Enugu Comedian and owner of Creative Greatest comedy house Odinakachukwu Eze has gifted his mother a bungalow in the village.

I am from umuida community, same place with the mad man so i cn tell you the only mistake from the news is that the man is from umuaji and not inere . Umuida give birth to umuonu, nkpor, inere, umuadaogwa, and umuaji . I got to know the mad man since my primary school at inere. He is also perfect and one of the best when it come to making local basket (abo, nkata, and co). Inere has a market square (nkwo ida), thats were the man normally stay, maybe that why they said he is frm inere

The story of Umuida Community in Igbo Eze North Local Government area of Enugu state is never complete without the mention of a certain mentally challenged man named Johnson Otagba.

Mr Otagba who hails from Iñere village has continued to occupy a special spot in the history of the community having turned out to be the first person to kickstart the project of building a storey building in the community.

The dreadlock-wearing man who started the construction of his house which turned out to be the first storey building in the community in the 80s, according to findings.

The visibly and mentally challenged man also known Kpekwure by locals, sources revealed, singlehandedly sourced for the building materials of his house and prosecuted the job himself without involving the services of engineers and mason workers despite his mental state.

When a team of Oceanicnews reporters visited him at his residence, he was seen cohabiting with a fellow mentally challenged woman. Though he wasn’t hostile, the landlord and owner of a storey building acknowledged greetings reporters from the first floor of his dangerously bent building showed no interest in responding to posers from his uninvited visitors.

Sources in the village revealed that it has been a tradition for Mr Johnson to pick fellow mentally challenged women at the market and bring them home for cohabitation.

When Oceanicnews correspondent visited, his house which has remained uncompleted for ages was seen standing with funny architectural designs.
The ground floor has broken mirrors and glasses fitted on the wall.

Residents expressed regret that a man who has the attributes of a genius got afflicted with mental health at the earliest stage of his life this depriving the village of tapping from the obvious potentials of Mr Otagba. Stressing further, they said that it has remained a mystery to people, how a man in a mentally challenged state could come up with the thought of building not just a house, but a storey building and still went ahead to ensure his dreams came to pass. They however expressed shock that the derkins of the two storey building has continued to withstand the test of time while some projects done by certified engineers are reportedly collapsing.

In an Igbo parlance, there's this proverb that goes thus: ala adighi mma bu uru ndi nze.
What that empirically means is that in every ugly situation, there's definitely, a certain group of individuals that are benefiting from the charade. But does this really sound strange to any discerning ear? Even with the knowledge that casket merchants make fortune only when misfortune befell others?

As the world continues to battle the global pandemic, the dreaded coronavirus(covid-19), losers and winners are inevitability sprouting from many angles. In countries with severe cases of the virus, of course, casket merchants are smiling to the bank amidst the wailings of bereaved families.
Chemicals(for embalmment) and other health products are in high demands.

Back to the country where there's lesser cases of the virus, losers and winners are also emerging. Ranging from food vendors to health products dealers. From politicians to men with political and economic ambition.
Everyone now licks fingers from the global misfortune. After all, the world is not ending from here.

As many 'good spirited individuals' continue to make monetary donations to the federal government to help provide relief materials to her citizens, we expected that, having over #15B in cash from donations, that relief items would have reached the nooks and crannies of the nation. It's on record that the foremost business mogul and CEO of Dangote groups, Aliko Dangote led other donors with the sum of over #2B(two billion naira). It's also reported that the president recently gave a directive for the customs to release all foreign rice confiscated from smugglers.

In fact, there has been adequate 'directives' for the humongous funds realized from donations to be efficiently distributed amongst the people. The problem however, is that there has been no corresponding compliance to the 'directives'. Suffix to opine that such development is more or less a recipe for embezzlement, diversion and misappropriation of funds gotten as a result of COVID-19 pandemic.

At state and local government levels, monetary donations are also being made. Though, in some cases, food items are made available to some mayors for onwards delivery to the poor and vulnerable ones. What stopped donors from directly giving the items to the poor and needy appears to be a puzzle to everyone.
What am I even talking about, wait, didn't financial institutions with databases of the poor and vulnerable not release money to the federal government, instead of wiring same directly to their customers accounts?

Opportunity, according to Igbo high life legend, Oliver D'Coque comes but once.
This appears to be an opportunity to cement one's place in the society. Either for political or economic gains.
This is an opportunity for some compromising security men stationed at borders to smile home with good cash.

