lady gogo: lol. na so o. someone mentioned how cheap fibre optic internet is in the UK (15 pounds a month)? fiber gini? Broadband sef is still expensive.broadband is slow in north america and very expensive. it's baffling that the "supposed" greatest country in the world are still struggling to provide fibre-optic internet in 2013.
No it isn't. Can you get the "free" phone today on the "price" plan and then quit tomorrow and keep the phone without any penalties? NO MY FRIEND. IT ISN'T FREE!!
it's free on a contract..... i got my iphone free of charge with the promise to pay the monthly charges for 18 months! the monthly plan is heavenly and i don't get charged to receive any call unlike you lots!!! |
So you do not know anything about social security? Educate yourself. Mobile technology in nigeria is better than america? chineke i haff died
nigerians don't get charged for receiving calls.....their minutes don't get deducted for receiving calls. social security my foot! with no tangible health insurance scheme, the average american is a dead man walking. don't people get cuffed to their hospital beds if they cannot pay for the health costs. ordinary pap smear test for women that's free of charge here is a luxury in america. there's no walk-in health centres to treat accident & emergency victims free of charge..... america is a joke!!!! lady gogo: yeah.its nonsense but its still way cheaper than Nigeria. I get 200 mins a month and free evenings from 5pm and free weekends for 39 CAD $.i get free minutes anytime, anyday to any mobile network and any landphone in the UK for £51/month. it comes with unlimited internet data too. |
Either you guys are just trying to be silly or you're just plain ignorant. Ever heard of Social Security? Even Bill Gates is entitled to SOcial security upon reaching retirement age
social security? really? https://blogs-images.forbes.com/danmunro/files/2012/12/HCcostsbyAge.png lady gogo: The same applies here(Canada) as well. lol. I swear the whole of NOrth AMerica is just crap when it comes to Mobile technology. They are ripping us of big timemobile technology in nigeria is better than what you have in america. how can phone companies charge you for receiving calls? it's just nonsense!!!
You were the one who brought up the issue of nigerians in the USA. I never insinuated that nigerians in the UK are not doing okay. The only thing i said which remains was my comparison of the ease of getting gainful employment for a naija citizen in the uk versus nigeria. You started the whole USA thing.
there's no ease for any naija grad getting a job in naija aside from the fact that he has a right to work. that right is denied 95 times out of 100. |
It is really sad when people still believe hearsay. I am giving you facts yet you chose to believe only what you've heard from people. I gave you a scenario and you're relating it to tonto dikeh being a virgin meaning i'm a liar abi?
i have been to america to witness the sufferings of nigerians there. nigerians in britain get the stick because it's closer to nigeria with a high concentration of various nigerian communities scattered around the country!' Okay let me break it down for you. You can go to glassdoor.com to confirm statements if you like.by the same token, there are also a handful of nigerians in the UK taking about £22k/month in contract jobs. some of them are not university graduates! so it's even steven! Sure you still have those hustling but there are thousands doing really well. Even in other industries that are low paying, the average starting salary for graduate engineers is 65 - 80 K. Lots of nigerians have graduate jobs.same here in the UK! It saddens me when people make these comments e.g nigerians in the US dey wash dead bodi. I am yet to even meet one person that has worked in a morgue. Not saying they don't exist but if it was that prevailent, i would have met at least one. Ill stop here because its just going to derail further.i cannot begrudge the hustling of any nigerian. at the end if the day, everyone is trying to survive. however, the assertion the nigerians in one country are better off than the ones in the UK is just a myth driven mostly by ignorance..... |
shymexx: Bwahahahahahahaha @ the bolded!!even the skype has hiccups - they have one of the slowest broadband services in the developed world! fibre optic internet that costs only £15 per month here is still non-existent in yankee! american dream indeed!!!! |
lady gogo: @Coogar. And add No legally required vacation time and 0 paid maternity leave. Their three month unpaid maternity leave bill wasnt passed until 1993. lol. Seriously? Swaziland and Papua New guinea have unpaid maternity leave as well. Please pray tell how its a first world country. The USA is work till you burn out and drop dead.useless country.....they work till they die, no provision for the old people that are retired. they are all made to pay thousands of dollars in their old ages.... the only first world country where you can be charged for receiving a phone call on your mobile.... shymexx: Lmao @ coogar clowning yanks about phone calls.the first thing a yank asks you is your landphone number. the maximum they can do is talk for 30 mins on your mobile and that's it. i spend aeons on the phone talking with them either mobile or landphone(almost free) and they spew nonsense about the american dream!!! |
I am not counting illegal nigerians. I am simply counting those that will become illegal if they do not secure employment and so on and so forth. It's logical to exclude british nigerians because thats the whole point of this arguement. Immigration status coupled with the dwindling economy has made it difficult for naija graduates to secure employment. empashis on naija graduate - naija citizen, foreign student in the UK. british nigerians are not foreigners in the UK.
