xfire: Thanks for your understanding too. I appreciate. I now refrain from answering questions concerning the oil and gas industry here. There are many oil and gas threads on the career section and such questions can be adequately treated in those threads. Or you may send a private mail to me. I will advise accordingly.
This thread is open to all that aspire to achieve a great career and live a life of fulfillment, irrespective of the industry they may be or aim to be. To ensure that we remain on track and maintain the purpose of this thread, I will rather focus on responding to general questions relating to jobs, careers, capacity enhancement, scholarships and education.
To God be the glory!
Cheers.....! Thank you xfire for you've been an inspiration. While I understand your position on this issue I would have loved to read your response to his question as I'm in a similar state. is it possible to also send this reply to me? |

Career › Re: Does STUDENT POLITICS Have Any Significance After School? by crudedude(m): 9:29am On Sep 25, 2014 |
razar: Good morning nairalanders.
This issue has been on my mind for quite a while now.@ the topic, some of you might think it was created by a frustrated Undergraduate (as some students actually see US) but that's not the case. By the special grace of God I am a 1st class student of chemical engineering in federal university in Nigeria. I intend to contest for positions higher than the one I am presently occupying, so please I want to know if what am doing is worth it
(because it is seriously Contending with my academics and I no longer get a clear head like i use to when am reading at times)
.and also if you people think its of any significance in the labour market.
The reason why i'm asking this question here is to get the view of experienced individuals (especially engineers that are practising) on this forum. Please your contributions will be highly appreciated. Thank you In my opinion it doesn't really matter career wise, you won't get an automatic job because you were once SUG president. I also doubt any recruiter will want to read a full page of positions held in school. Do as much as you can but not at the detriment of your academics. That is paramount. What (I feel) is being checked is if you have ever been in leadership or team player positions as you could be asked during interviews or might need them when writing a great personal statement (for post graduate study). That being said the conclusion of the whole matter is not to be all books in school. Join a sports team, a volunteer course, dance troupe, church fellowship, SIFE, Rotaract, Departmental bodies etc, be active and embrace leadership positions as much as your strength permits. |

NairaMode: Ehn ehn? Thanks o.
You guys should not mind all those HR people o. With experience you will understand a lot of things. Making people feel like you are saying rubbish during interviews. Its a lie most of the time. Most graduates are not good in aptitude test I know but once they are able to get to the interview stage I don't believe most people really do that bad as they portray.
Last advice. For me, there is no really right or wrong thing to say during interview. the key is:
Say something smart and always stage confidence even if you are not. This two are priceless. You do know someone can print this and paste in his room right? #Priceless. "Waiter, one more crate of hot Sprite please..." |

Jobs/Vacancies › Re: "We Would Get Back To You" Employers. by crudedude(m): 11:10am On Sep 24, 2014 |
NairaMode: Lol.. With experience you will know how to tackle such issue. Its common and its simply because HR professionals have to be diplomatic in their responses. It is however better if they include that if you don't hear from us between this and that date then you have not been considered for the role.
Whenever I find myself in such a situation this are the method I use.
1) You will understand that I am keenly interested in this job and I would really love to get a feedback from you no matter your decision. Thank you. That makes the HR person to commit him or herself and usually I get a response.
2) Sometimes I simply ask when do we expect to hear from you and usually they will give you a time frame. If I don't hear from them within that period then I call or send an email requesting for feedback which I most times get.
3) Lastly, during the interview process, I ask them: "What kind of employee can you not work with"? and then I get a story of who they want and what they do not want. After their response to me, I further ask them if they feel I fit into that description. The answer you get will generally help a smart person have an expectation of whether to keep dreaming about the job or not.
Lastly, for me it is unhealthy to keep your mind locked on a job or company after an interview or test. If you dont hear from them then contact them. Otherwise, move on and keep aspiring for a better life in this world full of awesome opportunities.
I hope I was able to help. Bros this your response na universal set o. All other responses na sub set. One bitter Kola and hot Sprite for you jare |

Abduletudaye: Hmmm..alright, so gimme some insights if you don't mind.. Insights lol. Its pretty straight forward, buying and selling. You buy stuff and find a 'market' to sell. This 'market' now depends on your ability to network properly. Every endeavour in life has its on set of hitches, obstacles and headaches. These may vary but must be present. Overcoming these odds is what must do if we want to win. Mine has its on challenges to be surmounted too. All I cant say here. There's an importation guide thread on the Tech Market section (I think). Much can be learned there. |