This is an opportunity for food vendors to hike the price of food items and make good sales afterwards. Some local vigilante groups saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that local markets are shut are daily smiling to the bank as erring shop owners part with some money when caught transacting business as the lockdown lasts.
Definitely, new houses will be built from the proceeds from this pandemic as it has been a bountiful harvest to some individuals.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to ravage the world, expect more donations to the federal, state and local governments. Opportunity to endear oneself to the hearts of the government has presented itself. Expect politicians to use this period to 'shine'. Images are now printed on relief materials and distributed to those lucky enough to receive them.

Religious men are not being left out. Many have successfully produced 'anti-coronavirus' oils, stickers and water and sold to members at an exorbitant rate. This is at a time scientists are still yet to produce vaccines to combat the dreaded disease.
Some freestyle clergymen, as the government banned all forms of gathering, devised means to stay afloat by introducing electronic tithe payment system. What have we not seen? Religious, political and economic exploitation are on the rise. These gladiators are the winners in the COVID-19 pandemic.

The poor that have been shortchanged are the losers. They lost it all. Their business, their ability to feed ,name them. The poor have no access to the virus testing machines. Only the rich are being tested and treated. The poor may even die of the disease without the public being in the know.
Indeed, there are winners and losers in every situation.

A married man, popularly known as Badoo in Umuaji village, Umuida community in Igbo Eze North local government areas of Enugu state has allegedly defiled a primary 5 pupil in an uncompleted building in the village.

The victim(name withheld), while narrating to our reporter how the incident happened on her hospital bed at Chimamanda hospital Umuaji, said the suspect waylaid her while she was taking firewood to her niece that lived within the area.

According to her: “He stopped me and dragged me to an uncompleted building where he forcefully had carnal knowledge of me”.
She continued and stated that it took the intervention of a passerby who came and met her in the pool of her own blood and raised alarm.

She concluded by stating that she needs justice. Her father when contacted, regretted the ugly incident and called for the public to help get the perpetrator of the dastardly act to book. He lamented that his poor background made the vigilante group to release the suspect without taking the necessary actions. He equally appealed to the general public and NGOs to come to his daughter’s aid.

It was learnt that the suspect was subsequently arrested by the local vigilante group in the village, who later released him without handing him to the police for necessary actions.
It was also established that the youths of the village prevented everyone from taking pictures of the suspect while he was being paraded by the vigilante group.

Meet The Blind Vulcanizer And Mechanic In Enugu, His Demands From The Government

For Mr Emeka Abugu, his case is more than the saying that there’s ability in disability.

His ability to loose, patch, pumb, tighten and service motorcycle carburetors could be best described as a miracle as it defies all scientific tenets.

When our reporter visited Mr Emeka at his kiosk in Orie Umuaji, a village in Umuida community, Igbo Eze North local government areas of Enugu state, he was busy attending to his numerous customers whose motorcycle tyres either got deflated or punctured by sharp objects.

Fortunately for our reporter, his motorcycle tyre got punctured few minutes to Mr Emeka’s shed, so he had all the times to engage him while he attended to him.

Narrating how he ended up blind and his ability to set up a workshop in a state of blindness, Emeka narrated:

“I lost my two eyes when I was a kid to untreated cases of measles and other diseases.

My father was a bicycle repairer and I spent so much time in his workshop where I gradually learnt the works of patching bicycle tyres despite my challenges.

” However, when I mastered the acts after spending over ten years with my father, I decided to go into motorcycle repairing and spent many years as a result of my blindness.

Today, I can not only render vulcanizing services, I can equally service motorcycle carburetors and other mechanical works”.

Emeka is married with seven children. When teased by our reporter how he was able to have so many children, he replied amidst laughter:

“I lost my sight but not my ‘manhood’, more over, my wife delivered two sets of twins.”

Emeka stated that he got married and built a small house from the proceeds of his business.
When he was asked on the help he would like the government and private individuals to render to him, he stressed:

“I would like if the government or private individuals help stock my kiosk with goods(tubes and other motorcycle parts) so I can be able to train my seven children from the proceeds” he concluded.

Oceanicnews reports that a soldier has butchered a woman inside St Theresa Catholic Church Umuida, Igbo Eze North local government of the state. This happened yesterday the 4th day of November 2019.

