made then you will not get the effect that you are enjoying now. the causes i am talking about did not start only in this life time. it started many lifetimes ago.

the fact that you do not understand another person's viewpoint or opinion should not make you to abuse them.
it is really not necessary. what you do not know now or understand now, you may come to understand it later. what will you call me then? a coconut head? grin grin grin e.g Galileo and the catholic church grin grin

thanks all the same and remain blessed.
Ok sorry for the insults, but its rather strange.

@ poster
i will rephrase the question like this: what are the things that good people do that allow bad things to happen to them?
God has nothing to do with what happens to us. what happens to us are the results of the choices we make in life. what goes around comes around.
those people you may see as good people may actually have skeletons in their closet which you are not aware of.
be good inside and outside and good things will follow you.
So the Japanese asked to be born Japanese, and when the tsunami hit their country. . , . . . . . , . was their fault ? undecided

jajaopobo:
Interesting discussion here. A lot has been said about how Dosunmu's brightest moment was asking Fashola to explain why the incumbent govt was building the Lekki - Aajah road at a cost of N1b per km. But let's really examine that statement really - sure the amount sounds really high, but I suspect Dosunmu may have rather displayed his ignorance than brilliance by asking that question because he did not benchmark that cost against any known internationally accredited standard or a comparative project in any part of the world. So who is to say that the cost is unusual just because it sounds high?

In fact, I blame BRF for not challenging him on that issue, because a precursory look at a report on the WSDOT lists certain factors as affecting the cost of a highway which they say varies quite widely. These factors include:
• Structures and interchanges: Projects that have structures and interchanges have a much higher cost per lane mile. The road in question may not have any interchanges, but it does have structures (toll gates, foot bridges and a fence). It also has a lot of side roads constructed for access to buldings cut off by the fence.
• Right of way: This may not apply as the govt already owned the right of way
• Environmental impacts: Not sure how much of this was built into the design, but I'm aware a lot of work went into detrminng the impact of widening the bride at Mobil, etc.
• Existing soil and site conditions: Differing soil and site conditions also have an impact on the cost per lane mile. This is a major point here due to the silty and water-logged nature of Lekki and is sure to impact very heavily on the cost.

Now to look at a few international exapmles for comparison and see how the Lekki-ajah expansion unit cost really fares. First of all Dosunmu claims the road is costing N1b/km. Let's assume this is true, then the figure comes to approx. $6.7m/km at today's exchange rate. So a few examples below.
[li]SR 18 widening in rural King County (no interchanges) - about $24.5 million per mile = $15.4m per km
I-5 widening in Vancouver (2 interchanges) – about $20.2 million per mile = $12.6m per km
I-5 adding single HOV lanes from Tukwila to Fife (solid ground) – about $11.2 million per mile = $7m per km[/li]
[li][/li]
Even a sample of responses from other discussion forums (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=856330) on the internet yield the following answers:
[li]$ 14 million or € 11 million per kilometer, seems quite standard - ChrisZwolle from Holland
In Poland it's € 6-10 mln ($8.3 - 13.9m) on average, although it gets to as much as € 20-25 mln ($28 - 34.7m) in heavily-urbanized areas - Majestic from Poland
In a developing country like Ireland, the costs are on average $10 million a kilometer, [/li]
[li][/li]
It would appear that the quoted unit cost fares favourably with comparable international projects, Of course this is not completely accurate as it would require detailed matching of the circumstances and details of each project being compared. This is something which I may not be able to do but which one would certainly have expected from a governorship candidate of no less a party as PDP with so many people working on his campaign. I guess the real question is: is this how unprofessional he plans to be if elected?
My governor. . .I'm happy you use nairaland. Please remember me when you get elected.

