dayokanu: I am waiting and hoping for the time man Utd would implement this cos I am certain they would be humiliated

I am interested in how Nani and Evra cover the left flanks.

Valencia might be able to cover the Right side but not Nani

But there is no way Aimar would play with 2 strikers without having vulnerabilities in defence.

If you insist on playing Aimar and 2 strikers, then you have to eliminate one winger or go with one striker
with 3 centre backs, there would be 2 defensive midfielders shielding them.
2 wingers flanking the defensive midfielders and 3 rotating forward players
rooney is a tireless worker anyway.

aimar would chill n the moment united break n get the ball to him.
he can be trusted to play a slide-rule pass into hernandez's path.
it's so easy in the sense that most teams use a lone striker these days.

why do teams mark a lone striker with 4 defenders. it does not make sense.

You mean Aimar would play as a false 9?
it depends.
the 4-man midfield can either be flat or assume a diamond shape.
aimar n rooney can also drop behind hernandez(thus having 2 creative players behind the front man).
3-4-3 = 3-4-1-2 = 3-4-2-1.

onatisi: so mister londoner what is the common sense in what u have just highlighted.a man has stolen over 200million pounds and in ur own magnificient solomon wisdom u feel four and half years is the best the uk goverment can give?what about the innocent ppl he has robbed of their future or sent to the world beyond.anyway it isnt ur fault it is the nigerian goverment that is to blame.if he was to be a chinnesse he would have killed long ago.
this is the united kingdom, not the banana republic called nigeria.
if a serial killer goes on a spree and murders 40,000 nursery school kids, the worst he can get is life imprisonment.
there's no capital punishment.

ibori embezzled money, he did not commit a violent crime. he didn't peddle drugs.
human rights groups actually think his sentence was too harsh. he stole money(more than
half of it would be recovered) so what are you harping about?

dayokanu: Do you also notice that Ozil Sneijer, VdV and Mata play behind one striker and not two like you stated in your line up?
i do! they play 4-2-3-1 or 4-2-1-3.
there's a man in the hole playing behind a lone striker.

in 3-4-3 system.
the man in the hole is a false 9 flanked by 2 wing forwards cos one
defender has been sacrificed at the back to compensate in the attack.

guardiola has been using this system for a year now.
napoli also used it often this season and it works for them.

freshera: The UK may have collected money from him.

if not, why will they reduce his sentencing from 25yrs to 13yrs just because he built stadium in his state?

Is that not part of his job in the first place?
see ignorance at it's sterling quality from fellow nigerians.

james ibori got his sentence reduced to 13 yrs because he pleaded guilty before the trial.
when criminals cop a plea before a long n boring trial that wastes the time of the judge, the jury, lawyers and public funds,
they get their sentences reduced by 1/3. it's a standard practise in the uk.

so he got 13 yrs. . . . .
the way it works is one only gets to spend half of the sentence behind bars and the
rest in his home if he's deemed fit enough not to cause the public any harm.
so ibori's 13 yrs sentence is effectively 6.5 yrs in prison and 6.5 yrs in his home.
if he commits any offence after he's out, he would be sent back to prison to complete the rest of his sentence.

but ibori has been arrested almost 2 yrs ago. he has spent 2 yrs behind bars in remand
that 2 yrs would be deducted from the 6.5 yrs he would spend in prison which makes it 4.5 yrs in prison.
this is the way it works for the rich, poor, men and women in the united kingdom.
so no money exchanged hands. the law is the law.