It was gathered that the soldier whose identity was yet to be ascertained at the time of filling this report, boarded a bike at MCC junction Ogrute to Umuaji village. However, on getting to the destination, he insisted that the Okada rider takes him farther into a nearby village.

Trouble started when, on getting to the village which is the location of the Catholic church, the soldier again insisted he be taken up the mountain, a request that the Okada rider turned down. As the disagreement continued, a man with cutlass on his motorcycle passed and on sighting the both, stopped to broker peace between them.

While the peacemaker was mediating on behalf of the Okada rider, the soldier grabbed the cutlass on his motorcycle and gave both men a hot chase.
They both ran upward, towards the direction of the Church building. Pandemonium immediately ensued as parishioners ran at different directions.

The victim then ran into the chapel where the soldier caught up with her and butchered her.
It took the intervention of youths in the community who wrestled the soldier man to the ground.

When our reporter visited the scene of the incident, a team of military policemen were seen in a meeting with the parish priests.
The phone number of the DPO Ogrute police station wasn’t reachable for further comments.
The victim is reportedly battling for her life in the hospital.

As mixed reactions have continued to trail the closure of Akanu Ibiam international airport Enugu for major repairs, the south East governors under the auspice of South east governors forum, wrote to the president of federal republic of Nigeria Mohammed Buhari.

In a letter signed by Engr Dave Umahi the chairman of the forum and sent to the president said: “We plead with Mr. President that we publish this letter to assuage our people’s feelings who erroneously think that no efforts are being made by the leaders of the South East to tackle insecurity and economic challenges facing the zone and to let them know that her leaders before now have been working very hard without making noise as issues of security must not be discussed in the public,”

The letter to President Buhari pleaded for a delayed commencement of works at the airport, saying that the postponement of the closure of the Enugu airport will allow adequate arrangements to be made for travellers. It also urged the president to heed to their initial plea to ban herders from moving in the region on foot.

What one can deduce from the whole letter writing is an aggravated show of 'eyes service' and a height of leaders insensitivity to the plights of the masses.
When has it become the duty of the president to ban herders from moving on foot when states are empowered to enact laws to safeguard their respective states.
Isn't it funny that the same leaders that have been banning Okada riders in their respective states from the comfort of their homes are now on their knees, pleading with the president to intervene in the insecurities rocking their States when they legally have all it takes to curb the herdsmen excesses.

When the then governor of Lagos state Raji Fashola rounded up and dumped hundreds of Igbo destitute under the upper Iweka bridge in Onitsha, he made no contact nor sought the approval of the then president.
The immediate past governor of Ekiti state also banned open grazing in his state without first writing a 'communiqué' to the president.

Hasn't it been said that peoples way of life defines their law? The wanton destruction of lives and properties by armed herdsmen is alien to the culture of Igbo land, just as pig farming is to the north. In the North, beers and other alcoholic drinks are destroyed citing the dictates of the Sharia law.
When will our leaders stop playing politics with the lives of the people they swore to protect?

As if that wasn't enough, they went ahead to plead with the president to delay commencement of works at the Enugu airport. What an unbridled display of callousness!!
Where were the South East governors forum when the budget for works on the airport was cut from the initial #2B to a paltry #500M by the Senate?

Where went the south east governors when FAAN first announced the plans to close the airport so as to effect major repairs on the runway?

Of course they were busy with their day-to-day business of politicking.
They have suddenly found their voice, realizing the importance of providing security for travellers thus writing to the president to enable them put their house in order, while air travellers continue to 'cheat death' as they continue making use of the dilapidated structures of the airport.

When federal government shut down the Abuja international airport and diverted travelers to the Kaduna state airport, the governor of the state didn't write Buhari to delay the diversion of travelers to his state, rather he said this:
“I’m saying that no matter what anybody said last week, I’m assuring Nigerians that the Abuja–Kaduna road is quite safe now and will be so following the measures put in place by the various security agencies.
“But I’m saying, as the governor of the state, based on the security measures put in place, I’m confident that the road is safe, and I drive on that road,’’

I want to applaud the president for ignoring the ignominious chants of south east governors as works have commenced at the airport. That was a good show of 'stubbornness'

It is quite unfortunate that our elected officials are exhibiting this gross neglect of their primary duties of governance and legislature that will be of benefit to the South East region and this conduct is unconscionable, selfish, crudely depressing and revealing of their incapacity to be leaders that our people put their trust in.

