damiso: I was working full time so was my husband so I was not entitled to most of the benefits available.Child benefit was the only non means tested benefit and now sef it is, cos one partner earns over £44k you lose it.Living on benefits is crap really. Most of those you see living large on benefits lie that they have no partners.Esp those that married out of country.
remember i used the £40,000 wage bracket for both hubby & wife. living on benefit so one's wife can groom her baby is not crap. I have been paying taxes in this country for aeons......when my wife puts to bed, i will still work & pay taxes so why is it crap to take your entitlements?

Nashville: It is obvious Coogar is one of the people that has made the UK government want to impose a bond on NIgerians. All his arguements are about how to illegally milk the UK system. cheesy
conveniently forgetting mr coogar & his wife had paid taxes for years to fund the grooming of the babies of the other mothers that decided to stayathome with their kids.

your argument is always against logic!!

dayokanu: If you live in the West and have a College degree chances are that you have a college loan is that also a rat race? they need a car and get a carnote which is also a necesity
necessity my foot!
how many nigerians completed their degrees with college loans? abeg, talk another thing....nigerians come here & pay their school fees in one swoop!

If you are in Nigeria you need to rent a house in a decent neighborhood, Most landlords require 2yrs upfront payment which most new couples have to take a loan to pay. Are those part of the rat race too?
of course na, couples don't plan for this before tying the knot. you can just go on the street & snatch a woman then take her to church immediately & marry her. no wonder poverty is bread & butter in nigeria. with such mentality, is there any surprise?

As long as you dont follow your daughter to school she can also get molested in the nursery school, primary school even on the play ground
hahahaha - see your backward thinking. a daughter will be räped in school? by who? her classmates at age 3-5? her teachers under the full supervision of a canon CCTV?

dayo, you plumb the depths of irrationality when you come up with these excuses. even if my daughter gets assaulted in her school, at least that responsibility has passed over my head unlike you that brought your sëxually abusive nephew from abidjan to look after your child.

i am sure the jury won't need up to 3 mins to send you to 10 years in jail. you will cop a child negligence charge & human trafficking charge of the nephew you brought over from africa. all in your bid to save money.

So coogar how much value can you put on your daughter getting raaped while in Nursery school, primary school etc.
the chances are 1000000/1 & besides one's daughter getting räped in school can affect both the career couple & the stayathome mum camp. however, your own daughter stands a bigger risk of räpe both in school & in your home. grin

If you now have a drop in income and live in a low income area you are even more exposed to these criminals and it quadruples the risk on your children
a drop in income will not lead in a low income area. if my wife & i make £40k per annum each, she's better off staying at home than working after putting to bed.

the UK govt recognises this wife of mine is doing the society at large a huge service so she gets child benefits of about £25k that cannot be taxed. she gets various other benefits ranging from child tax credits, shopping vouchers, paid maternity stipends, etc. all these goodies while staying at home grooming the child to her taste.

if she runs back to work 3 weeks after putting to bed, the child benefit stops. she goes back to her £40k which will be taxed & her takehome pay reduces to £26k. from this £26k, she will have to deduct transport fare, child care cost, lunch, etc plus the fact that she's not there to groom her child to her own taste. after all the deductions, she's reduced to £12k.

i ask again - how are you not penny wise, pound foolish?

Nashville: Coogar,
Are you married and do you have children? Please say yes or no.
happily married grin

lady gogo: Interesting debate.
Kudos Nashville. Wetin Dayokanu go say before. HE aint got time for stay-at-home mums. grin

dayokanu: apparently all your points are so far away from reality.

You live in a world where newly married who are still coming up in their careers with loads of debt to pay have millions saved up somewhere to afford a sit at home lifestyle for 6yrs.
which debts?
the rat race to belong! debts accrued from getting cars on finance, debts accrued from mortgages just to brag to their colleagues they have arrived, debts accrued to stage an elaborate wedding running into millions of naira, etc if such loans are secured for the quality upbringing of their kids, it would make far more sense but monsieur dayokanu would rather take loans to buy X-6 BMW(a car that can only depreciate in value)

I told you to put it in figures and see how it makes sense for a family to live on one single income for 6yrs, But like you claim in your world we have companies that would pay maternity salary for the period the mother is away 6-7yrs

Your argument is far from reality in any society
that's where you are getting things wrong. the argument hinges on tangibles & intangibles. there's more to life than figures on a paper. emotional contribution is priceless & can't be valued!

i asked you a question yesterday - can you put a value on your daughter getting sëxually abused by a relative you delegated to look after her just because you & your wife must work to make ends meet?