so a nigerian graduate that came here at age 25 to do his masters degree and married a british citizen along the line is not a foreigner here? you have shifted posts too many times to be taken serious. there are naija grads with work-permit, there are naija grads with indefinite leave to remain in your stats! you need to admit you have made grave errors in your submission! Here is why i prefer we don't add sentiments. How many of the people you know that work 5 jobs account for the large majority of nigerians in the USA? What circle of people do you know/roll with?i don't need to roll with workers with low-paying jobs to know the american dream is a farce. majority of nigerians in america are broke! some of you cannot even travel to nigeria twice a year!!! I live/work in an area where most of the people in my circle make nothing less than 100k USD a year working a 9-5. Come to the energy corridor in houston and find out. You won't hear me say that all nigerians earn more than 100k USDand tonto dikeh is a certified virgin..... For you to come here and assert that most people work 5 jobs is ludacris. If you had said 2 or 3 sef, but 3-5.yes they do.....3 jobs weekdays, 2 other jobs during the weekends. jobs ranging from office cleaning, kitchen, driving cabs, gardeners, etc. The hardest working group comprises the nurses and most of them have just one job, they just happen to work long hours. Gone are the days when nigerians in the USA worked ridiculous jobs. There are thousands of nigerians with decent well paying jobs in the USA so your statement is not correctby the same token, there are thousands of nigerians in the UK making £300 - £1000 per day in 9-5 jobs without breaking their backs. stop telling us porkies how life is good in the US when most of you guys cannot even call mobile phone numbers in the UK..... y'all are broke-ašses!!! |
Haba. 50k for many years? At least for the banks it averages 100k. There are nigerian graduates that are british but they are not part of this discussion because immigration/paper issues do not affect them.
so a nigerian graduate with a british passport is not a nigerian graduate? i wonder why your stats is only counting nigerians that are illegal - nigerians that are not meant to be here at all are being compared to the ones that should normally not have any restriction and the comparison is fair to you? it says a lot about the employment in nigeria if the graduates in nigeria are being compared to their counterparts in the UK that are technically breaking the law for remaining in the UK. I argue with facts and not sentiments. Where have you seen someone working 5jobs and then still make less than 3000? My guy you are lieing.plenty of them - super plenty of them. you would be hard-pressed to see nigerians in the US with one job. far majority are doing more than one job with their disgusting minimum wage that varies from state to state. Lets no derail. The issue is UK vs Naija for naija grads.and everyone knows the peeps in the UK are entitled to more free services than the peops in the US. the supposed God's own country that has no free health and a visit to the hospital overnight would set you back up to $1000. that's a country?? |
ckkris: Emphasis is on WEALTH CREATION. And one funny chap is asking me to define, as him be jamb. English men have perfected the culture of lies and deception, especially on how to live off OPM -other peoples' money. And Nigerians want to be like them, instead of learning how to CREATE WEALTH, which Nigeria has the manpower and the resources to do. Is South Korea in any way more endowed than Nigeria? Make you people go stay there, but those wey de here will keep inching forward.the fact that britain is the closest to nigeria amongst the developed world makes it attractive. add that to the language factor and you have a near-perfect scenario! so what if they spend other people's money? the rich takes care of the poor and everyone is happy. wealth creation is vastly irrelevant! there's plenty of money generated in the system! |
There lies the problem. Don't you think it's better to work in a bank in nigeria and make 100-200k than wasting time in the UK? Of course if you're one of the lucky few that lands a white collar job in the UK sure, go for it.
