4 Things You Must do if Your Husband Uses Porn 1. You Must Grieve Your Husband’s Porn Use It’s going to come as a major sucker punch. You’ll feel betrayed, and dirty, and angry. That’s natural. Likely you knew something was wrong, and you suspected something, but you couldn’t put your finger on it. Now you know, and very likely the feelings are overwhelming. People often arrive on this blog the night they discover their husband watching porn, and they find posts talking about pornography use and pour out their hurt in the comments. That hurt is raw and very real. That’s okay. Give yourself some grace to be upset. Give yourself some time to yell at God about it, to wrestle this through, and to cry. You don’t have to fix anything overnight, and sometimes if we try too hard to fix it right now we do more damage. At times, when we first find out something so devastating, we’re tempted to say, “it’s okay, I know you didn’t mean it, let’s just forget it and go back to normal” because we’re afraid to face what this means. But we need to admit brokenness. If we don’t admit it, it can’t be fixed. And it could be that what God is going to make out of the pieces of your heart and your relationship, will be different from what you started with, but that doesn’t mean it won’t also be beautiful. Grieve, and give God time to work. Don’t deny the gravity of the hurt. And don’t deny the gravity of the effects of porn on a marriage, either! At the same time, if I can offer some reassurance, so many marriages have emerged on the other side. And one thing that helps is that, after that initial grief is over, you realize that you are on the same page, fighting an evil together. Don’t let porn come between you; instead, decide to fight together to defeat your husband’s porn addiction. Most Christian men desperately want to stop watching porn. They don’t want to be doing this. It enslaves them. If you can be an ally, rather than an attacker, you both will move forward so much more easily. 2. You Must Live in the Light and Not Keep His Porn Use a Secret Porn thrives on secrecy. In her book, Vicki recounts the words of one woman, married 45 years, who discovered her husband’s masturbation habit two years into this marriage. “if it ever got out, I’d kill myself,” he told her. And so she didn’t say a word, and lived with it. For 45 years. Can you imagine? Vicki doesn’t believe that staying in darkness is the answer. As I’ve said before, you need to bring these things to light. As a church, we need to bring this to light. There is so much ignorance around the whole pornography problem. It truly does ensnare people, making it almost impossible for them to function normally sexually with a human being. What becomes arousing is an image, and they become so focused on masturbation and pornography that a relationship isn’t sexy anymore. And it’s too much work! Once you start using porn, too, it rarely stays with the tame stuff. People will seek out more and more hard core stimulation. Eventually, they may even act things out. This isn’t people just looking at something to get their jollies; this is something that can all too easily turn into an addiction. And that’s why you must bring light to it. You can’t let it stay a secret. Your husband needs help, but so do you. You will likely need someone to walk through this process with you, and that’s okay. More churches need to provide support for couples going through recovery from a porn addiction. And most pastors have dealt with this at length. So talk to your pastor and find out what support your church offers. 3. You Must Get Help It is not enough for a husband to apologize and promise never to do it again. You wouldn’t accept that of an alcoholic; you would ask him or her to go to AA meetings. The same goes for porn use. There’s such shame involved with pornography because it’s sexual, but the admonition from... http://www.controversialada.com/2016/04/4-things-you-must-do-if-your-husband.html |

How Do I Know I’m Not Marrying the Wrong Guy? Reader Question: How do I know I'm not marrying the wrong guy? When it comes to knowing if he’s the wrong guy, character trumps everything. Sure there may be personality issues: what if he’s outgoing and you’re not? What if he’s adventurous and loves the outdoors, and you love nothing more than decorating your little nest and staying at home? What if he dreams of being a pastor and you always swore you’d never marry into the ministry? But these things can easily be overcome with a change in attitude, perspective, or just a little compromise. When it comes to knowing if he’s the wrong guy, character trumps everything. When it comes to avoiding a marriage that could be abusive, or where affairs or porn or secrecy may be a part, character trumps everything else. If a guy has good character, he isn’t going to have an affair on you. He isn’t going to be emotionally abusive. He isn’t going to tell you you’re fat and demand that your body stay a certain size. Yes, some great marriages end up in affairs, but that really is the exception, not the rule. When I was dating my husband, I never worried that he would do any of these things. Never for one single moment. And he never has. He had great character, and I could see that right in the beginning. Does that mean he was perfect? No, of course not. But if he ever did anything wrong, he was quick to own it; he was quick to apologize; and