You mean Nigerians? As far as i can tell, Nigerians forced APC on themselves because of greed and stupidity. The lure of 5k a month was too much to resist. Even when there was evidence to the fact that it was not possible. They just couldn't help being Nigerians. You all should look in the mirror; You are the reason Nigeria is phucked up not APC.

Crime / Nigerian Man Hacked Thousands Of Global Oil & Gas And Energy Firms by crackerspub: 7:16pm On Aug 28, 2017
The IT security researchers at CheckPoint cyber security firm headquartered in Israel and the US has revealed that the recent series of cyber crimes against oil (1), mining (2), construction, and energy sector organizations (3) were perpetrated by a young hacker and not any nation-state sponsored hacker group. It comes as a big surprise considering that the hacking campaign in which various high profile firms across the globe were targeted, were carried out by a lone hacker.

In its official blog post released on August 15th, CheckPoint stated that the hacker uses the motto “Get Rich or Die Trying” on social media. Moreover, the hacker is in his mid-20s and is a Nigerian national who used phishing and malware infection to compromise over 4,000 computers.The huge scale of the attacks suggests that the hacker had access to extensive resources, but that is not the case. Despite having poor operational security, he was successful in hacking into the networks of 14 organizations, but that’s also the reason why researchers were able to detect and monitor his actions.

The hacker used a remote access Trojan called NetWire and a keylogger called Hawkeye to steal login details and financial information from targeted organizations. The RAT was used to gain control of infected systems while the keylogging program helped in stealing the login credentials. It is worth noting that the attacks were directed towards the financial staff employed in different sectors and regions. For instance, the Middle East and Europe based energy and transportation firms were attacked through phishing. The attacker sent an email that appeared to be sent by Saudi Aramco, a noteworthy oil, and gas firm. Email addresses from Yahoo domains were used, and the hacker didn’t even try to hide the addresses from being identified, which security experts’ claim was an amateurish act.

His targets included a transportation company in Abu Dhabi, an energy company in Croatia, Egypt based mining firm, Dubai based construction company, another construction firm in Germany and an oil & gas firm in Kuwait.

The campaign was launched in April 2017, but the activities of the hacker were identified after he had claimed several targets. A series of suspicious emails were detected, which were Phishing scams. The emails were pretty unconvincing as these contained spelling mistakes and generic subjects. The recipient was referred to as Sir or Ms. Recipient was asked to download an attachment, which asked for enabling macro and installed two different types of malware.

The name of the hacker hasn’t been revealed by CheckPoint but the company did acknowledge that he lives somewhere near the capital city in Nigeria. The security firm is helping local law enforcement for locating the cyber criminal. The revelations point out a key factor that phishing still remains a major threat to businesses around the world; in this campaign, the hacker tricked the firm’s financial staff to give away bank details of the firm. Since Saudi Aramco is among the world’s top exporters of natural gas and crude oil, use of its name in the email was enough to attract the victim. Through his “crude and unsophisticated” phish campaign, the Nigerian hacker managed to make thousands of dollars but the exact figure hasn’t been disclosed as yet. “Even though this individual is using low-quality phishing emails, and generic malware which is easy to find online, his campaign has still been able to infect several organizations. It shows just how easy it is for a relatively unskilled hacker to launch a large-scale campaign that successfully breaches the defenses of even large companies, enabling them to commit fraud,” said Horowitz.

Researchers urge that organizations need to educate employees regarding security etiquettes as they must remain cautious in opening emails even if these seem to be sent by legit companies or individuals.

Crime / Nigerian Man Sentenced To Prison For Hacking And Fraud Scheme by crackerspub: 6:51pm On Aug 28, 2017
UTICA, NEW YORK – Obinna Obioha, age 31, and a citizen of Nigeria, was sentenced today to serve 51 months in prison for operating a fraud scheme that stole millions of dollars from businesses in the United States and other countries. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Grant C. Jaquith and Vadim D. Thomas, Special Agent in Charge of the Albany Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

“Obioha, working from Nigeria, was a central figure in a fraud scheme using digital disguises and deceit to bilk businesses out of millions of dollars. We will continue to track down and bring to justice cyber criminals like Obioha no matter where they operate. I thank the FBI for its terrific work in this case identifying and apprehending Obioha,” said Acting United States Attorney Grant C. Jaquith. FBI Special Agent in Charge Vadim D. Thomas said: “These schemes can rob individuals and businesses of their livelihood. Cyber-crime is a serious threat and the FBI is prepared to go to any lengths to apprehend those like Obioha.”

As part of his guilty plea to wire fraud in April 2017, Obioha admitted that, while in Nigeria, he worked with and instructed others to hack into computers and email accounts used by dozens of victims in the United States and around the world. The organization infiltrated victims’ computers and email accounts using malicious software (“malware”). After monitoring victims’ information to identify imminent commercial transactions, Obioha and his associates created knockoff email addresses that appeared similar to – but varied slightly from – victims’ legitimate email addresses.

