Health / Vaginal Discharge And Itching? 4 Signs You Should Never Ignore by Crystal70200: 6:37pm On May 09, 2019
Having strange vaginal discharge or any other unpleasant symptoms? It may be a sign that you need to see your doctor.
Yes we know that the vagina does have some healthy discharges every now and then, but when it becomes too much or unpleasant, it could be a warning sign.

While a lot of symptoms an adult woman might experience throughout her lifetime may be harmless, there are some that certainly require you to book an appointment with your gynecologist as soon as possible.

Here are 4 of such symptoms that you should never ignore:

Unusual bleeding/spotting:
Experiencing bleeding when you are not on your period is definitely a red sign you need to get checked out.

No matter how little the blood is, it is not normal to bleed between your periods and this could point to a lot of different complications like infections, fibroids or even cancerous growths.

Do not play doctor on yourself if you ever experience bleeding between periods; go see a professional to make sure everything is okay.

Constant itching:
Vaginal itching is not just inconveniencing and irritating, it is also embarrassing and a sure sign something is wrong.

Minor irritations caused by reaction to cosmetic products, heat or even dirty underwear could cause a little itch that goes away as soon as the underlying cause is removed, but constant itching is a sign of trouble.

When you experience constant itching in your privates, it could be a sign of some serious infection that could cause you a lot of problems if not treated promptly.

Never sit down hoping that it in your privates will go away when you should be heading out to see your doctor.

Unpleasant vaginal discharge:
Most women experience a little vaginal discharge every now and then; this is normal as the vagina needs to stay clean and balanced.

However, if you suddenly start experiencing heavy, thick, unpleasant or foul smelling discharges at any point in time, your body may be trying to tell you something that you certainly should not ignore.

Odd coloured discharges also fall under this category; anything outside clear or milky-white is usually a red sign.

Note that the amount of discharge a woman experiences could increase if she is ovulating, aroused or even breastfeeding; as long as it does not smell badly or have an unusual colour, you are fine.

Have any abnormal discharge checked out by a doctor as soon as possible.

Blisters or rashes:
A woman could find blisters or rashes around her privates for quite a number of reasons, news flash, none of the reasons are good or mild enough to be ignored.

Blisters in the genitals mostly form as a result of sexually transmitted infections, especially genital herpes, and these are not problems you should not take seriously.

If you notice blisters around your privates, do the best you can to avoid scratching it and seek medical help as soon as possible.

Basically, your vagina has different ways of telling you when something is wrong; be kind to yourself and pay attention to the signs.

Get symptoms properly checked out by your doctor and do not sit down hoping the problems will just go away on their own.

Politics / 6 APC Leaders Who May Replace Buhari In 2019 by Crystal70200: 3:52pm On Aug 29, 2017
With the 2019 election campaigns in their beginning phases, it is increasingly clear that President Muhammadu Buhari's health challenges might stand in the way of his 2019 presidential ambitions. It is very likely then that the other All Progressives Congress (APC) bigwigs will position themselves to replace him in the party's primaries.

Below is a list of some politicians likely to replace him and run for president in 2019:

1. Atiku Abubakar
On February 2, 2014, Atiku left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join APC. In 2019, he will be 73 years of age and his current presence in the Nigerian media, suggest the former vice president might run for president in 2019.

2. Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso
In 2015, Kwankwaso unsuccessfully contested the presidential primaries nomination under the opposition All Progressive Congress, but lost to Muhammad Buhari. He is currently a senator representing Kano Central and is likely to try again for presidency in 2019.

3. Bukola Saraki
Saraki is a current member of the APC and previous member of the PDP. He has been the president of the Senate since 2015 and might run for presidency in 2019.

4. Mallam Nasir El- Rufai
He is a member of the APC and was elected as the executive governor of Kaduna state during the 2015 general elections in Nigeria.

5. Ibrahim Shettima Kashim
Shettima is a Nigerian agricultural economist and politician who was elected governor of Borno state, Nigeria in the 26 April 2011 national elections, running on the All Nigeria People's Party (ANPP) platform which is now part of the APC.

6. Rochas Okorocha
Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha is a Nigerian multi-billionaire businessman, education philanthropist and politician from Imo state, Nigeria who won the May 6, 2011, gubernatorial election in Imo state and was reelected for his second term on April 11, 2015.

Which of these politicians do you think can actually succeed?

