Deacon James and his wife decended the staircase into the landing downstairs where Mayor was cleaning his father car.
"Dad... Mum, are you ready?" He asked.
"Yes. We need to be in church as early as possible. There will be a workers meeting and a meeting between the church elders, and according to the G.O, he wants everything done quickly, at least before twelve noon when the youth camp would be opened." His mother explained.
"So, that explains why Chris will have to be home until that time?" He asked.
"Yes." The old lady replied.
"I see." He drawled.
His father opened the driver side of the car and hopped in.
"It feels good to be behind the wheels once again." The old man retorted.
"That's the drill dad. Nothing is sweeter than driving." Mayor laughed.
"Certainly, but I seriously think you should talk to your sister. You really hurt her last night and you should apologise." Deacon James said with seriousness all over his face.
Mayor quickly looked at his mother with the hope of a bailout.
"I concur with you. As much as Chris is Tina's son, he is your boy. The last thing the boy needs is enemity between his mother and the person he has always looked up to. So, try and make peace with her." His mother adviced.
"Okay dad, okay mum. I will just go in now, grab a shirt and head over to her office. I am sure she won't take my words against me. She knew I spoke out of anger." Mayor replied.
"Good boy."
Five minutes later, Deacon James and his wife drove out of the house leaving Christopher in custody of Mayor and his friends.
"Where to?" Majid, one of Mayor's friends asked.
"I have an appointment by nine." He replied.
"With who?" Majid asked.
"Don't ask me. It doesn't matter." With this, Mayor exited the house with one sole aim; making peace with his elder sister.

Tina picked her handbag and stood up to leave the hospital ward where Tony was being treated.
She had earlier being called by the FBI boss who instructed her to go over and sign some papers mandating the hospital to discharge him, on account that he would be moved without delay into the FBI medical centre. And Tina after she was done with the assignment felt it necessary to say 'hello' to her colleague. Afterall, he was on the hospital bed because she called him to action.
"Please wait." The voice unmistakably belonged to Tony, contrary to the Doctor's instruction that he was sleeping. "Good morning." He greeted as soon as he saw Tina drop her handbag.
"Good morning to you too. How are you now?" Tina replied politely.
"Am good." He replied with a long searching look which bored deep into her eyes, a gesture which made her uncomfortable, such that, she knew if she allowed him to stare a little longer, he will see what her heart, mind and soul is made up. She looked away.
"Why are you here?" He asked.
"Transfer." Tina replied.
"No. I don't want to be transferred. I love it here, the staffs here are professional."He replied.
"I am following orders." Tina replied.
"So, I won't get to see you again?"
"What?" She was shocked to the marrow, but quickly got herself together. "Of course you will. You will even get to see me everytime until you are back on your feet. I mean, you are recieving treatment in the same building as my office." She explained.
"You don't get it. Our privacy. You can't show up anytime, and even of you do, people will talk."
"What do you mean?" She needed no soothsayer to tell her where he was heading with his talk, neither does she need a seer to tell her where he was coming from.
"I love you Tina. I always have and I still do." The words came at their own accord, even though he couldn't take them back.
"It's impossible. No. I mean.... You don't know me.... Its too early.." She stammered.
"It is very possible. Did you know the things I have done to ensure that we always be together. I was in Logistics by the time I met you and because of you I joined the field operators with the aim of seeing you often. I am on this bed today because I took a bullet on your behalf. The merging of FBI and N.A.T.U was all my idea."
"What? You mean you knew about the attack on N.A.U? Or are you the one behind it?" Tina asked in shock.
"Don't get me wrong....." He tried to explain, but the sound of the door slamming shut was enough to take the words off him.

--tbc--
QUESTIONS OF THE DAY;
1. Chris left alone with Mayor's friends, what do you think will happen?
2. Do you sincerly think Tony had something to do with the attack on N.A.T.U or Danny Lovato.
3. Tony in love with Tina. Fresh rivarly with Mark?

