Music/RadioDON OMAR Accused Of Hijacking Yacht For 'danza Kuduro' Video by Cosmopolice(op): 6:34pm On Feb 28, 2013
If you wanna film a yacht filled with babes for your music video, you have to ASK THE YACHT'S OWNER FIRST -- so says a new lawsuit, in which singer Don Omar is accused of smuggling hot chicks onto a boat for his "Danza Kuduro" video ... and illegally filming them on board.

The yacht in question -- named Le Reve -- appears at the 2:15 mark in the video ... when Don Omar approaches to find the girls partying on board. Naturally, they hop off and follow him.

But there's one problem -- according to the lawsuit, no one ever asked for any permission whatsoever to use or film the yacht ... especially to promote the "fast, lavish, over-the-top lifestyle" portrayed in the video.

The yacht's owner -- some Portuguese company -- is suing for trespass AND defamation, claiming it has suffered damages as a result of its association with the video's slutty vibe.

The company is suing Don Omar, his record company, and pretty much everyone involved in the video's production -- demanding a fat check.

Don's rep tells TMZ, the singer denies any responsibility for the shooting location in question. The rep says the recording company is responsible for clearing locations/yacht rentals. Calls to the other defendants weren't returned.

I hope psquare didnt steal the yatch they used in shooting onyiye remix. Lol

Science/TechnologyScientists Uncover Invisible Motion In Video by Cosmopolice(op): 11:28am On Feb 28, 2013
A 30-second video of a newborn baby shows the infant silently snoozing in its crib, his breathing barely perceptible. But when the video is run through an algorithm that can amplify both movement and color, the baby’s face blinks crimson with each tiny heartbeat.

The amplification process is called Eulerian Video Magnification, and is the brainchild of a team of scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.

The team originally developed the program to monitor neonatal babies without making physical contact. But they quickly learned that the algorithm can be applied to other videos to reveal changes imperceptible to the naked eye. Prof. William T. Freeman, a leader on the team, imagines its use in search and rescue, so that rescuers could tell from a distance if someone trapped on a ledge, say, is still breathing.

“Once we amplify these small motions, there’s like a whole new world you can look at,” he said.

The system works by homing in on specific pixels in a video over the course of time. Frame-by-frame, the program identifies minute changes in color and then amplifies them up to 100 times, turning, say, a subtle shift toward pink to a bright crimson. The scientists who developed it believe it could also have applications in industries like manufacturing and oil exploration. For example, a factory technician could film a machine to check for small movements in bolts that might indicate an impending breakdown. In one video presented by the scientists, a stationary crane sits on a construction site, so still it could be a photograph. But once run through the program, the crane appears to sway precariously in the wind, perhaps tipping workers off to a potential hazard.

It is important to note that the crane does not actually move as much as the video seems to show. It is the process of motion amplification that gives the crane its movement.

The program originally gained attention last summer when the team presented it at the annual computer graphics conference known as Siggraph in Los Angeles.

Since then, the M.I.T. team has improved the algorithm to achieve better quality results, with significant improvements in clarity and accuracy.

Michael Rubinstein, a doctoral student and co-author on the project, said that after the presentation and subsequent media coverage, the team was inundated with e-mails inquiring about the availability of the program for uses ranging from health care to lie detection in law enforcement. Some people, says Mr. Rubinstein, inquired about how the program might be used in conjunction with Google’s glasses to see changes in a person’s face while gambling.

“People wanted to be able to analyze their opponent during a poker game or blackjack and be able to know whether they’re cheating or not, just by the variation in their heart rate,” he said.

The team posted the code online and made it available to anyone who wanted to download it and run the program. But to do so required some technical expertise because the interface was not simple to use. Last week, Quanta Research Cambridge, a Taiwan-based manufacturer of laptop computers that helped finance the project, provided a way for people to upload video clips to their Web site and to see a video that is run through the program.