montelik: Siggurdson would be a nice depth, squad signing. But we need proven quality not just depth in the center. We are falling backwards European wise and we have a lot of catching up to do, particularly in midfield. None of the other side are standing still. We need an immediate injection of quality, if we want to talk of winning in Europe, not to mention being one to powerhouses.
like we should have signed cannavaro and nesta in 2006 instead of evra and vidic, right?
as we can all see, evra and vidic(2 no-mark defenders) eventually became shyte for us

mbulela: the way you throw insults around make it difficult to have a discussion with you.
Why do you think i am more in need of an education on any topic whatsoever than yourself? Dude, just stick to the topic and cut out the snide comments (you can exchange it with those who are interested in such).
I have long read Gary's views and as much as he is an intelligent pundit (i don't know what qualifies him to be the best in the solar system), i do not completely agree with him on this.
what is it you don't agree with? that cheating shouldn't be in football?
feck me, what's with this political correctness in the game? players should not gain advantage for their teams?
how's going to the ground easily different from the players who stand in front of de gea to obstruct him from catching balls
from corner kicks?

how's going to the ground different from players who shout "our ball" when they know for sure they made the last contact
with the ball before the ball went out of touch. players claim everyball as theirs until the referee rules whose ball is it?
aren't those cheats? why didn't mata tell martin atkinson the ball hadn't crossed the line against tottenham. he wheeled away
celebrating knowing fully well it wasn't a goal likewise john terry. you think he hasn't cheated?

The issue of diving vs. 'making the most of the contact' are all a matter of semantics. Cheating is the name of the game.
I agree with Gary that diving is endemic in the game but to say that Young is entitled to fling himself to the ground because the defender stuck his leg out, just does not work for me. I guess defenders should just run out of the box as soon as strikers arrive because there will be contact and automatically penalties. That 95% of players do it does not justifies it.
yet, you still don't understand what gary was saying.
the truth is - strikers would try and gain advantage if the opportunity avails itself. it's not cheating, it's being smart.
when the players refuse to go down, the referees don't give it. danny welbeck was fouled against wigan, he was pulled back
but he didn't go to the ground. referee waved "play on"

going to the ground after a slight contact is a way of letting the referee know they have been fouled.
referees see these tackles but if the player does not go down, they don't give it. imagine valencia racing into the box
and a defender throws a tackle in his path and valencia skips over it and keep running. would the referee stop the play? no!

but if valencia decides not to jump over the tackle and he gets hit n go down, the referee would produce a card.
the issue here is very complex. how do we know who has dived and who hasn't? sometimes players even anticipate the tackle
and they jump out of the way but the defender has already withdrawn his leg and it makes the striker look like a diver.

going to ground is a grey area - damned if you do, damned if you don't!

Did you hear Gary answer YES to whether it is a dive?
he said it was a definite penalty and ashley made the most of the contact.

You are obviously trying to play it narrow and everyone knows the solution to this is simple, play it wide, make the field bigger with wide men and lets see how Nani copes tracking back
narrow? you see valencia and nani on the pitch and you think the formation is narrow? abegggi

The solution to this is to get a very good right winger like Robben, Ronaldo and Dimaria and it would melt like ice in the Sahara
By the time Lahm/Robben, Alvez/Messi double on that Left side, No one would tell you to bring in Evra with instant ALACRITY
di maria won't walk past nani and i can bet valencia would destroy ronaldo or robben.

When Barca try their 3 man defence, they have either Abidal or Adriano as pseudo LB and Alves who plays a Right Midfieder can easily track back
but in your formation who would be manning the LB? Nani or Evans?
johnny evans would cover that role. evans started his career as a left back!

what is ozil, sneijder, van der vaart and mata(under roberto di matteo)?

Toni Kroos 15yrs ago would have been a 10 that would have no defensive responsibility. Now he has to play deep
kroos is technically inept to be a 10. he doesn't see a pass quickly.

Ozil 15yrs ago would never go close to the wings, Nowadays Madrid atimes play him on the flanks despite his not too great speed. If not for his ridiculous talent, He would have been benched in todays game
ozil is versatile. he plays as a 10 often for real madrid when ronaldo and di maria play on the flanks.

Ibime: Help me with the Mathematics. . .

90/21 = a pass every 4.21 minutes in final third for Kroos.