Politics / All You Need To Know About President Buhari's Address To Nigerians On August 21 by Crystal70200: 4:11pm On Aug 21, 2017
President Muhammadu Buhari has addressed Nigerians live on national television today, August 21. There had been requests from many Nigerians for President Buhari to address them, even while he was on medical vacation in London.

The president's absence had provoked protests from a group called 'Concerned Nigerians' led by veteran entertainer, Chales Oputa, popularly called Charly Boy and online influencer, Deji Adeyanju which staged a protest at the Unity Fountain tagged 'Resume or Resign.' President Buhari returned to the country on Saturday, August 19 to the relieve of many Nigerians.

NAIJ.com brings you the highlights of the president's address below:

1. My dear citizens, I am very grateful to God and to all Nigerians for their prayers. I am pleased to be back on home soil among my brothers and sisters.

2. In the course of my stay in the United Kingdom, I have been kept in daily touch with events at home. Nigerians are robust and lively in discussing their affairs, but I was distressed to notice that some of the comments, especially in the social media have crossed our national red lines by daring to question our collective existence as a nation. This is a step too far.

3. In 2003 after I joined partisan politics, the late Chief Emeka Ojukwu came and stayed as my guest in my hometown Daura. Over two days we discussed in great depth till late into the night and analyzed the problems of Nigeria. We both came to the conclusion that the country must remain one and united.

4. Nigeria's unity is settled and not negotiable. We shall not allow irresponsible elements to start trouble and when things get bad they run away and saddle others with the responsibility of bringing back order, if necessary with their blood.

5. Every Nigerian has the right to live and pursue his business anywhere in Nigeria without let or hindrance.

6. I believe the very vast majority of Nigerians share this view.

7. This is not to deny that there are legitimate concerns. Every group has a grievance. But the beauty and attraction of a federation is that it allows different groups to air their grievances and work out a mode of co-existence.

8. The National Assembly and the National Council of State are the legitimate and appropriate bodies for national discourse.

9. The national consensus is that, it is better to live together than to live apart.

10. Furthermore, I am charging the Security Agencies not to let the successes achieved in the last 18 months be a sign to relax.

11. Terrorists and criminals must be fought and destroyed relentlessly so that the majority of us can live in peace and safety.

12. Therefore we are going to reinforce and reinvigorate the fight not only against; elements of Boko Haram which are attempting a new series of attacks on soft targets kidnappings, farmers versus herdsmen clashes, in addition to ethnic violence fuelled by political mischief makers. We shall tackle them all.

13. Finally, dear Nigerians, our collective interest now is to eschew petty differences and come together to face common challenges of; economic security, political evolution and integration as well as lasting peace among all Nigerians.

14. I remain resolutely committed to ensuring that these goals are achieved and maintained. I am so glad to be home.

15. Thank you and may God bless our dear nation.

Health / FG To Implement 9 Laws On Smoking In Nigeria by Crystal70200: 3:32pm On Jun 01, 2017
As the world marks this year’s World No Tobacco Day, Nigeria’s Health Minister, Isaac Adewole, has announced nine regulations in the Nigeria Tobacco Control Act that would be implemented by the federal government.

The National Tobacco Control Act was signed into law in 2015 by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The theme for this year’s event, ‘Tobacco: A Threat to Development,’ aims at highlighting the link between tobacco use and development as well as show that tobacco control can break the cycle of poverty, contribute to ending hunger, promote sustainable agriculture and economic growth, and combat climate change.

Ahead of this year’s celebration, the World Health Organization revealed that tobacco kills over seven million people annually, and is an increasing risk factor in non-communicable (NCDs), including cardiovascular disease, cancers and chronic obstructed pulmonary disease.

Earlier Mr. Adewole, a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, had told PREMIUM TIMES that the implementation of the tobacco control Act had been slow because the draft Regulations need the National Assembly approval.

Below are the regulations listed by the minister to be implemented:

1. Prohibition of the sale of tobacco products to and by anyone below age 18.

2. Ban of sale of cigarettes in single sticks; cigarettes must be sold in packs of 20 sticks only.

3. Smokeless tobacco shall be sold in a minimum of a pack of 30 grammes.

4. Ban of sale or offer for sale or distribution of tobacco or tobacco products through mail, internet, or other online devices.