even if you make 1 billion dollars a month, that daughter you think you're working for is scarred for life. your mouth-watering salary can never undo her emotional scars. you can even go to jail if child negligence can be proven by the state.

stillwater: But times have changed and everyone (husband and wife) must be flexible and be hands on, because we are no more in a communal society. This change should not be relegated to only the women. It would have been easier to do that in those days, because people were literally their own bosses (as in have their own farms, you can take your child to the farm, to the market) and it was a communal society with families living together, so kids have people looking out for them. This african proverb even puts it to light - It takes a village to raise a child.
This is not practical today because you are likely to work for someone else, you can't take your kid to work and you don't even live with your extended families.

But men would rather maintain the status quo (so far it worked for our ancestors, right, why can't it work for us- according to them) and it comes across as if women are rebelling against their nurturing disposition by preaching partnership between husband and wife. Times have changed and some traditions like this need to be tweaked. Both man and woman must be on deck in raising the child. Not only women need to bend her back. YPP made a very important contribution, cos African men have been lying over the years their foremothers didn't work and were sit at home parents.
so you don't think women are now rebelling against their nurturing disposition? why should nursing mothers be bribed £200 to breastfeed their own kids? grin

imagine working 9-5 in this blistering cold as a man & your taxes will go as a form of bribe to a nursing mother who feels breastfeeding is beneath her......how would you feel?

bukatyne: You have lost touch with the Nigerian environ haven't you?

E-banking + debit cards for a woman that sells lace at Balogun market?

Will not be there by 8:00am when by 8:00am different women will be coercing you to patronize them meaning

They had arrived at the market,
Cleaned it up and arranged their goods...

All before 8:00am

LOL! once again that most market women have more flexible hours than working women!
so it's not just possible for someone else to go open the store in the market while this balogun market woman is tending to her kids, it must be the nursing mother?

do you even know the meaning of flexibility? as far as the shop is open, whoever is there bears no relevance. her sibling, relative or even shopgirl(apprentices) can open the shop & business will commence.

can your sister go to the office on your behalf? grin
Family › Re: So, What's Wrong In Choosing Marriage? by coogar:
bukatyne: I laugh in Spanish!

A business woman has more flexibility than a 9 - 5 woman?

What will I not hear on NL?

Maybe you are talking about the women who have kiosks outside their houses sha
of course, she does!
she owns her own business, she doesn't have to answer to anyone or report to work at 8am. thankfully, mobile phones & e-banking plus debit cards have also helped in transacting business without necessarily having to move from one place to another.
The men are so used to getting help from their wives nowadays that the thought of her staying home for the kids (for a while) is mind boggling. Some men even vex that their spouses have to stay home for two weeks after she's put to bed. grin
lazy-arsë men like dayokanu.....
what do you expect? they have become domesticated & effeminate thinking that's the new cool. they want to see the women work themselves to death & the women themselves think it's freedom to leave the house & work and yet they still struggle to make ends meet & children suffer abuse & neglect on top of it.

And the women too, the "what a man can do a woman can do better" mentality has changed their thought processes. 'I must feel important- I must work all my life-'. Forgetting that they're the BIOLOGICAL MOTHER of those kids. The kids need their mother for those first few years. can't stress enough how important that is.
yes, modern women want to be emasculated. they want the freedom like men to wake up every morning & go to work thus abandoning their femininity. it's gotten so bad in the UK now that my taxes will be used to bribe nursing mothers to breastfeed their own children as from next year - all in the name of sëx equality.

oops - lest i forget, a big shout out to Nashville for staging a cop-out after he's exhausted all his frail points. cool
I don't think that's what he meant. Coogar is saying the 'stay-at-home' scheme is temporary (3,4-5yrs, depending on child spacing ). How does that equate to her not deserving to work?

