Wesley? cheesy

I remember he played in the WC finals where Cesc was setting up the winning goal. We know who schooled who down in SA. grin
well. . . . .that was because cesc had a brilliant iniesta as a team-mate and not a fool like arjen robben(who was gifted a chance of a lifetime to be a scorer in the final of a world cup) but fluffed his lines.

the pass sneijder telepathically fed robben was the pass of the world cup - the pass split puyol and pique into two and sent robben through one on one with casillas and the bald one couldn't bury it(carlos vela would have finished with aplomb).

when sneijder had brilliant team-mates like etoo, milito - he ran cesc's superiors(xavi, iniesta and busquets) ragged. sneijder singlehandedly mauled the brazilian midfield of gilberto silva and melo in south africa. sneijder pissed on chelsea's midfield of lampard, mikel, ballack, zhirkov.

sneijder is a beast!

According to cats like Proudly, Arsene pays average players too much already, and they are still not performing. cheesy
and why are there so many average players in arsenal? in 99(just after france were dominating world football), arsenal had vieira, petit, henry, pires, wiltord, etc. this will be the equivalent of having xavi, iniesta, david villa, torres, jesus navas, etc. how did the table turn?

You can't spend all your income on transfers - there are running costs, wages of the board, etc to look after, not to mention repayment of £20m annually on the main Stadium debt.
unfortunately, you have to spend most of your income on transfers unless your name is sir alex ferguson.
the club must weigh it's priorities. do we want trophies or do we want to be a healthy club(no trophies and £200 billion income in our kitty).

This presupposes that Wenger makes the financial decisions - as far as I'm aware, he makes footballing decisions within a fixed budget, with minimal board involvement. The budget however, is not determined by Wenger.
not true.
wenger is the alpha & omega of the arsenal board. he decides who to buy, who to go after and the amount of money to be spent every transfer window.

The money isn't there as implied - the 'money' came from selling good players, and that affects your ability to compete. The 'profits' mentioned in those two years were one-offs, associated with massive player sales and property sales. The money went to repay loans and offer wage increases and a few purchases, but not on the scale required.
the money is there. danny fiszmann revealed this before he passed away.
i am now sure wenger and the board share the loot with the everlasting promise of "we shall deliver next season"

The recent financial accounts showing a small loss are a better representation of where Arsenal would be without selling players or flats. grin
What we need is improved financial income to generate an extra £20-30m a year which can then be spent on transfers.
extra £20-30m a year again? you are a wetdreamer!

Secondly, your argument on the extra £20m in wages is quite foolish to say the least. Will paying the same players bigger wages make them win the EPL? Clearly not - what is required is purchase of the best players that command the big wages.
it's called motivation. it's either you buy best players/big wages or you pay average players huge wages.
wenger is the manager, he should know better.

In essence, you're not only talking about adding £20m onto the wage bill, you're ALSO talking about making big money purchases on a regular basis, such as the £30m Fergie spent on Nani and Ando and the likes.
which your income pretty much covers.
you make £100m at the gates every season don't you?

Furthermore - while Arsenal made a 'profit' in those years, a large proportion of that cash went to repaying loans that were owed to the bank, so they were not necessarily available for transfers AND wages.
which begs the question? why?
is there a sledgehammer waiting to hit on wenger's forehead if these loans are not paid?
can't he refinance the loan in such a way he pays far less monthly/annually?

Now I am not saying that Arsenal can't win anything till it spends like Utd, but to compete at the very highest level, it must begin to gain parity in the number of star performers on its books - whether they are bought or groomed.
which begs the question - why has wenger refused to sign star performers? money is no object. wenger makes money
deloitte has proven it, the income at the gate has proven it. last saturday the commentators said there are 40,000 on the queue for the season ticket. so where is the money?

