Cristalz: In other words, RVP went missing 'cos Rooney did not start. Paired with Welbeck, he is useless.
Ferguson knew this yet went ahead with it anyway, 'cos he desired a non-existent attack. Brilliant. Why didn't I see it? grin
RVP does not need Rooney to perform in any game...he would tell you so himself.
he does - we have played better as an attack with those 2 on the pitch. it's a no brainer, the combined attack of roon and rvp are scary, the 2 of them can drop deep and take the ball or run towards the defenders and cause a scare. look at the tough games we have been involved this season especially at the etihad, citeh had no answer to them.

Nah, I don't think RMD woulda stayed flaccid throughout the 2nd half. I think 2nd half woulda been pacier, and then we woulda seen Rooney and Valencia come on to match the tempo.
in the 70th minute! that's when fergie often remembers changes should be made in a match of that magnitude!

What if Rooney had started and we still crashed out? What would you say then?
A manager knows the players he needs to achieve his goals, and as far as the 1st half was concerned, goals were achieved.
Di Matteo was a clueless wanna-be...can't compare him to Fergie.
that's the point though
if rooney had started and we still crashed then we would have known we were simply not good enough to beat madrid. leaving rooney out would always create the feeling we screwed up! people go into battle with their best ammo. nothing ventured nothing gained! i doubt anyone would have suggested we crashed out because giggs didn't feature.

Good thing you didn't type "twitter exploded when it was announced that Giggs was starting".
it means the same thing - giggs took rooney's position.
van persie was always going to start, welbeck also earned it from the first leg. who else is there? rooney!

Rooney got dropped...how does that directly concern Giggs?
I don't believe Rooney got sacrificed for Giggs so quit blaming Giggs 'cos you want him to quit. If Rooney and RVP were so hot together, why didn't Fergie drop Welbeck? Giggs was useful both in MF and attack, hence his selection. Plus the 1000th sentiment, of course. Nothing to do with Rooney.
fergie is full of sentiments and that killed our dreams.
personally, i don't think giggs should be starting games like this one. he's a passenger at best. the team carries him and not the other way round. the moment a manager puts his selfish interest before his fans then he's asking for trouble. welbeck presses the opposition, he scored a goal in madrid. he deserved the start.

LOL. You got jokes.
Giggs is like Fergie....neither is gonna retire till they go into cardiac arrest on the pitch. grin
BTW, Giggs is still better than Ando. Even Ando knows this.
giggs better than anderson? lololololol
my left cuticle is better than giggs. his hesitation in the first leg cost us. with the goal gaping at the bernebau, giggs refused to shoot and went on a mazy run. anderson in the same position would have certainly buried it. i like giggs too but it's starting to feel like his inclusion is harming the team.

everytime we have lost this season, giggs has been in the line up.

next week will be crazy . .2003 was a great year . . . ." i still believe . ." cool
muki, i saw you rubbing it in last night and this morning that united lost. start praying arsenal don't lose any game for the rest of the season. if they do by accident, you are in soup. i would practically start a carnival on this thread.

Cristalz: Since when does RVP need Rooney to create chances and score goals??
How did he manage when Rooney was out injured? Come on. RVP seems to have dipped in form.
Then again, didn't you notice the guys kept feeding Welbeck? Where was RVP?
rooney assisted all the goals RVP scored in the competition this season. having rooney and rvp on at the same time presents a different problem for mourinho. they would have been more cautious than having ryan giggs - a 40 yr old man.

Whether a game plan is working/not working depends on what you wanna achieve in the first place.
Fergie's style spoke of 'slow, tight 'n steady' and in that light, it sure as hell was working.
question - do you think madrid would have laid down throughout the 2nd half and just accept the ramming from the back? if you don't start rooney as a manager and you eventually crash out, do you not think the manager's tactics has not worked as planned?

di matteo lost his job over a similar gaffe last autumn!

In addition, what makes you think Rooney got dropped so Giggs could play? RVP/Welbeck are more likely culprits.
giggs is not a starter - twitter exploded when it was announced rooney was dropped. no pundit expected it. giggs is too old for this kind of games and to be honest, he doesn't scare anyone. to be fair, he did nothing wrong last night but he wasn't spectacular either. rooney would have given us some bite in the attack.