Obioha and his associates used those bogus email accounts to send fraudulent invoices to victims, instructing them to wire funds to bank accounts controlled by Obioha and his associates, under the pretense that the wires were payments for actual deals that had been previously negotiated by the victims. Obioha admitted that between January and September 2016, he was involved in at least 50 wire transfers, and that about $6.5 million was sent by wire to bank accounts that he and his associates controlled. The accounts received money from fraud victims in New York, Florida, Illinois, Ohio, and Texas, among other places.

During today’s sentencing, U.S. District Judge Donald N. Hurd described Obioha as “right in the middle of the action” in “very sophisticated criminal activity” designed to achieve “millions of dollars in illegal funds.”

Obioha was arrested on October 6, 2016, after flying from Lagos, Nigeria, to JFK International Airport. He has been in custody since that time.

What plan do you people have on ground to house the millions of Igbos you are asking to come back to Ala Igbo? Or you think it is just to tell them to come back and then abandon them to their fate without housing or jobs?

Politics / Re: Nnamdi Kanu Goes Into Hiding As Fg Asks Court To Revoke Bail(pic) by crackerspub: 5:01am On Aug 26, 2017
KingMicky3286:
[s]The Federal Government has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to revoke the bail granted the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, who is being prosecuted along with others on treasonable felony charges.

The prosecution made this request in an application it filed before the court , which was also served on Kanu on Friday.
NaijaCabals.com had exclusively reported on July 22, 2017, that there were plans by the Federal Government to ask the court to revoke the bail granted Kanu on April 25, 2017.

The application seeking the revocation of Kanu’s bail was released to journalists in Abuja on Friday by the Special Assistant to the Attorney-General of the Federation on Media and Publicity, Mr. Salihu Isah.

Kanu, had earlier in his application filed on July 1, 2017, urged the court to vary the conditions of the bail granted him by the court on April 25, 2017.

But the Federal Government hinged its fresh motion seeking the revocation of Kanu’s bail on the grounds that the IPOB leader had flouted the terms and conditions of the bail.

In its fresh application, the Federal Government asked the court to revoke the bail granted Kanu and order his immediate arrest by the police.

The Federal Government’s counter-affidavit filed in support of the motion and deposed to by a litigation clerk in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions pieced together Kanu’s alleged acts of serial violation of the bail conditions imposed by the court.

The prosecution said instead of using the opportunity of his bail to attend to his health needs, Kanu went ahead to inaugurate a security outfit known as Biafra Security Service.

The prosecution said this constituted a threat to national security.

It recalled that in violation of the bail conditions, Kanu, held a rally at his residence in his hometown, Afara-UkwuIbeku in Umuahia, Abia State on May 26 and 27, 2017, with the said rally attracting a crowd exceeding 10 persons in violation of the bail conditions.

The prosecution said it attached video clips of the said events to the counter-affidavit as exhibits.

The counter-affidavit read in part, “That the 1st defendant/applicant (Kanu) is standing trial for alleged offences of conspiracy to commit acts of treasonable felony, treasonable felony and other related offences before this Honourable Court;

“That the offences for which he is standing trial are not ordinarily bailable;

“That the court, notwithstanding, granted bail to the 1st defendant/respondent on health grounds on April 2017;

“That among other conditions for the bail of the 1st defendant are as follows:

“That he should not be seen in a crowd exceeding 10 people; that he should not grant any press interviews, hold or attend any rallies; And that he should file in court medical updates of his health status every month;

“That the bail condition was perfected by the defendant/applicant which he is currently enjoying;

“That rather than observing all the conditions, the 1st defendant/respondent in flagrant disobedience to the court order flouted all conditions given by the court;

“That the defendant held a rally at his residence in his hometown, Afara-UkwuIbeku in Umuahia, Abia State;

“That the said rally with a crowd exceeding 10 persons was captured in a video published on the 1st June 2017, and circulated throughout the length and breadth of Nigeria and beyond through the Internet platform of YouTube;

“That the YouTube video was downloaded and is attached to this affidavit and marked NK1;

“That the 1st defendant equally incited his members to disrupt, disallow and boycott elections in the South-East states, starting with the Anambra State gubernatorial election scheduled for November 18, 2017, if the Federal Government failed to hold a referendum for the realisation of the state of Biafra;

“That the bail granted the defendant/applicant was to enable him to go and take care of his health and not for any other purpose;

“That instead of the 1st defendant to use the opportunity to attend to his health needs, he has in furtherance of the offence charged, inaugurated a security outfit known as (the) Biafra Security Service;

“That his action is a serious threat to (the) security of this country as well as a threat to national unity.