No wonder Wenger said that you shouldn’t listen to people who haven’t even spent half a day in football. grin
you have sunk to the depths of blowing wenger's backside again.
wenger's policy should be questioned. what do you fans actually want?
money in the bank or trophies on the shelves or a bit of both? undecided

the evidence suggests that arsene wenger continues to add value. arsenal's wage bill was the fifth highest in the country at £111m, more than £20m a year less than citeh and man utd. last season, arsenal came third, and last year they were fourth.

fans would say actually winning a trophy should count for something. and on that basis, given that arsenal has not won the league since 2003/4, you have to argue that wenger's productivity is fatuous.
in fact, if you combine spending per unit of output with success in winning trophies, there is no doubt that alex ferguson is incomparably the most successful manager in the united kingdom. man utd's wage bill per premier league point is £1.6m, just a fraction more than arsenal's £1.5m.

the fact is: for the extra £100,000 per point, man utd were 2nd in 2009/10 and champions in 2010/11.
to be clear, arsenal and wenger cannot argue that they could not afford to spend the extra £20m shelled out by man utd on wages, at least not on deloitte's report. because deloitte shows that arsenal were the only club in 2008/9 and 2009/10 to make substantial pre-tax profits, of £46m and £56m respectively. no other club came within £40m of that profit.

it is therefore a factual statement that arsenal's cherished strategy of running its business on a financially sustainable basis is less in the interest of its supporters than its board may believe. if arsenal's wage bill had been £20m higher (that is the same as man utd's), its profits £20m lower, and the club had actually won something, i doubt many gaynners would have complained or would you?

@ freeindeed,

your comment is filled with complex contradictions you cannot even begin to understand

your first line went about comparing eating from the tithe in the old convenant to the modern day era. that is - things should be done the way they were practised in the mosaic days in the modern day. only for you to then say the old convenant has been abolished and the new testament should be the one practised.

my problem with comments like yours is - people now choose which of the commandments to follow randomly to suit their selfish interests. who decides when to follow the old laws or the new laws? this argument is tedious. tithing is what i love doing - and i will continue to do it no matter what people like you come online to spew.

what have i got to lose if i tithe? nothing. i priortize it. i don't smoke and i don't gamble.
for some people it's vice versa - they don't tithe but they spend the money on other stuffs.
at the end of the day, it bores down to the individual. like i keep saying, you can keep your tithe but do not discourage the christians who tithe with your heap of heresy.

Hardly anybody who has successfully gone through a thorough graduate program in a real university will make such an asinine claim that ‘only Nigerians complain about tithes (on the ground that the pastors misuse the money). Because such graduate or even student would know that (1) he cannot prove the assertion, having not been to all the countries in the world nor in possession of any decent study that says the same, and (2) the claim can easily be disproven, even by pointing to just one country that shows the contrary.
yet more fuckery for a supposed intellectual.

i have asked you more than 5 times to show me where americans have accused a pastor(without proof) of stealing funds and you have been speaking in tongues since then bed hopping from one spineless comment to another.
did you pass out from any citadel of learning at all?

To disprove it, here it is – this time read s-l-o-w-l-y:

1) In the US, vast majority of Christians do not pay tithes.
2) One can assume that they do not pay because they have one complaint or another about tithing. But we need not rely on assumption. We have the evidence published on the internet, at least.
3) Some of these complaints relate to how pastors use (or misuse) the money. For a sample, see a book published recently on that: “What Your Pastor Didn’t Tell You About The Prosperity Message” by Leah L. Davis, available here - http://leahldavis.com/main/

you are a cretin of diverse proportions.
the poor in america is like a middle-class in nigeria but he's still poor in america where he's expected to pay the tithes.
if he was paying his tithe in nigeria, then you have a point but he's tithing in america(where he sees himself as a poor person)

Oh, btw, your claim is false again. There are many poor people in America that are poorer than the poor in Nigeria. Saying that the poor in America is almost equivalent to the middle class in Nigeria is complete rubbish. And persuades me that you cannot even find the US on a map, much less getting a visa to visit.
yet more asinine comments from a vermin.
of course, the average american live on $1per day like nigerians. 200 people share one flat like they do in lagos.
their buses are packed. 49 sitting, 99 standing. america is ruined with famine, drought, malaria, hiv, etc like nigeria.
your moral and intellectual compass is so screwed up i doubt you can find your way to your study room - bloody irritant!

you were still a spermatozoon when i started visiting the states.

And my earlier question remains: how many countries have you visited (to know that it's only in Nigeria that people complain about tithing . . . .)?
of course, i have to visit every country to know the time difference is not the same. i have to visit every country to know different countries have their own currency, etc.
and yet when they ask graduates to raise their hands up in the society - you will raise your hands up not knowing you are a quarter-baked graduate whose intelligence quotient is lower than your shoe size in inches.

