A beautiful afternoon to everyone here, please I need your urgent advise. My hubby just got admission for his PhD and we want to apply for visa, below are my questions
1. Can the four of us apply at once? Or hubby should apply alone first. I'm thinking they will say the family is too large ( We have all the necessary cash)
2. Our first child is 19 and the second is 6, will the first born be disqualified because of his age?
3. If granted visa, is it advisable that we all leave at once?
Thank you all as I await your candid response.

Living an independent life is a definition that is for the caseworker to determine.
Generally, if he's in university over here and dependent on you, that's fine (most Nigerian 18 year-olds in university are dependent anyway), but be aware that you will have to pay international fees to put the child in university in the UK.

I got admitted to Glasgow Caledonian University and Robert Gordon University. I was able to defer to September 2021. Please are post graduate students in scotland eligible for the 2 years post study permit?
I plan to get some IT certifications like comptia, checkpoint and palo alto here before I start my application process. My first degree is petroleum engineering however I was admitted for Energy management. When I read the post of the guy who said healthcare is the moving sector at the moment, I felt a bit discouraged. Please can anyone tell me if any of these fields are lucrative or if my plans are valid? My people keep insisting on Canada but I have a refusal there already and I don't feel like trying again. I am having a hard time convincing them to accept the scotland offer because they feel UK can switch up and send us back. I really need advice. thank you

Scotland is part of the UK.

Canada is difficult to get to (their approval rate for Nigerians not encouraging), but once you get a student visa, complete your course, and get a post-study permit, you're on a path of sorts to permanent residency with their CEC and other programs. On the other hand, the UK is way, way easier to get to on a student's visa once you satisfy the requirements, and much more difficult to stay back in.

Please, is it possible to withdraw cash from the atm over there using your Gtbank dollar Master card without any restriction?

PS: I already have the dollar master card and I don't want to collect pounds master card because of the maintenance fee I'll be paying for the two.

If you can get a sterling card, then convert your money to sterling, take the hit, get a sterling card, and move on.

Fact: the banks will make money off you because this is what they are set up to do once you move money through them. All you can do is limit how much they hit you for, not eliminate it entirely.

Not easy to dispose of large quantity of physical $$ in the UK.

Your statement is not complete.

I didn't say "Travel and you will get something"

A relevant statement would be:

"I went to my bank to request PTA last month, I gave my passport and flight ticket, but I got nothing"

Did that happen to you
?

And note West African countries don't count!

You can't just come and say I traveled and got nothing. Not good!

I went to England last month.
I requested PTA from my bank. Had relevant documentation.
Got nothing.

Thanks @mimilyrics for your continous support and swift response.

I applied for myself and my spouse and planned on my son staying back to round up his nursery school by next year. But we just changed our mind after our application and we are deciding on applying for him by January.

If I have received my visa, and am still in Nigeria, can I apply for him or I have to travel first?

Thanks.

You can apply for him at any point, as long as you have the stipulated maintenance amount held in the stipulated manner.

How can you reasonably say that a tiny market that holds less than 5% should be where price is determined?

So 5% is your own definition of majority?

You think CBN should be the one to supply you dollars with which to speculate on US stocks, and you're not ashamed of your funny reasoning?

You don't need any connections to buy dollars at 386. Go to the bank with your passport and air ticket, and fund your account with about 1.5m, you'll get $4000!

Not as easy as that - I travelled last month and got nothing.

Well
You have a point
But still
That does not absolve him from blame
He is NOT doing a good job as a central bank governor ans should do better

Oh I never said he was blameless, after all he owns all the decisions whether he made them or not.
In his defence, every single member of this government is doing a more or less equally useless job.

You may actually have a point
But Emefiele still bears some of the blame
I wonder what goes through his head when he makes certain decisions undecided

What goes through his head is how to keep his job and prevent his head from being chopped off by the inhabitants of the Aso Rock bubble.
Nothing more, nothing less.

Good afternoon all, thanks for the very instructive answers, we have all been getting here. Most especially newcomers like me here. Please I have a question, will a pregnant wife affect the visa chances of her applicant husband who is planning for a September 2021 masters for himself and family. If it will what is the best way to go. For him to apply alone or apply together but go alone first. It's already a family of 3. Thanks in anticipation.

Your wife's pregnancy will have no effect on her application as a dependant.

However, if you are planning for September 2021 entry, and if there is a way you can leave your wife and children behind for at least 6 months and arrange childcare here in Nigeria (family or paid), look into it. A new baby in a new land is a huge undertaking and one that will take up a whole lot of your time, energy and possibly funds.

Hello house good day to you. I need help from you all conerning my situation.

-I am about applying as a tier 4 dependant as my husband is in the uk on his phd(on full scholarship doesnt cover his dependant)..he has been there for some yrs and recently included me as his dependant while renewing his visa under the new tier 4 scheme.

-Now am abt applying as a dependant but we need clarifications on these issues pl

1) He has some funds in his Naira account and dorm and its been sitting there for several months. The two acc combined will be enough to cover my financial req...but there has been No transactions going in and out of the account. The account is still active tho and my husband requested the bank update to a non-resident status. We know the money ought to be there for minimum 28days and max 30days. Can I make use of the account statements from both acc without any issues with Eco? Will present statements with no transactions also cause problems?

2)Do I still need to submit my acc statement or his account statements will suffice?

3) How do we count the 28days if we are not just transfering the money into his account.

OR

3)I was suggesting to him that maybe we add extra some money to his account so we can use that for simple transactions and the account would not appear dormant with no active transactions. Is this advise wise? And how do we count 28days supposing we follow this route. Will it be nxt day after we transfer the little money we start counting?

