your comment makes no sense. that's like saying modern civil rights movement is a failure. or modern christianity is a failure.
well yeah things are regressing in some aspects but that doesn't change someone's personal beliefs and convictions of how things ought to be.
Things have definitely gotten better in many aspects too.
i don't expect it to make sense to you....you're a self-confessed feminist!

oh dear feminist - what's the problem this time? bunch of confused lunatics....you guys cannot accept that women cannot both be strong and independent while at the same time being the perpetual victim....which is which? are women strong or are they weak?

yes - it's a gift!
privilege is the closest word i can think of now. if it does not truly come from her mind to give then it's not submission!

aribisala0: Nigerians like freebies!
Taking out their frustration on the wrong people. You hear they are building a new multibillion BANQUET HALL at Aso Rock and keep Quiet. The current one apparently is not big enough for the kind of Banquet the First widow would like to throw. You hear the Perm Sec tell the NASS the budget for food was "NOT ENOUGH" and kept quiet. No budget to support private hospitals and you are talking EMERGENCY. If a man does not eat for one week is that not Emergency? can he then go and eat free at Mr Biggs or the BANQUET HALL at Aso Rock ??

Rather than talk like children can anyone suggest a long term future solution to this situation
yet more obtuse reasoning.....
a man who has not eaten in 6 days can be equated to a pregnant woman needing urgent medical attention? this woman paid 5000 naira and the money was converted into the most senseless expense given her circumstance..........fück me! some of you lots should not be allowed to discuss the weather let alone critical issues that concern life and death of a pregnant mother and her innocent child
Family › Re: What Does 'submission' Of Women In Marriages Mean Exactly? by coogar: 2:16am On Dec 02, 2012
all4naija: I do get it.
no you don't!

i cannot force my wife to be submissive to me. she has to give it to me by herself. for instance, obedience is just doing what you are told to do even if you don't want to. parents would tell their son to go wash a car by 7am - the son might not like waking up early for such tasks. he would squeeze his face, moan and groan but he would still complete the task - that's just obedience, it's not submission!

adminlo: As a healthcare official , the doctor owes them a duty of care at least to stabilize her. Such wanton destruction of live by omission Of duty is tantamount to murder. This is Nigeria where people just talk , suffer and smile. Nigerian public is the most docile, inept, dull, stupid, selfish and foolish set of people . It pains me the few clique can hold to ranson 160 millio people or a gorvernor can sentence its people to so much suffering . I was at the computer village in ikeja on friday and I saw a long queue of about 2km constantly there from 10am when I arrived to 7pm when I left. They were waiting patiently (complaining though but doing nothing as usual) for the tricycles!! They were even fights over it . Govt. Is meant to serve us not to order us around without providing enough alternatives.

Back to our issue, I propose a name and shame blog where we post the name of the doctors that commit such kinds of crimes. It is not illegal and it is not defamatory. We will publish the doctors name, his hospital's name and address, victim's name and story .
This will alert nigerians to the kind of doctors he is and then nigerians will for once take action and not patronize them.
Some hospitals provide free medical care as part of their social responsibilty and also as a percentage of their gross revenue.
They should also be written on the page as well and rewarded with great patronage from nigerians
.
i support this 100%.....
let's name and shame these incompetent bastards.....

this thread has gone to the dogs - what started off as a brilliant thread has veered into a complete nuthouse. there's a difference between being submissive and just being obedient! people are mixing obedience with submission. submission is a gift - obedience is forced!

thegoodjoehunt: It is like construction business. Her money could only pay for registration. So that is what she got.

We are in a complete mess in Nigeria. Same thing with Lawyers, bankers etc. No ethics. Almost everyone plays God.
in a nutshell, registration was far more important than keeping her alive? it shall not be well with this hospital. i hope the doctor and everyone else who allowed this woman to die like a chicken cop the worst strains of bird flu and swine flu before christmas!

toluene12: I'm sure nobody is giving excuses for what went wrong, instead we are looking at a permanent panacea to this reccuring crisis in out healthcare sector and to put a stop to this cash out of pocket health care delivery.
do nigerian doctors not understand the meaning of emergency?
this is quite different from someone who came to the hospital begging to be treated for syphilis or gonorrhoea - all those can wait few days. this was a woman who needed urgent treatment - her safety and especially the child she's carrying should take priority and common sense dictates they should be treated - even if its first aid.

Expecting doctors to play santa claus every now n then is not the solution, we can only appeal to their conscience.
Most nations have moved beyond all these awkward practices decades ago, and its high time nigeria takes that step in the right direction vis a vis universal healthcare coverage.
Nobody should insist we remain in the cave age.
if the doctors can't play santa claus - they should rot in hell and leave the profession for people who care. her 5000 naira would have helped a bit or stabilised her condition but these rogues took her money for registration - what the fück was that for? couldn't they have used that 5000 to start some preliminary treatment that would stabilise her?

