Smalling came up SMALL in defense, Ings ran RINGS round him all day.
Watch the first goal it was a simple OUT and IN run by Ings that discombobulated Smalling and left Ings with a free header.
Not to talk of his yeye pass competition with Evans, then one if one adds his "lago epon" that gifted Ings with another simple tap in that DDG saved then it is easy to see how rubbish he was in defense.

i would be more concerned how we allowed the cross to get into the box in the first place. any of nesta, vidic, terry or kompany would have been beaten in that same scenario. 1 v 1 with a good cross coming in always favours the striker. even if smalling got there first, there's a high probability of putting the ball in his own net as he would be facing de gea.

This is not a Jones vs Smalling issue, however it is clear that Smalling is not the answer to our defensive shambles.

smalling is our best CB.
he may not be the A+ defender but who would be with the disjointed number of appearances. he needs game time to perfect his art. he's miles better than jones & he should be partnering rojo in every game.

surely, united do a lot of long balls but they do an obscene number of short passes too. the 2 stats were merged together to see the ratio of the short passes to the long ones. how many short passes united make before they pass it long......the stats above put united 8th on the log.

i am sure if rooney gets injured, the long boring diagonal passes would reduce & we would be top on that list.

I watch all Netherland's matches. I have described what transpired on the pitch and not what they were sent out to position. The last role Robben played was a striker (which he was meant to play). He was first a winger on the right, then a killer via the middle before a striker. Sneidjer was mostly anonymous. Kyte (is that d spelling again?) Occupied the right while Robben wasn't there. The wing backs were not as attack minded as they were defence minded. Robben was three man in the attack which compensated for the whole team attacking weakness.

robben played as a striker - he partnered van persie. of course, he's a natural winger and a good dribbler. so he could collect the ball, run with it & cause damage.

sneijder played in the hole behind them. blind was the wing back. the cross that VP scored with a superman header from was from blind - he provided the width.

the tactics were very simple & after a while - holland became boring to watch. they set themselves to control games, not necessarily to win them.

kids are ready to sleep on their beds whether made or unmade. it's not a benefit to them if it's made. what gets rewarded gets done!

anytime i visit my nephews, their parents marvel at the way their kids listen to me 100% of the time. i simply reward their good behaviour. something their parents consider spoiling

they are very wise. the moment you attach a reward to their task, you suddenly see activities - who no like better thing? even the youngest of them is flexing his muscle he wants to participate too.

i always tell them - business before pleasure. do house chores, school homework then you can play video games as much as you want. the more impressed i am with their work, the more reward they get.
