only the very rich or the very ignorant buy hybrid cars in nigeria..the head ache isnt worth it...cos very few techinicains are competent to work on the car when it develops a problem..ur best bet now is google.google ur problem, regiuster in carforums..ask for help .toyotanation is a good forum..the hv a highlander hybrid sub forum..u will get immense info there. but nigerian ip addresses are automatically disallowed from registering...

wait based on what ur mechanic - a semi ignorant technician said...u simply went ahead to replace the complete engine of ur 2005 eod?!!.....seems u gat loads of cash floating around!!.

b4 u undertake such projects..its usually best to get a 2nd, 3rd and 4th opinion from other mechanics and preferablly HONDA PLACE.
i blv u dashed ur 'ol trustworthy mechanic' the old engine that was replaced?!!..--- i bet u..he has sold this engine for a good profit...a whole engine doesnt go bad like that...an a 2005 car for that matter.

anyway..back to the matter at hand...pls try n read the owners manual of any vehicle u buy..that way u wudnt be asking this question here...that hole u so wish to block is designed by the car manufacturers to ease pressure and steam into the coolant reservoir!!...so ur car is behaving perfectly....is ur car over heating?...why r u concerned about the water entering the reservoir?..is it affecting u in any way?...gas bubbles trapped in the radiator cud be the culpit..u need to flush the radiator and refill it with good collant..that shud displace any trapped gas bubbles.

also beaware that any engine overhaul done by most mechanics in nigeria always has side effects.....the never ever connect back all the sensors/fittings...many things are left half hazard and the performance of ur car will suffer for it.

cast iron engines are better than aluminuin engines..as aluminuin engines warp n bend when they overheat ..even a lil overheating.
2. timing belt: its recommended u change timing belt every 90k miles..but few nigerians ever do this..they only change the timing belt when the thing cuts while driving the car, and the pathfinder being an intereference engine....a timing belt cutting whilke the vehicle is in motion will ruin a lot of engine components..my advice is change the timing belt of any toks car u buy...while down there...change the water pump too..as all these components hv a service life in yrs/miles

3. the pathfinder is a fuel guzzler...the 05 upwards models are a lot better

FX IS ON A HIGHER SCALE THAN murano..and with the notorious murano gearbox problem..its a no brainer even considering murano...there are many listed on nairaland being offered for very cheap..naija used..n u shud know why

ur problem might be that when the gearbox was changed out, that the mechanic didnt connect back all the sensors/cables that he shud hv.......no car touched by a naija mechanic is ever the same......EVER!!