Ibime:
The only problem with Wenger's philosophy is in applying the philosophy to the defence, buying non-physiacl "ball-playing defenders" and looking to "groom" defenders just like he does midfielders. I continue to insist that Wenger can do himself a favour by buying cheap but battle-tested defenders. I cannot see past a ninja like Carlos Cuellar as a perfect signing for Arsenal - a player who fits Wenger's transfer and wages profile, but one who is extremely battle tested. Wenger should also look at Ninjas like Dedryck Boyata, a player who fits Wengers age profile but with immense physicality. Our Nigerian brother Nedum Onuoha is also someone who has no-nonsense defending style. His passing is atrocious, but then again Sol Campbell was one of the worst passers in the Prem, and Chris Smalling's atrocious passing hasn't hurt United yet.
wenger only signs specialists. all wenger's players must be highly technical. excellent ball control, comfortable in possession, good eye for the pass, etc.
these qualities weigh more on wenger's mind than the physicality. wenger will not buy players who are not comfortable in possession or whose ball skills are non-existent.

where is your proof? any criminal charges levelled against him?

Enigma:
Now you are making things up and suggesting that people should disobey a specific command of GOD HIMSELF; go back and read the passage and see how important it was to God that the tither should eat the tithe.
i read the passage and i think you are the one making things up to satisfy the lusts of your argument. you people love to twist it the way you want anyways - i am not surprised.

God did not send anybody to build any "edifice" for Him; in fact He said He does not dwell in "edifices" made by human hands. Where God wants to dwell is in a man's heart and the man in whose heart and mind god dwells will realise eventually that God does not ask him to "tithe" anywhere in the New Testament.
yes, pastor chris can shepherd his sheep on the streets. . . .no cover from adverse weather, no organization at all. he can just call his congregation, and they block up a street and worship. sometimes i question the intelligence of some of the christians i debate with these days. how can you liken the old testament to now when more than 2000 yrs have passed. in these days where space is a key - these days where you cannot infringe on the rights of others - you want a pastor not to build edifice and shepherd sheep on the streets like a bunch of lunatics?

wow - you have it all figured out, don't you? keep on with it - you will win a nobel prize by the end of the year at this pace of yours.
don't give up. cheesy

As for people acting in a serving role, if God dwells in their heart, they will serve joyfully especially if it is an atmosphere where everyone else, especially the "pastor", is by and large true to God and are not deceivers.
please be realistic. you cannot expect every member of the church to be working full-time in the church. life on the outside must go on. people have their needs, their family to feed. in such situations, won't the church committee hire professionals to carry the tasks needed out? where will this money come from if not the tithes people have contributed. . . . .

Ask yourself who Jesus was talking to; check if you have ever read Matthew 23:23 (and its Luke equivalent) in proper context
hypocrites like yourself, of course.

We have no objection to a person choosing to tithe; what we object to are false teachers and ignoramuses misleading other people into a bondage from which Christ and His gospel has freed them ----- all simply to satisfy material desires and aspirations.
misleading? are people held at gun-points/knife-points to contribute tithes? has nigeria gotten so bad to that extent?
if you don't have tithes to pay - do the church refuse entry? stop you from sitting down? deny you the rights enjoyed by tithe payers?
mr enigma, you have got issues!

the hypocrisy becomes more glaring when men of your ilk go to whorehouses and there's no hesitation when you fork out $300 in one night. cheesy

Of course, you can't! OK here is the breakdown:

- God said the tither himself should eat the tithe.
- Alternatively, God also said the tither himself should spend "tithe" money on whatsoever his heart pleased.

But here you say that tithes are only for the "church"; so who do you want us to believe: God or you?
but the tither already eats from the tithe in the modern era. when the tithes are collected to build huge edifices with the modern hi-tech gadgets, do you not benefit from those as a member of the congregation? buses to travel from point a to b. an enabling atmosphere to pray, adequate security of lives and properties, alternate power when nepa/phcn strike, etc. are those not the things the tithes have done that every member of the congregation enjoys? who do you think pay for the renting of the venue of the church, the plastic chairs, the people who fix the place every service? where do you think those people are paid from? the pastor's inheritance from his dad or from the federal ministry of works and housing?