70/9 = a pass every 7.80 minutes in final third for Ozil.
you are a big idiot. the frequency of the passes means f@ck all.
the accuracy is the key. when ozil had the ball, he made better use of it
than toni kroos. bayern are a possession team, madrid are very direct(they don't
fanny around with the ball playing within themselves).

so you help me with the maths. 9/11 or 21/27.
i have never seen a dumb ijaw bow until i met ibime.
who gives a rat's ass how many passes a player makes?
it is what you do with the passes that counts.

Lets not talk about the fact that Kroos played deeper, and controlled volume of possession in his own half and in the middle (areas in which Ozil doesnt even venture) and still bested him passing wise in the final third.
kroos did not play any deeper. schweini and gustavo were the defensive shield but kroos did nothing.
every ball was channelled to the flanks(robben and ribery). they were the creators. kroos ko, kriss kross ni.
na so una dey hype nonsense.

Kroos dominated possession completely and protected the ball a lot better than Ozil who lost it very often with his physical weakness, whilst Kroos received the ball in tight spaces and wriggled out of it.
kroos did not dominate possession. his team is a possession team. that is how they play.
madrid are more direct than bayern munich. jeeez, it's like expecting carrick and arteta to have
the same number of passes. it's not going to happen but carrick would have more accuracy with his
passes than arteta.

Im sure if you look at the stats, Kroos completed twice as many passes as Ozil. If Im lying, post the stats (since you seem to have access).
because bayern munich are a possession team. dayokanu would lecture you about that.
they make a lot of safety square passes when a simple long ball would suffice.
the most important passes are the ones in the final third as both midfielders played directly behind their centre forwards.
passes made in the final third are the most difficult to attempt as there are markers sniffing danger left n right.
ozil had 82% pass accuracy in the final third, kroos had a disappointing 77% in the final third.

ozil scored, kroos didn't.
if ozil was a bayern player, kroos would be on the bench. grin

created 3 chances. one of them a slide rule pass to benzema that neuer tipped over the bar in the 1st half.

toni kroos(same position as ozil)had no shot on target or off target. all his attempts were blocked.

kroos could only complete 21 out of the 27 passes he attempted in the final third(wasteful).

jose already got his away goal, he took ozil out early for marcelo, took benzema out for granero.
would jose do that @ the bernebau with champions league football in sight?

dayokanu - task your brain cells.
bayern munich have nothing to play for again in the bundesliga. their crunch game was last weekend
when dortmund sodomized them. jose's crunch match is this weekend. he has to conserve resources.

chic2pimp: I disagree with you there. I really do see Bayern progressing for two reasons

1) Madrid face Barca at the Nou Camp this weekend and somehow feel that tie would take it's toll both physically and emotionally(which could only get worse if they so happen to loose that game). Bayern on the other hand have all but given up on their title chase.

2) I don't see this Madrid side keeping a clean sheet. Not when they have to come out and chase the game and also with the Little Matter of Robbery to contend with
and it hasn't occurred to you this is the reason jose took off his attacking outlets for marcelo, granero, etc?
you said madrid face barca this weekend.....you mean barca are free till then or their own game against chelsea
won't take a bigger toll on them than it would do real madrid? this one-sided punditry amazes me.

ddippset: now that was what we call a big game. not athletico madrid. as usual ronaldo anonymous.
ronaldo provided the assist ozil scored from - yes, he's missing!

donigspain: Am a madrid fan but I must say that mourinho's last 10mins tactical approach was a failure. Why was marcelo even brought into the match? To play the role of Ozil? To make the defence more rigid? Am just not happy at all but all the same it was a good match and we got away with a goal. The return leg at Santiago Bernabeu will be a cracker as we must win by a 2 goal margin.
madrid play el classico this weekend. attacking players had to be protected.
mourinho has already gotten what he came for - an away goal!
his priorities lie else where(for now).
I have a feeling madrid will finish the job at the bernabeu.
they will cremate bayern munich in spain.

this result is like arsenal 2-1 barcelona.
only for barcelona to win 4-0 in spain.

mourinho stopped attacking after they equalized.
he's gotten what he wants.
