I totally understand the issue here but this is my problem.. why should Nigerians have to contact a govt official privately to go job done?

Why can't this be done openly for everyone that needs such service? The more we keep referring people to this official privately the more he will abandon his official responsibilities for side deals.

I see where you are coming from, but the point is that the CRB process, to the best of my knowledge at the time, works that way.
The first time I got one, I was still in Nigeria. I went down to Ikoyi myself, and when I got there, I asked them what to do and I was directed to an office where I met one chap (not the guy who was extensively advertised on the Canada thread) who took my fingerprints and a copy of my passport and gave me the form to fill. He then told me a price (6k or so, can't remember), told me it would take about an hour, and then we went through the process, they issued me the certificate.

So when I was outside Nigeria and I needed another one, I simply contacted him again, and he told me to download the form online, get a stamp pad and place my fingerprints on it and send a photo to print out along with a copy of my passport. I did that, and scanned it to my cousin, who printed out the form and photo and took it there and the PCC was issued.

Given that the process I followed from the UK was the same process I followed when I was in Nigeria, I have to say that there's no "encouragement or fostering of corruption there", because it was exactly the same thing. I didn't pay anything to facilitate or queue-jump the day I went to Ikoyi myself, I went there early in the morning and was the only person in their semi-furnished office for the whole hour or so I waited. I am well aware that like many such processes in Nigeria out of the 6k I paid the first time and the 7.5k I paid the second time, probably less than half of it went into government coffers, but that's the way that particular system has been programmed to operate and I don't see how that can be circumvented unless you don't want the PCC.

To the best of my knowledge, there is (or was 2 years ago) no online PCC portal, no Remita or official paypoint where you go and pay only maybe 2k or so and get an official receipt then go and demand issuance of your PCC from the police at that price, no such thing. It's totally different from the passport process for example, we all know how that works, I was impressed when I read here that you can go online and pay the official fee and then go and demand "capturing" and issuance of your passport as opposed to just paying an amount way above the official fee to get one ASAP with as little hassle as possible which has become normalised. We all know the difference between the two and the second process is to be discouraged.

If I needed another, I would follow the previous process I went through again, which is definitely official because it's the exact same process I would follow if I were in Nigeria and had gone to their offices myself and your presence is not needed for a criminal records check. I see it as being akin to having another passport issued for countries who do the passport issuance process by mail for their citizens residing abroad.

A previous poster mentioned something about a 100 quid fee for Nigerians abroad to get this done. I didn't know about this before, but that's a shitload of money and I see that fee as simply being the usual extortion the government applies to citizens abroad with the mindset that they have money to pay, and do not see anything wrong with saving myself money by following yet another official process.

Thanks. Please what is the link to fill the form for Police clearance. I learnt I can as well submit from my state Police Headquarter.

You don't even need to go to your police HQ.
The central records are at Alagbon, Lagos, and its the people there who issue police clearances.
Ask around, you can get someone's contact details (or check the Canada thread here on Nairaland), then you just fill the form, fingerprint and scan and send it and a passport photograph by email and they'll send back the PC to you.
I got one that way a couple of years back, 7k or so.

Hello, I recently got a conditional offer for postgraduate admission. However, one of the conditions is to "provide satisfactory documentation which evidences reasons for gap in studies".
This is where the problem lies.... I graduated in 2018 and finished NYSC service year in October 2019. I have documents to prove this.. I got a small teaching job January 2020(no appointment letter, no documents at all), three months later, Corona pandemic came and when schools resumed, the owner closed down the school(Mental breakdown). So, I haven't been employed since then but I have been tutoring university applicants. Please, how do I provide documents for the last one year.
NB: I gave this info in my personal statement..

cc justwise

Give them what you have, and if they dont accept it, then try elsewhere.
Application to universities in the UK is generally free, and they want to get you and your money.

Goodmorning fam, i know there's a lot of frequent travellers on here so i hope to get very crisp ideas smiley. My mum is coming to d uk with alot of food stuffs via ethopian airline(flight is transit). She has 23kg X 2. In order to maximise the kg has shes coming with a lot i suggested to her not use travel bags but instead ghana must go bags as they are light weighted. Is this a good plan

No real difference - the important thing is the handling.
Also remember that Ghana-must-go bags can tear, so if using those, tell her to consider getting them wrapped in nylon at the airport before checking them in.

Racism

Well it’s better than Russia and Eastern European countries, the Government in power is a coalition government made up by 3 parties (Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and Green Party).

They are not right wing parties, they have policies that are fair enough, I heard the are even planning on giving some form of amnesty to undocumented people who have been living in Ireland for some years now. Don’t get it twisted, there are many racists in Ireland, just like in Nigeria that has tribalist and religious extremists. But as I said in the first part of this topic, the whole country is not racist.

