One of the proponents of this concept is warren buffet. This is a practical example of what DCA means.

Assume on Monday, Zenith bank share was 100 naira and you invested 1K, means you have 10 units.

On Tuesday, the price fell to 50 naira, you refused to panick, you invested another 1K again, and bought 20 units.

Now you have 30 units.

Two things happened,

1. Your 1K got you more units on Tuesday
2. Your average cost per unit is now (100naira + 50naira) /2 =75 naira.

If you did not buy more, zenith shares would have to rise to 100 naira for you to break even but because you bought more when the prices were down, you have reduced your break even price to 75 naira, meaning zenith does not need to rise to 100 naira before you break even anymore. Anything from 76 naira and you are in profit.

In summary, it does 2 things

1. It reduces the price at which the shares need to rise to before you make profit.

2. It gives you more units for dividend day.

That is what averaging down means and that is why people pray for red day at times especially when they invested at high prices

For a foreign portfolio, it's not too late; just make sure you do DCA everytime you have a tiny change. I do $20-100 weekly before getting my salary. DCA helps you to buy more units and supercharges your portfolio for Yakubu.

Amen and I tap into this my brother. Though someone like me is just getting started into this. But I know it's never too late to delve into this.

I just took out the money I invested in Zrosk last week to concentrate on this FLXK. My broker allows a single ETF per portfolio, as it is deemed dangerous to have multiple volatile ETFs in a single portfolio. My SMH is also second in the rank, followed by URA and BATT. I hope God will give me the strength to work hard for another 10-15 years and retire.

Decline of ASI for the past few days should let you know that movement in large cap Banking stocks are slow and currently Zenith bank will experience some profit taking before a new rally begins, so if you have bought already, be willing to wait for some time or try average down.

Another fortunate factor about Derivatives (ETFs) is that they don't get over sold like individual company stocks, But even if they get over sold (dip), new investors are always ready to buy them up quickly because most investors see it as safe retirement investment, another thing is, it is widely preached abroad that Index and ETFs are safe to invest in so when newbie wants to invest, they are more likely to buy ETFs.

Good morning everyone.

Here is an update regarding your investment in Equity mutual funds.

Some of you might have been experiencing red days lately — the reason is simple, people are now taking profit en mass, So ASI has reached it's peak for now.


Two things might likely happen starting next week:

1 — Green arrow, means a long consolidation starting next week, basically, it means some days your will see profit and some days loss but not huge profit and the loss days will always cancel profits until ASI finds new support and begin a new rally.


2 — Red arrow, means ASI will just suddenly dip, meaning more red days due to institutional money leaving the market. When that happens, other retail investors will also be trimming their profit making ASI go further down until it finds a new support and begins a new rally.


So now what do you do and why am I writing this?

CSblackpink usually talk about top up during red days, Wise idea— but you have to be strategic about doing it, I see people doing it before now, I knew it was too early to do it, but It's not a bad thing, this is why I didn't say anything about it. Sometimes when you top up too early, that money too will also dip, so you will have to continue to buy the dip as it further dips. Not every one can always afford that.


Now what I recommend is simple — Now that it's profit taking season, Also take your profit and move it to mutual fund investment. After ASI has found support to begin a new rally, then you can withdraw your money from mutual fund and buy the new dip. I will also let you all know then when it's safe to buy but it's usually difficult to know when there is long consolidation going on.

But then again, for investors that can afford to keep buying the dip, please continue, because that's another smart strategy because eventually you will regain your losses when ASI begins a new rally.

In summary, this is time for profit taking, take profit, hold It and buy more units after profit taking season is over.

If you are outside the country, find "KORU" or its cousins, FLXK, EWY, and FLKR. These are the money-making machines for now; it has been three huge days of greens, and it is most likely to make another Kanayo today as the pre-market is hot.

This scenario does pop up in the foreign market as well. Traders often stick to US stocks and ETFs for safety and higher liquidity. However, with the Korean market doing its wonders, the trend is shifting gradually to the international market for higher gains. Imagine KORU with 361YTD at the moment and the famous S&P with just 10+YTD.

My man from MMF. Cant side with you on this one. I doubt stanbic is the biggest player when it comes to equity. They only shine in MMF.

Equity is a different ball game and i wont advise you to go with stanbic if you want to do it. If invested with the right fund manager, 10% or less of your total funds can outperfom 90% of your total funds in MMF

In MMF, your daily % gain is divided by 365 but in equity, whatever % you see in a day is what you get . CS did around 7% in one day sometime last week. Some fund managers are currently at 100% YTD, meaning they have doubled whatever investment you made with them whereas stanbic is far behind.

Lastly, Risk in equity snd MMF mean different things. The greatest risk in Equity is Yakubu aka Red, whereas in MMF, excessive returns above the benchmark may spell risk.