The project is also financed by the National Science Foundation and Royal Dutch Shell, among others.

The team is also working toward making the program as an app for smartphones. “I want people to look around and see what’s out there in this world of tiny motions,” said Mr. Freeman.

PoliticsBill Clinton Counters Jonathan, Insists Poverty Behind Boko Haram, Ansaru Insurg by Cosmopolice(op): 9:59pm On Feb 27, 2013
Former U.S. President Bill Clinton said Tuesday Nigeria’s challenge of terrorism in the north was being fuelled by extreme poverty that increases by the day, an evaluation he once offered during a previous visit to Nigeria. It is also an evaluation Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan hates to hear.

Mr. Clinton said Nigerian leaders must share the country’s resources equitably, and develop the country’s human resources to stem extremism that has seen bombings, shootings and abductions escalate mainly in the northern states where extremist groups, Boko Haram, and Ansaru, thrive.

“You have to somehow bring economic opportunity to the people who don’t have it. You have all these political problems — and now violence problems — that appear to be rooted in religious differences and all the rhetoric of the Boko Harams and others. But the truth is the poverty rate in the north is three times of what it is in Lagos,” the former president said.

Mr. Clinton remark must have irritated President Jonathan who has repeatedly dismissed poverty or misrule as responsible for the surging terrorism and violent crimes in the North of Nigeria.

In his recent infamous interview with  CNN’s Christian Amanpour, Mr. Jonathan vehemently objected to the suggestion that widespread poverty, massive corruption and misrule were the possible root causes of terrorism in Nigeria.
“Boko Haram is not as a result of misrule; definitely not,” an agitated Mr. Jonathan said during the interview. “And sometimes people feel like it is a result of poverty; definitely not. Boko Haram is a local terror group.”

But Mr. Clinton said clearly Tuesday, not minding the discomfort his comment might cause the Nigerian government, that the administration will have to cut down inequality and lift more people out of poverty if it truly wants to eradicate extremism.

He said Nigeria needs to adopt a political structure that gives more power to the local and state governments, to decentralize governance and deliver prosperity to the rural areas.

“You have about three big challenges. First of all, like 90 per cent of the countries who have one big resource, you have a number of ways with your own money. It shows you have different ways. Now you are at least not wasting the natural gas, you are developing and selling it through the pipelines. You have to do better job of managing the natural resources,” Mr. Clinton said.

“Secondly, you have to somehow bring economic opportunities to the people who don’t have. This is not a problem specific to Nigeria. In almost every place in the world, prosperity is heavily concentrated in and around urban areas.

“You have to have both powerful state and local governments and a national policy that work together.
“If you just keep trying to divide the power if you will, into loosening strategy, you have to figure out a way to have a strategy that will help share the prosperity.”

The former U.S. president has raised similar observation in his past visits to Nigeria, only to draw criticisms for them, with many challenging the assessment as not reflecting the Nigerian reality.

While analysts agree poverty thrives in the country, they argue that it affects every part of the country and as such cannot be cited as a justification for regional extremism.

He spoke in Abeokuta, Ogun state on Tuesday where he attended the ThisDay newspaper award. The event was also attended by former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo amongst other dignitaries.

The event witnessed a dramatic start as guests protested a call by the moderator for the rendition of the American National Anthem, before Nigeria’s.
Guests were already seated when the award organizer, Nduka Obaigbena, publisher of Thisday Newspapers; and the Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun; ushered in Mr. Clinton. Then, the Master of Ceremony announced that the American Anthem was to be played followed by the Nigerian anthem.

Guests swiftly kicked against the move, demanding that Nigeria’s go first.
A change was effected. The Nigeria national anthem was sung, followed by Ogun State anthem while the American anthem was eventually dropped.

Music/RadioKANYE WEST Disses JT & Jay-z Not A 'suit & Tie' Fan by Cosmopolice(op): 4:36pm On Feb 24, 2013
Kanye West fired enough another patented rant last night during his show in London ... but this time he took a shot at his rap BFF ... Jay-Z.