A good thing to note is that right wing and fascism has been raising across European and Ireland is not excluded, they have people like Gemma O’ Doherty, John Water, political parties like Aontú, National Party and platforms like Liberal.ie doing their underground work.

As a Nigerian Immigrant you will be constantly labelled as a welfare recipient, and a scammer up to no good, lol

Any time I think of Ireland, I remember that remarkable phrase "reckonable residence" cheesy

Again, these are the rants of a man that reads only the headings and headlines. It's a very dangerous practice my man.

USA has nothing to lose or even gain if you build refineries.

Wise words.
The USA doesn't care about Nigeria except insofar as they would prefer Nigeria to remain stable so it doesn't release a destabilising flood of 100 million (or whatever number we are) refugees all over west Africa and Africa as a whole (not that they would even care very much if that happened).

You're getting me wrong. It isn't about comparing the past and the present. But then, when Sanusi was there, we has a pretty much even rate.

I'm not necessarily against CBN fixing an exchange rate. I believe every central bank (more so of developing nations) should have good control over their currency. This can be achieved via multiple means. CBN can say 1 naira to a dollar... No problem...but they should defend it. They should not use the commonwealth of the whole nation to subsidize forex for a few people. The effects of devaluation are felt by all Nigerians so I don't see why a select group of people have access to subsidized forex.

My point is that all Nigerians should access forex at same rate (whether 1 or 1000) because we all bear the effect of devaluation. If the government wants to support a group, there are multiple ways to achieve that.

At the bolded, well said, and agreed.
The problem with Nigeria's corrupt government is that there is always either stupidity or corrupt self-interest or both involved in all these policies, so no-one is taking the country's interest into account. And fixing an exchange rate is fine as long as you have an economy to support it, which Nigeria patently does not have. The recent naira for dollar gimmick shows clearly what we've all known all along, that the pressure on the naira and its continued defence are unsustainable.

You are confusing me.I dislike this government like mad because of other things.Nevetheless,I don't see what they are doing different when it comes to cbn..How many exchange rate do we have.i can't agree that those 41 items on the cbn list should access dollars at government rate . Defending the naira is the same thing as subsidizing it.If you qualify for it they give tyou hrough government windows that I know.Do you remember during abacha ,he placed dollars at #22.and things wr still ok.The problem is the madness to import even water. And the demand for everything abroad from services to products even when we can create local alternative.Personally I don't care about the black market price of dollars if you can afford it.God be your helper

What you call a "madness to import" is simply the effective collapse of the SME sector.

I actually used 8.5% in my computation, if u want to reproduce it sha.

At 4m in d first year, 8.5%(for consistancy) inflation and 100m starting seed with compounding 10% interest. The couple will get broke 34 years after.

For 25 years with same factors as above, the couple would need to set aside 78m. Like u said after d 25 years they are on their own.

Regarding what dey need d money for, u know that some people have expensive hobbies right? Also, some people may like to use this time of their lives traveling around the world (At 60 some people are still pretty good physically).

Know that oyigbo mans life style and ours will start converging as time goes on. Senior citizens will not just simply eat and wither away like they used to.

Nigeria may start having old peoples homes and it will not come cheap. I dont think our government will subsidize such houses like it is done in oyigbo countries.

Lol, that one is a given. The Nigerian government's offering to its citizens in terms of social provision is very unlikely to go beyond the current variable quality education and healthcare.

Pls I have another question as regards Proof of Financial Support; I have someone that is willing to sponsor me. He is my uncle.

Can he transfer the funds for (tuition+maintenance fees+ accommodation) to my own personal account? Yes, he SHOULD. If YES, do I need to get any letter of sponsorship from him or gift of deeds (for the money transferred)? NOT REQUIRED. I’m afraid the transfer of large sums of money might raise a concern in the mind of the visa officer?

OR is it that the most important thing is that the money should just be in the student’s account for the 28 days period or more; YES the visa manager does not care about the source of funds? (You MAY be asked about source of funds in a phone interview, I know someone who was asked that question during her interview).

Also, do I need to pay the whole tuition fee (for the issuance of CAS) or any amount/deposit prior to applying for visa? ( what I actually mean is that can I pay part of the tuition and leave the rest in my account? (Your university will tell you how much you have to pay to get a CAS, the proportion depends on the university, in practice most ask for a part payment, you leave the rest in your account).

I know my questions are MUCH but pls, help a brother. Your vital and Swift responses will be highly appreciated. God bless you all.