Plus she's been working prior pregnancy/ies. It's just a break. Her Harvard degree isn't going to waste like you claim. Dedicating 5 whole years to your kids out of the 75 years one will live for isn't much of a big deal if you ask me.
of course, he knows what i mean but he's buying time for himself so he feigns ignorance. how many times am i going to repeat the stayathome scheme is a temporary measure? how many times am i going to repeat there must be an adequate plan before deciding to raise kids?
Family › Re: So, What's Wrong In Choosing Marriage? by coogar: 11:48am On Nov 22, 2013
Nashville: You keep running in between NIgeria and the UK choosing whichever you think will support your spurious claims. So I ask again, if you look at the children that run away from home in London, are their parents more likely to live in Chelsea/Kensington or Peckham/East London. Please answer truthfully. Why would a child that has gone to Eton and has admission to study medicine at Cambridge run away from home. Why would a child with a role model, hard working father and mother want to run away from home. On the other side in Peckham where lots of people are on benefits, and the children go to very crappy school, dont you think they are the more likely to run away from home. Children that are already member of gangs as teenagers and the girls mostly pregnant at 18? Please where are the gangs more predominant in London? Chelsea/Kensington to Peckham/Old Kent? Be truthful, which are has reported more gang killings?
if the child does not feel loved, all the things you listed above means nothing. these ones are even the worst when it comes to rebellion - they are the type that will go to pakistan & yemen and join al-qaeda. tell us again what mutallab lacked - his flat in central london is worth £3m.

So if your wife is not a surgeon, she does not deserve to work? Guy are your really typing this or you just want to argue? Do you think surgeons are the highest paid in the world or UK? Do you know a derivatives trader can make about 5 times more than a surgeon makes? Not sure you know that.
do you have difficulty interpreting simple sentences? i said there's no work out there that can substitute leaving my kids to strangers for unless my wife is a surgeon general. if we cannot afford leaving her job then we won't raise kids & she would continue doing her job - how does this translate to if she's not a surgeon general she cannot work?

And from the numbers you quote you know nothing about NIgeria's population. We are about 160million people with about half of those under 25. So if you remove retired women and illterate women, then your sample of active educated women (graduates) in the work force is more like 10 million.
10 million female graduates in the workforce in nigeria? you must be having a laugh - you surely have problems with numbers.

On the other hand alot of these women also do business, importation, etc. So to think that just a few earn 100k a month is alarming. In fact you need to change the kind of friends you have as I can see they may not got you very far!
if a lot of these women do business & importation then it means they also don't have a routine 9-5 job & thus they are flexible & can stayathome when rearing their children. so what's the fuss about?

how come the minimum wage in nigeria is less than N20,000 if majority earn N100,000? how come the median monthly income(both sexes) in nigeria is about N50,000? we are talking about a country where there's a wide gender wage discrimination & you think majority of the females earn N100k/month?

please - rethink your points!
Family › Re: So, What's Wrong In Choosing Marriage? by coogar:
Nashville: Now you must be joking. You mean rich people have more children running away from home than the poor? So let me ask you. For most of the children that run away from home in Lagos, are their parents more likely to live in VI/Ikoyi or Ajegunle/Mushin. So you believe most of the area boys have parents that live in Ikoyi and VI? U really believe that?
in the UK, the rich suffer more runaway kids than the poor. the primary cause of this is neglect & the kids not feeling loved enough. the poor in the UK are mostly benefit scroungers - they stay home & watch TV with their kids in the afternoon.

Secondly you want your wife to be a top surgeon? Where is she going to start from? From the top? You dont want her to work at all unless she is given the very top job? Seriously mate, what are you thinking. So unless your wife is given the CEO job, then she is better off at home? What experience will make them give her the top job? Chidcare?
even logic suggests she must have been a surgeon before the issue of rearing children comes up so you are arguing backwards.

i said "unless my wife is a surgeon, i don't think any salary out there is worth leaving my kids in the hands of strangers" - i ask again, which one precedes the other? the profession or the pregnancy?

Bros did you really say 70k is what women dont earn? Any Oil Company, Bank, Telecomms or Consulting job pays more than that every month. Anyone. Doctors, Lawyers etc all earn more than that. Are you sure you are talking of educated women with some years of experience or are you talking about a village girl looking for a job?
what percentage of the nigerian women workforce are in oil, bank, telecom & consulting jobs? nigeria is 160 million population - let's assume 40 million women are in employment - i put it to you that less than 1 million women of that 40 million are high salary earners - they are in the minority!
Family › Re: So, What's Wrong In Choosing Marriage? by coogar: 10:56am On Nov 22, 2013
damiso: And THAT Efe is one of the main reasons its not a good idea basically because of how we are. Most Nigerians find it difficult to respect anyone they feel is not financially pulling their weight. It happens among siblings parents sef, the highest earner often gets the most respect. At the other end of the coin too, it takes a reorientation and perhaps some kind of strength of character for some Nigerian women to really really respect a man she out earns. Respect should not necessarily be tied to finance but unfortunately that's how we are. Some Naija men start taking the pi*** when they feel what are you contributing sef,so yeah In the typical naija setting its advisable to please earn your keep to retain your respect. There was this thread on stay at home husbands and some people were like yeah I dont mind.In Naija? Dont think so grin.Even if you respect your man, na people go help you disrespect am,'common keep quiet there no be your wife dey feed you' grin grin grin.
the truth is most nigerians don't know jack about family planning. newlywed husbands regardless of their income or finances just impregnate their partners to prove to the society they are potent.

after spending their entire savings on their wedding to please the society, the next thing they do is to quickly bring a child into the equation without adequate planning. the orientation needs to change in that country.

yellowpawpaw: I love this debate.

