Hello everyone!

this is a very informative thread. I appreciate the initiative. It's old but still relevant, I find it very helpful. Thanks OP and all who contributed to it.

I have a couple of questions about the required MLS internship. My sister is a foreign student, she graduated last year and is looking forward to doing her internship this year. She has been on the Website to get information on the steps to follow, the form she is required to fill is not accessible. There is alot of information on what to do but no time/schedule included.
Is there a foreign graduate who can give us clear information about the time frame for registration?
Also, I've read through the thread about competitive internship placement and that 'connection' is a thing. I'm hoping this is in a case where one doesn't pass the required exams

I read somewhere on the thread where someone advised writing the exams in SEVERAL DIFFERENT STATES. How does this work? I was going through the thread as a guest so I couldn't quote the exact person to clarify that. I'll appreciate your responses.

Thanks!
Romance / Re: She Is Rejecting My Advances, Yet Wants To Know Everything About Me by cupidora(f): 8:38pm On Mar 13, 2021
In my opinion, she is probably as much into you as you're into her. don't know how old she is, but I can tell you that the younger we are, the more cautious we are about sex. She may be hesitating because of the 'responsibilities' that come with being in a relationship. Y'all tell us from the onset, "trust me, we'll abstain" "I won't force you" Then when the relationship actually starts, we begin to hear "why are you doing like a baby na? Only once na..." So she's probably bidding her time 'cos it avoidable if she isn't in a relationship with you but probably inevitable if she agrees. Again, this is me just trying to get inside her head. I don't actually KNOW why she is doing you like that.
The post was so long I didn't read it the end before I rushed to respond. Still sticking with my opinion I want to add; substitute the "the younger we are..." with "the more churchy we are..." grin grin grin

It's funny how a lot of you are saying he should ignore her. Even if he could, that doesn't solve his problem. Besides, he wants to know "why" so try to address that.

Education / French Graduates (nigerian French Language Village Badagry) 2011/2012 Anyone? by cupidora(f): 1:17pm On Mar 09, 2021
Salut mes colleagues
This is a very long shot but
Please I need y'all's help! I received my transcript from my school earlier and I'm applying for another one at the moment. The issue is that the one I received earlier came with so many typos in the course titles, especially the NFLV 300L courses. To avoid the errors, I'm typing the course titles myself this time. I plan to send it to the person who is supposed to help me facilitate the process. He'll cross-check the document this time before it is sent to my school.
However, there's one particular course I can't even fathom what it is. Because I don't have my course forms or lecture materials with me for reference, I need your help with this. What is/was FLV 314?? Thanks in advance for your help

'Why Bad Girls Get Married Too' is not an analysis, a theory or dissertation of the subject. It is just a fun relatable 'Nigerian' story of the typical 'bad' girl.

If you were my sister, I would tell you to stay with someone who is stable and has future plans for you.

For starters, relationships can create a blind spot with one such that there are some things (good or bad) that it takes outsiders to see. Especially if more than one person is saying the same thing.

For me feeling/ chemistry is a dime a dozen that is, it comes and goes but love is a decision. Also, as you grow older, things that excite you about life changes and so is your needs in a man. In the next 15 years, you won't just be looking at someone that is handsome and makes you laugh, you will need a good father to your children and someone your family and friends will respect.

As for his 'traditional' side, this is a function of where he is coming from and how he was raised. But all of that can be adjusted with right the attitude and presentation. Generally, when a man knows his wife respect him, he is more favourably disposed to listening to her. Actually, women who understand that wield a lot of subtle power than even they know.

As for the new guy, the question is, would you feel the same way about him as you feel now in 10 years time? The answer will tell you which choice to make.

This is not about you staying single till your fourties or the difficulty of marrying from another tribe, it is about making a choice you won't regret.

My 2 cents

I found your response so helpful especially this part

I'm at the point in my life where I'm struggling with deciding if this man that loves me, is responsible and 'not there' yet but making progress,is the right person for me...

Literature / Re: What Inspires You To Write? by cupidora(f): 11:15am On Nov 26, 2019
one thing that inspires me is thoughts (as an introvert, I often tell people I live my life inside my head...), which is kinda what writing is all about-imagination. So, an idea pops in my head and I pick up my phone and quickly type a phrase in my note so I don't forget when I'm ready to write.
I'm a very sarcastic person but often I find that to respond sarcastically may be offensive so I write about it instead. I also write because I've decided that to get anything done, I need to be intentional about it. I have lots, I mean lots of drafts in my WPS office and phone notebook and I always find a way to weave and idea into another one and make some progress. I haven't completed any book yet but I'm aiming at doing so very soon.

Another thing is reading other authors. Lately, I've read Diana Evans(26a), Chimamanda(Americanah,The thing around your neck,Half of a yellow sun-I only just read it this year, lol. They all inspired me. Anne Lamott's Bird by bird especially made me realize that the struggle to write is not only experienced by amateurs and is actually the very essence of writing. For when you finally have a beautiful story after your shitty first drafts, that is writing. May we reach the peak of writing and tell our stories in ways that shed light on ourselves and 'our Nigeria'.

ps: the responses on this thread are so reassuring, I mean it feels good to read about some challenges I experience while trying to write - the grammar challenge. I thought I'm the only one who feels like my language often sounds very basic, mediocre...

And some aren't just long, they don't reflect the pattern - the last word in one line is the same one you should use to begin the next line grin grin grin

mansakhalifa:
The OP called for 'Short' poems...

I came where to read 'short' poems.

And what did some folks do?

They simply gave us some long, badly written drivels in the name of 'short' poems.

Now, that leaves me pondering deep down in my heart how low the standard of education in this country has fallen.

If supposedly 'educated' folks do not know what the word 'Short' really means, then there is a huge problem somewhere.

