Kaycee7:I couldn't make it past the first 15 minutes of the movie before I ragequit. That movie is horrible, Artemis isn't the asshole evil genius he's supposed to be in the first book, this guy was surfing in the first scene of the movie. Butler is played by some fat Nigerian dude and everyone calls him by his first name. Mulch Diggums is a giant dwarf for some reason so he is human-sized. They made Commander Root a woman in the movie which is a big deal because in the books Holly Short is supposed to be first female LEPRecon agent apart from Vinyaya who is in secret service. Root is supposed to be incredibly strict towards her because she's supposed to set the standard future female agents. I must have aged 5 years in those 15 minutes from boning face too much. |
Kaycee7:Thanks man, I've read the entire Artemis Fowl series so I can see that you probably have good taste. I'll check out The Last Don |
Santos07:Nice list, looks very promising, I'm particularly interested in Pigpen since it's from the author of Bastard and Sweet Home. Thanks. |
Arthurity1:I've seen Chainsaw Man but I'll check out the rest. I have all the time in the world now. Thanks. |
Arthurity1:Holy crap! You know Scamboli? I've actually seen his recommendations. As a matter of fact, I picked up My Home Hero and Record of Ragnarok because of him. Thanks a lot though. Let me see your manga recommendations. |
So guys, I just dislocated my knee and won't be mobile for a while. Can I get some manga/manhwa recommendations to pass the time? |
Kaycee7:Goddamn millennials and their ADHD. Back in my day I had to walk 5km barefoot just to see a good fight scene. |
Arthurity1:Haha, I picked up Sweet Home immediately after reading Bastard. And I have to say that it is even better, from the art to the characters, it's obvious that authors have gotten even better at what they do. |
To the guy that recommended the manhwa called 'Bastard' to me back when I asked: arigatou. Bastard is great, and there isn't much I can say about without spoiling some of the early reveals. Despite it's amateurish art, the author was able to paint a short but sweet psychological thriller. What makes this manhwa great is the villain, he reminds of the Joker in some ways. Apart from being a serial killer, he's a manipulative and sadistic psycho who takes pleasure in corrupting his victims by putting them in situations where they have no choice but to hurt others. The main protagonist is no exception to this so don't expect him to come out squeaky clean. Of course, it also explores highschool bullying, which is something I see so often in manhwa that I wonder what goes down in Korean schools. If you end up reading Bastard and enjoying it, the authors are currently working on a new project called Sweet Home which may even be better than Bastard. More on that some other time. |
Kaycee7:I can definitely see where you're coming from. But this was a matter of life and death, and in real life when people don't have a way to fight they do whatever it takes to survive. He did what he felt he had to do to get Priscilla to cooperate with him because he had seen the damage that the whale thing could cause. It's like if you had prior knowledge that Boko Haram was going to bomb a place and you needed help to stop it but the people wanted you to do demeaning things to prove your resolve. Would it really still be a matter of self-esteem? Kaycee7:What happens when you torture and kill someone in cold blood multiple times because you "diDn'T tRuSt HiM"? You get what you fvcking deserve. I was happy that he shut that bitch down. On that day, I also liked Emilia. |
Kaycee7:He's just a normal teenager in a very tough situation. Apart from his return by death ability, he has no special powers, he isn't particularly athletic or intelligent. All he has is his single-minded determination. At that point, he'd already gone through some fvcked up things and was nearing the end of his rope. I actually liked the realistic approach to main characters making rash, desperate decisions, here his actions failed spectacularly and he ended up getting absolutely humiliated, emasculated, and cucked by Priscilla. Subaru is not a simp, saving Emilia is the only goal that keeps him same through all the torture and trauma. And he's not a bitch either, he's just a normal boy that suddenly found himself in a harsh and unforgiving world. He suffers post traumatic stress so he lashes out, makes mistakes, his plans fail when factors that he didn't account for come into play, or because he simply was strong enough. He tries something new and keeps trying until he succeeds. It's as simple as that. |
anonymouskay:To be honest, I just needed to vent. I've been pissed off about Bleach for years. I'm still excited for its return, though. |