To those advocating that women should stay at home let's do a little flashback.

In d olden days, we don't hv career women rather we hv market women. In igboland for example, the women wake up very early to prepare to various town markets. Mind u they trek(no proper means of transportation then). Around 4 pm u c them parking their wares to head home (they r mostly in groups) by d time they reach home, its already dark. The next day, d cycle continues.
For most of us who don't understand what I am saying let me illustrate.

In igboland we hv 4 market days. Afor, nkwo, eke, oye.
Each town has different market days ascribed to their town market eg Eke Awka in Anambra state, Nkwor Nnewi etc. Market women have stalls or shades in those different town markets which they go to to buy and sell.

Invariably, they r mostly not at home and yet run their home affairs successfully.
I think such is still being practised by many.
They were equivelant to today's career women.
So my question is, if those our great grand mothers did that and succeded, pray tell me why today,s women can't be career women and still succeed in the home front.
Mind u also that in those days, men don't help out in d home like they do now. No washing machine, vacuum cleaner, dish washer, personal vehicle, and still go and do farm work. And they give birth like chicken too.
Where and what is the problem pls?
this illustration is flawed.
the kids stayed with their mother. everyone goes to the farm. the mothers put their babies on their backs & toiled in the farm with them. that period of life was when children spent time with their parents the most & we could tell from the way these kids became upstanding citizens in their neighbourhood.

crime rate was low - parents disciplined their wards when they stepped out of line & the whole village acted as parents for any wayward child. there was no formal education then as well so the market/farm/river represented the formal education in those years.
Family › Re: So, What's Wrong In Choosing Marriage? by coogar:
Nashville: so you really think women in nigeria dont earn up to 100k monthly? Chai? We definitely know different kinds of women and i will leave it there. For you to ask how many women make 100k monthly is shocking.
how many of them earn that much? why concentrate on the minority when the majority should be focused on? even a woman that is earning N70k per month would puff her chest that she wants to work in case something happens to the hubby - what safety net does N70k/month provide in case a husband dies?

i fail to see how that amount is the preferable option to hiring potential criminals to look after my kids. go to google & see the number of kids that have been kidnapped by house helps in nigeria because madam insisted on working.....

you keep quoting 100k children leave home every year. Do you really think these children belong to parents that both went to oxford where the dad is a banker and the mum works for a top law firm? Or do you think these kids belong to lowly paid or jobless irresponsible parents where both parents live on welfare. Think about it before answering or you can do some more research.
the rich actually suffer runaway kids the most. thousands of the kids ran away when they felt no love & many have been converted by radical muslims. i can give you links on this if pressed.

unless my wife is a top surgeon general, i don't think any salary she makes can substitute leaving my kids in the hands of strangers that may abuse my kids.....if she's a surgeon, then i am ready to sacrifice my own career to stay at home with my kids.

Nashville: Coogar, are you in Helsinki yet or would you rather open Coogar university in the Uk?
siddon there.....
i am @ gatwick already going on a RECCE to helsinki. i will give you a comprehensive report when i get back.
Family › Re: So, What's Wrong In Choosing Marriage? by coogar:
dayokanu: Lets start this analysis. How many yrs do you propose a woman stay with a new born child?
How many yrs do you think is the normal child spacing in couples
2-3 years is adequate for a newborn.

Now do this calculation for a family having 3 kids and tell me how many yrs the mother would have to stay at home.
who told you i want 3 children? what are they using kids to do in the world? pawn them on eBay or craigslist?

What does this have to do with the discussion, if you are working a job that gives a lower take home than a similar person with a lower, then you would drop it.
yes, i would drop it.
it won't worth our while to keep going to work when we must pay for child care round the clock to substitute for my wife's roles in the home - it makes no economic sense. how many people can even afford au pair in the UK? their monthly pay is even much more than the monthly income of the mother hiring them so you are talking balderdash!

