donwizzy7:Paprika is not like Inception. Inception is like Paprika. |
anonymouskay:Very true. I remember watching Serial Experiments Lain and thinking "you could have conveyed the same message in like half the number of episodes". Even Angel's Egg, as short as it was still managed to waste several minutes on dead air and panning shots. This isn't even limited to only anime. Blade Runner 2049, had this same problem. It had a great movie buried somewhere within its 2 hour 44 minute run time but still flopped. Why? Maybe because we don't need minute long panning sequences for establishing shots, maybe we don't need to spend 10 minutes watching a character go to a place and retrieve an object without incident. At the end of the day, when these movies or anime fail to do well commercially, it's easy for elitists to blame audiences when the truth is that there are obvious filmmaking flaws in a lot of these "intellectual" projects. |
IMAliyu:Amazing animation is an understatement. |
donwizzy7:What have you been waiting for? |
donwizzy7:I don't see how Erased is an intellectual anime. It's good but not particularly intellectual and it doesn't try to be. |
anonymouskay:Flip Flappers animation is what got me through to the end. The anime's greatest flaw is its self-indulgent writing. It had too many episodes where it prioritized style over substance and were difficult to get through. However, I still believe that it is worth watching. One problem that a lot of 'intellectual' anime seem to have is that they forget to actually make a good show while delivering their message. |
hellohgy:Serial Experiments Lain: correctly predicted the isolation that social media would bring to our youth. Psycho-Pass Season 1: would you give up your privacy to the government in exchange for security? We are already seeing a social credit score being implemented in China. Animatrix: an anthology of animated shorts from that explore the matrix universe from different anime directors. Angel's Egg: how far are we willing to go for it convictions? If someone is happy believing a lie, would the truth help or harm them? Baccano!: seems nonsensical and hard to follow at first but wraps up nicely in the end. Has a lot of little details and easter that you may miss if you aren't paying attention. Almost like Quentin Tarantino movie. This might be a bit of a stretch but I've heard that Flip Flappers draws a lot of its story beats from Jungian philosophy. I may add to this list if I remember more stuff. |
simonjassy:Dorohedoro is my anime of the year so far. Just a side note, anytime I go through a period where I'm liking any anime in watching, I do one of two things: 1. Watch a top-notch anime or a classic from the 90s/00s. 2. Take a break. Sometimes you just get tired of the usual tropes, or reading subs, and it makes you hate the new stuff that you're watching. Just last week, I finished watching Fire Force after abandoning it at episode 4 for over a year because I just couldn't get into it. It was really good this time around. Remember that anime is entertainment, not a job. There's no harm in taking a break. |
Olamyyde:Dorohedoro |
donwizzy7:That's a good show, I don't know what you want. |
sholws:Hunter x Hunter |
Mark23:Anyone that doesn't like JJBA is a secret descendant of Dio. That said, part 3 is by far the weakest part and felt like a bunch of filler episodes. |
donwizzy7:You don't like it? |
Birdy the Mighty: Decode. Solid 8/10. Great plot, nice animation, well choreographed fight sequences. What holds it back the most are its mid 2000s anime visuals. Criminally underrated show.Check it out if you're looking for action series with heart. |
nani667:That face when no Astolfo. Why even live? |
famep:SAO is pretty bad but it deserves credit for popularizing the isekai genre. |
Lot's of talk about good anime we've watched on this thread. What about the worst? What's the worst anime you guys have seen and why is it Taboo Tattoo? |
Nova15:Nah, it was always trash |
Benalfa:A lot of people may mention Naruto and Bleach but in my opinion they are waaay to long to get into and my opinion on then has soured over time. To me, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is best anime for newbies. It's not too short or too long, has a bunch of anime tropes but not too tropey, nice action but isn't as action-oriented as a lot of popular stuff. In my opinion it is a very high quality anime but falls a little short of the elite shows. This means that when you're done you still have other good stuff to look forward to. Moving forward, you may want to look at some recent hits. Check out Kimetsu no Yaiba, all the 12 year olds think it's the best thing ever (I'm just trolling, it's actually quite good but the hype train was ridiculous). Attack on Titan and Hunter x Hunter are considered some of the best of our time. Steins;Gate (NOT Steins;Gate 0) is my personal favourite. I'm not a fan of Akame ga Kill but if you're looking for more edgy stuff that, check out the superior Code Geass, Tokyo Ghoul (season one), and Black Lagoon. |
BeLookingIDIOT:I'm going to preface this by saying that I'm not defending Chauvin's actions in any way. But the facts are: 1. George Floyd had been resisting arrest. 2. Coroner reports state that he had dangerous levels of fentanyl his system and was Covid-19 positive. 3. He had complained about difficulty in breathing before he was restrained. 4. The police men still pinned him down for 8 minutes while he was complaining and he died. The police men were reckless and showed disregard for his safety, thereby, excarbating his problems and leading to his death. A textbook 3rd degree murder. Chauvin has been overcharged with and he should be acquitted of 1st degree murder by any objective judge. A similar case occurred in 2016, an unarmed man, Tony Timpa, was restrained by the police and he died. Nobody cared because he was white and didn't fit the narrative.[/quote] BeLookingIDIOT:The numbers clearly show that isn't the case. This is an emotional response to the media spin on a legitimate issue. Yes, police brutality is a problem. No, it is not a black problem, it's everyone's problem. But now black communities have been destroyed by rioters. Sacrificed because the left didn't want to look bad by deploying the national guard. Police reform will be good but BLM is talking about defunding and outright abolition. See what happened in CHAZ when the police were ordered to stand down. |

