Politics / Human Rights Lawyer Petitions Police IG Over Assault On Enugu Female Officer by CowHard: 1:05pm On Mar 19, 2022 |
Human Right lawyer, Barrister Onuora Odo has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba over the assault and dehumanization meted on Sergeant Helen Onoja in Enugu, allegedly by her superior, one ACP Okenla Oluseyi, urging the police boss to wade into the matter with a view of not only investigating the incidence, but ensuring that those found culpable are made to face the full wrath of the law. Copies of the petition obtained by Oceanicnews indicates that the petition was submitted at the force headquarters on Monday, March 14, 2022. It was also gathered from a reliable source that the petition has been acknowledged, approved and case assigned to an officer whose identity was yet to be made public as at the time of going to press, for investigation. Recall that ACP Okenla Oluseyi in collaboration with his orderly, one Emmanuel Orji, at Abakpa Nike Area Command Enugu, on February 11 2022, allegedly beat up and dumped Sergeant Helen Onoja into the cell for wanting to use the toilet. An eyewitness who narrated the story to Sahara Reporters said: “As she was going into our office which is the Area Command to answer the call of nature, our ‘Oga’ (boss), ACP Okenla saw her and ordered her to go back to her traffic point despite the officer explaining to him that she wanted to use the toilet. “I was there, the woman immediately obeyed him and returned to the junction without using the toilet. While back on her duty post, ACP Okenla sent Cpl Daniel Onyia to go and call her for him. “On her way back to our office, ACP Okenla blocked her with his orderly at the gate and started brutalising her; we were shocked. They started kicking this woman I learnt is a nursing mother with shoes. She was really beaten and dragged on the dusty side of the road like a common criminal in a police uniform in public for no justifiable reason. “She was subsequently bundled inside a police cell with injuries. The Area Commander threatened that he would treat her like a common criminal and nothing would happen. I’m not surprised by his statement though because he is known for assaulting those of us working directly under him. “The woman was detained overnight and released around 10 am the following day. And as if that was not enough for a nursing mother, this man who doesn’t have the fear of God at all followed the lady up with disciplinary action. I heard him vowing to ruin her career. “He said and I quote: ‘I will deal with you whether you like it or not, I think you want to become an Inspector, let me see how you will wear the rank’. This is a mother of four children I learnt has been using her little salary to take care of her family. “Till now, we don’t know what this policewoman did to ACP Okenla. Age-wise, they aren’t mates. In terms of ranks, the difference is clear, so why would he just punish an innocent officer for an unknown reason? The police authorities should look at this injustice, even those of us working under Okenla are afraid of what will happen to us soon.” https://oceanicnews.com.ng/human-right-lawyer-petitions-police-ig-over-assault-on-enugu-female-officer/

Now I understand that these killings being blamed on IPOB are all false. This particular incident, the slain commander has been on the trail of aggrieved youths for years after gruesomely murdering youths of Enugu Ezike in collaboration with the now disbanded SARS people. In fact, few years ago, he escaped assassination attempt when his office and home were attacked by gun men probably on revenge mission. Their operational vehicle was also burnt that year. People have been complaining of the man's high handedness. |

Politics / How Ayogu Eze Tripled APC Membership From 63,000 To 184,294 In Enugu by CowHard: 5:48pm On Jun 23, 2021 |
How Ayogu Eze Tripled APC Membership From 63,000 To 184,294 In Enugu All may not have been heard of the hand behind the burgeoning membership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Enugu State chapter. The party which came into existence before the 2015 general elections after merging with the ACN, CPC and a fraction of APGA has continued to grow in strength and membership after successfully wrestling power from People's Democratic Party (PDP). Speaking at a news conference in Abuja to address the purported suspension of Senator Ayogu Eze, the state Chairman of the party, Dr. Ben Nwoye described senator Eze who was the party's candidate for the 2019 state governorship election as a man of the people whose influence immensely increased the number of registered party members in the state. He said; “Yesterday we saw reports in a section of the media misinforming people that the distinguished Senator Ayogu Eze was suspended from the party. That cannot be further from the truth. The distinguished Senator Ayogu Eze is a well respected member of APC in Enugu State and indeed South East and at the national level. He joined the party and he ran for Governorship, got the ticket and because of his popularity has taken the party to greater heights. “Very recently, he received a vote of confidence based on what he had done to grow the party beginning with most recently, our membership registration. His efforts cumulated into tripling the number of registered members of APC in Enugu State. We have independent people who could verify that. The chairman of the registration committee for the state, distinguished Senator Jonathan Zwingina was in Enugu State and he hosted him and other members of the committee. He made sure we had a great turn out of members. “Through the help of the leadership of Sen. Ayogu Eze and other leaders, we have risen from 63, 000 to 184, 294 registered members. These are real members and not made up. “Before that, during the pandemic, Sen. Eze donated immensely to our purse making it possible for the outreach which we did in 2020 and early 2021. We were able to procure relief materials and visited hospitals, homes for the elderly, disabled and orphans. He also regularly provided for members of the party”. Nwoye accused a former chairman of APC Ward 7, Mr. Nwokedi Ugwuoke of allowing himself to be used to embarrass the APC. He said; “So, it came to my notice that a former Chairman who had been removed may have connived with people and started peddling falsehood, fake news that the distinguished Senator has been suspended from the party. So, this is not true. This is pure falsehood, sponsored news item that is only meant to finish the already risen profile of the senator. “His caretaker executive of the ward had duly removed him according to our constitution. The fact is that his own caretaker executives passed a vote of no confidence against him unbeknownst to Sen. Eze or anyone including myself. They brought a letter that following the due process, they had removed him and brought in another gentleman, Comrade Obeta as Chairman of the Ward. Sen. Eze has no hand in whatever happened to the former Chairman. It was the handiwork of mischief makers to embarrass him. “As of the time he wrote the letter purportedly suspending Sen. Eze, he was no longer the Chairman of Ozzi, Ward 7. We have 260 wards and 17 local governments in Enugu State. So, one out of 260 rushed down somewhere to Abuja and engaged fake news merchants. It was a hatchet job and we won’t allow that to stand because we have grown this party to this point. “I have reached out to the national secretariat and other leaders and I have not been able to find out who identifued this individual as Chairman of Ozzi Ward 7”. He concluded https://oceanicnews.com.ng/how-ayogu-eze-tripled-apc-membership-from-63000-to-184294-in-enugu/ |