If the father is working the same hours as he was when they were just a family of 2 working adults, then there would be a drop in family income
there wouldn't be any drop & if there's a small difference, it's already eaten up by the intangibles of parental bonding instead of living your precious kids at the mercy of pëdophiles.

can you put a value on your kids getting sëxually abused? answer me, you dork!'

If you raise your kids in Peckham or a project because you are operating on a single income there is little you can do to stop the negative influences
rubbish assertion.
hubby & wife were living as a middle class citizens before their kids......so few years of the wife staying at home & actually doing small scale business will suddenly reduce lekki residents to bariga tenants....

wow!

#offtobed.....
Family › Re: So, What's Wrong In Choosing Marriage? by coogar:
dayokanu: You are the one getting it wrong.

A couple starts a family now, They would be in child making for at least 7yrs and they would have kid(s) under 6 for at least 15yrs if they have 3
this couple just decided to start a family with no back up plan before hand, right? ....is that how people start families? no disposable income? no savings? no planning? they just hump each other, produce kids and then start planning after the kids have been born?

your logic in wattage cannot light a torch.

So for a mother to be at home with any child under 6 would mean the mother is at home for over 10yrs. Who would pay a non working mother for maternity leave for 10yrs in a row?
yes, this mother cannot do any job in the 10 years she's at home, huh? no small-scale business she could be doing from home while grooming her kids? she cannot even acquire online degrees or associate certificates while at home - she will just sleep & sit her bütt in one position.

While the mother is staying home till the first child is 4yrs, she is already pregnant for the second, etc
if the imperialists planned family this way, their poverty would subdue ours in africa. you need lessons in family planning.

How does a man retaining his normal hour make up for the loss in income kindly explain
and i have told you i am better off with £80k per annum than me & my wife earning £160k per annum. after the £150k threshold is crossed, the 50% tax becomes activated.

You think so? tell people they wont be getting paid for work and lets see how many ppl would continue working

People work because thats the only means of livelihood
people work because they dunno better. they have been enslaved to think working full throttle suddenly removes their problem. you are a slave to capitalism & you don't even know it.
Family › Re: So, What's Wrong In Choosing Marriage? by coogar:
Nashville: But you just suggested that a woman working 9-5pm is an absentee mum. How come it is not applicable to the dads?
because women are nurturers and men can't do much as far as child rearing is concerned. do you have breaśtmilk? can you even clean after your baby when he defecates?

since when did gender roles become interchangeable? so the moment your wife puts to bed, she can go back to work the next week so that you can take her role?

dayokanu: The crux of the matter is lost here. Someone has to make the financial gap else the living standard of the family would drop significantly
there's no financial gap to be made....there's a period of about 36 weeks between conception & childbirth - so unless your own spërm cells fertilise eggs & bring forth a child the same day, you are talking trash as usual. a sane & responsible human being must have planned for the arrival of this baby before hand - babies don't just drop from heaven - responsible couples plan for it.

If husband continues doing what he was doing while the wife stops working entirely then that makes the now BIGGER family depend on one income instead of two
So something has to give.
in the UK, nothing has to give......
sometimes, lower income gives you a better takehome pay than a higher one because of the tax cut-off

The 100,000 runway kids have nothing to do with the absent fathers? who probably are working their asses off while the wife is at home?
fathers return from work after 5pm to bond with the kids. he's with them throughout the weekend. he takes them to football, cinema, parks, etc - he's not an absent dad. come up with a better point.

maybe if the wife works they would live in a better neighborhood where the kids stand a lesser chance of being exposed to vices at an earlier age
if the wife works, kids are even more exposed to external influences. who's there to put them in check when hubby & wife have surrendered their roles for some pedophiliac au pair feeding your kids with snorts & what not?

you got a lot to learn!!!

dayokanu: Does these quality of life, quality of relationship, quality of sex, spirituality, modesty and family life for quantity of sex, quantity of life, assertiveness, competition exclude the man since he is basically round the clock to cover for two adults or does the family take a cut in their lifestyle?
i hate going round in circles but i have to address your obtuse line of argument. i am doing 9-5, my wife is doing 9-5. she gets pregnant & she's on paid maternity leave while i continue my 9-5, how in the name of zeus does this even suggest i am working round the clock?

do you people argue with any iota of logic?

So how does the FAMILY work when the man is out most of the time and these end up breeding the same problems the society has which is "absent fathers"
how's 9-5 any similar to being an absent father? logic logic logic & it fails you each time you ask these yeye questions?

