smoothine: How were you able to pay for 4 people on one application? Normally each application has a separate IHS and application fee paid for it. If you paid for 4 people on the partner application, then contact them for a refund, but you will still have to pay the IHS for the child dependant visa, that is the way the system is structured. |

mrchemist: You can use it for admission, not a problem, but since you're applying for a visa next year, you might as well just renew the passport now. It's November already and passports can be renewed when they have 6 months validity left on them. And if you're applying for January intake and are successful, without renewing your passport, it will expire on you in the UK and trust me when I say you don't want to go near that lousy place on Northumberland Avenue. 2 Likes |

Lazyyouth4u: I have to agree with you here. Nigerian banks are probably the most risk-averse entities on the planet and considering their operating environment one can't really blame them. Everyone is now going full holding company-mode and expanding to other African countries while Emefiele continues to fool around with CRR debits in the vain hope of driving the "real" economy. 1 Like |

ultron12345: I fully agree that the best form of government is an enlightened benevolent dictatorship, Singapore-style. But the odds of that successfully happening in most countries are very low. Chavez in Venezuela had the right mindset, but was economically illiterate, Castro in Cuba had the power and the will to get things done, but only achieved success in the social sphere and none in the economic, and so on. In the absence of a tried and proven template for selecting enlightened benevolent dictators, we default to democracy. And for clarity, what we have in Nigeria is not democracy, we don't elect our "leaders". 6 Likes |

My opinion is that the address doesn't matter. In the past, when the TB thing was newly introduced, they would do an Xray on immigrants/long stay visa holders at Heathrow on arrival. I think the purpose of the address they ask for on your TB cert is for tracing purposes, (I think there's supposed to be a follow-up TB screening at your GP after you arrive the UK), but given that they will of course know what school you end up in, it doesn't really matter what address you use as they can get hold of you when they want if you fail to show up for the follow-up. However, being on the safe side is always a good thing, so invest that 9k. 2 Likes 1 Share |

LegitBoyy: This particular LLM specialisation is not likely to fetch you much. Truth be told, the market for solicitors and lawyers of all stripes is not really favourable, but if you must do an LL.M, choose a different specialisation. I would suggest areas like financial regulation and compliance, tax law, public procurement law, etc. Avoid "international" law in all its iterations as well as the "oil and gas" crap. 4 Likes |

Yemite14557: Except you have a huge amount of money at your disposal, and you lay out a detailed plan for childcare and how you will pay for it in a cover letter, my advice will be to simply mention your baby son as a dependant in your application form, but not to make an application to take him along with you. 1 Like |

Yemite14557: If you don't have a formal custody document and the mother agrees to your taking him to the UK, then let her set that out in writing in a consent letter. Your case will be immeasurably strengthened if you can show that you have been caring/ providing for your son all along (think evidence of payment of school fees receipts, medical bills/insurance, things like that). 1 Like |

SamReinvented: Nigerians are definitely undertaxed, but the social contract between the government and the people fell apart long ago, and increased taxation will definitely be met with resistance as long as people perceive their money as going toward funding Aisha Buhari's Neck Pain Adventures to Dubai or buying 2020 Camrys for a bunch of idlers. In other words, the only feasible way the government can seriously raise revenue apart is by putting more people into the tax net with new indirect taxes. 6 Likes |

quin9: The options are to either apply as a family or you apply alone and your husband and daughter come to visit for limited periods on visitor's visas. This will mean that they cannot reside with you in the UK. Holding a US passport doesn't confer UK residence rights, so irrespective of which passport your daughter uses, the residency permission granted will be the same. |

OBYNOWEST12: Buy a scale, one of the digital ones which you attach to your luggage and use to lift the bag/box/piece of luggage so it can read the weight. They are generally accurate - Game in Lekki Mall sells a very good one. Allow for a kilo or so to cover any variables in weighing equipment (e.g. if I have a 23kg allowance, I get my bag to weigh in at 22kg max), and try to make sure that each piece of luggage comes under your allowed limit because the airlines are strict about charging for excess baggage these days, they need money. Secondly, I too am a frequent traveller and have luckily never been extorted or been compelled to "drop", but it can happen to anyone. I used to willingly "drop" 200 at Customs in the bad old days before they brought in the scanner machine and used to search your luggage by hand, when carrying the food our Nigerians crave in London or simply because I disliked people disarranging my carefully stuffed luggage (I used to prefer carrying just one piece of luggage, a big strapped canvas rucksack which I stuff tightly with my clothes, yet another smaller backpack, laptop, etc., and unpacking and repacking that thing on the Customs table na work). Remember that the agencies at the airport have statutory powers, e.g. Customs is empowered to search your luggage, so is NDLEA and Immigration with those not-so-undercover pseudo-security service guys they have there to check your passport and ask routine questions such as why you're travelling, etc., and in a corrupt country like Nigeria these powers are open to abuse. If they want to extort or delay you or make your life difficult they will. The truth is they generally don't, but they can. Customs might decide to do a body search, Immigration might decide your visa/passport/passport stamp(s) appears fake. Only big men have full rights in Nigeria. 5 Likes 2 Shares |

DexterousOne: Lol. The hope is smaller by the day because I cannot but suspect Emefiele is taking more and more leaves out of other central banks' playbooks as he acquires more and more powers to essentially manage Nigeria's economy. Earlier this year, as part of a project I was handling, I had to read a hugely interesting report on Argentina's currency control measures introduced last year and post-lockdown, I can see the CBN reaching for some of those measures. |