Daniel2802:Besides its terrible pacing, that arc had so many asspulls and plotkais that I'm surprised that someone would call it the best arc. It started off great but Tite Kubo couldn't let beloved characters stay dead so they came back and destroyed the high-stake atmosphere that had been created. And the worst part is that they didn't really have anything to do. Then we got the Sternritter army. There were 26 of them and they different power levels but nothing to tell us how strong they would actually be. So some were captain level while some were vice-captain level. Don't get me started on the broken abilities they had. They were so powerful that a lot of the fights just consisted of dudes standing around and explaining how their opponent was already dead. Gremmy could literally make any wish come true but somehow lost to Kenpachi in the dumbest way possible after Kenpachi revealed his shikai. Speaking of disappointing reveals, Unohana, the former kenpachi, didn't get to fully power up before getting wasted. Squad zero was pathetic. Worst of all, we never got to see Ichigo's new abilities in any meaningful way. When Yhwach revealed his broken auschwalen Kubo knew he had with himself into a corner so he reached far into his rectum and pulled out that arrow that Ryuken somehow knew was the key to stopping the Almighty. Yes, the team up between Ichigo, Ginjo, and Aizen was great and their plan was clever but the buildup to it was a drunk and stumbling mess of an arc. While the arc had its highlights, I'm still salty that Tite Kubo made some of the choices he did even though he was bullied into some of them. As a fan of Bleach I hope the anime can fix some of the faults in the manga. |
nkiliuzo:Texhnolyze Elfen Lied Genocyber: Just good ole gore and not much more Akira Battle Angel OVA If you can ignore the fact that these don't sci-fi elements, then you may enjoy: Devilman Crybaby Devilman OVA Wicked City Ninja Scroll Urotsukidoji: Legend of the overfiend Violence Jack Kite I can't really attest to the quality of these anime except for a few. But if you're looking for violent and nihilistic shlock you can start with these. |
Duchessree:No Neon Genesis Evangelion? No Boku no Hero Academia? No Kimetsu no Yaiba? |
Kaycee7:Imagine getting triggered by a drawing. This is why gatekeeping exists. |
Mark23:It's creepy to fawn over a drawing that looks like a child but at the end of the day, it's just a drawing and nobody is harmed. |
IMAliyu:Not even roid rage Abby can stop Uzaki's sugoi dekai kawaii oppai. |
IMAliyu:I guess if you consider Promare a mecha anime it wasn't too bad. |
donwizzy7:Aldnoah Zero had a great first season. Season 2 was horrible. |
IMAliyu:The Soul Eater anime is so underrated and I think it's because of its trash ending. |
Elder0001:Don't forget torrents. |
Kaycee7:Just checked it out, they even got a Nigerian voice actress. |
hustlelegit:Don't let Tunde catch your girl with his Yoruba Spear. |
Kaycee7:I mean, it's one of the largest native African tribes with some of the most popular traditional lore. I know a bunch of Yoruba gods but I can't mention any Igbo or Hausa god. |
donwizzy7:Relax, we'll be fine. Worst case scenario is that we'll have to get more innovative for a while. |
donwizzy7:This is basically what Netflix has succeeded in doing and they are penetrating the Nigerian market. Even though at best I only use my subscription to watch the few good anime they have, one or two of their series, and true crime documentaries, I still subscribe regularly because it is affordable and convenient. How much more so for an anime streaming service that doesn't treat me like a criminal when I put in my card details? |
OziSensei:Every subscription service we use (except Netflix) eventually suddenly stops supporting the debit cards we to pay. Them we have to run around looking for how to pay. Crunchyroll flat out rejected a bunch of cards, Apple music has declined my card for past three days now even though I've been using that card for months. At the end of the day piracy remains the most convenient way to get your fix of entertainment. It sucks but that's the reality. I'm done chasing these companies with my money. Even though they take down download sites. Torrent sites and irc channels have weathered many storms. Copyright laws on western music, tv sites and movies have always been strict but we still pirate them. Anime will be fine. |
Press F to pay respects.
|
IMAliyu:Is that 6-digit number what I think it is?
|
IMAliyu:No worries, It's not even that much of a spoiler given that the mangaka has a giant pulsating boner for killing characters off. |
IMAliyu:This looks more upbeat than Claymore, definitely adding this one to my list. |