There is nothing wrong with Dangote's refinery paying for crude in naira.
In theory.
After all CBN has an official exchange rate for the naira against the USD, and this is presumably what it will be asked to pay. CBN also converts fx revenues from oil sales into naira at the official exchange rate, so theoretically this is fine.

In practice, with the way the government is fawning over this refinery project, messing up with the currency and given that it actually made this announcement, one cannot help but think there's going to be some exchange rate leveraging going on in this whole transaction.

Indeed, they have mastered the art of making money. They have even mastered it better than the banks in developed countries that they learnt from undecided

You say internet banking and other channels were used. Okay. Other countries wey get better internet and IT systems wey our banks dey learn from probably don’t know how to use these channels like Naija banks angry

Not "they don't know how to".
Better put: "They cannot do so because they are not allowed to and the government will probably sanction them, while the public outcry will definitely expose them".

Banks in other countries were hearing ‘ween’ in 2020 as a result of Coro pandemic, lockdowns and curfews while Naija banks are reporting huge profits and declaring dividends grin

Na wa o...

In other countries, banks actually offer banking services: they give out loans, collect interest, etc. So economic downturns affect them in that they have to give payment holidays, lose interest income, face the prospect of some of their loans going bad, etc.
In Nigeria, our banks debit all customers for ostensibly small amounts regularly, this forms a reliable source of income for them whether or not the oil and gas people and others pay up the already massive interest on their facilities. Retail banking customers can be safely ignored, even where they exist.

Eventually got someone to help sort out the accommodation. We got a 3bed at Dunfermline @£680pm and deposited £680 as well. The house came unfurnished and I got most of the household items free via FACEBOOK market place and gumtree.

Quarantine ended on Friday, we moved to Scotland on Saturday via train. It was a smooth journey. Hubby was able to pick up all our BRPs. We registered with NHS and I was also able to get an appointment with a GP for Wednesday. I am due at any moment (36 weeks).

So far, the weather no be here sha as I have no shock absorber for cold

Hello All,

I would like you to share your knowledge and insights with me on this tax matter.

Assume that you're working for a multi-national company in Lagos and you periodically set aside around 60% of your net monthly pay and invest same into the shares of well-run companies listed on the NSE.

Assume further that at the end of ten years of working with the multi-national company, you decide to resign and incorporate your own company by being a distributor for the multi-national company's products.

However, before the incorporation of your company, you sold all your overvalued shares in your personal name and moved the proceeds into your newly incorporated company's bank account. In this case, would the person be liable to pay any tax to the Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) or the FIRS based on the proceeds from his liquidated shares?

Thank you.

Advisable you consult a tax advisor and get [paid] professional advice since you want to stay on the right side of the law.

If not, you have to go online and search for someone based outside the country who will charge you significantly higher, in the range of 40 - 50 euro per page.

After 2 hrs I received an email from gtb and got another call from my acct officer. The first question he asked was that who uploaded the statement for me I told him an agent he now said the agent tempered with it that he added some figures to it which was not on the original statement that they av cross checked the one embassy sent nd the one I sent to him....I started crying immediately I called my agent, he picked nd I asked him if he tempered with...cud u believe this guy denied again it was at that point I tot of arresting him...fast forward we got him arrested around 5pm in the evening but got bailed out same day...I regretted using an agent..Pls house this should serve as an example to everyone planning to use an agent ooo...I have learnt my lessons oooo

Pls my question is with what happened now, can I still apply to Dublin probably next year?

Thanks

Do not.
Save your money.
The Irish are very difficult (I've lived in Dublin before), they share info with the UK, and I would assess your chances of getting an Irish visa at zero.

Good Day All,
Trust our new year is off to a great start.

I have been a silent reader and I’m unable to login but I just have to use another account to appreciate all the people here.

I started following the Canada Thread as far back as 2016 and was preparing myself for Student Visa application up until 2020 for January 2021 intake but to the glory of God I got rejected October 2020 (Trust me when I say i dotted my T’s and crossed my I’s, Lol!)

It is very important for me to have my masters abroad in 2021 (for personal reasons) so I had to look for an alternative, this was when I started making findings about UK schools. I remember joining this UK group and seeing CAS, TLS, UKVI etc. I was extremely confused and was wondering where to start from hence I read over 300 pages of the last thread so I could catch up and be current plus I had to Google the slightest thing for better understanding (did all this in a month)

Long story short, I got my Visa today!
Received CAS - 25th November
Applied - 26th November
Biometrics - 2nd December
Decision Mail - 22nd December
Collection Mail - 4th January
Pick Up - 5th January
Ikeja TLS, Standard.

I just had to come back to thank you all!! I will also try to sort out my account issues and be a constant member that can contribute and give back by responding to people’s questions .

Really appreciate!

This is a good student.
