TravelRe: How I Was Scammed By A Hotel / Booking Agency At Murtala Mohammed Airport by curious123: 6:02pm On Dec 22, 2016
The way we treat each other is rather poor. Imagine being duped by ur country person. Poverty is trully bringing out d worst in people. Sorry for ur ordeal

obidevine:
Hello nairalanders, I'd like you all  to read this my epistle on my bad experience with a travel / hotel  booking agency  in Muritala Mohammed international  Airport, Lagos , Nigeria. I and my wife got a 3 months  visitor's visa to South Africa , our visas were granted after we had satisfied all their visa requirements ( with our hotel bookings and statement of account verified) . On the day we were meant to travel, we got to the departure area of Kenya airways (the airline company we were meant to fly with), the airline attendants asked for a copy of our  hotel booking  and "yellow card",  to my surprise I and my wife forgot the print out of our hotel booking, but luckily we had our yellow cards. The flight attendant told us that we couldn't go through without our hotel reservation, I told him that we got the visa because the south African Embassy had verified all our documents -hotel reservations included-  before granting us the visa , the attendant ( a nigerian) was adamant that without the reservation we couldn't go through, he even told us that even if he let's us pass that when we get to South Africa they would send us back because we didn't have evidence that we had a hotel reservation,  I thought to myself " which kain wahala be this sef", a lady who  was standing beside called my wife aside and said she could help us book another hotel accommodation, she directed us to her desk just opposite where the airline attendant was harassing us, we had to cancel our former booking and eventually ended up paying 105,000 naira for 4 nights stay in another  hotel, the lady printed out the document and handed it to us, we took it to the attendant and he granted us passage. When we eventually arrived Johannesburg, South Africa to our surprise they didn't even ask us for the hotel booking, they only checked our yellow cards , warmly welcomed us to their beautiful country and stamped us in , we found our way to the hotel they booked for us,  after showing the hotel manager ( who coincidentally is a Nigerian)  the booking print out  he looked at it and told us that the booking was only done for 1 night, I and my wife didn't look at the print out in Nigeria because we were in a hurry not to miss our flight ( it was when the hotel manager pointed out a couple of things  on the printout that we  realized to our dismay that the lady in Nigeria booked only one night for us after collecting money and claiming she booked 4 nights) , I and my wife were perplexed, we had to pay for another 4 nights . It's obvious that the Nigerian man working with Kenya airways that checked our documents at Muritala Mohammed airport  connived with the hotel booking agency to rip us off. The reason I'm writing this is to bring to the fore the fact that this travel / hotel booking agency with their desk directly opposite Kenya airways departure section is a big scam ( they didn't even put their name on the receipt because they know they are a scam) the reason why we didn't scrutinize the printout like I said was because we were in a hurry not to miss our flight.  I really don't know why we ( Nigerians) like to be so cruel to ourselves. This should serve as a warning to all of us that we should always scrutinize receipts and other documents given to us.

You will definitely pay more than 37k for lost passport. Budget 50k, cos thats how much i did mine

will there be payment to make and how do I get the court affidavit
Simply go to the magistrate court, although thankfully a lawyer helped me to do mine. Shouldnt cost more than 1k, then do take ot to the police station for a police report. When you get to the immigration office you will be asked to write a handwritten request to abuja regarding replacing your lost passport.
Make necessary payment, when approved (about 3 weeks /1 month) you will be asked to do your biodata and voila........passport
TravelRe: Cost Of A Nigeria International Passport by curious123: 6:04pm On Nov 09, 2016
You need police report explaining how it got lost and court affidavit then you can apply for a lost case. Please note that it will take atleast 3 weeks to 1 month

Mail i received from travel agent

• Family Travellers can apply for a tourist visa which will entitle a max 30 day stay. Individual Travellers / Business Travellers can only apply for a service visa will entitles a max 14 day stay. If your client wishes to have an extended duration they must exit the UAE and apply a new visa.
• Service Visa charges are the same as Tourist Visa charges
• Visa applications cannot be submitted for processing without the required supporting documentation
• Family is defined as: Husband & Wife, with or without children. If the surnames on passports differ, a copy of the marriage certificate will be required

lovere:
HELLO guys it was indeed a successful journey. my flight was scheduled to depart from abuja at 01:10 PM. I was at the the airport before 9am to make sure i escape and settle all the hurdles before boarding. with me are my clothes and food stuffs ( my regret was not parking lots of naija food stuffs before boarding). i passed through first security check: no problem encountered. on getting to the second check point i was stopped by customs personnel. They asked me to declare what was on me i told them it was my clothes, laptop and some food stuff. The man said i should open the bag for manual checking. "Why you wan delay my journey naa?" i boldly told him jokingly. He now directed me to agriculture section( i guess) where i was made to pay N1,500 ( receipted). on getting to where they weighed my bag it was discovered thet it was in excess, i was made to buy Ghana must go bag at ridiculous price of N1,000 to reduce excess luggage and N1000 for wrapping of the bag to protect it from damaging. Now the the immigration, The woman who was in charge sked me what was my mission to dubai,i told her i am going for vacation, she asked for visa i showed her, she asked for hotel reservation i showed her, she asked for BTA( i was only having $200 with me) i showed her three atm cards in my wallet. she was kind of insisting i show her $1,000 Bta. i now told her " Who get that kind of money for this buhari government?" They all laughed and began to demand for soft drink money. i gave them N500 and they stamped my passport. Thats all. The rest na stress free till i boarded the flight. Here in dubai no immigration hasssles just follow the instructions you will not have problem. Now the Job Hunt begins!!!

so far so good I MUST say it was kind of easy for me here in dubai as i have a brother/friend who made it easy for me to come and pick me at the airport at 4 am this morning and has been entertaining me with foods and drinks (Isi Ekwensu.

it is 32 pages booklet

virtual3xpert:
grin Na so ooo. You can make enquiries at other locations before you make a decision. My cousin travelled to Abuja two months ago to have her change of name done. It cost her 4weeks and 50k. Thank God the process has been decentralised at least and you don't have to travel to Abuja.

You should get another opinion at a different location to compare.
Which of the booklets were you told you would get, 32pages or 64 pages?

Please has anyone successfully replaced a lost passport in Lagos, someone in Ikeja told me it cost N50k i will wait 3 weeks to get it. which kain grammar b dt?
TravelRe: Cost Of A Nigeria International Passport by curious123: 1:49pm On Jul 20, 2016
they've started in Ikeja already.....? Yippeee!!! Thats great news grin thanks for the info. please if you have further info on replacing lost passport kingly post here. tanx

virtual3xpert:
Stop misleading people. I was at the Ikeja passport office in Lagos and change of information or reissuance of damaged passports can now be done there without having any cause to go to Abuja. I'll advise anyone with such issues to visit the immigration office nearest to them for a detailed explanation.

But the new Comptroller General ordered replacement of lost passport and change of name to be decentralized, meaning not only in Abuja. How come that is still the case......as you have stated?
just wondering

elari:
Its damaged. They is a chip embedded at the back page. You will have to come to Abuja, at the Immigration headquarters to get a new one. Don't pay money to anyone at the state, because at the end they will still refer you to Abuja to capture after they might have charged you an exorbitant price. . .
If u want to get a re-issue for damaged, and have decided when to come to Abuja,