he was quick to show me that he didn’t want to do it again. He didn’t justify his behaviour, or try to blame it on someone else, or tell me that I was just misinterpreting the whole situation. And that’s the picture of a Christian: It isn’t someone who does absolutely everything right, but it’s someone who is honest about the state of their heart, and who is running after God and trying to look more and more like Jesus everyday. THE TRUTH THAT EVEN SOME EDUCATED NIGERIANS DON'T KNOW: - THE POLICE CANNOT DETAIN A PERSON WHILE STILL CARRYING OUT INVESTIGATION. (By Emeka Ugwuonye) This is the basic truth that even some Nigerian lawyers do not understand. The police can only detain a person for the purpose of arraigning him in court. The police station is not a destination. It is just a short way to the courts. Many times, I hear to my utter shock people say that the police detained a person while they conducted investigation. You cannot detain a person based on the fact that somebody petitioned against him. This is why the constitution said that the police cannot detain a person for more than 24 hours. It is for the court to control the detention of people, not the police. This may sound new to some of you, but there are more than 20 court cases, including those of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, which stated that the police cannot detain a person while still investigating a case or while still searching for evidence. Two days ago, in Benin City, the Inspector General of Police made the same argument while addressing police officers. He said: “I don’t expect most of you to bring people into our facility and detain them indefinitely while you are shopping for evidence. You must be able to have evidence before you bring them into our facility. You cannot abridge the fundamental rights of Nigerians; you cannot treat them as if they are people who have been conquered. You must respect these rights,”. But they do it all the time and many people think they are right. You hear even educated people tell you that the EFCC or the police are detaining this man while investigating the case. That is crazy. Now, let me share with you, particularly the lawyers, the following steps in dealing with lawful taking away of a person's liberty. STEP 1: ARREST: The first point when you lose your liberty is if you are arrested by an officer of the peace (police, efcc, etc). There is a legal standard that must be met in order for a person to be arrested. That standard is called reasonable suspicion or obtaining a warrant. If the court has issued a warrant for you to be arrested, the warrant is in itself the legal basis for your arrest. But in cases where warrants do not apply, the arresting officer must have a 'REASONABLE SUSPICION" that you committed a crime. This is a serious matter. It has to be a reasonable suspicion. It means that the police officer has reasonable basis or information to sustain the belief that you probably committed a crime. ("probably committed a crime", not "possibly committed a crime" ![]() STEP 2: INDICTMENT OR CHARGING YOU TO COURT: After you have been properly arrested, there is yet another decision that must be made in order for the case against you to go forward. That decision is that somebody will decide whether to charge you to court or not. To make this decision, someone would look at the evidence and the investigation done (before your arrest) and determine whether in his reasonable opinion there is sufficient evidence that would lead to conviction if tried in court. In other words, that person is looking for what we call prima facie case, i.e., whether "on the face of the evidence" (prima facie) there is a case against you. We call it "on the face of the evidence" because you have not yet presented any defenses you may have. So, prima facie case means whether there is evidence to convict if you were to admit all the allegations and discovered during investigation. If there is a prima facie case, they will file charges, (information or an indictment) against you. You are now going to the judge. Note that with the exception of the warrant issued by the judge, all decisions about arresting you and charging you are made by the executive arm of the government , i.e., the police or the Attorney General. STEP 3: TRIAL AND CONVICTION: After you have been charged to http://www.controversialada.com/2016/04/lawyers-corner-end-police-intimidation.html |
POLICE ARREST THIS MORNING; SOME LITTLE BREAKTHROUGH TO REPORT The Due Process Advocates (DPA) Barr. Emeka Ugwuonye; the man that makes the difference This morning, while still in bed, I received an inbox from a person who asked me to help because he had just been arrested by the police. He told me he was a DPA member. His message came by a message request because he is not my friend on FB. He said he was arrested in a place called Shitta. I had no idea where that was or even which State in Nigeria that was. So, I asked him for locational details. He said it was in Surulere area of Lagos. I asked him to try to find out the exact police station they were taking him to. He figured it was Area C. Police Station in Surulere. We began to track the incident. Apparently, the police were making random raids and stop-and-search. They would stop anybody they liked to stop, but instead of searching or asking questions, they would shove them into their vans. In the end, they arrested 14 people randomly on that spot. Beside inboxes, I called the DPA member on the phone number he provided to find out how he got there. He told me he was going to LUTH (the teaching hospital in the area) when he was stopped. On my own, I figured that this kind of random stop-and-search and arrest on Fridays are the usual police tactic for extorting money fromm people. Since it is a Saturday, they could keep these people in police cell till Monday and their parents would pay money for them to be released. That is some good money for the the DPO and his men for the weekend. The situation could get quite bad. If the families of the rest of the arrested people do not come to bail them, the police will transfer the people to SARS where they would he most likely killed extra-judicially. 