Most people work because they need to, If everyone had a rich trust fund to fall back on most ppl wont work I wont work if I has $500m ineritance
most people work because they dunno better or they have been made slaves by the system. work to live vs live to work, you decide which one you are entangled in.
Family › Re: So, What's Wrong In Choosing Marriage? by coogar:
Nashville: I guess your six figure salary is in pounds. Well you do not need a six figure salary to put food on the table. In fact the highest tax bracket in the Uk starts at £40,000 which a lot of women earn. It may not be six figures but it sure can put food on the table for a family of three.
i am talking about nigeria, not the UK.
an orphan in the UK can complete multiple degrees without the aid of anyone. education is free till tertiary institution & student loans apply after then so i couldn't have been talking about the uk where kids get paid by the state every week till age 16 or thereabout.

We were having an intellectual debate and you dont need to take it personal. Not sure how quality of sex can be improved if a man works tirelessly just for his wife to sit at home. I do not have a problem with women who have chosen to be stay at home mums. It is ok as long as their husbands are fine with it. I have only said it is possible for a woman to have children and a career. It only takes planning.
how ironic to use the word personal when you were the one that threw the first jab that i must have little regards for women? your logic is mind-boggling.

the man does not work tirelessly - he is doing what he would have been doing if his wife was working. how does the routine change? before children, hubby & wife worked 9-5. after the child is born, hubby works 9-5 and wifey is at home - how is this making him work tirelessly? you gotta be clowning here, mate!!

I love having a confident and fulfilled lady as my wife who can also add value to the lives of her children beyond cooking and cleaning after them. I want a woman who is a help-meet to me and not a house-help. I know you will misquote me that I have said all housewives are house-helps, but we all know better. If it is her choice and she is content and happy being a house wife then so be it. But I will not manipulate or coerce my wife to give up her career because we have children or better still because I always want to control and Lord myself over her.
i fail to see how any absent mum would add any value to her kids apart from materialistic bonds which have been known to fail at least in my own neck of the woods. 100,000 runaway kids in the UK every year is an indicator that chasing 2 massive objectives will not get the best of both worlds.

raising kids is a career on it's own & my wife filling in the gap for 4-5 years is a temporary measure - it will not suddenly make her destitute. no one is coercing anyone into housewifery or whatever. i owe my kids quality upbringing & i do not consider hiring house-helps to do these jobs as quality grooming.

Nashville: It would not take away the grief but may put food on the table for her kids to eat. And why do you think her salary has to be meagre. You obviously have very little regard for women in general. No wonder you do not think they have anything to contribute!
so how many women actually earn the 6-figure salary that would have sent her kids to oxbridge on the off chance of her hubby's demise? you are not advancing any point one jot here - just muddying the waters. the death of a spouse is a devastating blow to any family whether they are both in employment or only one is in employment. most women even become too emotionally destroyed to start again.

as for little regard for women, it's another cop-out ploy of yours. i have high regards for selfless women that have decided to put their family first before their career. i have huge respect for women who value affectionate bonds more than materialistic economic bonds.

it would do us all a great favour if pro-feminist men like yourself would stop criminalising the traditional housewife and chastise men for choosing them. if you want to forsake quality of life, quality of relationship, quality of sex, spirituality, modesty and family life for quantity of sex, quantity of life, assertiveness, competition and materialist achievement in your quest for equality be my guest, but please don't criticise us men for not wanting such a woman as a wife!

you are free to live your life as you please and let others do the same. men who want a housewife aren’t threatened by emancipated women, they are simply men who value family life and relationships and it is natural for them to want a female companion that complements them with which to build solid and stable families they don’t have to feel ashamed of!!!

Nashville: Yes he had a gratuity and savings but how can that pay for three children in private university at the same time and for how long? This is a real life story - no kidding.
so if the woman had a job, it would suddenly take away the grief she experienced after the demise of the husband or her meagre salary would have seen the kids out of a private university?

nigerians - your logic makes me laugh.

Nashville: Please home school your children up to University level and when you are done, you can award them a Bachelor's degree from the Coogar University. Do you guys have post graduate studies too?
you are doing a cop-out....
no one ever said the wife should stop employment for the rest of her life - why do you people like arguing in the extremes? so 4-5 years taken out to groom the kids would suddenly make a woman destitute?