CHAPTER 17
"Where did you go?" Her mother attacked as soon as she entered the living room. "Don't tell me you went to beat Christopher out of there."
"I only corrected him." Tina replied.
Just then, her father walked out from the hallway which connects with his room and at the same Mayor barging into the living room.
"Good evening dad." Tina quickly went on her knees to acknowledge tge presence of the man she has never seen a good side of him in over thirteen years. She was the apple of his eyes before she got pregnant in her second year in the university, and since then, their relationship has been strained and the few times they spoke to each other, they were exchanging greetings. Even when Tina and her younger brother acquired the present house they live, with Tina contributing forty percent and Mayor the other seventy percent, it took the intervention of friends before the old man accepted the gift, simply because he was yet to forgive Tina for the one time misake she made years back.
"So, if I didn't come out, you won't greet me?" The old man asked as he sat down. "Calm down young man." He said to Mayor who was trying hard to be noticed.
"Mayowa dear, what's the matter?" His mother asked.
"Ask her." He said referring to Tina.
"Christie, what's the matter?" The elderly woman asked.
"First of all Mum, Mayowa, you must be very s.tupid for talking to Mum like that. What do you take her for? She asked you a question and someone in his right senses should know how to answer question from elders. Maybe you still think you are a kid." Tina scolded her little brother.
Mayor opened his mouth to talk but was cut halfway into pronouncing his first word.
"Keep quiet young man." His father said angrily.
Silence took over the room immediately. "Is it because you have started making money? Is it because you are twenty seven? Is it because you have women both old and young at your beck? Is that why you think you can disrespect your mother, my own wife?" Deacon James rose angrily.
"Am sorry sir."
"Better be. Now apologize to your sister." The old man ordered.
"Am sorry dad, but I can't." Mayor muttered.
"Then get out of here."
"Daddy, you can't send him away. You should know the reason behind their fight." Mrs James advised.
"Thank you mum. You can imagine Tina coming downstairs to warn me to keep my friends away from Chris. I mean, is it possible for Chris to come to harm while I'm present?" Mayor explained.
"No one is talking about harm here, but influence. Your friends who drinks and smoke, what other thing could Chris possibly learn from them?" Tina asked. "I still stand by my word, tell your friends to keep their distance unless they want to see another side of me. I don't know why dad accepted to house them in the first place."
"Fine, your son should keep his distance too. Sound this note of warning into his head." Mayor replied before storming out of the room.
------------------------------------------
Kim sat on the bed staring into space as her husband slept peacefully.
"If care is not taken, you will loose your husband to another woman who would be too difficult to fight." A voice said to her, stirring her back to life.
"Sweetheart." She called. "Mark!" she shook him.
"Yes?" He replied.
"Wake up." She snapped.
"I wasn't sleeping." He replied.
"What?" She asked in suprise. "You mean....?
"Yeah! I was awake all these while." He replied with raised voice. "so, what is it you wanna talk to me about?"
"Do you love me?" She asked.
Not alone was the question the least she was expecting, he was caught off guard.
"I.... I.... I don't know." He replied sincerly, because lying would be a great disservice to his feelings.
Kimberly sighed deeply. "Is it because of her?" She asked.
"What?" Mark asked in return.
"Is it because of Tina?" This time, her voice was shaky.
"Yes." And the most dreaded word escaped his lips.
"Nooooooo." She screamed.

--tbc--
QUESTIONS OF THE DAY;
1. Do you think Mark is making a mistake?
2. Do you see Kimberly returning to the States without a fight?
3. Is it really a dead end between Mark and his pregnant wife?

The time was 7pm when Tina walked into her parent's residence in Lekki.
"Good evening mum." She greeted her mother who sat in the dinning area reading the bible and other christian magazines.
"Good evening dear." Her mother replied standing up to go meet her halfway into the living room. "How are you feeling now?" she asked. "Sorry, we couldn't come to the hospital. One of the elders in our church died this morning, plus your colleague who called us said it was nothing serious." Her mother explained. "Have you eaten?"
"Mummy!" Tina bursted into laughter. "Am not a kid."
"To me, you are still a kid." Her mother replied.
Tina laughed. "Where's my son?" she asked.
"He is inside with Mayowa and his friends."
Tina felt her insides burn at the mention of her younger brother's friends. "Mayowa and those friends of his are here?" She asked alarmed.
"Yes. Any problem?" Her mother replied.
"Just a minute. Which room are the staying?" She asked.
"Downstairs."
At once, Tina rose up and made for the exit.
----
On getting to the entrance into the apartment downstairs, she knocked and the door was opened moments later by Chris who jumped on her excitedly. But his excitement was cut short when a knock came down hard on his head.
Angrily, she dragged him away not minding his cries?
"Chris, what's the matter? Who is at the door?" Different masculine voices asked from within.
"Tina." Mayor called from the door. "Good evening." He greeted.
"Good evening." Tina replied. "Chris, go upstairs."
"why did you hit him?" He asked.
"He is my son. Tell me what your friends are doing here?" she asked.
"They are my friends. And I don't think you have the right to question their staying here, as long as dad and mum agreed to house them for a while." Mayor replied.
"Fine, then your friends should stay clear of my son." With this, she walked away.
------
Kimberly walked out of the room into the living room where Mark sat watching a movie on his laptop.
"Darling, when did you return? I never heard you come in. Not even the sound of your car." She asked.
Mark ignored her and increased the volume of the movie he was watching.
"Mark." She called angrily but still got no response.
This singular act infuriated her as she angrily pressed the laptop's power button and the screen went blank.
Mark gave her one last look, stood up with his bottle of water and walked out of the living room. Kim, being someone who doesn't give up immediately followed him.
"What the hell is your problem? Is it because I came to visit Tony in the hospital? Just say that you don't like him, because I remembered doing dinners with your colleagues back home, why should it be different in Nigeria?" She poured out.
"Will you let it slide please?" Mark spoke for the first time.
"No, I won't. Its not as if I cheated on you. And as long as you are still seeing that Christina or whatever her name is, I won't cut friendship ties with Tony."
"Fine, and you can as well move in with Tony or return to the states." He replied.
"You are wrong. I am here to stay, as long as you are here."
"Lets wait and see." With this, Mark walked out on her.