10 Gut-Wrenching Stories Of African-American Women Who Were Lynched Lynching may well be the most morbid, inhumane, and disheartening form of vigilante justice. Typically, it involves a mob of people injuring or killing someone—usually by hanging—who is believed to have committed an offense. It doesn’t matter if the accused is innocent or guilty. Dating back to the US Civil War, American history has been stained by the blood of thousands of minorities who were lynched, especially in the South. Between the years of 1882 and 1968, there were about 4,700 documented lynchings, 3,400 of which were African-American men and women in Southern states like Mississippi, Georgia, Texas, and Louisiana. These states recorded the highest incidences of lynching. Eventually, lynchings grew into elaborate spectacles where body parts were passed around for souvenirs and smiling photos were taken with the victims’ lifeless bodies hanging in the background. Sadly, many of the victims were accused of minor infractions like theft. Others were injured or killed because they stood up for themselves. For African-American men, one of the most serious offenses was associating with or even just looking at a white woman. However, women were not exempt from lynchings. This list highlights a small number of the horrifying cases in which African-American women were lynched in America. 10-burning-barn_000013056008_Small In 1915, a barn was set ablaze in Mississippi. Gabe Frank, the white owner of the property, sent bloodhounds to find the culprit, but they were unable to pick up a scent. Relying on suspicion instead of evidence, the public pinned the arson on Cordella Stevenson’s son. Although she claimed that he had not been living at home for a number of months, there had to be a scapegoat. Her son was it. For six days, Cordella was questioned by police about her son’s involvement in the crime. When she was released, she and her husband, Arch, had no clue that their lives were about to be changed forever. At 10:00 PM on December 15, a group of men forced their way into the Stevensons’ home. With guns aimed at Arch’s head, the men dragged Cordella out of the house. At the earliest opportunity, Arch escaped, running into town to get the police. Then Arch left the area. He was neither seen nor heard from again. As for Cordella—who may have been sexually assaulted according to witnesses—her naked body was left hanging from a tree until she was cut down the following Friday. Her killers were never brought to justice. 9 Annie And Bertha Lowman 9-moonshine_000083721841_Small One of South Carolina’s most tragic cases of a family lynching occurred in April 1925. Bertha Lowman and her mother, Annie, were home on April 25 when they were visited by Sheriff H.H. Howard and four other officers from Aiken County. The men came to check for illegal whiskey. They were dressed in civilian clothes and did not produce any badges. When Annie suggested that Bertha go inside, the officers ran toward the women and a chase ensued. Then Sheriff Howard struck Bertha in the mouth with his gun. Annie picked up an ax and was ready to come to her daughter’s defense. But she was shot and killed by the other deputies before she could get to her daughter. After hearing Bertha’s scream, Demon and Clarence Lowman—Annie’s son and nephew, respectively—wielded guns as they came to the aid of their family members. After exchanging gunfire with the officers, Bertha was wounded and the sheriff was dead. Clarence, Bertha, and Demon were all charged and sentenced for the sheriff’s murder. Annie’s husband, Sam, was sent to a chain gang for allegedly possessing alcohol. The young men received death penalties, and Bertha was given a life sentence. On October 8, 1926, Sam was found not guilty after a retrial. But his children and nephew were not so lucky. They were all taken out of prison by a mob and shot and killed that same day. 8 Jennie Steer 8b-lemonade_000009971720_Small Jennie Steer, an African-American woman working as a servant in Shreveport, Louisiana, was fortunate to escape prosecution in the violent death of Mrs. Frank Matthews, her former employer’s wife. Mrs. Matthews’s son had believed that Jennie was guilty. Several months later, though, Jennie became entangled in a web from which she was unable to escape. In 1903, Elizabeth Dolan, the 10-year-old daughter of white planter John Dolan, died a painful death from poison that was unknowingly administered to her in a glass of lemonade. The fingers were pointed squarely at Jennie, so she ran away from the Dolan house. On July 25, the day of Elizabeth’s funeral, an enraged