Kanye's white noise rambling included the usual suspects ... corporations, the Grammys, and so on. But then the father-to-be let it be known he was not a fan of Jigga's new song with Justin Timberlake, saying, "I got love for Hov, but I ain't f--king with that 'Suit & Tie.'"

Jay and Justin have been performing the song all over the place lately, including at the Grammys two weeks ago

Perhaps someone is just a little jealous

BusinessRe: Seun Osewa Recognized By Forbes Africa by Cosmopolice: 3:57pm On Feb 24, 2013
Vision2017: Ever since my eyes caught glimpse of this ill-fated news, I have been surfing the internet to ascertain the authenticity of this report cause I find it pretty difficult to believe that an internationally recognised magazine as forbes would want to have anything to do with a mediocre as Seun whose antecedent could be likened to that of a toddler/cocoon of the house who's very much under the influence of his mother's breast milk. Seun's discretion lately here in his over-hyped webpage isa clear pointer to that fact that it has failed woefully in its entire ramification to achieve desired result and is destined fold-up in no distant time owing to mismanagement, lack of fore-sight and integrity. Infact, Seun is a prophet of doom and should be eradicated from the nigeraian cyber-space.
Conclusively, the report in itself is malicious, half-baked and has no iota of truth that he was shortlisted on forbes magazine for whatsoever merit or recognition. I am therefore using this opportunity to call on appropriate authorities concerned to investigate this obnoxious report and have whoever behind it including Seun aressted, detained and prosecuted in a competent court of jurisdiction. Thanks

PhonesRe: Open Letter To NCC On Data Bundle Cost by Cosmopolice: 3:41pm On Feb 19, 2013
[quote author=*solid*] I wish to use this medium to call on The Nigerian Communications Commision to as a matter of urgency look into this issue of data subscription disparity.

First, it is worthy of note, the effort of The NCC in seeing that Nierians are get good value for every kobo spent on network providers. With the likes of regulation of SMS cost to a flat rate of N4 per unit SMS, as well as other meaningful regulations.

Like wise it would be a very very commendable effort if the NCC can regulate and make uniform to a reasonable amount the cost of data bundle subscription across the board of internet user and subscribers.

At present, people who can afford blackberry mobile device are given larger data bundle while other mobile users and PC users are give less that half data bundle for the same amount.

This treatment to people who can not afford blackberry mobile device is so unfair and should be discontinued.

Nigerians deserve a better treatment.

Besides, if the internet data bundle price is reviewed downwards, the economic benefits are so numerous as more Nigerians would become internet users and the opportunities that comes with that would be to the benefit of all.

Nigerians would remain appreciative if the NCC handel this matter with the urgency it requires.

Kabir

Christianity EtcHow An AFP Photographer Captured The Photo Of Lightning Hitting The Vatican by Cosmopolice(op): 6:43pm On Feb 12, 2013
Hours after Pope Benedict XVI stunned the world by announcing he would resign at the end of the month, a blinding shaft of lightning shot down from the heavens and struck the rod atop the white cross on St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican.  Imagine the odds.  But here’s where it gets even more Twilight Zone: At that precise moment, AFP photographer Filippo Monteforte – his camera already trained on the Basilica’s cupola – pushed the button that yielded the image above.  A miracle?  Not quite.

“I took the picture from St. Peter’s Square while sheltered by the columns. It was icy cold and the rain was falling in sheets. When the storm started, I thought that lightning might strike the rod, so I decided it was worth seeing whether – if it DID strike – I could get the shot at exactly the right moment.” Armed with a 50mm lens, Filippo waited. And waited. More than two hours. And then it happened. Twice. “The first bolt was huge and lit up the sky, but unfortunately I missed it. I had better luck the second time, and was able to snap a couple of images of the dome illuminated by the bolt.”