Baby mama: You don't have to degenerate to your gutter ways with name callings just because your points are moot
That is not necessary
It is amazing how a supposed adult would read without understanding
go and sit down, you disgrace humanity with the words coming out of your mouth. as a woman, i expected some degree of sensitivity from you. one day soon, you would get pregnant, need medical care - think about it! the pain another woman had to go through because of 20,000 and yet you talk about gutter language when you have ptyalised words one would expect from a gutter mind - the mind boggles!

Did you miss the above from that post before jubilation?
The woman was put on a group two list that had her as the only patient,is that not clearly a woman that had no chance at the transplant
I am done with you since you are unable to carry on without carrying on as an area boy.
Knock yourself out bro!
stop being obtuse.....
organs were scarce - there were many people ahead of her on the list! her case wasn't given a priority status because she had no right to be in the country in the first place and there were patients who needed the same thing she wanted on the waiting list.....
Health › Re: Pregnant Woman Dies In Port-harcourt Hospital Because Of Deposit by coogar: 1:42am On Dec 02, 2012
ballabriggs: Organs were scarce was the main thing. Call the UK names, however, when it comes to human life they don't joke with it.

In this case there were also people who needed it as much as she did and priority had to be given to those who pay for the service. I am sure if it was not scarce she would have been treated.
i used to diss the NHS before - until i saw how things work in America...
jeeez, i promised never to curse NHS ever again. the brits don't know what they have with NHS. my guy, health wise - America is shyte!

ballabriggs: It was an attempt to cheat the system which they knew quite alright- abi dem think say oyibo no get sense. But even at that she was still placed on a waiting list. Make dem leave their own people that pay for the service to die? Priority had to be given ahead of her.
and i am sure NHS would have treated her if organs were available.......she was just unfortunate - and her case was far from being an emergency. she must have known of he heart condition way before it became a problem.
Health › Re: Pregnant Woman Dies In Port-harcourt Hospital Because Of Deposit by coogar: 1:27am On Dec 02, 2012
ballabriggs: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4994026.stm

She was placed on a waiting list and there were people before her. I doubt she did not know she needed a heart transplant before coming to the UK. Before it degenerates to that stage signals suppose done dey now.
thank you very much o
it wasn't even because she had no money - she was on a fücking waiting list - the only snag was the priority given to her? hahahahaha - and this is what baby mama wants to compare to a pregnant woman needing an emergency treatment?

o........k!

Baby mama: You should go around Nigerian hospitals.and give that ordinary 80 pounds to waiting patients in emergency rooms rather than talk about it
That irdinary 80 pounds is what that doctor needs to perform that ordinary care to this patient and pay ordinary salaries to his staff
hahahaha - and that's the reason they took 5000 from her for registration fee?
is that death registration or what? keep defending rubbish in the name of trying to win an argument!

That NHS doctor is on a full salary whether he sees patients or not and whether they pay or not
The garrison doctor is not under such salary structure
His sweat is his salary
Do you know how many patients besiege Nigerian private clinics with the same story of no money or will pay later
You expect him to attend to them all abi and eat sand at the end of the day
Take sentiments off and reason with your head not your heart
are you deliberately trying to be obtuse or you are naturally daft?
who cares how many patients besiege nigerian hospitals for free treatment? this one is an exceptional case cos if involves mother and child - the emergency also meant the patient had no time to rally round for money even if they could provide it....why can't this evil doctor just proceed with the treatment instead of letting 2 people die because of 20,000 naira that cannot buy a 2nd hand blackberry!
Health › Re: Pregnant Woman Dies In Port-harcourt Hospital Because Of Deposit by coogar: 1:19am On Dec 02, 2012
tatiana009: Do you think the doctor owns the hospital? Won't he pay for any drugs used? Do you know how many time doctors are faced with such situations? If he pays 20,000 for such emergency patients 5times in a month and 3 default that means in a month he owes how much. That is the problem, this woman's case isn't an exception its a regular thing. The situation in the Country is so bad most people cannot afford health care and doctors simply cannot pay for such a magnitude of people. As for him turning into a farmer , o boy if that was the case we won't even have any doctors in Nigerian hospitals. Why do you think most Nigerian doctors go to other countries. Most doctors can barely afford to take care of their own families!
that's pathetic!
what a shyte country - poverty has ravaged the country so much that cases like this has now become the norm. i weep for nigeria! to add insult to injury, they took 5000 from her husband for registration fee - who can tell me the meaning of the registration fee of someone they knew was going to die?