mob set out to find Jennie, who was hiding in a hayloft. She was forcibly taken to the Beard plantation and strung up on a tree. The mob demanded that Jennie confess to the murder, but she maintained her innocence until the end. After her death, some members of the mob fired shots at her lifeless body. 7 Marie Scott 7-lynching-noose_000029147728_Small As the saying goes, there are two sides to every story. This was certainly true in the case of 17-year-old Marie Scott, who was painted as both innocent and guilty of the murder of Lemuel Pearce. Newspaper accounts reported that Pearce, a deceased white male, had been in the “Negro part” of Wagoner, Oklahoma, in March 1914. As Pearce was leaving a house there, it is alleged that Marie attacked him with a knife, piercing his heart. According to another account, Marie inadvertently caught the attention of two white men passing by her window as she was combing her hair. The men entered the house, locked themselves in Marie’s room, and raped her. Marie’s brother came to her rescue with knife in hand. He stabbed and killed one of the men. When the ordeal was over, Marie’s brother fled and she was arrested instead. At 2:00 AM on March 31, Marie was taken out of the city jail by a large mob. With a rope around her neck, she was dragged to the corner of Main and First Streets where she was hanged. Marie’s killers were never prosecuted. 6 Mary Thompson 6-bloody-knife_000017706342_Small In Kentucky, Mary Thompson’s trouble began in June 1904 when her son returned a pair of pliers to a white man named John Irwin. After Irwin hit Mary’s son for taking the pliers, she set out to confront Irwin. One account suggests that Mary left with a knife in hand, while another states that she was attacked from behind by Irwin. Although the sequence of events may be hazy, the outcome was clear: The 102-kilogram (225 lb) Mary cut Irwin’s throat. Shortly afterward, she was hauled off to jail. When a mob of white men came for Mary the first time, she was defended by an equally aggressive group of African-American men carrying guns. Unfortunately, the mob came for Mary again. This time, they were successful. Mary continued to fight as she was strung up on a tree. Allegedly, she grabbed a knife from one of the men and cut herself free. But as she fell to her feet and tried to run, Mary was shot over 100 times by the mob. She died the following evening. I am a well meaning citizen and for such I will rather not write than write with biased mind. Can you journey with me as we unfold the TRUTH behind why Ex-president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. I guess you might have read about the $180m HALLIBURTON SCANDAL. It is becoming quiet interesting why America would all of a sudden stop importing fuel from Nigeria when Jonathan refused to drop the probing process of unveiling the looters of the above mentioned amount. Interestingly, report has it that prior to President Buhari's trip to U.S, the case came up again and he was warned not to thread the part the ex-president threaded if he wish to get U.S support, he needs to drop further inquiry as it regards the missing money. And did my Corruption fighter obliged? Let us find out why U.S all of a sudden decided to import oil again from Nigeria. When I mentioned earlier that Nigeria is still under colonialism, you intend to misunderstand. No country including America would invest in an economy as bad as Nigerian's if they have nothing under the carpet to protect. Oh, less i forget, HALLIBURTON is of the most influential oil servicing company owed by An American. Remember, America loves their name more than anything. Let me not bore you, just read some of the reports for yourself. $180m HALLIBURTON SCANDAL: Two ex-Heads of State battle Jonathan Following the directive by President Goodluck Jonathan that the investigative report into the $180 million Halliburton bribery scandal be re-opened and the major culprits re-arrested, Vanguard gathered that this has resulted in a fall out between two former heads of state and President Jonathan. The two former heads of state (names withheld) were said to have been found in the investigative report to have benefitted from the sharing of the Halliburton bribe money using fronts who have already confessed that they were only fronting for their principals. Incidentally, when the investigation team took off from Abuja sometime in 2010 and landed in Ibadan on their way to the home of one of the indicted persons, Bodunde Adeyanju, to recover documents relating to how the Halliburton bribe money was collected and disbursed, the team was sent back to Abuja from the Ibadan airport. Jonathan determined to prosecute suspect It was gathered that President Jonathan is determined to prosecute those found wanting in the bribery scandal to demonstrate not only to Nigerians who feel he is a toothless bulldog when it comes to fighting corruption, but also to show the international community that corrupt people, no matter their status in the society, can be brought to book in Nigeria. And as part of this determination, it was gathered that an approval has been secured by the five-man inter-agency panel headed by the Inspector General of Police, including EFCC, SSS, and ICPC, to travel to France, United Kingdom, Switzerland and Spain to confirm the foreign leg of the investigations which mostly involves wiring of the funds, the amounts