The subject of this thread was culled from a Vanguard article published today online. Below are a few excerpts from the post: Like charity, Buhari’s anti-corruption must begin at home in the APC if it is to be credible. However, Buhari is not inclined to prosecute his friends. Instead, he came up with a pronouncement that virtually rubbished his anti-corruption posture. He said: “Whoever that is indicted of corruption between 1999 to the time of swearing-in, would be pardoned. I am going to draw a line, anybody who involved himself in corruption after I assume office, will face the music.” When asked how he was going to get funds to revitalise the economy, Buhari stated that he was going to get all corrupt past leaders and officials cough out their stolen money. This was nothing but a nonsensical policy. It is bizarre and odd for Buhari to think he can run Nigeria, revamp the educational system for example, by recovering stolen money. Where will he get this money from? Who will give it to him? Would such recovered money not amount to a storm in the teacup? But now that he has dumped this anti-corruption charade in favour of a blanket pardon for the corrupt, it is clear that political reality is beginning to erode Buhari’s highfalutin campaign grandstanding. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/buhari-and-the-lion-of-bourdillon/ |

candy:I think you missed the point. That is what PDP is saying by this advert. That the APC should not throw stones when they live in a glass house. That the APC says the government is rife with corruption which they want to fight, when they themselves are built on personality pillars of corruption. |
CAMNEWTON4PRES:You are right. My dad is Nigerian and I refer to it as "grandeur mirage". It is in this country that self-confidence and extreme folly have successfully allied themselves to form a very successful marriage amongst a vast amount of the citizenry. A marriage you would otherwise have thought impossible |
It is interesting that certain Nigerians have suggested our president is clueless and that the solution is Buhari. The president pointed out (amongst other things) that the economy has increased and become the biggest in Africa during this administration asking... "Can you do that without planning?" However, from the evidence before us, it would seem that Buhari is really the clueless one. He has never explained how he intends to do anything. Never spoken intelligently on any of our issues. Even in the town hall events held by the APC, his input has been ominously absent. Even the APC does not trust Buhari enough to put him on the spot in the town hall meetings. On the other hand, the president has been able to engage the press on all issues presented and has recorded daylight-clear success in important areas like the popular corruption area. Over 60,000 federal ghost workers eliminated. Fertilizer scam crushed/destroyed. Coming from the "clueless" point of view, and comparing between the two candidates, it happens to be Buhari (and the picture below) that quickly comes to mind whenever that word is mentioned. https://punch.cdn.ng/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Muhammadu-Buhari-360x225.jpg |

mcquin:And that summarizes your utter disrespect for the laid down Nigerian process. You and people like you. |
omenka:I find it hard to recall when or where you heard me claim that Jonathan was as popular as JFK. Since your post here is chiefly based on that imagination of yours, I find it even more difficult to find substance in your expense of words. Back to the issue... how can we reconcile Buhari's claim to integrity with his determination to popularly, blatantly and in broad day light just refuse to comply with the laid down requirements? |
mikolo80:But we can see how he became a general without WAEC. In his file, the military can still not find his WAEC but a recommendation letter from his principal stating “...I consider that he will pass Maths, English and three other subjects." http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/01/army-speaks-buharis-certificates/ What does that tell anybody? The question is did he ever go back to do the examination? |
mcquin:Firstly, you don't firstly allow the masses to choose. You firstly ensure only qualified interested candidates contest. Secondly, if you or the APC needs anyone to convince them that blatantly refusing to comply with the country's laid down requirements in vying for the top office is setting a bad example to the rest of the country, it is no wonder you are deeply disrespected by many and your call for change only feels like a fraud. Thirdly, what Buhari did is clearly classified as perjury under the Nigerian penal code http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perjury_in_Nigeria#Classification_of_perjury_under_Nigerian_law So beyond whether he had his certificate or not, his actions now get into the zone of punishable crime under the penal code. The question is... How can we reconcile all these with his claims to be forthrigh and a man of integrity? |
mikolo80:It is simply the laid down requirement. And somehow he cannot fulfill it. Do you think we knew all these years that he did not have his WAEC? His failure to clear that issue has painted him in bad light and for somebody who supposedly abhors the breaking of rules, his choice not to do the right thing (either comply or step down) cannot be reconciled with the person he wants us to believe he is |
Just wondering what happens to territory within Nigerian recaptured by Chadian soldiers. I wonder if they will be reluctant to give it over since they fought Boko Haram in order to get it safe again. I hope they will act properly considering that we (Nigeria) have fought in other West African countries and saved them from their terrorists and never tried to lay claim on territory. |