So why stay in the UK where they keep your kids in school till 330pm? You and your family should be in Helsinki already.
i am working on it - the finland example was just to tell you letting your children spend half of the day in school is actually harmful do keep at it in the name of survival. grin

I thought you needed to give your kids the very best grooming which is obviously unavailable in the UK and only available in such great countries like Finland and Poland (yes kids start schooling at age 7 in Poland too)!
finland is an eu country.....it's a stone throw & yes everyone is actually trying to adopt their methods. their kids have been topping the PISA league for more than a decade now - as a result of letting them stay more at home than in school.
Family › Re: So, What's Wrong In Choosing Marriage? by coogar:
Nashville: If that is the case then your better home school your children and have just you and your wife teach them. Remember school closes at 3:30pm officially for children from ages four and above (reception class). So if you think the school takes too much of your children's time, then dont take them there. After school club is just an extra hour where children can learn things like tennis, swimming, ballet and soccer. Is that too much? Then mummy or daddy can pick them up at 430pm.
letting kids spend that so much time away from their parents is counter-productive. i may home school my kids or send them to helsinki where kids get the best grooming in the world.

their kids don't start school till 7 & they spend only 4 hours in school. even 15-year olds don't do more than 30 mins homework. emphasis is with the quality time spent with the parents at home & guess what? finnish kids are the best in the world - even better than their peers in korea & singapore.

My real advice for you is not to send your children to school and have your illiterate wife just watch over them, as I believe you do not need an educated woman too..
so a woman that sacrifices her career to put quality time with the kids temporarily is an illiterate? i like your logic - you are one of those that demonise courageous women who put their family before their career.

well done!!!

Nashville: This thing happened to a family friend. A very educated woman, her husband never allowed her work. The man had a good job but died unexpectedly. She had never worked and at that time it was too late to start anything. Not only did she not have money, she did not know how to manage money. Things became soo bad for her. I really pitied the children. Their father was physically dead and their mother was not very helpful economically. These things happen o!
no pension scheme? life insurance? savings? how's this not similar to nollywood movies? even if the man didn't die, he had no plans at all for his kids.
Family › Re: So, What's Wrong In Choosing Marriage? by coogar: 11:42pm On Nov 21, 2013
Nashville: You claim you live in the UK, so I will use the UK example. When a woman gives birth, most companies give upto 12 months of maternity leave with at least 6 months paid. My own company gives women upto 18 months with 9 months paid. In fact men can now take up to 6 months of paternity leave if the wife has to go to work. So first of all the arguement is not having a child today and starting work next month.
what is 6 months paternity leave in the life of a child & what's 18 months?

So fast forward to four years time when the child starts reception. At reception, the child goes to school till 3:30pm. Most schools even have after school activities for another 1 or 2 hours. Lets even say one hour. So, between the hours of 830pm to 430pm or 530pm, the child is in school. Please tell me what the mother should be doing between 830am and 430pm or even 530pm. Please explain why the mother should be at home during this period when the child is in school. You probably say she is at home praying for the child. But please explain.
mother can work at home while the kids are in school. then again, i don't really buy into the whole afterschool club nonsense - young children under six years old do not understand why their parents leave them in the care of others for long periods of time. all they know is that you are not there. they may learn how to cope, but there is a wide gulf between coping and thriving.

child care teaches children how to cope. child care is not the same as early childhood education which allows children to expand their learning experiences appropriate to their age.

early childhood education means about two or three hours a day, three to five days a week depending on the age of the child. child care, on the other hand, de facto occurs when you leave your children somewhere all day or most of the day, most every day. no matter how "good" or expensive or "quality" the facility, the inescapable reality is the amount time the child is in a care facility.

the message you tacitly send to your child is: you are not important enough to me for me to be with you. no matter what the circumstances of your life or what you say to your child, your child internalizes that he is not first in your life, which makes him not feel safe. young children need to spend the vast majority of their time with their parents. money cannot buy love!

dayokanu: In the US its been found out that the absence of fathers in the life a children leads to a lifetime of crime especially in black families
that's total absence in their entire lives. how is it possible a father works 24/7? he doesn't rest? come home to shower, sleep, etc? abeg - don't mix unrelated issues with what a father must do when kids are still below 4/5 years of age.

So what does the children and the family gain when they barely see their father because he has to work round the clock to provide or when would the wife not cheat when the husband is basically absent.
no father works round the clock...
even robocop went home to rest. fathers do their normal 9-5, they come home & take over so the wives can rest & engage some social activities too. it's a division of labour as a temporary measure until the kids are well off & don't need close monitoring.