“That from the deposition in the affidavit in support of this application, it is clear that the essence of the bail granted the 1st defendant/applicant is defeated;

“That it will serve the best interest of justice to grant this application as the 1st defendant/respondent will not be prejudiced.”

The Federal Government, therefore, sought the rearrest and commitment of Kanu to “custody pending trial”.

Kanu had argued in his earlier application that the bail conditions were excessive while maintaining that by virtue of Section 36(5) of the 1999 Constitution, he was presumed innocent.

The charges against the defendants included conspiracy and treasonable felony by allegedly conspiring among themselves to broadcast on Radio Biafra agitation for the secession of Republic of Biafra from Nigeria.

They were also accused of improper importation of goods and illegal possession of firearms.

Among the charges was also the publication of defamatory matter by allegedly referring to the then President-elect, Maj-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and now President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as “a paedophile, a terrorist, an idiot, and an embodiment of evil” in a broadcast on Radio Biafra on April 28, 2015.

The trial has been adjourned until October 17. It has reveled that Nnamdi Kanu has gone into hiding on hearing the news..[/s]

Crime / Nigeria Ranked First In Internet-based Criminal Activities In Africa by crackerspub: 10:33pm On Aug 25, 2017
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) disclosed that Nigeria currently ranks third globally in cybercrimes. Nigeria comes behind the United Kingdom and the United States of America. Prof. Umar Danbatta, the Director General of NCC disclosed this at the ongoing 2017 Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association in Lagos, Nigeria. Mr Danbatta stated that the number of internet users in Nigeria has hit about 91.6 million, and also increase cubercrime activities.

“About N127 billion was the estimated loss to cybercrime in Nigeria in 2015; Nigeria ranks third in global internet crimes behind the UK and U.S.
A critical factor militating against Africa’s economic resurgence is the weakness of its institutions.
“Nigeria ranks 169 out of 199 on the World Bank’s ease of doing business rankings. While we are in a middle of a revolution and the rise of what we call the networked society.
“The NCC stipulates the laws of engagement that will make the cyberspace safe and ensure the confidence as well as the safety of the cyberspace. There are benefits and risks of the use of cyberspace and both have to be properly managed,” Danbatta told the gathering.
Cybercrime is a major threat to financial institutions and other internet-based businesses across the globe. In 2016, the world economy lost about $500 billion to cybercrime. In Africa, the cost of cybercrime activities to major economies are estimated as - $573 million for South Africa, $500 million for Nigeria and $36 million for Kenya. Mr Bisi Adebutu of Premier Lotto also remarked that the internet has positively affected betting business in Nigeria.
"Premier Lotto has moved from the streets to the internet, we have faced certain challenges including paying those who do business with us.
"Gaming is very popular on the internet and fraud is one to the challenges we have. If we apprehend an individual trying to perpetrate fraud, we block their access to us,” Adebutu noted.

Crime / Nigerian Hacker Targets Companies Worldwide by crackerspub: 8:05pm On Aug 24, 2017
Check Point a security company recently conducted an investigation which reveals that a single hacker at Lagos, Nigeria has been trying hacking the systems of 4,000-and-more organizations worldwide employing obsolete tools and rudimentary techniques.

Even though security professionals would find the mode-of-operation hilariously trivial, yet the attacker attained success within no less than 14 instances that security researchers have confirmed.

According to the website www.securityweek.com, Check Point investigators stated that the assaults aimed on different companies within sectors like manufacturing, oil & gas, construction and banking, so that the hacker could steal data as well as commit fraud.

Twelve companies or may be more substantiated they had contracted the infection while the campaign was on, reported Check Point. These companies included an Abu Dhabi-based transportation firm; a Croatia-based marine & energy tackling firm; an Egypt-based mining company; one Kuwait-located oil & gas company; a Dubai-based construction firm; and one Germany-based construction firm. Although the attack was on a large scale, the perpetrators weren't any astute group of cyber-criminals alternatively any state actor, rather one more or less unskilled man aged between 24 and 26, who operated from close to the Nigerian capital, discovered Check Point.

Notably, the assaults were targeted at financial employees of various regions and sectors. One example is of transportation and energy companies based in Europe and Middle East that were assaulted via phishing. Apparently, an e-mail the attacker dispatched seemed as one from Saudi Aramco, one renowned Oil & Gas company. The attacker used electronic mail ids from domains of Yahoo that weren't even masked something security researchers described a clumsy act. Hackread.com posted this, August 16, 2017.

One more worrying thing about the attack was that it targeted infrastructure and energy firms that the unskilled hacker managed to attack easily. Besides, the attacker managed hacking many large organizations too.

Consequently, Check Point pointed out that the above instances outlined the requirement of every organization towards strengthening security at their locations for safeguarding from business e-mail hacks and phishing scams while also spreading awareness among their employees regarding exercising caution while opening e-mails no matter whether their sources were recognizable.