5. Prohibition of interference of tobacco industry in public health and related issues.

6. Prohibition of smoking in anywhere on the premises of a child care facility, educational facility, and healthcare facility. Other prohibited for smoking include playgrounds, amusement parks, plazas, public parks, stadia, public transport, restaurants’ bar, and other public gathering spaces.

7. Prosecution of owner or manager of any of the places listed above who permits, encourages or fails to stop smoking in the above listed places.

8. Prohibition of tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship of any kind.

9. Compliance with specified standards for content.

Foreign Affairs / 11 Takeaways From Obama's Farewell Speech by Crystal70200: 1:15pm On Jan 11, 2017
The United States President Barack Obama has said goodbye after spending eight years in office. He delivered his farewell speech in his hometown of Chicago on Tuesday, January 10.

In his emotional farewell speech, he talked about his eight years in office, thanked hi family, staff and all those who made his tenure a success.

Below are takeaways from the outgoing president’s his speech.

1. He has been made a better man and a better president
Obama said in his eight years in office, his conversations with the American people has kept him honest and kept him going. He said it was his source of inspiration and motivation over the years.

“And every day, I have learned from you. You made me a better president, and you made me a better man,” he said.

2. Lessons he learnt
The outgoing president said he has learnt that change only happens when ordinary people get involved, get engaged and come together to demand it. He is convinced we are all created equal and endowed with certain unalienable rights which include life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

3. Extolling the exceptionalism of America
Takeaways from Obama's farewell speech
He said America is exceptional, not because it was not flawless from the start but because they have shown the capacity to change and make life better for others.

“Yes, our progress has been uneven. The work of democracy has always been hard. It has been contentious. Sometimes it has been bloody. For every two steps forward, it often feels we take one step back. But the long sweep of America has been defined by forward motion, a constant widening of our founding creed to embrace all, and not just some,” he said.

4. Stark inequality, a threat to American democracy
He said the progress is not enough if a few prosper at the expense of a growing middle class. He decried that while the top 1 percent has amassed a bigger share of wealth, others in inner cities and in rural counties have been left behind. He said this was corrosive to the country’s democratic idea.

5. Race, a threat to American democracy
“There’s a second threat to our democracy. And this one is as old as our nation itself.”

According to him, race has remained a potent and divisive force in the society. He noted that race relations were better than they were years ago and if the people are going to be serious about race going forward, they need to uphold laws against discrimination in hiring, housing, education and in the criminal justice system.

He said that hearts must also change as laws alone will not be enough while adding that it will not change overnight as it often takes time.

6. Tribute to service members
Americans pay attention as President Obama delivers a farewell speech
Obama also paid tribute to the nation's military, diplomats, and law enforcement for saying because of their courage and intelligence no foreign terrorist organization has successfully planned and executed an attack on US soil in the past eight years.

“The global coalition we’re leading against ISIL has taken out their leaders and taken away about half their territory. ISIL will be destroyed. And no one who threatens America will ever be safe,” he said.

7. America’s influence around the world cannot be matched

Business / Open Letter To MMM Founder Mavrodi by Crystal70200: 11:19am On Dec 19, 2016
Dear Mr Mavrodi,

Our attention has been drawn to your open letter dated Sunday, December 18, 2016, which contained a series of heavy criticisms to the address of Nigerian journalists. Therefore, as the biggest online news platform in Nigeria, NAIJ.com deem it necessary to provide a couple of clarifications below:

First and foremost, let us remind you that Nigeria is not Russia. Nobody can tell Nigerian press and media what to write and what not to write about. Freedom of speech and press is one of the fundamental values of our nation. BTW, in case you missed it, presidents also change in Nigeria by means of democratic elections.

The issue of unbiased coverage has been touched in your appeal. Please understand that the aim of Nigerian online and printed press is to be objective rather than take MMM down. Once your company reaches incredible success, we, as well as our fellow colleagues in other media houses, would be happy to report. Invite us!

However, a sudden stop of operation was considered and interpreted as a collapse. It is not far from truth. Can some of our editors who are a part of the scheme withdraw their money tomorrow? - NO. Do you have a clear and specific date when this can be done? - NO. Can millions of Nigerians who invested their “spare cash” use it for buying Christmas & New Year presents for their loved ones? - NO.

The question is: what's the root of the panic? Some media reports, or the actions and limiting steps taken by MMM Nigeria without any prior notice? We think the answer what came first is obvious.

So, once you resume after the Yuletide period, we would be pleased to report about it.

