kenlinzo:
There is no wickedness there. The car got to Nigeria with about 1.5m. What about the money used in bringing the vehicle to its present state? I believe the seller did not even make up to 300k in this business.

The most important thing is that the buyer is enjoying his car.
Ignorance is not always bliss. What you don't know CAN hurt you.

Try not to get hung up on the pricing and focus on the deliberate withholding of relevant information necessary to make informed decisions and the deliberate misinformation and misrepresentation of damaged merchandise as otherwise undamaged by the seller.

No, that is certainly not the 'most important thing'. On that we will have to disagree.

The end does not always justify the means.

From my understanding, they said that doesnt mean the car is bad. Like this accident i am seeing is not a serious one. I checked carfax...its about $35 to get the report. Is there a cheaper link?
As long as this was repaired to standard, it's actually not as severe as some cases I've come across. In this case a physical inspection by a trained and trustworthy professional, in addition to the VIN report, should inform your decision.

You can contact computerglobal for competitive carfax prices. His information is in the Autos Section.

Good Luck.

There's no such vehicle as a 2003 Lexus Es330.

You also have photos for 2 different vehicles. Neither of which is a 2003 vehicle.

There's also no VIN displayed.

What sort of confused advert is this Sir?

Above thread refers pls.

It's called business, as a businessman, is your money or your capital. You buy, you sell or resell at any price of your choice.

Not anybody's business but yours.

What about letting the buyer know exactly what he's buyinghuh

Can still remember the face the dealer made when the question was put him that what have you replaced in this vehicle?

Responding to the question, he said nothing, the car came into the country like that clean untouched.

I talked to some people about VIN yesterday, but they don't know it, like hearing from me for the first time and they are all car owners.

That's the reason why people can easily be deceived there.

Who am i to against salvage business or it importationhuh

Is a business, but is all about full disclosure and letting the buyers know what they're paying for.

This vehicle had accident or flooded but has been fixed perfectly.

They walk away because of the history, some will walk in and pay and everybody go home happy.

Why advertise a car to be clean, accident free and the history says something elsehuh
Perhaps edit this post to make it clear and separate your opinions and responses from those of the individuals you quoted?

Just a thought.

Egbon,

To be candid, pictures 2 & 3 are best fit to be dismantled and sold as spare parts. Perhaps the auto-dealers know that selling such cars to spare-part dealers would not bring much ROI hence the reason for repairing the damaged parts and sell such vehicles at market price.

I agree with you for picture 1. The extent of the damage is manageable. The engine, chasis and radiator are well intact. I wouldn't mind going for such type.

Your thread is an eye opener to potential car buyers and if it would cost much to buy grade A car, I wouldn't mind.

Did you realise that most Japanese cars have this issue? It's rare to see this complaints in Europeans and America cars. Just my observation though or what do u think?
Not rare, not quite. It's a question of relativity. For every 1 Mercedes-Benz C300 imported, there are 100 Toyota Corolla vehicles imported.

Certainly more accidented cases of the often cheaper, more ubiquitous Asian vehicles would present themselves.

Go through my posts and you will come across multiple European Vehicles with similar and even worse issues.

Actually i dont really quote people like you.

You should have asked is he working with the Federal govt or state.

Is he buying from his savings alone or with cooperative loan payable in 3yrs.

For your information, he's working the federal government on Contediss 14.

In a tertiary institution where he treat mails from employees.

Not in the busary or works or where they deal with cash.

In that division, corruption is not existing.

People live salaries and loans.

You ask questions first or think before saying somethings
This is unnecessary. Cease the responses to any issues outside the scope of the underhanded sale being discussed.

Cut a path through the distractions and keep the focus on the real issues.

You should consider obtaining a carfax or other form of VIN report for future purposes. It would paint a better picture of the history of this vehicle.

This comes up for a white 2009 Toyota Venza Base trim.

Has an accidented and salvaged history.

Please how can I get my vehicle VIN and how can I check it online?
It's a 17 character number. Depicted are the more common locations on the vehicle to obtain the VIN.

Sometimes a simple Google search helps, but often a comprehensive report may be necessary. There are various categories of VIN reports with varying levels of details and history.

There are a couple of free VIN Autocheck threads lying around, like

https://www.nairaland.com/4452448/free-vehicle-history-cars-usa

Or you may need a paid VIN check service such as that provided by Computerglobal over in the Autos Section.

There already are, and will be, a lot of comments from clever individuals about how it's just business and how there was no wrongdoing in this situation.

There will also be comments from individuals getting hung up on the price, somehow missing the primary issues.

Those comments are hardly surprising. They abound in the Autos Section of this Forum.

Those comments and the warped rationalization prompting and fueling them are the reasons business continues to be such a risky endeavour in this society.

I really don't need to refer to your entire post, my response above covers everything else you added.

The price is not the issue.

If you read through the thread Explorers created about vehicles in the Autos Section and the thread below, you'd understand what the real issues are.

Ignoramuses everywhere... Firstly, I need to know what you guys are complaining abt. The $1K add fee is mandatory but, not necessarily that much. It's a % of the total cost + numerous fees added up. So let's assume it's $1K... So, let's do the math..

$(275 + 1,000 + 200 + 1,200) = $2,675 * N360 = N963,000 + N500,000 (Shipping cost) = N1,463,000

The total US$ cost from what you put up there is
The slur was completely unwarranted and unnecessary. The issue here is not the price.

I had a feeling it was a similar situation when I saw your request. I just didn't know how dire the situation was.

It beats my imagination how one would witness this and the situation I described in my VIN Tampering thread and still be against the VIN being provided upfront for preliminary investigation.

The elderly gentleman, unfortunately, failed to do his due diligence, for whatever reason, it could simply be a case of poor preparation before purchasing a vehicle in Nigeria.

I have no issues with the price. The seller may choose to ask for 4 million NGN after factoring in repair costs, if he so wishes, as long as he has fully disclosed the history of the vehicle and provided the VIN. Sellers with ridiculous prices often get regulated by market forces after their vehicles sit unsold for long periods due to the high prices.

Make no mistake about it, the bulk of the responsibility lies with the morally bankrupt seller for failing to fully disclose the history of this vehicle and probably for taking undue advantage of the elderly gentleman.

Very unfortunate.