I think that Rooney and Giggs together woulda made us sharper, not dropping one in favor of the other. They have a near-perfect rhythm together.
giggs? i hope he retires after this.
enough is enough. if fergie cannot trust the budding talents on his bench then he should let them to forge their career elsewhere. anderson, kagawa, must be pondering "wait a minute here, am i really that bad i get dropped for a geriatric"?

Ibime: SAFs lack of midfield warriors cost him in the game. This is the kind of game where two strong central midfielders close up shop and see out the 1-0 win but like someone pointed out there were no such options. . It also requires a change in orientation from an attacking outlook to an ultradefensive one. Chelsea were 1-0 down with 60 minutes to play with 10 men at Camp Nou and didn't even lose the game. 30 mins to see a game out with 10 men should not be too much to ask from Man Utd. Fir starters, I woulda brought on Valencia and Anderson to stiffen things up,
thank you - reacting too late cost fergie!

Cristalz: Don't get too emotional and throw objectivity out the window.
"'In spite of' having Giggs". . .seriously? That statement should be for Van Persie. He was the weakest link last night, not Giggs.
Already said Giggs did nothing wrong on the night and you agreed, so which one you no dey?
He put in a good performance, end of story. He didn't let the team down in any way.
van persie?
we did not create a decent chance for him all night. rooney that was supposed to be his feed-pillar was sat on the bench!

As for the selection, it was unexpected, but we all saw that Fergie had a cautious game plan that was working.
He went for a tight defensive game that left RMD without options, and whoz to say the game wouldn't have ended well if things had gone on that way?
That game plan not only quieted RMD but caused 'em to gift us a goal; that's why we are saying it was okay, not 'cos of the weird reason you gave up there.
it wasn't working - we were leading on aggregate from the first leg so we felt comfortable but there's no rhythm to our play at all. yes, we got a goal in the 2nd half but united were not playing like the united we have been used to. you don't sit a player like rooney on the bench for giggs. giggs cannot put in rooney's work-rate. no one in our attack can actually!

If you're faulting Fergie for failing to respond to life-after-seeing-red, that's one thing which makes sense.
But the Giggs witch-hunting and the critique of Fergie's choice of tactics is another. Both are way off base.
if rooney had played ahead of giggs, would it have weakened us or strengthened us? i mean rooney playing behind van persie and nani on the right plus welbeck on the left......do you not think that would have given us a sharper attacking edge?

dayokanu: Robin van Persie could have been killed, claims Sir Alex Ferguson

In the same vein Arbeloa could have been killed
daft analogy -
ashley williams was never sent off for what was thought could have killed van persie. why was nani sent off for what could have killed arbeola?

dayokanu: What Roy Keane thought about the red card:

I think the referee has actually made the right call. Everyone's upset about it and it's slightly unlucky, but it's dangerous play. Whether he meant it or not is irrelevant. It's dangerous play - it's a red card. You have to be aware of other players on the pitch. Does he think he's going to have 20 yards to himself? Whether it's [a brave decision] or not, it's the right decision. Whether he meant it or not doesn't matter. Nani's a quick boy to go down anyway. He's not the bravest player on the planet."
roy keane is an idiöt
the tool has been sipping on haterade ever since he was kicked out of old trafford! when strikers attempt overhead kick in a crowded box, they don't get sent off for it. isn't that dangerous play? when madrid's keeper fisted vidic's forehead while trying to catch the ball, it's not dangerous play? every tackle on the pitch is a dangerous play - the intent has to come into play.

watching the incident again, it's obvious nani wasn't even tackling, he was attempting to control a ball dropping from a high altitude and you could argue it was arbeola that clattered into nani. nani did not see arbeola - his eyes were on the ball. arbeola saw nani's raised leg before running into him. if anything, arbeola should have been booked. that was a wrong call by every rule of thumb. arguing what a dangerous play is or isn't cannot suffice.....united were robbed!

conspiracy theory....

united fans descended on last night's referee(cuneyt cakir) on twitter and found out he follows ronaldo and real madrid. tons of death threats have been made on his time line. the funniest story is the 18-yr old fan that called police to arrest the referee for sending nani off. grin cheesy

@ nitrogen,

going to a top notch school is the real koko.......
the reason most parents fork millions of naira sending their wards to expensive schools is because they want their kids to interact with the other kids. there are no 2 ways about it. corona will not teach students better than ISL so why pay such exorbitant fees @ corona?