CAPSLOCKED:It was clearly instigated by Democratic party members and George Soros. The news media and the Hollywood elite helped to fan the flames. This sh!t never seemed organic to me. It's like Marxism and communist apologia are the new religions being pushed in the west. It has seeped into western schools and is being perpetuated by the news media, the gaming community, Hollywood, and every form of entertainment. There's almost no series that started within the last 5 years, apart from anime that doesn't want to bash us in the head about how white people are evil, or men are trash, or how Christianity (never Islam) is the worst thing ever. |
BeLookingIDIOT:Unarmed doesn't necessarily mean harmless. If in the process of arrest, the suspect gets shot while attempting to wrestle an officer's gun away from them, it is treated like shooting an unarmed suspect. Now, I'm not saying that the police is perfect by any means, there is definitely a police brutality issue. There's a 2016 video of an unarmed man who called the police on himself because he was off his meds, the police came and sat on his back for 13 minutes while he complained that he couldn't breathe. The man eventually died, it it didn't go viral because he was white. It didn't fit the narrative so international didn't carry it and nobody cared. The stats show the truth. The media selectively reports what they want to generate the emotions they want from you. |
So I want to know what service provider y'all are using. Ntel just started capping their 'unlimited' data plans and although they claim to only be reducing the speed, my router is showing that it isn't receiving anything. So what data plans are the more heavy users among you guys using? |
BeLookingIDIOT:Factoring in the fact that despite making only 14% of the population black people commit almost half of the violent crime, your narrative still doesn't hold water. https://www.statista.com/statistics/585152/people-shot-to-death-by-us-police-by-race/
|
LordReed:No problem. I don't argue to win; I argue to exchange knowledge. I'm content if other people read this, do their own research, and come to their own conclusions. |
BeLookingIDIOT:FBI crime statistics tell a different story. Black people make up only 14% of the American population while white people make up over 65%. Black people still murdered white people over twice as much as white people murdered black people in 2018. You have been sold a narrative. https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2018/crime-in-the-u.s.-2018/tables/expanded-homicide-data-table-6.xls

LordReed:When the movement initiated by an organization leads to something good, it looks good for the organization. When it doesn't, it has nothing to do with the organization. Sounds like every organized religion in existence. These protests are scheduled and organized by specifically by the organization but when they devolve into rioting and violence, people try to absolve the organization of all responsibility. But since you know enough about BLM to gatekeep who is a part of it it not. Let me know what the goals of this organization are. Why did black people burn down and loot their own communities? For what cause was the little girl killed? Why are we promoting mass gatherings during a global pandemic when people who were protesting for the reopening of businesses were vilified? |
LordReed:They are a part of the movement, they carved out their autonomous zone during the BLM protests. They painted a gigantic black lives matter mural on the street leading to it's entrance. To pretend that they have nothing to do with BLM is highly disingenuous. LordReed:And they called him an Uncle Tom, a coon, and a race traitor. He went on Don Lemon's show where he talked about discrimination and racism from the black community, cultural issues, and the fact that BLM rioters shot and killed and 8-year-old girl only for him to be told that BLM is only concerned with police brutality. This is an organization that claims that they want to dismantle to current ""oppressive"" economic system on their official website. Why are they so duplicitous about their ideals and goals? Do they want to install their own Marxist government or do they just want to reduce police brutality? Do they want to abolish the police or just reform it? If they want equality for all like they claim on their website, then why do they associate with anti-semites? |
CAPSLOCKED:Based |
LordReed:You're asking me what the violence that takes place during BLM protests have to do with the BLM organization? Is that a trick question? The Terry Crews thing happened on Twitter, I don't think there was a New York Times op-ed calling him that. |
LordReed:Anyone who speaks out against the organization, or even just the violence, looting, and mayhem being caused the movement gets harassed, their employers get harassed, their show's sponsors get harassed to drop them. Joseph Stalin couldn't be more proud. CHAZ is not a part of the organization but is definitely a part of the movement. People were afraid to speak out against that until they killed two unarmed black teenagers. An eight year old girl was killed by BLM protesters the other day. Yet, Terry Crews was still called a race traitor for telling people to reel in the extremism. I don't have a dog in this fight but I know a subversive organization when I see one. |

)...I also finish this because 'SAKUGA!!!'...but I can never recommend this to anybody though...waste of time animes like concrete revolutio puts me in a 'i'm really fed up' mood and the worst part is I'll still eventually stumble upon stuff like it again...*sighs*