Let us finish the open letter with your own words: “Leave us [journalists and bloggers] alone and let us work without interference.”

Yours,

Bayo Olupohunda

Investment / 5 Types Of People That May Die If MMM Crashes by Crystal70200: 1:59pm On Dec 13, 2016
MMM seems like one acronym many Nigerians will not forget in a hurry. The Ponzi scheme has taken Nigeria by storm with many sinking huge sums into it despite clear indications that it might crash.

Here are 5 classes of Nigerians that may develop heart attack if MMM crashes:

1. Nigerians who resigned their jobs

While it is quite strange, there have been stories of Nigerians who left their jobs because MMM started paying well. These set of people feel that MMM is a more easy way to make money and so they have quit their jobs.

If the scheme crashes today, this set of people will be left with no means of income and no job.

2. Nigerians who invested their savings

The news that MMM is paying has led many to invest their entire life savings in the hopes that they will get huge returns based on the percentages. What happens when the scheme collapses? Losing their entire life savings is something that will lead to huge problems for many Nigerians.

3. Those who sold their property

In the hopes of huge returns, many Nigerians have sold their properties and put the money gotten into the MMM scheme. Lands, homes and other investments have gone into the scheme. What will happen to such people when it crashes?

4. Those who got married with MMM money and no jobs

There have been stories of young men who upon getting their first MMM payment, decided it was time to settle down and get married. What happens when the MMM money dries up?? They will find it difficult to cope, if they do not have an extra means of income.

5. Bankers

While this might sound strange, there have been stories like this: "Some bankers who usually invest as much as N10m out of customers’ savings just to get a profit of N3m in return. We recently heard the story of a bank manager who committed suicide due to debt."

To round up, this quote is fitting to represent the situation of Nigeria as regards MMM.

"It is easier to find a virgin in Nigeria than to find a non MMM participant." - Arinze Esomnofu

Nairaland / General / Naij.com's Editor Yinka Adeparusi Missing by Crystal70200: 2:44pm On Nov 15, 2016
Yinka Adeparusi, Naij.com’s photojournalist in Abuja has gone missing under very mysterious circumstances.

Yinka stepped out of his Abuja apartment on Sunday, November 13 with a brief ‘I’ll be back’ and has not been seen since. Several calls made to his mobile phone lines have not been going through. Mr Adeparusi has also not made any contact with those close to him or his colleagues in the office.

This is quite unusual because Yinka is a soft-spoken, very professional and clear-headed individual; not the kind of person to wander off. He speaks Yoruba and English quite well and he had a not-too-thick Afro-style hair as at the last time he was seen.

Yinka is an award-winning photojournalist who graduated from Lagos State University School of Communication, where he bagged double honours in Photojournalism and Cinematography and minor in mass communication. Among other awards, Yinka received the People’s Choice Award for Human Rights Photography in Africa, German Development Media Awards in 2013 and was winner of the photojournalism award of the 6th Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting in 2011. NAIJ.com would deeply appreciate any information about his whereabouts.

As Nigeria continues to battle economic recession, the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government has proposed to fund part of the 2017 budget deficit of N2.69 trillion from monies recovered from looters.

According to reports, FG in a Medium Term Expenditure Framework/Fiscal Strategy Paper submitted to the National Assembly is proposing to spend the sum of N6.86tn in 2017, with total revenue of N4.16tn.

With a funding gap of N2.69tn, the government said part of the deficit would be financed with recoveries from looted funds, the rest would be from borrowings.

“Based on the revenue and expenditure estimates, the fiscal deficit is estimated to increase by about N492bn or 22.32 per cent from the estimate of N2.2tn in 2016. “However, while this remains below the maximum three per cent of the Gross Domestic Product stipulated in the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007, it is projected to take a downward turn afterwards.

“The deficit is to be financed mainly by borrowing as well as recoveries of misappropriated public funds/assets.” “Borrowing will be geared towards funding critical capital projects that have potential to effectively increase productivity, and hence, provide mechanism for refinancing the debt,” the document read in part.