Literature / Poetry Thread For 'short Witty Poetry' Lovers by cupidora(f): 5:33pm On Nov 24, 2019
Write a poem having the last word of one line be the first word in the next line

Like this

"I saw you when I opened my eyes
Eyes see and tell what the heart wishes
Wishes that only come true on starry nights
Nights, when darkness falls and I see all but you"

I doubt if that is what some ladies mean when they say they like their men to be "in control". I wish someone could explain better or is it another case of ladies being confused

No one and especially ladies would like a man who exercises control in a manner that is intimidating and inconsiderate, the kind of control I would want my man to exhibit would be in terms of being confident ,taking initiative(not that I can't also do it) and 'being a man' in the broad sense of the phrase, that way, control is reasonable and appreciated, not demeaning and dreadful.

For the Men

Totally fine by me , I love cooking before na , and I can cook for Africa

I definitely would not feel good about it

I would not be with such man in the first place, I would be with a PARTNER , someone who complements me,and someone I complement .With the prescence of love, understanding and a CLEAR goal and vision of what we want individually and for our future

I wouldn't keep silent because , I dont allow "the society" determine how things go for me .Once what I do is fine by me ,and I dont hurt man or God in the process,I am ok.

I would marry a man who sees me as a partner and definitely assist around the house , especially when I have a lot of work load , so we both get the credit and ovation, remember- PARTNERSHIP , I would also assist him with his own "manly" things ,so we share each others burdens .P.S. I love babies kiss

I definitely would not like that , I should be told everything ,since I am being given out , I should be involved in the whole process

I would feel bad about it , very bad infact .People who do such are just dumb

Lets go there na , maybe without the monthly flow part cheesy , I can manage the aspect of borning pikin , I love babies kiss

Wheew !!!! smiley

Awesome! Thank you for the insightful answers... Hahahahaha! It comes in one package, all wrapped with a ribbon on it bro grin cheesy

I think she means being in control(which is same as being authoritative) just not in a domineering way that has an air of arrogance to it. Authoritative in itself is not a negative term but we sometimes tend to associate it only with violence and menace so much that it has become that for us.

This is a simple social experiment that can help us all to assess our attitude and choices in relating with the opposite sex. It is not just a glimpse into the way the other feels or the things they experience but also a perspective into how we can shake off gender bias complex. I hope we take it serious and reconsider many things afterwards.
So here's how it works; the men answer the questions that are supposed to the aswered by the ladies(For the Men) and the women answer those supposed to be for the men(For the Ladies). Try as much as possible not to analyze or justify the questions, answer them as they are or else it loses the essence of the exercise.

For the Men
1. How do you feel about being associated with the kitchen and Domestic chores?
2. How do you feel about being sexualized just because you look beautiful even when your intention is not to draw attention and you are being as modest as you can be?
3. How do you feel when men think they own the sole right of choice of whom to marry and also the right to dump you if they think you're not good enough and you don't have a say?
5. How do you feel about liking someone but being silent because the society frowns at women being the ones to make the first move?
6. How do you feel about being 'the kangaroo' for the babies and getting no applause but the man changing one diaper gets a standing ovation and an uproar?
7. How do you feel about not being consulted about what should be exchanged for your hand in marriage?
8. How do you feel about being called a 'slut' in an argument by a social media user who knows next to nothing about you?
9. How would it feel to switch roles for a while?

For the Ladies
1. How do you feel about being considered to be the same as the average guy or worse?
2. How do you feel when a girl calls you a player because you are handsome?(of course you 're handsome,so answer the question)
3. How do you feel when a girl thinks she owns the sole right to blow the friend zone whistle because she thinks she has control over her libido but you can't control yours?
4. How do you feel about waking up in the morning with/having an erection and not being able to do anything about it because you want to be chaste?
5. How do you feel about giving your sister out in marriage to another man(yes, its a thing of pride but how do you really feel)?
6. How do you feel about asking a girl out and she turns you down and laughs with her friends about it(you're someone's cherished son too right? not a nobody, but how do you reassure yourself when you're so crushed?)
8. How do you feel about 'men' being associated with 'ego' when you're just a soft guy who may as well be a girl?
9. How would it feel to switch roles for a while?

Spot the Songs and Say the name of the Singer(Examples highlighted, the rest are lost in the text)

Santa Clause is coming to town and I bet there would be lots of present underneath the mistletoe but this is what's On my mind. I’m just Thinking out Loud; When we first met you said you’ll be with me from dusk till dawn I believed Every word you said. Every single moment we spent together I captured for a Treasure. The bond we shared, and the experiences, each time i think... even now, Its all coming back to me and I can’t believe all this is Fading right before my very eyes. For you I could even say it’s all Faded already. Because the few times I’ve tried to call, The moment I get on the Payphone and I say Hello and wait for you to Say Something, next thing I hear in all the words you speak is Whataya want from me? You don’t say it in those terms but your tone says it all. I always wonder why you have to be Rude. Well, Send my love (to your new lover). I hope to Find Someone Like You or not, I could say Someone better but I'm still so Hooked on you I wouldn't mind if my next were like my Ex. (LOL) Don't think you left a Blank Space Did I mention I have A couple of them Coming my way already, I told One about you and he told me you know I can Treat you better but I'm still thinking about it. I hope the one I finally settle for is not like The one that got away.
Sometimes if feels like It was only Just a dream but even if it was I beg you Don't wake me up, just let me revel in the reassurance of the Beautiful nightmare. I know we are Never ever getting back together but sometimes these thoughts, like Helium, lift me off the ground. The good thing is I have an Elastic Heart, when you think you have mine inside your Jar of hearts, you would see that you only stretched it and it bounced back. Cause now, I'm a Grown Woman. See?
