would the society let them stay single? let's face it, as much as what the OP is true, the society is largely responsible for this pressure. if everyone minds their business, women would stay single & happy as it obtains in the developed parts of the world.

our society cannot harass women for being single & expect them not to take desperate measures. an unmarried woman in nigeria is an object of ridicule. it's almost like a disease for a woman with a marriageable age not to have a husband.

her parents will talk, her own friends would neglect her, family friends would keep pestering her about her wedding date & blah blah. just like the society expects a man to go out there & become successful by fire by force, it's the same for the woman to get married.

I was once denied a political position cos I am single.

In social gatherings especially alumni meetings, the single guy can't help but feel odd. And maybe an old classmate walks up to you while you are standing/sitting alone and says... "guy, where's ur madam na? Let's meet her"

Worse of all, I was denied Visa to the USA cos I am single.

americans would deny you for that - they believe it is much easier for you to disappear & never return back if you don't have a family based in nigeria. single men are also treated harshly by the society.

this isn't about sheer numbers, it's about eligibility. nigerian women are highly hypergamous. they want the best of the lot, this is why you have all these outrageous society weddings all the time. it's the dream of most women. most of them won't date their age mates, let alone date someone younger than them.

by the time you add height, finances, educational background, profession, material wealth, etc into the equation, you would see that 90% of the available men would have failed the selection process. only 10% of the men would remain for the vast number of women seeking for a partner....and thus the scarcity of eligible men.

i lock my phones & i don't even bother with my partner's phone. she should do her thing & i do mine. it's called privacy. there are personal stuff i share with my bosom friends that they wouldn't want my partner to see & vice versa.

besides, every phone should be locked. it's to ward off phone thieves - it wouldn't worth their while to steal a phone if they know it's locked. many people have regretted not locking their phones - all their personal details like selfies/nudies got into the wrongs hands & got uploaded on the internet.