It's as good as father in another country as long as he sends money home
go to bed jor.....lazy husband!!!

ireneidiva: Coogar society has changed, u'll be suprised at just how domestic some men can be. Weda you pay in her bank acc or not, its stil you that gave her! And its stil you that can stop it anytime.
if i stop her standing order, she stops taking care of my kids. i think i have more to lose, why would i want to stop taking care of a wife that is taking care of our kids?

ireneidiva: the milk can be stored you know? Women that work still come home to their families after the work, you know? Well its your choice, find that woman you'll instruct to stop work because of kids and marry. Give her money before you leave for work everyday for her hair, bis, feeding, sanitary pad etc. If you are very comfortable with it, cool.
hahahaha - the old fashioned way?
hell no. she gets the money wired(standing order)into her account every certain day of the month in bulk. the days of peeling wads of notes to one's wife every morning like a village tyrant is well & truly over.

dayokanu: Would it be ideal if the husband works 24hrs to cater for the family and barely sees the children because he has toprovide and do the job of the two parents in one body.
he has no mammary gland, no maternal instinct to know what certain type of baby cry connotes. is the baby cold? hot? hungry? thirsty? pressed? men lack such innate abilities - the man should be the sole provider in this period. the baby is too young to notice the hubby's presence or absence.
Family › Re: So, What's Wrong In Choosing Marriage? by coogar: 10:12pm On Nov 21, 2013
ireneidiva: nah, you are not. Raising a kid is the work of both parents not just the mum. You cant say a lady should not pursue a career because she has kids, das a stoneage mentality. Afterall its the kids she is hustling for.
more like she's hustling for herself..........
children don't ask to be brought into this world - parents who cannot afford to raise kids should not have kids, it's as simple as that.

then again, throwing material stuff & money at kids to compensate for the absence is a temporary fix. sometimes, it's the physical presence that the child really wants, not the biggest toy @ the mall.

100,000 kids run away from home every year in the UK. the major causes are abuse & neglect. raising the kid is the work of both parents but is it the hubby that will brëastfeed the kid?
Family › Re: So, What's Wrong In Choosing Marriage? by coogar: 8:28pm On Nov 21, 2013
ireneidiva: Coogar i hope your point is nt that a woman should leave her career. Anyway my own advice is that you can have it all. Get a nanny for your kids when your job takes you away, marry an understanding man. And finally, remember that excuse is d shortest way to failure, many married women are in top positions, it wasn't easy but they did it! Nothing good comes easy
if she wants to raise children, she should leave her career. if she's not interested in having kids then she can pursue her career aggressively. matter of fact, i will support her morally & financially in getting more certifications to rise to the very top. grin cheesy

am i an understanding hubby or not? grin cheesy

Nashville: Not sure any good thing comes easy in life except your dad is Dangote or Bill Gates. We all know the first few years are tough everywhere in the world. I have lived in the US, UK and Nigeria and raising a family is not easy anywhere, especially the first 5 - 7 years. While I will not support my wife to have a consulting job that takes her out of town all the time, I just cannot understand how you can say a woman have a 9-5pm day job is incompatible with raising a family.
it was easy when men were doing it alone - then women joined the workforce & we have to leave our precious kids in the hands of total strangers. the govt is not stüpid - they know most husbands & wives work and the income they earn might give room to inflation so they doubled the prices & it's almost like what it used to be when only husbands were in employment.

To Damiso's example, your company is a bit harsh cos I have worked in the Uk and there have been several instances where I have had to go in late or not show up at all just to watch my kids school play or take them to school. It all depends on the nature of the job.
the competition is higher nowadays....there are too many qualified applicants seeking jobs out there. it's the employer's world!

Mind you, let us not talk as if, bringing up the children is the mother's responsibility. This responsibility should be shared and may be what makes it very very difficult for some women is that their husbands dont do anything to help them.
it will always happen this way because the roles are not interchangeable. 70% of these tasks are biology. a woman knows when her baby is crying even if she's far off - it's the motherly instinct. men don't have these innate abilities - you can train him from now to eternity & the connection is missing. things would have been easier if men share the responsibility of carrying babies for 9 months like women.

As I said, I will not spend all that money on my daughter for her to be watching African Magic for the rest of her life. God forbid, the man loses his job or becomes incapacitated or even dies young. Can a woman who has never worked or earned an income support the family? Who knows what life will throw at us.
i will spend money & train my daughters but if they decide to become full housewives, it's their prerogative. i never intended to take their salary just because i trained them. how many of today's women are even doing the jobs from the courses their parents spent top dollar on?

what makes you think ini edo did not study medicine in UNICAL? is she practising as a doctor now? would you say her life isn't fulfilled cos she changed her career path? my role as a parent is to provide several options for my daughters. theirs is to choose what suits them.
