faithzy: You made one application to an embassy for a visa. It was refused. You appealed the decision. The appeal was dismissed. So your initial refusal stands. This is only one application, one case and hence one refusal, I don't see how it can be considered to be two separate refusals. In your UK visa form, indicate it as only one refusal from whichever country that was. 6 Likes |

Your lawyer will be able to give you specific advice, but I think its almost a given that the child's father will be brought into the matter especially given the different last names in your case and I think you should be specifically ready for that. |

DexterousOne: Nothing, but nothing will justify a second lockdown in Naija. The lives vs livelihoods pendulum should come down firmly on the side of the latter. The oyibo man has the economic and political flexibility to play around with lockdowns (money to pay for furloughed employees, relatively stable societies which can understand the measures, be persuaded to agree therewith, etc.). We don't. While Covid is undoubtedly a bad thing to those whose family and friends died from or were sickened by it, in the harsh light of reality, the Covid fatality rate is simply not high enough to justify the severe, once-in-a-generation economic pain the lockdown measures cause and which unstable societies in Africa might not be able to withstand. 1 Like |

PMID: Pre CAS form? If you havent yet filled the UKVI visa application, then you can select any location for the biometrics. Once you have made a selection, you can't change your selected location unless you cancel the application and complete another form. |

Kcivskod: Money can go in and out. Just ensure that the balance on the account never falls below the amount you need to show. E.g. if you need to show UKVI the equivalent of 10,000 pounds, let's say you use a naira exchange rate of 600 to 1 (rate used for illustration purposes, you'll need to check for the exact exchange rate to use on oanda.com and advisedly add a little buffer to allow for fluctuations), making 6 million naira, then ensure that your balance does not fall below 6 million naira at any time during the 28 days no matter how you withdraw. 2 Likes |

Sweetkid: If you are in the UK and have the entitlement to work, then you tell the company that you've yet to get a NiNo, they will know what to do in terms of arranging a temporary code. And if you havent already applied, apply fast - they're no longer holding interviews due to Covid, so that has speeded up the process somewhat. |

NL1960: My brother, Warri is a microcosm of the Nigerian failure. When they were doing all the nonsense kidnapping and other crap, they thought the IOCs had no choice but to put up with it because "money dey here na". Now look at the place. It's a shadow of its former self, just like Nigeria as well, and on the way to obscurity and irrelevance except as a case study in How Not to Shoot Yourself in the Foot, most probably just like Nigeria as well. 2 Likes |

TMJDiva: You'll be better off if you have a family member/friend in the UK you can totally rely on - coming to the UK alone with a baby planning to take it out to a childminder/creche every so often so you can attend your classes while trying to adjust to a new environment will require a herculean effort on your part. My advice - recruit a suitable female relation and leave the baby at home with your husband and instead travel with one of your older children, old enough to either be in primary school and be comfortable sat in front of a TV for the 2 weeks quarantine period/any time it takes you to find a permanent address before you can register them in school. Bottle-feeding wont kill anyone. Then when your husband's done, he brings the other two children across. 2 Likes |

duchess90: This should be pinned somewhere on this page for all those newly moving to the UK. Apart from the novelty of driving RHS cars for many of us, coming from Nigeria, take it that you are NOT a good road user w.r.t signage and all that. Don't just enter the road people, take lessons first. RHS is also tricky when you are LHS, sometimes you lose attention and wander or look the wrong way. Best to start with short routes first, then gradually expand scope. |

LagosismyHome: The centralised issuing of birth certificates at the federal level through the NPC started in '92. Prior to that, birth certificates were issued by the states through the local governments (and they still are), so there was no national record of births and deaths (for statistical, planning purposes) like what obtains in many other countries. In theory anyone born in Nigeria after 1992 is supposed to have an NPC-issued birth certificate, but sometimes parents don't or can't get one. 4 Likes |

Sholapey: It's the colour hierarchy thingy - Indians, Arabs and Turks, Chinese et al are more racist towards blacks than Europeans are. Except some of those Asians in the UK, who are property owners and sometimes show solidarity with blacks when it comes to renting out houses and things like that - they've also experienced racism from oyibo, so they are sometimes more sympathetic to those also experiencing it. But in general, they are lousy when it comes to race relations. That said, however, I do agree with all said about their ability to get ahead in the world and it is indeed something we should be emulating. 6 Likes |