Politics / See 4 People Who Have Refused Buhari’s Nominations And Why by Crystal70200: 3:15pm On Oct 31, 2016
This seems to be the season of nomination refusals, which is quite strange. President Buhari has had his nominations refused three times recently. Here are the three people that refused his nominations and their reasons for doing so:

1. Usman Bugaje
Usman Bugaje We will first consider the case of Usman Bugaje. Honourable Dr Usman Bugaje is a graduate of pharmacy from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria. He graduated in 1975. He later did an MA in African Studies and a PhD in Intellectual History, both at the Institute of African and Asian Studies, University of Khartoum, Sudan. He is a writer on national and international issues, and has published in both academic and non-academic journals and other media. Dr Bugaje was conferred the honorary title of commander of the order of civil Merit and commander of the order of independent Equatorial Guinea by the president of republic of equatorial Guinea on 26th March, 2002. He rejected President Buhari’s ambassadorial nomination, and he was convinced not to mention his decision to the media.

2. Dame Pauline Tallen
Dame Pauline Tallen is the former deputy governor of Plateau state. She is also a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) board of trustees. She turned down the offer for nomination for ambassadorial appointment to attend to her ailing husband. Tallen said she appreciated the president for counting her worthy to serve Nigeria in the capacity of an ambassador, however, she has to let go to attend to her ailing husband. According to her, she would not be able to leave her husband who has been sick for sometime now, in the hands of others to look after him, for the sake of the appointment. “It is a hard decision I had to take but I have to, because he is my primary responsibility,” she said.

3. Professor Akintunde Akinwande
Professor Akintunde Ibitayo Akinwande is a Nigerian American engineering professor at the electrical engineering and computer science department of Massachusetts institute of technology. Akinwande commenced work as a scientist at Honeywell Inc. Technology Center in Bloomington, Minnesota in 1986, initially researching on Gas Complementary FET technology for very high speed and low power signal processing. Professor Akinwande rejected an offer by the president to serve in the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) as chairman. According to the Nation, Akinwande turned down the offer based on the alleged fact that he was not consulted before the nomination was made.

4. Najatu Muhammad
Naja’atu Bala Muhammad, is the first woman to win a Senate seat in Central Kano for the Kano senatorial seat in central district and the first to serve as president of the National Students (Student Union for president in Nigeria). She was born in 1956, in the neighborhood sycamore tree Can, the central city of Kano. The federal government on Saturday, February 13, 2015, appointed Muhammad as the chairperson of the governing board of the Dutse federal university through a paid advertorial on a national daily. “Sir, I Najatu Muhammad wishes (wish) to thank you so much for considering me worthy of being appointed the chairperson of Dutse Federal University. “It’s however unfortunate that I was not consulted before the announcement in the media. I also regret that I have to use the same medium to announce that I can’t accept the appointment for personal reasons.”

Politics / 4 Anti-buhari, Anti-apc Quotes By Reuben Abati by Crystal70200: 11:32am On Oct 26, 2016
1. Buhari afraid to debate Jonathan
In reaction Abati wrote: “The man to blame for this denial is General Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Getting him to debate the incumbent, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has been an uphill task. To say that the man is scared, practically running away from an opportunity to debate his ideas against the incumbent’s, is to be charitable. He doesn’t want it. Every effort to get him to the podium has been rebuffed by him and his handlers.”

2. Buhari is shallow and confuses his audience
“He projects himself as an anti-corruption angel yet he is surrounded by a large crowd of morally conflicted persons; to worsen it all, he doesn’t even know the name of his own running mate. When he grants interviews, his responses are cryptic and elliptic, demonstrating such shallowness that confuses an informed audience,” Abati said.

3. Buhari linked to terrorism In April 2011,
He wrote an article titled ‘For the attention of General Buhari’ where alleged that Buhari was responsible for the violence emanating from the elections in the country. “General Buhari has been quoted in the media saying that he deplores the violence, he has also spoken on BBC Hausa service, and he has issued two statements in English language to that effect. General Buhari has to do much more than that. His responses to the electoral process and his party’s have been at best contradictory and mischievous. “It will be recalled that in the first week of March 2011, General Buhari advised his supporters to “lynch” anybody who tries to rig the April polls,” he wrote. Buhari took Abati to court for libel and the court judgment as awarded in his favor. Abati later retracted the statement.

4. APC behaving as if they are under a spell In a piece titled ‘It’s time to put Nigeria first’, Abati said Buhari’s government has failed to move quickly from campaign to governance mode.
He wrote: “I blame the APC strategists for allowing things to remain at this level. They have failed to see the need to move quickly from campaign to governance mode. They are also behaving as if they are under the spell of Karma”.