you are a fantasist - how many nigerian grads are earning 200k wages? the average starts with 50K for many years before getting upgraded whilst staying with their parents. the grads here have already understood the meaning of responsibility and £800/month wages in the UK is unthinkable!!!! who can survive on that in a month with rent, bills, transport and food in the UK? One thing we also fail to acknowlege is that most of the opportunities we refer to are prevailent in STEM degrees. We have thousands of nigerian students in the UK studying other degrees in the arts as well that don't have as many opportunities. Maybe pre-2008, all the stuff you guys are yarning may have applied, but to say 50% chance in 2013 in the UK for a naija grad is "wishful" thinkingit's wishful thinking to you because you erroneously believe there are no nigerian graduates here that are british citizens. when you put them in your stats then things might become clearer to you! Even the US of morrrafaaackn A where employment chances are better (i hope we don't have to argue that), you can not say 50% chance.millions of low-paying jobs that barely support an individual. it's only in america i have seen nigerians working 3-5 jobs at a time to make ends meet and the total wages raked in per month is less than $3000. na jobs be that? |
Excuse you? Wrong my friend. Once again, this topic is not about those that have "rights" to work or citizens of the UK. The topic addresses illegal immigration. How do the peopl you talk about fall into this category?
the topic does not address illegal immigration - the topic has been derailed since page 1 by afam. the topic of discussion as we speak is the chances of a nigerian graduate in the UK in comparison to nigeria..... and i am saying the nigerian grad in the UK has about 50% chance to gain employment whilst his counterpart in nigeria has about 5% chance. many of the jobs the grads in nigeria do, if you consider the wages, cannot even be reckoned with! |
Like i said before, where did you school? Where in your write-up does it state employment rate for nigerians in the UK. Comprehension is a problem for a lot of people. We are not comparing the overall unemployment rate in the UK to the overall unemployment rate in Nigeria. There is a reason why we are talking about the fall-outs of illegal immigration. Your copy and paste does not apply at all
his copy and paste job makes sense.... what his comment is saying is this - 6 out of 10 nigerian graduates that have the rights to work in the UK are in full employment.
That is my point. You have to consider the "paper" issue because it is being used as a criterion. If they can not get jobs because of papers then there are no jobs for them. That principle does not apply to them in nigeria. They don't have that restriction in nigeria. That is why i maintain they have a better chance getting a job in nigeria. Not everyone can be the best of the best. The brightest will be selected but what happens to the others? They stand a better chance in Nigeria than doing menial jobs hoping that "offer" will some day show up.
even with the paper issue, it's still easier in the UK to find a job than in nigeria. there are millions of illegal immigrants in employment too. it's about common sense and determination. the rights to work is the only stumbling block for a nigerian graduate in the UK! a nigerian graduate in nigeria, in spite of the right to work, has no hope. if they do, there wouldn't be an estimated 40 million jobless youths unemployed! hell, the employers actually think far majority of the nigerian grads in nigeria are unemployable plus there are no jobs to even go round for the staggering population. |
How about you also quote the case of others that went home and got good jobs in naija. I know a guy who got his job with an oil major via networking on the plane back home. Does this mean everyone has the same result? There are tonnes that went home and are doing well. There are also others that stayed behind and are doing well. What you cannot argue is that there is a HUGE population of naija grads in the UK hanging in between without any job offers and returning to school with 1,2,3 and sometimes 4 degrees hoping that ellusive offer will show up.
