You're saying Spurs are paying more than the asking price/release clause? Is it Christmas already?
yes they have. . . . .to strengthen their hands. . . .mata prefers arsenal. . . .an extra million pounds will force valencia's hands to trade off to the highest bidder.

The papers are suggesting Wenger has made a bid(i'm not convinced). Why should he bid for a player he doesn't need when there's still a good chance Cesc will stay?
he hasn't made one. wenger said mata is a player he likes but that doesn't mean he will buy him!

They don't play the same position.
mata can play on the left wing and also play as a midfielder.
modric can play on the left wing and also play as a midfielder.

eldee:
Lool . . . Dudu and Coogar and their weird talk. grin grin
unlike dudu, i am knowledgeable and i back my comments with facts.

Tottenham Hotspur last night sought to beat Arsenal to the signing of the Valencia forward Juan Mata by tabling a bid worth close to €25m (£22m). Arsenal, whose manager, Arsène Wenger, admitted that Mata is a player he likes, remain the favourites to sign the 23-year-old but are yet to make a formal bid. Initial talks have suggested that Arsenal would offer less than Spurs, at least to begin with.

Mata's preference is to join Arsenal but, with Harry Redknapp making little secret of his pursuit of attacking players over the past six months, Spurs are seeking to force Valencia's hand and bring pressure to bear on the player. Mata's camp, though, is awaiting definitive movement from Arsenal. That may yet depend on the departure of Cesc Fábregas. Sources at Barcelona said they are cautiously optimistic about signing the midfielder – and that it was him or no one.

Mata, whose contract allows him to depart Valencia for €21m before 1 August, is open to a move to the Premier League.
He already speaks a little English. Valencia, too, are keen to sell, with the sporting director, Braulio Vázquez, admitting: "We are ready if [Mata] does depart." The Spanish club's huge debt requires the annual sale of key players and Mata looks set to follow the footsteps of David Villa and David Silva to the exit.

According to an agreement reached when Mata last renewed his contract, Valencia are obliged to sell to a foreign club that matches the £21m bar before Monday. Spurs have made an offer that exceeds that minimum fee in order to strengthen their hand.
any other query about the weirdness of my comments?

Wenger isn't "messing about", at the moment Arsenal don't need Mata.
tottenham have tabled their bid. . . .valencia is obliged to sell to whoever pays £21m by august 1. . . .spurs have tabled £22m.
wenger is yet to even make his bid. he's waiting for cesc to decide where he wants to go or waiting for barcelona to increase their offer.

I'm trying to figure out where Mata would even fit at Spurs. Bale to left-back? VDV wide? Perhaps he'd play on the right.
mata is replacing modric. if spurs buy mata, modric will certainly leave spurs for chelsea or united.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread (for Arsenal Fans) by coogar: 10:54am On Jul 30, 2011
harry redknapp is about to snap mata from valencia whilst wenger is still messing about.
if harry gets mata @£22m, modric will likely move to chelsea for £35m.

£13m profit for harry without moving his arse. . . .smart dude!

LOL . . . . I have to laugh at that.
Well, England has been routinely conquered, by men like Cantona, Van Nistelrooy . . . even a certain Didier Drogba. Not exactly the optimus prime of modern football they were. But they still conquered England. Even Fernando Torres, Yaya Toure, and lately David Silva have been busy conquering England grin
which of these players scored 42 goals in a season he won the league/champions league at the same time?
which of these players won back to back player of the season. . .
which of these players won the young player award/best player award in the same season?

that is conquering. . . .

The English game, the English game.

Messi does not need to play in England. In fact, coogar, for your information, none of the greatest players in world football have ever played in England.
That doesn't seem to look like it'll change any time soon. After all Cristiano Ronaldo has left England!
but cristiano conquered england before he left it. . . . .
and the other great players played elsewhere in another team and won!

the fact is. . . . .remove xavi and iniesta in messi's team and messi's ability reduces from a superman to solomon kalou.
no one has been able to prove this fact wrong.

over to you. . . . .

Abeg,

coogar and friends . . . please make sure you award all the trophies in your various wardrobes to Cristiano Ronaldo.
UEFA and FIFA awards are reserved for Lionel Messi, as you all know.

I'm sure in September everybody will be back here to complain and abuse FIFA, UEFA, UNICEF, the French Foreign Legion, David Cameron, the EU, and whoever. No qualms sha grin
no one is disputing that - but can messi do it on a cold rainy tuesday @ stoke? when this question about messi was posed to wayne rooney. . .
rooney said. . .
'If you bring Xavi and Iniesta with him, yes. But it would be difficult, almost impossible for him to play as he does in Spain.
'The game is more physical here, going to the likes of Birmingham and Stoke away is very demanding. Cristiano Ronaldo is more suited to the English game than Messi. Cristiano is taller and good in the air.

And at 33, there's obviously something really wrong to have him as the soul Chelsea.
No one plays like him, if we only score goals when he is fit, then there's a fundamental problem.
And guess what? I do not want my team to play like that.
how old was scholes before he retired? giggs? does it matter what age or what these kingpins deliver in their respective clubs?
should drogba be kicked off as well?

"Oh Sorry guys, we didn't even bother to turn up to play, we can't score goals. . . . Lamps caught a cold".
lampard's stat speaks for itself wink

Name me one top team in europe plagued by such imbalance.
WE have to find a way round it eventually and must still aspire to be successful. Are we going to get relegated because Lamps chose to retire? Therefore, the earlier we embrace it, the better. If he is there, bonus. If not, we score goals still.
relegation? stop exaggerating. . . . .lampard didn't really feature last season - what did chelsea achieve in his absence?