It is hard that being the man of integrity that Buhari claims to be, he does not consider it appropriate to step down from the presidential race on account of his failure to meet one of the basic requirements for running (provision of his secondary school cert). How does he intend to ensure Nigerians comply with specified requirements on all levels when he popularly failed to comply with specifications that applied to him? How won't they make light of his efforts (or even laugh at him) when he tries to enforce compliance considering we are talking about Nigerians, whose chronic desire to cut corners in processes is well known? |
Take Kwankwaso out of the list. Any democrat that throws abuses around like a market woman does not treat his office with enough respect for him to be be honoured with more. Take Rochas out of the list (for the simple reason that for all his good heart, he is a clown) |

I may understand what they are saying but I think they are using the term "brain death" wrongly. Retired Gen. Buhari may not be as sharp as he was when younger (actually, he may be slowing) but that is not really brain death. By the way, I do not support Buhari. I am pro PDP for the presidential elections. |
I read the press statement by the publicity secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed. He talked about how he believes the PDP wants to derail democracy in Nigeria and then went on to list the evil plots he is sure the PDP has decided to carry out soon. The first on the list: "There is a plot to transfer a humongous amount of money into the bank account of the INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, and then claim that the money came from Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC in order to justify the ongoing plan to sack Prof. Jega so he won’t organize the elections." Wow! Wow! and very wow! I just couldn't help laughing when I saw this and became convinced a "humongous" amount of money was actually transferred from Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Prof. Jega, and having convinced themselves this information would come out soon, it would seem this is their chosen form of defense against the revelation that is to come. How can a bank falsely record "humongous" transfers from one client instead of another? What is the actual process that leads to the actual crediting of the receiver's account? |
I do not know how it happens to be that gov CRA's monumental failures get ignored as he points fingers at others, trying to bring them down. At the beginning of (and far into Amaechi's) tenure, he poured so much of Rivers State funds and time into the Greater Port Harcourt project. That project was criticized but we wouldn't have minded if it worked. All of a sudden, the govt stopped talking about it and everyone too. For all the funds put in over the years, we do not see any results (except of course the availability of the new stadium which has proven useful during the election rallies). The question is what has happened to the Greater PH project? Does Amaechi's government admit it has failed on that project (after 8 years huge funds allocation)? Why does Amaechi not mention this as one of his achievements? I personally do not think it was an intelligent project. |
vicadex07:That the Haramites did not factor in the difficulty that would be associated with voting within their region when they began their "impossible to govern" mission does not convert the presidency into their sponsor automatically . |
sincerenigerian:A bomb went off in Gombe just minutes after Jonathan left the venue |
A Facebook account with the name Mujahid Dokubo-Asari allegedly belonging to Former Niger delta militant Asari Dokubo has the below post on it https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=785411328194335&set=a.368295273239278.78914.100001764261434&type=1