and the account holders. There are concerns more than a thousand women have been subjected to a practice known as "breast ironing" in Britain. The ritual, which was originally carried out in parts of Africa, involves young girls having their breasts beaten, burnt and massaged in order to stop them developing. The aim is to make women less attractive to the opposite sex so that they focus on school work. It is almost always carried out by a girl's mother, in the privacy of their own home. One woman, who we have called Lara, told Sky News she was subjected to mutilation when she reached adolescence. She said: "They put the spatula on the fire and then they press it on the breast and yes, it hurts. "Then it goes weak, it's like melting, fat melting and you can feel the breast going back… one of my breasts is bigger than the other one." It is thought as many as a thousand girls may have suffered this violent mutilation while living in Britain. A Freedom of Information request by the Conservative MP Jake Berry found almost a quarter of children's services are not trained to deal with the practice, whilst 15% of police forces were unaware it even existed. Breast ironing is a secretive and brutal form of mutilation. Heated objects are used to burn children's breasts. Many then have bands tied tightly around their chests. Experts believe the ritual can cause cysts, abscesses, even breast cancer. Geraldine Yenwo, the founder of Came Women and Girls Development Organisation, told Sky News: "A lot of them have inverted nipples, they're not able to breast feed their children. "Emotionally and psychologically, your self-esteem is very badly affected. Physically, some of them have one large and one flattened breast." Mr Berry is calling on the Government to make breast ironing a criminal offence. As yet, not a single person in the UK has been convicted of the crime. In recent years there has been a lot of awareness raised about female genital mutilation. However, campaigners insist there also needs to be focus on breast ironing, before it becomes a more widespread problem. ALTERNATIVE TO GENITAL MUTILATION EMERGES FOR KENYA'S MAASAI GIRLS SHUN GENITAL MUTILATION FOR OUR GIRLS maasai 6 In a remote, deeply traditional corner of southern Kenya, thousands of young Maasai girls wearing black and white robes and with blood sprinkled on their foreheads dance in the light of dawn. Loudly, enthusiastically, they sing traditional songs with the support of a choir and gifted drummers. In the town of Entasopia, the girls are undergoing a rite of passage that resembles the tribe’s customary coming-of-age ceremony—but without the usual horror of genital mutilation. “I am very happy because I will not be married off at this age,” says 12-year-old Joan Siyuama as she drinks raw blood from a slaughtered bull to signify her ascendance to adulthood after participating in the ceremony. “I will now go to school and achieve my dream of becoming a doctor.” Siyuama is among many Maasai girls who are bucking a tradition that has disfigured millions of their ancestors. For the Maasai community, traditional culture permeates every aspect of daily life. Until recently, that culture dictated that elders must remove a girl’s labia and much of her clitoris before she could marry. But with the help of a generation of activists campaigning against female genital mutilation and early forced marriages, traditional African communities like this one have accepted an alternative ceremony. As a result, fewer girls are being married off as teenagers, and more are going to school. “In the Maasai community, we have no female doctors, teachers, journalists or any other position in the government because of this practice,” says Ole Lelein Kanunga, a Maasai man leading the campaign against female genital mutilation. “But since 2013, we said there will be no such practice in this community of Maasai.” Elder works to spare girls Thirteen years ago, Maasai elders appointed Kanunga as the chief moran , or warrior, in Entasopia, a lush oasis of trees and pasture in the otherwise desert flats of southern Kenya. He’s now in charge of 750 men between the ages of 14 and 30. Since he received training in 2013 from a nongovernmental organization about female genital mutilation’s dangers, he has held meetings with men and women to educate them about these risks, including diseases, psychological trauma and complications during childbirth. “I used to attend several ceremonies where young girls would undergo the cut,” he says. “But one day when I visited a ceremony, the circumciser did it wrong, and one of the girls began to cry as she bled profusely. It hit me. I needed to act and stop this.” maasai1 Kenyan girls and women in the Maasai and Samburu communities show their support for ending female genital mutilation.SAMUEL SIRIRIA LEADISM Kanunga says his and his warriors’ efforts have helped more than 10,000 girls avoid undergoing the procedure since 2013. It wasn’t easy. Kanunga had to confront other leaders who didn’t share his perspective. “It was very hard for me to speak about it, even after being taught the effects of the female genital mutilation,” he says. “When I stood up to oppose female genital mutilation, people were shocked. They questioned why the defender of our...http://www.controversialada.com/2016/04/alternative-to-genital-mutilation.html what do you think about this old Tradition?