Enigma:
In other words: "tithing" has been "disannulled" (abolished) along with the Levitical priesthood on which it was based: both have been replaced by the bringing in of a better hope (which makes things perfect) and by which we draw nigh unto God.
white elephant lie. matthew 23:23 says you are lying.

see, i don't have any problem if you decide not to tithe(it's your prerogative). . . . .but don't discourage the people who tithe with your heresy.

Well, let me show you what the Bible says: I will use an old post of mine for the purpose; (in fact, let me also tell you now that none of your arguments is new; we have exposed them all to be false before and we have been doing so since 2005)

I will use that my post from the following link just exactly as I first wrote it: from here https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-685535.0.html#msg8497302

If there are three types of "tithes", and one of them is below

Deuteronomy 14
then, when last did any tithe preacher preach that as it is important to learn to revere the Lord your God always, every month you must take a tithe of your income and throw a party and jollify yourself with it. Oh, and you should do this in church every month! Why? If storehouse now equals "church" what about "the place where God chooses as a dwelling for his name"? That has to be the church too kẹ! Therefore, every month "tithers" should throw a "tithe party" in church and jollify themselves with a "tithe" in addition to paying the Malachi "tithe" into church.

Meanwhile, give me a bit of time to work out how we sort out the third "tithe", you know the one --- that one for widows, orphans etc. Come to think of it, I don't recall any "tithe" preacher telling us we should do that one or how!

Hmmm anyway ṣha, we now know that every month, "tithers" must pay at least 30% in tithes! Cool.

cool
i cannot understand a single thing you wrote up there.
don't refer me to any post in 2005. it muddles up the argument. kindly state your case why you feel the tithes collected every month should be divided equally among the whole congregation.

tunnytox:
are you by any way insunuating that church are meant to make profit? if the church have more money left why not sponsor member to go on evangelism in rural ares and if there's still moremoney left in the cover it does no one any harm if the money is shared equaly
the church is meant to keep a retainer so they can continue God's work in evangelism, expansion and development. more branches, home and abroad, etc.

Lol  grin grin why not? if we can pay tithe introduced thousands of years ago why can't we share all our belongings just like early Xtians?
You see in the churches today there are several members who are in one need or the other but the Church these days has forgoten these set of people, all the church is concerned about is raisng fund for several projects, in fact the amount of pressure that some pastors put on their congregation has pushed them into commiting sin and to the extent of commiting several criminal acts just to belong. The church is not meant to be like that it should be a place of succor for the needy, the sick, the oppressed, the rich and all manners of people united by one thing which is our believe in  God and His Son Jesus Christ.

I was in one church few years ago when members were asked to contribute for the church to buy a building beside it to be used as guest room, function hall etc many members came out to contribute and even many more make pledges but it is in this same church that when a member cannot pay his house rent they asked him to come out of the congregation for members to contribute towards his house rent not many came out. And even I still wonder why he was asked to come out, the pastor of the church usually boast about how much God has blessed him and I  wondered why he or many other priviledged members cannot pay this rent instead of humilating this man who has a young family to cater for.
my question is. . . . .whose decision is it to build more buildings, buy fleet of cars, buy air-planes, etc? is it the sole decision of the pastor or is there a committee that handles these huge expenses?

moreover, the church i attend whenever i visit nigeria, they care for the needy. they have this big box in the church where the less-privileged drop their requests and there's a committee that look after them. they connect them with jobs, supply them basic needs, etc. i really don't think it's morally right to buy a lexus jeep for all the congregation because the church made $1 billion profit in the last accounting year.

If your argument is that "tithing" as the Bible teaches it is for Christians today, then the answer is YES they are meant to be shared by the congregation "equally" (depending on how we interprete "equally"wink each month.
the sole purpose of tithing is provision for the church - there should be no lack of means or money to carry out God's work.
sharing equally like the 40 thieves in ali-baba must be your own wet dreams. grin

or should we put all pastors against the wall and have them shot based on this particular article?
common sense demands each case should be considered individually. this article does not prove chris okotie is fraudulent - does it?

It is evident for all to see. Like I said, if you choose to ignore, Fine.

But dont expect others to keep quiet.
evident for all to see? how?
if it's that obvious, why haven't you arrested your pastor when you have a waterproof evidence that he has been stealing your tithes.
i don't work with conjectures or hearsays. if you are not an eye witness, you are a lie-witness.