It was a tensed atmosphere at far away Nuremberg Germany. It is a day that will go down as an unforgettable one in the politics and governance of the federal republic of Nigeria.
A civil interaction between the immediate past deputy Senate president of Nigeria, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu and some group of Nigerians of Igbo descents suddenly turned rowdy and eventually led to verbal and physical assault meted on the distinguished senator representing the good people of Enugu West senatorial district.

Predictably, condemnations have trailed the embarrassment cum harassment meted on on the four-time Senator and a man that has occupied the deputy Senate post for a record twelve years.
While many, from the prisms of political affiliation, sees the attack as being directed at the political party on whose template the senator operates on, others opine that it's an attack against the entire Igbo land.

However, the question that has been begging for answer is how an attack against Ekweremadu became an attack against Igbo land.
Without mincing words, I will categorically state that the incident in Nuremberg Germany is more or less a manifestation of the rots in the land and the attendant hatred burning in the hearts of the masses.
Politicians from this part of the world have, on several occasions, made it clear to the masses that the wellbeing of themselves, families, extended families, concubines etc, are primary to them on assumption of office.
They immediately send their wads abroad for studies while they frequent overseas all at the expense of tax payers money. Yet, the minimum wage of #30k has proven to be a rocket science in implementation.

Senator Ike Ekweremadu may have been the first to be assaulted but the fact that, going by the political narrative currently rocking Igbo land, more attacks are underway as the people appear to have woken from slumber.
Just recently, save for the intervention of the independent corrupt practices commission(ICPC), empowerment items given to a senator to be shared to his constituents would have either been sold or decayed at the backyard of the senator.

Our politicians both at appointive and elective political positions have continued to exploit and suppress the people with some deceptive political gimmicks and machineries.
Senator Ekweremadu, though representing the people of Enugu west, occupied the deputy Senate post for record twelve years without anything to show for it.
In fact, under his watchful eyes, billions of naira budgeted for the Akanu Ibiam airport was slashed to a meagre #500M by the senators.

Was it not an attack against the entire Igbo land for our senators to sit and watch while funds earmarked for the development of the region got slashed and mutilated?
During the reign of Good luck Jonathan, Igbos occupied the most sensitive positions in the country. How did that translate or contributed to the development of the region?

They instead chose to embezzle as much as they could. Second Niger bridge was only awarded on the pages of newspaper. Enugu-Onitsha express road wasn't considered for reconstruction. Despite having the minister of power, there was no power project anywhere in the east. They decided to buy choice properties abroad. Spent billions of naira on jewelry, yacht, cars etc.

They literally starved the people they were to represent. The youths have all taken into crime abroad. Our ladies are on their way to Oman to be used as a sex slave.
Governors are still embezzling, senators are competing with the House of reps members on the game of public funds diversion hence the dilapidated structures everywhere.

The economy of the East have gone comatose. You must make use of seaports and airports in far away Lagos state. We say we are being hated yet we hate ourselves the most. The worst is that you dare not protest against these fragrant show of incompetence. The few that dared got teargassed, beaten and dumped inside awaiting black Maria.
Buy for how long do they think they can suppress the people with brute force?

The Dutch, in the year 1617, killed and ate their prime minister to protest the hunger in the land.
It's on record that when poverty reached a breaking point, the French beheaded their entire leadership class.
Again, when 90% of Russians couldn't find bread to eat, the Russians shot the entire royal families in the land.
When Mussolini misled Italians and proved to be an incompetent bigot, they hung him upside down from a pole.

There's no difference between the above incidents and the attack on Ekweremadu in Germany. It might have occurred in a foreign land but an American electronic executive said "I want a revolution and I want it to start in Controville".
A Spanish writer and philosopher José Ortega also said " revolution is not the uprising against preexisting order, but a setting up of a new order contradictory to the traditional one".

The lesson to be learnt here is that frustration when stretched to the elastic limit, can no longer be hidden nor smouldered.
Our politicians should learn from this and turn a new life. Posterity will always be there, even when you're gone!!
The attack on Ekweremadu should be seen as an attack against the bad leadership style and misrepresentation that have been the trademark of our leaders.
It should be seen as an attack against the infrastructure decay in the Igbo land.