and i am telling you they are hanging in because after their degree, majority have less than 18 months left on their students visa. most companies refuse to hire them because of that factor. those that cannot cope go back to nigeria and those that have other plans in the pipeline either stay to get low-skilled jobs or where the issue of visa screening is not often checked! don't throw a blanket statement that there are no jobs for naija graduates in the UK without looking at the underlying issues. if we discount graduates with visa issues, you would be hard-pressed to find a jobless nigerian that carries a british passport or residency! |
50calibre: And they get chics drool over them like crazy! They spend big like there is no tomorrowso unfair!!! Lol America may not be the ideal destination for everyone, but its pretty cool though.ideal destination? if you visit america and you fall sick then you are in trouble. your fat pockets would cop anorexia!!! it's the least favourite country i have visited. |
jackbauersballs: Not the girls though...trust metheir babes come super-handy in those long hard winters. very strong breed of women!!! |
You guys are falling my hand oo. Read well before rushing to post. No one said getting a job in naija is easy. Heck getting a job in any country is hard. I said and i repeat, the odds of you getting a job as a nigerian in naija is way greater than in the UK.
that cannot be true....the reason most naija people in the UK cannot work is because many don't have the rights to work. for the nigerians with a work permit, there's no excuse!!! |
ckkris: You're so fixated on ATTRACTING WEALTHY PEOPLE. Can't you people in UK create wealth the way the US, Germany, Japan, South Korea, and others do? You look forward to the oligarchs that steal money from Russia, the Arab world, and Nigeria. Well, your candour is cool.what do you need the wealth for? abramovic's house in chelsea is less than 1 hectare in size...where's the land to display the wealth! the UK is predominantly a conservative city. eat well, be healthy, save some money and life is good!!!! |
50calibre: That is! Those guys are crazy. I once heard a 25 year old Arab guy complaining he can't fly in his proper Lamborghini into the UK because the road are too small to accommodate it. Lolthose guys spend money like the world's going to end - 25 year-olds pushing bugatti veyron of £1.6m just to come and cause noise pollution on london streets just for few weeks and then fly the car back to their base..... madness!! 50calibre: Ok! If you say so, how can I call you a liar. America is great country, probably the best, that i admit a 100% all I'm saying is everyone carves a niche for him/her self, some make it regardless of where they are, and speaking of countries that attract wealthy people, you'd be surprise to know that places like Iceland, Monaco, Switzerland attract more wealthy people ( relative to its size ) than the UShttps://b-i.forbesimg.com/andrewbender/files/2013/06/Top-20-destinations-chart.jpg |
jackbauersballs: My friend finished with Masters in Control Systems Engineering from Uni of Sheffield and ran back to Nigeria thinking she was made...after months of frantic searching, she got a job....in a cold room....selling ice kote for her Aunty...for 15k a month...she's lucky she had the means to come back - many are stuck in naija now and gnashing their teeth in regret. unless you and someone in the senate or in power are on first name terms, there's nothing in nigeria!!!! |
You are funny sha. That you don't agree with me does not give you the right to call me a liar okay. I don't care what you belive, what matters is reality. If you doubt my claim, check my IP. chikena. The issue is not how expensive/cheap the state is. It's my opinion and i'm sticking to it. The way you have relatives that run to the UK is the same way i have relatives that run from the UK to Houston everytime. You probably weren't born when i started travelling so i'll leave it at that.