4) I have very little money in my account and still trying to start up a small business. Do i still need to present my account statement?.

-5) Does the 28days include weekends too sat&sun.

.......Thank you soo much...I would appreciate your kind advise...Thank you.

1. Yes. No.
2. If its been there for 28 days, you're fine.
3. No need to show transactions.
4. No.
5. Yes.

Hello guys,
Pls I like to know if the current amount of £1265 applies for those already counting 28 days which will end mid Dec or the new £1334 starting on 1 Dec 2020. Plan to submit visa Application mid December, so I am curious to know if the VO will use both figures, latter or former in evaluating financials for Tier 4. Thanks

@mimilyrics, @lagosismyhome, @cyberknight

I would assume that they would assess all applications against the new figure starting Dec. 1.
You'd best use that figure to run your 28 day count, to be safe.

You do, but you need to hurry things up as some parts of the scheduling (such as getting a date for the TB test and when your uni issues you a CAS) are beyond your control and time needs to be allowed for those.

And you think if they wanted you to briefly summarise the "important details" of your application they wouldn't ask you to do so?

Besides the whole application is a summary and if you indeed believe ECOs are overworked why then give them additional paperwork?

Each to their own at the end of the day sha.

Even specialist immigration lawyers and caseworkers draft cover letters when they are dealing with the Home Office, and advise applicants to do so, obviously, from your standpoint, because they have nothing better to do with their time and think that all applications are meticulously examined line by line.

If cover letters were pointless, then by now they would have gone out of use, as visa officers would certainly have made known their dislike of them, if that were the case.

As you said, each to their own.

I honestly do not understand why people do a cover letter especially in cases where it's not pertinent to do one. All the information an ECO needs to make a decision is already asked (the form).

Keep your application simple and budget, believable in line with disposable income and account balance

Cover letters are undoubtedly helpful.
They [should] briefly summarise the important details of your application in one page so that its easy for an overworked government employee to quickly grasp before reviewing your form and supporting documents. That's why a lot of people recommend them. I do too, and I always write one, even when applying for long-term visas. As long as it's kept short and succinctly paragraphed and bulleted.

Hello house, my passport will expire on the 13/06/2021, my school resumption is 1st of Feb, 2021, I can only apply for a new passport by 13/December/2020, my CAS won’t be ready earlier than December 15.” I don’t want the passport issue affect my application in December, pls what can I do .. does students visa requires 6 month validation on international passport... I am really worried

You don't have to wait till exactly 13 December to start the passport renewal process. The 6 months is a general guide because they know that many countries don't allow people to travel with passports with less than 6 month's validity.

The last time I renewed my passport it had a bit more than 6 months before it expired (it was set to expire on 17 December and I started the renewal process in the first week of June and the new one was issued 12 June). Who knows, maybe you can even get it renewed now. Go and find out.

You can always get your passport number changed on your CAS.

I thought students don't pay tax in the UK?

You don't pay council tax and you also don't pay personal income tax if you earn below 12,500 annually, which on a student's 20 hours a week is generally not attainable based on the kinds of jobs students can usually do with that time allowance.

There's also a monthly threshold minimum for NI contributions, but I can't remember it now, 700 or so. If you earn below this threshold, you are not liable for NI contributions.

Hello great minds, I highly commend your contribution that has made positive impact on this thread. I got a refusal letter yesterday. Felt bad, The ECO stated I plan to spend £2,258.56. Meanwhile I input 1000GBP in the section that requested for how much you plan to spend for this trip which is 500k there about. I Booked E-reservation flight with Egypt air line 298k. my closing balance was N1,067,000 as at submission in October. And the following month of November another salary came as 220k from my company, and 68,030 from my return on investment every month, so I will have roughly N1,300,000 in my account. I told them I spend N112,615 monthly which can be lower or higher depending on my expenses for that month as its not constant which I said. I told them I have no dependant. I am married with 2 children, an the one sponsoring myself. i included our family pic of myself husband and two children, and marriage picture, marriage certificate, husband consent letter in letter head paper which he says in gave his consent and will take care of the children while am away for the 14 days leave, my husband and i plot of land property, my girlfriend invitation letter stating she will be providing accommodation and feeding for the 2wks, and data page, and her house ownership document etc, d WhatsApp chat of us and picture we both took when she visited. Employment letter, 6months pay slips. Told them am going for vacation to spend the Christmas holiday with her and family using my leave approval as she invited me. So I don't know if they want lies because I told them what I spent monthly after all its my money and I have enough to spend if am back, salary and savings will still be coming in, or is it that they don't check account statement or call your bank to confirm what u Ve at closing balance and to see if another money has come in or not, I have travel history. Please I need your candid advise to avoid such from recurring. Thank you all

Download the form you filled from your gov.uk account. It's available for download for 8 months after an application.
Verify what amount you stated from this form and then proceed from there.

I can pay back over 36 months. Remember you get two years post study work visa.

I understand your situation, but looking at it realistically, you are seeking an unsecured loan from commercial lenders in the business of making money which is to be payable over 36 months with no collateral except your word and your potential earning power with limited working hours for the first 6 months or so, then debatable job prospects thereafter and all in a corona-ravaged economy.

My narrative is quite similar to yours. I have a wife and a son

My questions:
1. I have all the funds for all three of us in my account, will that be the same bank statement I will be submitting for her and my son ?

2. She currently holds a passport with her maiden name, however she's done newspaper publications for change of name. Will she required to do a different passport bearing my surname or a letter will suffice

3. Consent letter ? What's the content ? Was it notarized ?

No.
Your wife doesn't have to change her last name, she can use her passport in her current legal name.