That's doesn't explain how cash is tight. Chelsea have tabled a 42m-euro bid for Pastore, 27m-pound bid for Modric, 5m for Romeu, 8m for Thibault and reportedly 18m for Lukaku. All on the back of a 75m spending spree only 6months ago. . . What do you expect us to do when cash is not tight? Please speak of what you know.
media speculation. . . . . .there's no official bid at all apart from modric and redknapp has told chelsea he won't even sell luka @ £35m.

United won the league because because Chelsea slipped from 11 pts ahead to 15 points behind.
That's 26pts. A team at the bottom of the PL would have been confirmed relegated in January with that form.
so all those needless away draws united were copping in the early parts of last season shouldn't be counted, abi? na only chelsea slipped from 11pts ahead to 15 points behind. . . . .this analysis is watery. . . . .

A fit Utd and a fit Chelsea, Utd cannot pip Chelsea to the title. Chelsea has by far the best midfield in the PL.
4 titles in the last 5 seasons and 3 european finals in the last 4 seasons prove you are talking nonsense. . . . .one would think chelsea were not in the same league in the last 5 seasons when united have handed their asses to them. the only league victory you managed to achieve was by a solitary point and it went down to the last day - also aided by a visually-impaired line assistant that gifted drogba an offside goal.

a weak united side will beat the strongest chelsea side to a title. the difference is sir alex ferguson. forget whose midfield is the best.

What do you mean if it ain't broke don't fix it? Let's bring back Carllotti then. If AVB decides to play Lamps every minute of the season, I will respect his decision. If chooses otherwise, I will be jumping for joy
lampard is the soul of chelsea. . . .if he's fit, chelsea score goals.

cash is tight. . . .
I dunno what that means, you know something I don't?
it simply means chelsea cannot boss the transfer market like before. you have new kids on the block now. . . .man city, psg and malaga.

Exactly and that's why they were leaps and bounds ahead of Barca as well. Crap. Why is Fergie after Sneijder?
no team will be as good as barca even if you put 50 pastores and 40 lampards in the midfield.
united won the toughest league in the world with the poorest midfielders in the top six. . . .united don't need a superb midfielder to win the english league. . . . .nani/giggs/valencia/park will work out the creativity.

the reason fergie is after sneijder is to close the gap on barcelona in europe. . . .not in the league.

No fan has discussed wage structure more than me here.
Pastore cannot have a dent on Chelsea's wage structure.
Pastore's reported earning are in the region of 30,000 - 40,000. What's got to happen upset Terry?
you think he will take that crap at chelsea. . . . .when mediocres like mikel are on £80k upwards?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread:Home Of The Blues!!!! by coogar: 11:24pm On Jul 29, 2011

My points are:
1. We have to move away from a Lampard-centric Chelsea.
if it ain't broke - don't fix it. . . .you have to be a lampard-centric chelsea until fat frank retires. . .if he was fit last season, the title race might have panned out differently.

2. Pastore is a massive player. He has the abilities to add a lot more to Chelsea. If he comes at top dollar, there ain't sh.it we can do about it.
cash is tight. . . .

3. There is nothing to suggest all those players Ibime is suggesting will excel in the PL. Why have we not seen Utd all over them.
because fergie has given up trying to create from the middle. . . .united's creativity are on the wings - something chelsea lack in leaps n bounds.

4. The fact that we want to spend a lot on a player doesn't mean we don't know when to get value. We got Romeu for 5m, if he will turn out good, time will tell.
the time of senseless spending has passed. torres' signing is still an embarrassment to chelsea fc. . . .getting another high risk player at top dollar will unsettle dust at stamford bridge. you gotta look at the wage structure as well. will drogba be happy? terry? lampard? ashley cole?

I'm sorry mate but if you think I am creaming myself over Pastore then you need to read my posts again.
I set-up a midfield based on what is happening in the transfer market. Chelsea is negotiating over the transfer Pastore and Modric whether we fancy it or not. The sooner you embrace that the better.

No be you talk say how many of the quick players can score 10 goals a season? So bloody damn what if Lampard can still do that at 35, you always act like those who don't have 20 goals a season mid-fielders don't win trophies. Pastore is 22 and there's nothing to suggest he cannot go on and top his own records.

Like we've argued tirelessly on this forum, mid-fielders' primary responsibility is not to score goals. If you get one, it's a bonus. I wonder why every mid-fielder we get linked with must be compared with Lampard.

You have a penchant for thinking players you love "will" do well in the prem however on the closer look, it's bollocks. Only Nuri Sahin I believe of all those you have listed can make a difference. Valero is 26, Cabaye is 25 and has scored only 31 goals in 7 seasons, Vidal is a DM (and I love him) but them all cannot hold a candle to Pastore. You act like there is a direct relationship between cheap players and top performances.

I am not in support of buying Pastore for 50m but sorry, Roman has set a precedence. When Chelsea is in for a player, the player's stock rises. We will never break that cycle until we produce our own player or buy a player for cheap who goes on to become a superstar. That said, Pastore is a massive player please expensive or not.

AVB obviously does not see Gervinho as a fit to the team. Plus what do you want us to do during the ACN when Mikel, Essien, Drogba, Kalou and then Gervinho leave? You thought of that?

We signed Oriol Romeu for peanuts and dude may become gold in the future. However that should not stop us from splashing if we have to. Our biggest players in the last 10 years have been the ones we paid good money for. Lamps, Drogba, Essien, Carvalho.
so mr. nateevs, what's your point?

Seriously though, I personally feel that the wages of the biggest stars should be negotiated on a 'take home pay' basis. I wouldn't fancy getting a wage cut simply for moving to another country and footballers aren't any different in that sense.
how do you mean? footballers' wages are affected because nearly all of them are high earners. if you make more than £150k per year, you get taxed 50%. anything less than that and you are like others with 40% tax.
