the coil u swapped points to the fact that that particular coil is bad..................y didnt u replace it??!! |
what atf did you put?.....also did the mechanic bleed off all the air in the system?....if not you could possibly be looking at a rack n pinion seal failure..... |
comparing apples and oranges.. just like comparing nnissan and infinity. camry aint in the same league with avalon...avalon outclasses camry in almost every dept..apart from mpg and maintaince cost |

pls post the vin?..are u sure this is a 2004 model?..........it looks like a 2001 to 2003 model...the 04/05 model has a slight facelift |
pls whats the clearing cost for 1. 2004/2005 rav4 2. 2008 rav4 3. 2010 rav4 all roro, via grimaldi?...whats the price difference btw roro n container? |
what is ur rpm on idle, and what is ur rpm when you turn on the ac, with the car in park. observe the behaviour of the rpm needle n tell us what u observe. what is ur daily movement like?...how many miles do you drive daily...and monthly... the systoms are like a mixture of sludge and head gasket issue...............need the answers to be sure... also confirm that u dont top up ur radiator with water/coolant often |
if u want a car that doesnt consume fuel..either get a toyota prius, a hybrid car[which isnt advisable for naija, due to maintaince]...or get a sedan..like corrola/elantra....most suvs are fuel hogs. rav4 01 to 05 model has the best consumption of small suvs |
still not answered all the questions i asked |
lmao low steaming = low idle @poster. such luxury cars need professional repair, go to nissan service center......big man...big trouble. btw...did u just replace ur battery?..or have any reason to disconnect it? |
lol.....yup avalon is a luxury car,but its fairly reliable, though parts are expensive, but bigman---- big trouble, but since u dont like the cheap/common cars..............u dont hv any other option.......saddle up n buy the avalon or bite the bullet and buy the camry or eod that most folks buy |
yeah, he wud see the sludge if he opens the engine or the sump.............u didnt reply if the oil indicator light on ur dashboard is on or flashing. mobil 1 is sythetic, while mobil xhp is mineral oil.... mobil 1 has high detergent properties..it cleans the engine of sludge.....so interchanging it with mobil xhp in an unregular pattern isnt good at all............there is a pattern u shud follow, if u intend to run mobil 1 on a dirty engine or an engine that is used to mineral oil. also 2months change interval isnt so good depending on ur routine.......what is ur present mileage?..and what mileage do u run in 2 months?...n whats ur daily driving pattern?......all these hv a big effect on the oil. |
start the car, put it in park..note ur rpm, turn on the ac..observe the rpm guage closely...tell us what you noticed and ur rpm values |
the average naija mechanic doesnt understand how to repair the faults of maxima..so run..y dont u try 2003/2002 avalon?..its toyota too |
yeah good comments by siena n ikenna.... but in nigeria where maintainance culture is poor, and poor mechanics abound....few nigerians would want to change their belt, cos the mechanic can install it wrongly and the timing will be off, from there problems would just multiply. my advice to peeps that hv belt driven engines is to take it to reputable mechanics to change the belt, when due..most change is recommended at 90k miles i will take a chain driven engine, OVER A BELT DRIVEN engine any time any day.......if the 2 engines were placed side by side |
speed001: People no longer listen to our problems....lol..are u paying anybody?? anyway back to ur problem..the p1346 code..shows that ur vvti is having a fault...the vvti is variable valve timing..it retards ur engine timing to compensate for vary engine performance...the most common cause of this code ios sludge in the engine..........sludge occurs when u dont change ur oil regularly/use low quality oil etc..the oil instead of flowing turns into coal tar like subtance thus clogging the cams, n giving the vvti error, as the sludge doesnt let the system move smoothly...am suprised ..the oil indicator light should be showing red on ur dasboard...cos the sludge wud hv blocked ur oil lines...thus starving the engine of oil...when last did u change oil ? and what type of oil do u use? |
timing chain is better...lasts almost the life of the vehicle..diff models hv either timing belt or chain..2003 to 2009 toyota 4runner..the v6 engine has a timing chain, while the v8 has timing belt....the 2003 rav4 also has the timing chain while other older models have belt...etc |
2001 to 2003 rav4 have a known gearbox problem, but toyota has resolved the problem in usa and canada. there is also a solution for the gearbox problem ..the fault is in the brainbox |
another tot occured to me..some cars like the 05 pathfinder and some volvo models use the radiator system to cool the transmission/gear fluid...n the two fluids are separated by a membrane, when this membrane somehow fails..the two fluids mix together..thus ruining ur gearbox/transmission......so pls chk and be sure |
ok..i tot as much..being an alumuinm engine, the over heating caused it to warp or even the block to cract..thus changing the top cylinder gasket isnt enough as the warping makes the surface of the top not smooth, thus letting water flow into and mix with engine oil. so chk for warpage first and then check the cylinder heads.....thats the pathway to solving ur problem if u r sure the cylinder heads are good, then its most likely warpage....next time..pls dont use sealant or any adhesive to seal a leaking radiator, u r just delaying the evil day, no sealant can withstand the intense tempreture and pressure in a cars cooling system for long. an 07/08 mazda!!...kai |

the express vin check service has been SUSPENDED.......DUE TO REDUCED PATRONAGE, IT MIGHT BE REACTIVATED @ A FUTURE DATE!. THANKS. |
that is so sick!!!!..........i love the car |
cudnt hv put it better!........ ur top gasket is the most likely culprit........seems u car overheated in the past? |
IGNORANCE IS BLISS!....lol meen this ur story ehhen.....i dey shame for you sef. u let a semi ignorant mechanic spoil ur 06/07 mazda...removed coolant resevoir?.........topping water everyday is normal?.....so he is smarter than the people that put the reservoir in the first place?. i just hv 1 word for u......flleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee from that quack........did u chk the cars/types of cars in his shop b4 u let him touch ur car...methinks he is used to working on 404 n 504 and taxi cabs..he absof,uc.kinglutely has no experience on mordern cars. this ur case tire person...i dont even know where to start giving advice from....cos so many things r sooooooooo wrong |
