Many salary earners have actually spent their salary before receiving it, like ill jokingly say my eyes have spent my salary

We will be looking at stuffs that take your salary, we will be using the singles as we know most married people have extra stuffs added to their expenditure monthly example children school fees, diapers ,baby food etc

we will be using the salary scale of ₦ 70,000

Power Bills: Depends on what you use prepaid or direct bills, you still pay a lot. the average cost of power bills in Nigeria is ₦5,000 monthly note after paying maybe ₦1000 you still pay one hidden maintenance fee somewhere, you wont see this until you check your receipt. if you are using direct light be expecting nothing less than ₦7,000 monthly from the power companies

Lawma(Trash Management): Waste management is serious business especially in Lagos, do you know if you don’t pay you waste bills you can be prosecuted in Lagos or the gate of your house locked up, in my house that consists of 6 flats we pay ₦ 6000 monthly for waste management, that’s ₦ 1,000 naira per flat depending on your location.

Security Bills(Olode): This one is now a compulsory thing in Lagos and some part of western Nigeria, some group of young youths would come together and form a group , become a vigilante and start charging each street at least
₦ 1,000 per month note this is per flat too.

Transportation: Whether you are using a car or a bus, you would still pay for transportation. it cost an average lagosian ₦ 1500 daily to move to and fro around lagos to work.

Food: Should i say food is a curse because of the cost, lagosians spend an average ₦5000 per week for a person, this is because most lagosians are working class and dont have time to eat at home. so they end up buying food, Food Stuff should go for ₦ 15000 per month for a single person if the person chooses not to eat outside or minimize it.

Cable Subscription: The lowest Dstv or gotv sub goes for ₦ 2500 monthly , NOTE: Some people would still go out and spend ₦ 100 to watch football at viewing centers.

Recharge Card/Data: According to the NBS , Nigerians spend more on recharge card than food, in an average we recharge ₦ 5000 monthly on call cards and data

Major Traffic Jam Routes in Lagos

Lagos is the commercial Hub, this comes with a huge price, according to Lagos state government report in 2018 over 12 million people use Lagos roads daily. Lagos is not only popular due to his business environment but equally its size.

As much as this traffic cuts across the whole of the state, some major roads in the state are more prone to this traffic than the other. Lagosians can spend up to 5 hours in a traffic. Its always hard to avoid traffic in Lagos

Iyana-Ipaja/Egbeda Road to Ikeja/Oshodi: Iyana-Ipaja/Egbeda are locations under Alimosho Local Government with a population of over 2 million people, many of this people live in ikotun, igando ,ojo etc. Most people living in alimosho either work in Ikeja or on the island.

Ikotun to Ejigbo road/Jakande Gate/Oke-afa/cele express: This road is always hell in the morning both for going and coming in the evening for workers, most people plying this route are either going to oshodi, apapa, Obalende/Cms. This is as a result of bad roads and inexperienced lastma officials.

Ojota to Palm-Grove/Anthony/Onipan/Yaba: The route is always blocked because of tankers that parked on yaba bridge and equally on the highway, you can spend sometimes two hours just to get to yaba.

Cele-express to Apapa/Coconut/Apapa: I have nothing to write about this because everyone knows till eternity this place will always be jammed. People who work in this area often sleep in their respective offices for the week to return home at the weekend all because of the traffic on this road. The reason for this is basically because there is only one major linking road to Apapa. The traffic gets even worse when tanker drivers decide to go park their tankers on the bridge instead of their designated park.


3rd Mainland Bridge: The large number of people who work on the Island and live on the mainland is the major reason for this terrible traffic. The fact that people can spend several hours in this traffic mean they’ve had to learn to leave their homes as early as 4am or 5am in order to meet up with their very early resumption time.

Opic Estate/Berger Road to Inside Lagos: This road leads all the way to Mowe and Ibafo in Ogun state. The relatively cheap housing in these areas also makes it a densely populated area, mostly people who work in Lagos. The high population in this area is one of the major reasons for the stand still traffic often encountered on this road. If there was another good road leading to these areas, maybe the story about the traffic would be a whole lot different. Since there isn’t, the horrible traffic tale on the road remains.

COST OF TRANSPORT AROUND LAGOS MAJOR ROUTES FOR WORKERS

Lagos is the commercial capital of Nigeria, this has impacted in a lot of things in the state including high cost of transportation around the state.

We will be taking a look at the cost of transportation around major destinations in Lagos for the working class , we will be calculating how much the working class spend going to and fro around Lagos and the cost of rent per year. We believe most Lagosians spend the same amount on transport and rent every year.

Our calculation would be cost of transport and total working days, it would be total cost in a day that is to and fro, we have a total of 261 working days in 2019

NOTE: some of this prices fluctuate a lot due to rain( sounds funny right) when rain falls in Lagos forget it the transport fare will always be high, infact sometimes you wont see buses, which make some people trek or enter bike to their destinations or if there is so much crowd that means so much money for danfo buses(yellow buses). Equally from obalende or cms, people usually would want to go to locations inside Victoria island or ikoyi you would need to enter buses to go around, do you know from obalende to bonny camp starts from ₦100 or national open university of Nigeria or Ikeja where you have to take keke to opebi, oregun or any place in Ikeja starts from ₦100.

We will start our destinations from places like Iyana ipaja, ikotun and end at the work place locations like yaba, obalende/cms, lekki/ajah, ikeja. We excluded places like abule egba because the cost of transportation from those places are very high compared to Iyana ipaja as more people enter transport from Iyana ipaja.

We are putting the average salary of the Lagos Working Class at ₦70,000 Monthly, we will be using this to

As you can see Lagosians spend the same amount on Transport and Rent per year.
