Post the VIN please. Thanks |
toluxa1:That would depend on the auction title. Some salvaged vehicles are branded Export-Only. Those are the ones you referred to. |
aAK1:The labor costs to fix this level of damage to acceptable standard before export to Nigeria would be significantly more than would be charged in Lagos. So they get shipped in in their damaged state, sometimes are even declared as for-parts, for the very severely damaged vehicles, they make a killing on the import duty, 'fix' the vehicle - Which often is a shoddy process, what shady dealer would want to make the expenses to fix a deployed SRS assembly to standard, afterall- then the 'repaired' vehicles get a glossy coat of paint and get advertised by the fellows in the Autos Section as Accident-Free, with no VIN and no history. An unsuspecting or naive fellow comes along and gets swindled into forking over some cash, almost always significantly overpriced. Then the process restarts. There's a reason why used car salespeople have such a bad rep. |
shevy45:VIN please. Thanks. |
I had a feeling it was a similar situation when I saw your request. I just didn't know how dire the situation was. It beats my imagination how one would witness this and the situation I described in the VIN Tampering thread and still be against the VIN being provided upfront for preliminary investigation. The elderly gentleman, unfortunately, failed to do his due diligence, for whatever reason, it could simply be a case of poor preparation before purchasing a vehicle in Nigeria. I have no issues with the price. The seller may choose to ask for 4 million NGN after factoring in repair costs, if he so wishes, as long as he has fully disclosed the history of the vehicle and provided the VIN. Sellers with ridiculous prices often get regulated by market forces after their vehicles sit unsold for long periods due to the high prices. Make no mistake about it, the bulk of the responsibility lies with the morally bankrupt seller for failing to fully disclose the history of this vehicle and probably for taking undue advantage of the elderly gentleman. Very unfortunate. |
![]() That's alright. |
Alvin007:Pride? Fall? ![]() How exactly can one fall when one is nowhere to begin with? Don't you have to have something to lose to be proud? What would you opine I have to lose? |
Alvin007:You're entitled to your opinions, however unfortunate they may be. I don't really consider people like you as interested in making this section safer for buyers and sellers. So it's alright for you to have your opinions, but I'm sure you'll understand when I kindly decline your admiration and your approval or lack thereof. It simply makes no difference what you think or approve of. Not to me, and not to other people interested in making the Autos Section better. |
Cosplay, trust and high integrity ![]() Please disabuse yourself of that notion. I do not expect anyone here to hold a random moniker in high esteem. My work here will speak for itself. Draw your conclusions and form your opinions. Ignore the unstable fellow and focus on the results of his lack of stability. |
Just to add that in my opinion I think it's silly to suggest that findings, especially when significant, made about a publicly advertised vehicle should be discussed with the advertiser in private. What happens to the next interested party who's unable to make Those discoveries? We're supposed to just trust and assume that the seller that didn't even disclose the information in the first place would then make the information given to him 'in private' available to a prospective buyer? But what do I even know sef. |
I have come across a number of adverts with the VIN displayed and running the VIN revealed a salvage history Of some sort and I simply moved on because the damage was either minimal or the seller even indicated it was damaged but repaired. I have also done the exact opposite. On a number of threads with the VIN displayed the vehicles turned out to be either flooded or so significantly damaged or a history of odometer rollback. Son I returned to the thread and made my findings be known. As far as I'm concerned any seller that chooses not to know the history of the vehicles he/she advertises deserves whatever Ill luck befalls them as a result of their ignorance, whether the VIN is displayed or not. Do your due diligence, fully disclose and provide the VIN and let the buyers do their own due diligence and make their informed decisions. |
A lot of opinions from a lot of...usernames. If I came across an advert that should have a VIN, I could ask the seller to make it available. Or If I decided the seller should and would know better than to not have the VIN displayed, I would Further investigate and find the VIN and the vehicle history and make it available right there on the thread. If a seller does make the VIN available and I run a check and it meets some conditions, Flood history included, you best believe I will be back to that thread. That a seller chose to make the VIN available would seem to indicate he's being transparent. That is simply not always the case. On multiple occasions a seller displayed the VIN only to remove it after the vehicle was exposed as having a flood title, which makes little sense but was probably a knee-jerk response, probably because they didn't even know the vehicle history. |

Is the stated naira fee the fixed rate or it's pegged to the dollar fee? |
SwiftSales1:Please post the VIN. Thanks. |
Is this vehicle in Nigeria? |
valarinz:Sorry, I couldn’t resist pointing out the difference between slander and libel. Slander is spoken defamation, libel is written or typed defamation. So I think in this scenario libel would be more appropriate. |
Quadmaster:You could request for the VIN to be made available. |
KceeK:If na insult you wan start you go get am plenty. But just know that the vehicle you’re advertising is the same one chukel posted above. The exact same. Don’t let your ignorance lead you astray. Many have gone. |
This is clearly an ES300. It’s right there on the vehicle. |
Explorers:Those can all be retrofitted aftermarket with little difficulty. |
As I’ve mentioned before, any seller who refuses to make the VIN for advertised vehicles available or insists on a physical inspection to provide the VIN has something to hide. Case study the link I posted above. Whenever you come across an advert with the vin and/or vehicle relevant history missing and the seller refuses to make it available without a physical inspection, please run far away For every seller who takes the above advice and insists on not making the vin available for preliminary investigation, there are 10 others who make the vin available because they have nothing to hide. There is no crime in selling accidented or salvaged vehicles. The issue is when sellers take the above irrational advice and hide the relevant information necessary for interested parties to make informed decisions. Choose wisely. https://www.nairaland.com/4472739/vin-validation-vin-tampering-case NEXT!! |
![]() What’s hilarious is that you think there are no ways to obtain vin information for vehicles unless the seller provides the vin. Wake up and smell the coffee son. There’s also the massive obvious contradiction where you’re recommending due diligence in one line and discouraging VIN being provided in the next. No surprise there. https://www.nairaland.com/4472739/vin-validation-vin-tampering-case Sure, don’t post the vin. There’s always someone willing to assist with that. |
Sold for 275 USD.

Explorers:This comes up as a Japan-Origin US Market 2006 Toyota Corolla CE. Severely damaged, auctioned on copart on 13/12/2017.

It appears to be the very same 4Runner. 1-2 unaccounted-for years. There could be a number of reasons for the seeming discrepancy |

Vehicle 1 appears to have disappeared into a scrap yard and was cannibalized for parts. 2. Vehicle 2 appears to be a 2017 Honda CR-V of Canadian origin. Note bilingual labels in French/English, Odometer is also displayed in KM, though for this model there is an option/button to switch to Miles. 3. Vehicle 2 cannot possibly bear the same VIN as Vehicle 1. Vehicle 2 has a relatively high quality counterfeit VIN sticker, which includes the VIN and the barcode from vehicle 1. Note fonts, spacing, 4WD vs FWD, Colour codes, among others. 4. Vehicle 2 is a quite expensive, late model vehicle of uncertain origin and provenance, most certainly illegally obtained. VIN cloning par excellence. 5. Nigeria, specifically Lagos State, urgently needs updated and modern automobile safety and security laws/rules/regulations.