midolian:It actually takes an amount of stupidity to know that 1. The Boko Haramites have to proceed from their place of origin (and across Nigeria) for them to get to the south 2. The Haramites have tried it in the past blasts (as we easily recall foiled bomb blasts in Imo State plus convoy of boko haramites caught moving en mass into the east) 3. The Boko Haram people have to move through the Igbo-speaking areas of the east before they get to the south south and it is in the igbo-speaking east that they are most hated and most easily detected by ordinary civilians, as they easily stand out as misfitting, non-igbo-speaking/understanding northerners. 4. Buhari cried out last year when efforts against Boko Haram intesified, that a fight against Boko Haram was a fight against the north. 5. The Boko Haram does not have supply solid enough to supply it across the country (from the North to the south) 6. Indeed, they do not have numbers formidable enough to stretch themselves across Nigeria? It takes an amount of stupidity to know this and still spew here the above-quoted garbage. But the truth is I know that you are not really stupid. You just have a personal relationship with fraudulence |
$1.48billion is quite big but the difference between $1.48billion and $20billion or $40billion is much bigger. I think stealing has been going on in the NNPC anyway. This has always been a justifiable long forgone conclusion by the populace. |
While I do not know how authentic the photos are, I do not think (nor have I heard) of Boko Haram detonating bombs anywhere or anytime around Buhari's rallies The APC campaign rallies don't even seem to contemplate the possibility as they display the confidence of people who know they will not be attacked. It would seem clear that Boko Haram is anti-government and has a soft spot for the APC and Buhari, something that both Buhari and Boko Haram seem to know |
AIT is currently airing APC's Town Hall meeeting. A few things to note: 1. It is Osibanjo speaking The APC figures Osibanjo is a better engager of the public. Better suited to present and engage, which turns out to be true. 2. PDP needed to air an anti-Buhari documentary. AIT sold them the airtime. There was outrage by some people saying they are being one-sided when they were only doing their business (selling broadcast airtime). The fact AIT is showing this should give people a better understanding of the interests of the media houses. Their business is centered around the use and sale of airtime. 3. The APC refused to appear in a presidential debate, citing AIT's alleged leaning towards the PDP as the reason for boycotting. If this was really so, why do they air on AIT? Why approach AIT to broadcast their alternative to the debates they have run away from? The program is currently not airing on Channels. |
I watched the video on Channels TV and I thought that it was the PDP tearing Obasanjo's card when he returned it |
cuteoly:It is not a matter of Jonathan gaining from the corrupt people. When Goodluck came in, he knew he would shake up the place too much (and make it difficult for him to lead) if he started going after the corrupt people. Actually, they would have begun fighting him from the start. Let's face it, it's mainly a crowd of corrupt people constituting our polity. There was no way Goodluck would have come out that way (with guns blazing). He chose however, to eliminate corruption in such a way that no one would feel singled out. That is why he chose to end subsidy - instead of just clamping down on those found guilty of messing things up. To eliminate Ghost workers, he implemented the INTEGRATED PAYROLL AND PERSONNEL INFORMATION SYSTEM (IPPIS), eliminating 40,000 ghost workers. This way, no one is fished out for this fraud that has been going on for years. Without having conflicts with anyone, they are all flushed away from the system. Can you imagine how much money is being saved (40,000 federal workers' salaries) every month? After 12 months, what does that amount to? The same thing has been applied to the agricultural sector in the distribution of fertilizer. Now, the farmers are getting their fertilizer and although they didn't go after the thieves that have been stealing for years, the loot is now out of their reach. This method just puts the money out of the reach of the thieving people in authority. Unfortunately, because we cannot appreciate this, we fail to see that all we need to do is find more ways to implement this in more and more parts of our polity and we would have dealt more heavy blows to corruption in Nigeria. I believe this is what president Goodluck Jonathan asssumed would be apparent to us all but as it turns out, while accusing him of being dumb, it would seem he is more intellectually advanced than his critics, who just went ahead and criticized him for saying he was fighting corruption with technology. The more I look into the matter, the less respect I have for those that jumped into the fray and criticized him on account of that statement. |
egift:It would seem that on every issue that the APC or its candidate is found wanting, the supporters' defense is a robotic repetition that we should forget trivial issues and concentrate on issues that that matter. Military does not have Buhari's certificate but he swore an affidavit that they did - they say leave that trivial issue They scream and shout change but the only opportunity for them to articulate the change they purport and show its superiority to what already exists (the debate) they deprive themselves and the rest of the public of. They say leave that matter and concentrate on real issues. The man says he will fight corruption but is heavily surrounded by very know and very corrupt Nigerian politicians - they say leave that matter and concentrate on the relevant matter. It is my believe that only foolish people will take serious, people who insist that the serious issues are not issues at all. |