Baby mama: You are the one totally missing it!
There are tons of similarities in both cases and incidentally they both happen to be females too and the end result was death due to untreated medical conditions
Both women needed care
Both women did not meet the criteria for care in both places
Both women died
Had Ms Alabi paid the cost of a transplant she would have had a chance to live and take care of her new borns
Had the PH woman paid the deposit, she would have had a chance too
Same thing
No difference
don't argue against logic......
both women needed care - one was an emergency case involving a child and the other was not an emergency! ms alabi had all the time to rally round for money to pay for her surgery. the woman in PH did not have such luxury - besides, she was in her own country with her own people and yet was left to die because of ordinary £80.

there's a universe of difference between the 2 cases!
Health › Re: Pregnant Woman Dies In Port-harcourt Hospital Because Of Deposit by coogar: 1:12am On Dec 02, 2012
Baby mama: Didn't you read that she needed a heart transplant to save her life, does it get more emergent than that?
I thought you folks it would be free in London
So now you see that even in London They had a criteria before giving out care and this woman was left to die
Are English doctors also the monsters you are calling these Nigerian ones?
Witout baiting an eyelid you have already excused the British ones
Typical Nigian mentality
yet again, comparing apples and oranges
her case was not an emergency - she fell ill before it was diagnosed she had heart problems. that's why there was ample time to screen her immigration status before commencing the operation. this woman's operation would have run to hundreds of thousands of pounds - it's quite different to a pregnant woman needing care and was abandoned. NHS would never do that! the nigerian woman that had quintuplets on emergency was treated free of charge....when it involves children, their health takes priority!

this is NHS policy in case you missed it.....
Urgent but non-emergency treatment such as maternity care is provided regardless of residence status or ability to pay, but hospitals must take steps to recover debts.
Health › Re: Pregnant Woman Dies In Port-harcourt Hospital Because Of Deposit by coogar: 1:07am On Dec 02, 2012
tatiana009: You do know that 20,000 is what some people use to pay rent! 20,000naira is like 2million naira to some people even doctors!
so this doctor does not have 20,000 to save 2 lives?
it's not like the drugs/services needed weren't already in place - it's not like they were going to use the money to purchase the drugs needed for the operation - so what's the excuse? like i have said - if 20k was too steep a price to pay by this doctor, then he should give up his profession and become a subsistent farmer!
Health › Re: Pregnant Woman Dies In Port-harcourt Hospital Because Of Deposit by coogar: 1:00am On Dec 02, 2012
Baby mama: Had Ese been able to pay for a heart ,she would have had the transplant so the people saying healthcare is free in the UK for all are not being truthful
is that an emergency case?
the amount of money needed for her operation is £80?
why are you comparing apple to oranges?

if the woman in naija was billed 2 million naira - one can understand! but to place 20,000 naira over the lives of 2 people is a disgrace to the green and white colours of our flag!

yes - your government should provide basic amenities....i am not your government! the doctor should have attempted to save the woman's life - that's the most ethical thing to do. save life and ask for money later. it turned out the husband has a brother abroad who would have wired some money to the hospital.....so in any way you wanna look at it. the doctor made a horrible decision!

helpee: google the woman's case and come back to apologise you fool. It was debated at the house self. I hope you know you are talking rubbish.
you are a tool.....

You keep mentioning UK. Do you think I can go into any hospital in the UK and get free emergency care because the doctor takes care of it?
in emergency situation - you would get treated even before they ask for your name and address. that's standard! if you walk in there yourself then there might be issues of your NHS card and blah blah blah

I hope you know that your rants here ain't gonna change nothing. So let me ask you what have you done personally to ensure free emergency care?
Have you ever been to any Nigerian hospital and paid patients fees?
you are a tool......
i should be the one paying for patients in nigeria - what is your government doing? what have YOU done to sensitize your deaf government to listen to the suffering masses? heck, what has nigeria done for me as a country?

Or do you think that it's part of the doctors training to offer free services?
Maybe you should start with JAMB and spend 6 years in school and come out and offer free services.
the ethos of a good doctor is to save lives - if he cannot do that basic task then he should pack up, go to the market and buy farm implements. he's better off in the farm planting cash crops!

Do you know that bad roads cost us more lives than this? Or do you know how many lives early marriages cost us? What have you done to address those?
You should throw that your 'what if it's your sister' rant into the dustbin cos its not going to save anybody.
so coogar is supposed to address child marriages and bad roads in nigeria? was it me you voted for in the last elections? you have the brain power of a slug!

helpee: u must have been sleeping when the whole of UK was annoyed that a Nigerian woman took advantage of NHs to do an emergency CS and ran away witout paying. U know how much the money cost? Millions in naira just for CS that I do for 60K and people won't pay. And u know what? If such should happen again, NHS will start demanding for deposit from nigerians b4 treatment. Just one case and the whole of UK was enraged. Imagine this is what they do to me everyday
that was an exceptional case.....
the woman had quintuplets - she incurred a bill of £200,000 and even with that, she still got her visa extended to take care of her children. she wasn't arrested or threatened cos she couldn't pay - that's how it works.

after that incident, thousands of nigerians have used emergency services in the NHS without paying a dime and no NHS would require anyone to pay deposit when health service is free. so get your facts right before spewing nonsense on a public forum!

It's not like these doctors are that well paid themselves. Its a sad situation and we should all be fighting for national health insurance. That's the type of thing we should be protesting about.