to be quite frank, you have spewed enough inaccurate statements concerning employment in nigeria. there are no jobs in that country. 40 million naija youths are unemployed - this is why you have riff-raffs in nollywood and the music industry trying to eke a living. majority of these people are graduates of excellent disciplines before channelling their energies into whatever can fetch them money....... naijababe: Only ramadhan?! Abeg take these people to Edgware Rd and Marble Arch to see something every gaddem day of the summer seasonthe month of june was heavy - those super-rich kids from kuwait, oman, brunei, etc flooded everywhere - some of them didn't even bother with the car documents with DVLA before spinning their toys on the road. heaven knows how much money they spent for the few days they were here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAkp6AtncW8 |
50calibre: Lil I don't think you live in Texas, because if you did, you'd know that Texas is one of the cheapest american states, that place is full, its inundated with nigerians, i cant even live in texas, iv got relatives in Maryland, Washington and Arizona and i see how they run to the Uk during the summer ( one of them just left yesterday ) you sure dont sound like someone who lives in Texas. You sound like someone who has an admiration for America and hopes to go there someday.you need to be in knightsbridge the few weeks before ramadan......the arabs flooded the UK like crazy. they flew their sportcars just to come and show off for few days and flew them back..... |
Chillisauce: History has it that the brits and french dont like each other. They term one another arrogant. Maybe it has to do with the war they fought. Well thats not my business, i know who to term as arrogant based on my experience and association with them and i give it to britts.the french people are rude! from the immigration officers to the ordinary citizen, arrogant motherfückers!!! You are an english man visit france and you dont even care to learn to say bonjour but keep lamenting that they should at least have an english worker thy will understandd you. I term that as arrogancewhy won't they? they should have english/french speakers in paris. these fools can speak english and then pretend they cannot! bonjour my arsë!!! |
Chillisauce: I wouldn't know of statistics but talking based on personal experience. Even in place of work, the Bristish always try to be on their own. The French and US are more accommodating to the locals.that's a lie..... the brits are more accommodating when it comes to race....the racial tension in america can be sliced and the average french guy is extremely arrogant!!! Have a drink with a British today, they still stab you at your back tomorrow. And you know what they say in Naija, if I have a drink with you, you are automatically my pallythis is also a lie...... the average british guy stick to the scripts - very loyal people and they have fought against their fellow brits on my behalf!!! |
50calibre: What! Go to the port of Calais in Dover and see how many illegal immigrants are eager to cross over into Britain under a trucksdon't mind the ignoramus...... they hide in trucks, cover themselves in plastic bags so the CO2 detector would not flag their breaths. they try and try till they succeed! |
Chillisauce: I have been to UK couple of times, I can tell you I feel more relax here in France. You would hardly see a full blooded 100% French here, there is a small percentage of immigrant in most of them, which makes them more tolerable and liberal.there's more integration in the UK than france and the US. there have been serious race riots in these 2 countries.....something very rare in the UK. |
Afam4eva: Are you on break. You better stay closer to the royal baby to know when you'll need to pack his sh1t. Your condition is -1. take heart. Where there's a will there's a way.sit there and be chatting nonsense..... don't go & find something to do with your life instead of claiming to be knowledgeable about the happenings in the UK. i am sorry for your bleak future......
You don't need to die. My statement is supported by statistics not just yarns. The fact that 1 out of 20 naija graduates in the UK is able to secure employment (white collar) does not mean it's all ROSY.
you have the intelligence of an unborn foetus.... what is wrong with you semi-illiterates and your uncanny ability to spew nonsense.:...1 in 20 nigerian graduates in the UK are employed? are you out of your mind? yet, it's the money these people in diaspora remit in money transfer that sustains nigerian economy. $9 billion per annum! they must have been digging it from the soil! The rate at which naija UK grads flood OTC in houston every year because of the job situation in the UK speaks numbers. I aint being sentimental. It's the truth. You have a better shot getting meaningful employment in nigeria. It may be a bank job or whatever but you will be able to pay your bills and not have to look over your shoulders!!and yet 40 million of your youths in nigeria are unemployed! |
Afam4eva: It's Coogar and Desola that i pity the most. They won't be privileged to BT Internet again and therefore will be unable to be on Nairaland 24/7 abusing people. Gob bless them sha.says the piss-stained, alcohol-sodden, frustrated UK-reject. how was your trip to the MMA last night? were you able to broach the subject of your planned trip to the UK/US with any of the returnees? did any of them offer to help you? oloshious fellow! |
