EFCC traces 29 Dubai houses to ex-governor The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has traced 29 choice property in the United Arab Emirate (UAE) to a former governor, it has been gathered. Highly placed sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said each of the assets located in highbrow areas of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the capital of UAE, cost about $2 million. It was further learnt that in order to shroud the ownership of the acquisitions in secrecy, the ex-governor used some offshore companies as fronts, to ward off suspicion. Consequently, the Nigerian government has written the UAE, seeking cooperation, to attach and freeze the houses, which it believes, were bought from proceeds of crime. Investigation also revealed that the mind-boggling discovery was made by the Foreign Desk of the Commission, which is said to comprise internal operatives, personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS), International Police Organisation (INTERPOL), as well as the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).... Tension as herdsmen plot invasion of Enugu community Confusion has enveloped Ukpabi Nimbo community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, Enugu State, following an alleged attempt by Fulani herdsmen to invade the community and displace residents for cattle-grazing. About 500 Fulani herdsmen were allegedly assembling at Ukpabi Nimbo community in the area to launch an attack. It was gathered that the herdsmen at Adani had, weekend, imported these 500 others from Nasarawa State to help them invade the community on grounds that some of their cattle were missing. However, stakeholders from the local government met, weekend, to find solutions to the incessant attacks by herdsmen on communities in the local government, leading to the kidnap of over 15 persons and raping of several women from the area along the Nsukka-Adani-Umulokpa road in the last six months. Those kidnapped allegedly paid ransoms ranging from N500,000 to about N5 million before they regained their freedom. According to sources, Chairman, Transition Committee, Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, Cornell Onwubuya, reportedly alerted Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and the state Commissioner of Police, Ekechukwu on the development. He was said to have further alerted the leaders of the Fulani community in Enugu State, who met with stakeholders from Uzo-Uwani to address the issue. Emergency meeting Speaking at the emergency meeting in Enugu, Onwubuya said the meeting was convened to address the allegation that herdsmen planned to import about 500 of their tribesmen to enable them invade some communities in the area. He noted that local leaders of the Fulani community also confirmed that there were attempts to bring in mercenaries for the attack on the communities, adding that the Fulani leaders in Enugu had complained that some of their people were killed within the axis of Ukpabi Nimbo and Abbi communities in the recent past. Rape: Osun monarch bags 7 years imprisonment Osun State High Court has sentenced a monarch in Osun State, The Loja of Araromi Otokobo town in Ilesa, Moses Adeniyi to seven years imprisonment for rapping two teenagers who were students of St. Margaret School, Ilesa. After thorough prosecution by the state Ministry of Justice, the Ilesa Division of Osun State High court found the 70-year-old monarch guilty of the offence levelled against him. The traditional ruler was arraigned in court on 28 of March 2011 on two charges of rape and indecent assault. The matter had since dragged on, until Thursday that the final judgement was delivered. The prosecuting counsel from Osun Ministry of Justice, Mr Tijani Adekilekun proved to the court that the accused committed offences, contrary to and punishable under Section 358 and 360 of Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol.11, Laws of Osun State. The presiding judge, Justice Kudirat Akano in her judgement expressed disappointment in the accused and sentenced him to seven years imprisonment at Ilesa maximum prison without option of fine. The prosecutor told the court that sometime in May 2010; the accused threatened the girls with charms, forcefully deflowered the two girls, raped them together in a room and warned them not to inform anyone or else they would die. According to the fact of the case, the accused gave the girls a ride in his car when they were returning from school. One of the girls was 13-years-old then while the other was 14-years-old. Instead of dropping the girls at their house, he tricked them and took them to a hotel where he deflowered them. The accused was said to have used a white handkerchief to wipe the blood from the vagina the girls when he deflowered them and warned them not to disclose to their parents. The mother of one of the girls eventual suspected that her daughter was no longer a virgin and queried the girl to reveal the person that deflowered her. After a lot of persuasion, the girl told her mother that she could not mention the person because she does not want to die. The mother took the matter to the school and the teachers assisted the woman to assure the girl that she would not die if she revealed the person that deflowered her. The girl eventually narrated what the accused did to her and her friend. Source: http://www.controversialada.com/2016/04/ilesa-king-sentenced-to-7-years.html |

I’ve suffered enough in PDP — Yuguda The immediate past Governor of Bauchi State, Isa Yuguda, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party. Yuguda, who was also Minister of Aviation under the Olusegun Obasanjo administration, had begun contesting the Bauchi governorship on the platform of the PDP before defecting to the now defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party. He won the 2007 election while in the ANPP and defected back to the PDP on April 14. Yuguda, speaking in a telephone conference with journalists on Saturday, said he was leaving the PDP for personal reasons and because, according to him, the party lacked the capacity to bring to Nigerians the development they deserve. The ex-governor claimed that remaining in the party would be unfair to himself and his supporters, adding that what was being done in the party was contrary to the doctrine of his Islamic religion. He said, “As of today, I have resigned my membership of the PDP because of personal reasons. I have had enough troubles in the party. “The PDP is no longer the party that can give Nigerians the kind of future they are looking for. I have given serious thought to what has been happening in the party, what has happened to me and what has happened also to our country at large and I feel it will only be wise for me to quit the party. “Looking back at what happened in the country under the PDP, if I continue staying in the party, I will not be fair not only to myself but to my teeming Bauchi supporters, who gave me the mandate to serve them for eight years as governor.” Yuguda, who refused to tell journalists where he was speaking from, denied joining the ruling All Progressive Congress or resigning totally from politics. He said he was going to rest from politics for a year or some months before making any move after wide consultations, adding that it was necessary for him to rest having served his fatherland for 35 years. “I am praying for God to help President Muhammadu Buhari fix Nigeria,” he added. The President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki has, for the first time, opened up on the intrigues of his ongoing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal over asset declaration issues and the role of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying that his refusal to support a Muslim/Muslim ticket for the APC in the 2015 presidential election is largely responsible for his ordeal. I have every reason to expect not to be persecuted by the party I contributed so much to build The President of the Senate, Dr. Saraki who wrote a reply to an earlier article published last Saturday by Dele Momodu in his Pendulum column said the position he took on the running mate issue was his “original sin” and those whose ambition were truncated by the position had been doing everything possible to frustrate him. He said: “I have also been accused of helping to frustrate some people’s opportunity to emerge as President Muhammadu Buhari’s running mate. But I have no problem with anybody. My concern was that it would not be politically smart of us to run with a Muslim-Muslim ticket. I doubt if we would have won the election if we had done this, especially after the PDP had successfully framed us a Muslim party. I felt we were no longer in 1993. Perhaps, more than ever before, Nigerians are more sensitive to issues of religious balancing. This was my original sin. “What they say to themselves, among other things, was that ‘if he could conspire against our ambition, then he must not realise his own ambition as well.’ For me however, I have no regrets about this. I only stood for what I believed was in the best interest of the party and in the best interest of Nigeria. We have got to that point in our country when we no longer believe that anyone could stand for anything based on principles and convictions alone. Moreover, in the growing culture of media crucifixion and presumed guilt; it is rare to find a voice like yours that calls for fairness and justice.” Saraki also chided his party for the...http://www.controversialada.com/2016/04/saraki-i-was-framed-because-i-spoke.html |