Delta007:
Dazangel has a point. These folks are pulling a blinder and some of you folks are applauding.SMH. None of these candidates have been able to articulate a plan to move Nigeria forward. Every one of them have either used the opportunity to criticise PDP or to promise to get milk and honey flowing for free. Any Tom in Timbuktu can do just that - blab empty promises to get into office. The main question is "how". But guess what? Alot of Nigerians (as exhibited on this forum) are applauding a group of individuals because they criticised a PDP led govt and promised to give Nigerians a better life. This is what any reasonable politician would do; lies, promises, etc. For instance, everyone of them will tell you "we will solve the electricity crisis and provide jobs for people". Ask them how they intend to do it and how long it would take their plan to mature and watch them fibble (and lie even more). The fact is that these parties have very little (or no) difference in ideologies. PDP has been wise to back out of these "debates" because it would probably be a debate of attacks rather than a debate of who's plan is better. I'm not saying PDP is a better party or have better candidates but from a standpoint of being in the pole position, they do not have to stoop to exchange words. Most of you (and even candidates like Bakare) throwing tantrums at Sambo for not showing up will be less inclined to do so if you had such an advantage. This is politics in Nigeria. I'm sure some of you watched the Lagos "debate". How many plans were carefully articulated there? Can anyone tell me any difference in idealogies between the parties? Everyone had the usual promises but no depth in implementation. Can you imagine a gubernatorial candidate saying he'd build houses without cement? grin Most of the time, the other candidates verbally attacked Fashola. Fashola on the other hand, I thought was woeful, but with shallow candidates by his sides, he was a star. I'm glad the "debate" held to show Nigerians how shallow some of these politicians are; they are the same ones trying to pull a blinder for the Presidential elections.

Some of you yakking here lack basic understanding of how the Nigerian electorial process works. When PDP wins, most would say the election was rigged. However, with only a few weeks to a presidential election, if you do a simple research, you'd find out that PDP have done better overall "leg work" than any other party in the country. They have gone into so many rural areas to drum up votes; yes, people live in rural areas and are eligible to vote, not just Lagos and Abuja. Other parties think they can win the Nigerian election on the internet or on TV (I laugh in Hausa). A significant number of people in Nigeria do not even have electricity to watch TV or go online. If these parties cannot go to rural areas to even lie to them to get their votes, how are they going to cater for these folks when they get into office? People like Bakare are just making noise about not trusting Jega. The fact is, every party will try to rig the election in their favour (that's Nigeria for you); however, parties are only able to rig elections where they are strong; that's simple common sense. PDP will not be successful in rigging an election in Lagos just as ACN will not be successful in rigging the polls in Kaduna.

People should open their eyes and start asking these folks about their so-called mandates are and how they plan to accomplish them. I've gone through most campaign sites (where one would think the candidates would have a more detailed plan) and nothing suggests that they'd be any different from the current administration. Methinks that some of them are a disaster waiting to happen, if they ever get into office. As my Warri people would say, shine your eye well well and do not let anyone confuse you with grammer.

Quite frankly, there's no party (or candidate) I can recommend. What I know for sure is that if this current govt is voted out, the new govt (no matter how genuine their intentions are) will not be effective enough to do anything till around their third year in office and then they'd have to restart their campaign for a second term. Can Nigerians sustain another three years of inactivity? Dunno but do not blame a new government for being ineffective in its early years. GEJ and his people have not been able to do anything substantial and he has been in power for less than a year. This is the Nigerian way of doing things; you get into power, clear house and you have to pay hommage to the several pockets of power houses in the country (there's nothing you can do about it). Like I usually say, with the way our failed system is set up, even Moses will have big problems leading Nigerians to the promised land (wherever that is).
Well we don't need good reasons to vote for other parties,we have sufficient reason NOT to vote PDP. 12 years is enough !!! Unmitigated dsaster both at the federal & state levels . 40% Unemployment and poverty , massive illiteracy. No electricity . . .na so , so million ,billion naira security vote and salary for politicians.

Selective Exposure
The primary basis for the selective exposure assumption can be located within cognitive dissonance theory.

Basically, this theory states that people do not like to have previously-held beliefs challenged. When individuals encounter information that is discrepant from their own opinions, they seek to resolve the resultant disharmony somehow.

People in general do not like to be wrong.

A change or shift in attitude is sometimes interpreted as an admission that the original belief was inaccurate or inadequate. To avoid having their opinions challenged, research indicates that people tend to simply avoid information that might be discrepant in nature (Johnson-Cartee and Copeland, 1997). Support for this tendency to avoid dissonant messages can also be found in mood management theory. Basically, this theory states that people expose themselves to stimuli that are pleasurable and avoid stimuli that might induce a negative reaction (Zillman & Bryant, 1985).
Zillmann, D., & Bryant, J. (1985). Affect, mood, and emotion as determinants of selective exposure. In D. Zillmann & J. Bryant (Eds.), Selective exposure to communication (pp. 157–190). Hillsdale, NJ: Erlbaum.
