wyzoe: My body is still operating Nigerian time, which means I'm having a bit of trouble getting quality sleep. Also it's still bright by 8pm but by 9.30pm it gets dark. Anyways I usually wait till 12am or so before going to bed but I'm usually up by 4am (which translates to about 9am Nigerian time) and I find it difficult resuming sleep as it gets bright pretty early. All this will change when winter comes.
Anyhoo, yesterday I decided to stroll around early in the morning and on returning, I saw one neighbor outside smoking. He waved at me, I waved back and decided to approach him. Turns out he's a Nigerian (either born there or came in as a child). We got talking and it struck me how different people's perspectives can be.
This guy was longing to move to Nigeria. He had this romantic (and unrealistic) notion of Nigeria. Believe me when I say I was quite attentive but at some point, I had to puncture his bubble. We talked a lot about government, he has a white baby Mama and two kids but he says he's not impressed with their women, rather he likes African women.
He felt the system was unfair to him, cheating him and depriving him etc. I had to tell him a few stories about Nigeria. He literally has no idea apart from one or two anecdotes. He said he likes Davido, Wizkid, PSquare (he doesn't know Tuface), but said Sunny Ade is not his thing (and he actually sang some lines). He's yoruba but doesn't speak, not even pidgin.
Anyway, I encouraged him to get a Nigerian passport as the first step and travel down and look around. He's into construction, has two cars, a truck and a nice Chrysler. Said he had his own construction company and offered me a job on the spot. A roofing job at 15/h. I told him I'd think about it but I'm not likely to take it. It however reinforced the things I'd read online about networking. I mean this was someone casually offering me a job.
Now, he told me he grew up on the streets of Toronto and that between 17-25 he had been in and out of jail. He said he's trying to straighten his life out now and he's in college making straight A's. In his mind, when he finishes he will come to Nigeria and start to make a difference in the country. I didn't know where to start from. I simply told him that many people in Nigeria wish to leave the country for a number of reasons which I tried to outline.
It's easy to take something for granted if you do not have another perspective. I wish him luck and I hope he's able to visit so he can decide what he really wants.
Oh and he asked me at some point where I was from in Nigeria. I told him and then my people, he did it. He actually asked me if I knew this person, and that person, and that person. He was sure I'd know this one because he's a chief. How about that one. I got tired of telling him that there are hundreds or thousands of people with that same name. Finally I gave him an idea of the population size by states. I think he got the picture after that but I believe he'll do it again. Ewoooo, so d guy really wants to come to Nigeria nd make a change.....shld we tell him Anyway let him come we will welcome him with open hands |

SmallerB: LOL IT FEELS LIKE A MIRACLE LOL Second application submitted online June 20 Medical request July 5(funny thing is my first application was refused after 15days also) Medicals done July 18 Medicals passed August 2( i had to call Qlife cause it was passed the 10 working days. They told me they had sent it, thats when the true worry started ehn i started questioning my health since i had a surgery in june lol. So i sent a web form on august 1st and the next day i got medicals passed) BVl August 2nd also Application was processed in Paris Passport request August 5 lol
I submitted all cic forms Admission letter: university of Saskatchewan going for PGD food science, i have an undergraduate degree in microbiology and 4.78cgpa i couldn't get a supervisor sadly. But i spoke to the program coordinator and he said if i have good grades and get a supervisor after the first semester i could switch to Msc so i am hoping(crossed fingers)i graduated uni at 19 so i mentioned how young and all i still am so a career switch blah blah lol i am surprised. I made mention of the courses i did as an undegrad that are related to food science(like food microbiology, organic chem, bio chem and industrial micro) i also mentioned that my undergraduate course was slightly deficient so i couldn't get into masters which is true in a way. My mum is my main sponsor, statement of account of 9m and 7m TB said to be dedicated to my studies Submitted my dad's will with funds and land property dedicated to i and my siblings. It also had court order. Submitted my transcript and thats all. And above all i added my God to the equation lol.
My first application was refused based on ties to Canada and purpose of visit. I ordered GMCS note and it didnt mention anything about my study plan being vague or anything. VO's main point is that i wont return to Nigeria. I was really sad when the refusal came, i cried sef then ran to niaraland and read all the responses lol. My first application had all the documents i believe it was even perfect but yet it was refused. My second application i didn't even notorise sponsors letter or anything, didn't even submit birth certificate or any extra thing. Its only God that's all. I'm so thankful for everyone that posts here i have always been silent but I'm grateful to everyone here congratulations on ur approval, i applied to the same school, PGD applied Microbiology winter 2020, still waiting for dem to give me feedback |

Opana1: THIS IS MY APPROVAL STORY.
I applied to Brock University in Canada to study MA Critical Sociology. Fortunately, I received admission with funding of $23,000 covering my tuition. Before then let me state that I am 37years old and had over 10 years study gap. When I decided to apply I was scared, because I had not travelled before and there was no personal assets to declare. I decided to go for an upfront medical On the 1st of May I went for my medicals the first nurse noticed i had high blood pressure, I had to conduct more medical examinations. Finally on the 10th May I submitted my application. Here are the documents I submitted
My degree certificate Proficiency certificate Attestation Transcript from uni Waec and testimonial Birth cert for my kids Sponsorship letter from my brother Statement of accounts Company registeration Letter from the school I am a research fellow Letter from my supervisor in Canada A one paged SOP Passports
This is all I remember. Let me add that sometimes God works in mysterious ways.
Here is my timeline again
Upfront medical. 1st May Submission. 10th May Medical passed 17th May Eligibility and background checks started on the 17th May Biometric mail. 21st May Approval mail. 22nd May Resumption date. Sept 2019
One thing that helped me was that, during this period i decided to put all my trust in God and he never disappointed me.
To those still waiting, pls be prayerful, sometimes it is more than what meets the eye. To those who have been refused, take your time and reapply and put God at the centre.
We will get there. Anybody going to Brock here? Congratulations ,ur's is so fast oo |