Mark walked into the room but stopped abruptly at the sight of a male figure standing a few steps away from Tina.
"What's going on here?" He asked.
Daniel Martin turned and gave him a blank stare.
"Good afternoon, I'm Daniel." He said extending his hand for a handshake which Mark stared at with contempt. "Daniel Martin." He added for clarity sake.
"Mark." Mark muttered almost inaudibly.
"Just Mark?" Daniel asked, probably expecting Mark to introduce himself with his full name.
"No. Mark and Psalm." Mark replied coldly.
Daniel turned to Tina who had a frightened look on her face. The reason behind the look, no one could fathom, even though a critical thinker or someone who is a bit close to the trio and particularly, Christina would conclude that, she was scared by the presence of Daniel.
Daniel as a person represent a huge scar in her life or was responsible for a huge scar in her life, which was impregnating her very early, and while he was able to move on and make something out of his life, Tina found it difficult to get her shattered life back in one piece. Therefore, seeing him once again could mean a return to finish what he started over a decade ago.
From another perspective, one could not but conclude that Tina, aware of the existing bad blood between two men was afraid of them facing off.
"Excuse us Mister." Daniel said to Mark who remained defiantly, staring murderously into space. "Tina, tell him to excuse us."
"Mark...." Tina called but was cut short by a visibly enraged Mark.
"Like seriously? You are asking me to excuse you two? Who is he to boss you around?" Mark asked.
"Mark, please am sorry." She pleaded. "You know he is Christopher's dad." She added.
"So? Where was he when you took full responsibility of the boy for over thirteen years? Now that the boy is matured enough, he reappreared from wherever he was hiding and you embraced him as if he is a hero." Mark poured out angrily.
Daniel smiled, guilt written all over him.
"Mark, please don't talk to him like that. He is my guest, my problem and not yours. So, let him be." Tina replied.
"Fine. I will just get out of here." Mark said and made for the door.
"And please, don't bother checking back on me, because, as soon as he leaves." she said pointing at Daniel. "I will head home."
Mark scoffed and exited the ward.
Now alone with the mother of his child, Daniel took a bold step towards Tina's bed. Afterall, she just called him her guest and her problem. And most importantly, she walked out her best friend and colleague at work because of him.
"I wonder what's always wrong with that dude. He feels overly important." He broke the silence.
"Hey Mister. The fact that I walked out Mark doesn't mean you are spending the next minute here. So, if you will please excuse me, I want to sleep."
"Sleeping will do you no good. But first, you should know why am here." Daniel replied.
"The reason why you are here is as unimportant as you yourself. Get out now or I call the security." She threatened.
"You can call the men of the Nigerian army, but be rest assured that nothing can take me away from here." He bragged.
Tina hissed and laid back on the bed, turning her back on him.
"I thought we could talk like matured and educated beings, but you disappointed me. Anyways, this is a court warrant, I am seeking the custody of my son. So, get prepared and get your lawyer." He dropped the paper on her bed and made for the door.
"Mark!" She called.
He stopped with a smile on his face.
"You are dragging me to court?" She asked.
"Yeah." He replied.
"Good! But you took this step very late. I am five steps ahead of you." She explained.
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"You don't need to know what I mean. But, you can meet your lawyer, he is in the best position to explain the steps I have taken." She replied.
"Don't blackmail my lawyer. Lets meet in court."
"How sure are you that the boy in question is your son?" Tina dropped the bombshell.
"What?" Daniel asked with clenched fists.
That moment, the door opened and Mark walked in with a small handbag.
"Here, change into your clothes. Your time is up here." He threw the bag at Tina who got off the bed at once and made for the bathroom.
"Sorry boss! You lost this case. Now bounce." Mark mocked pointing to the door.
"On the other hand, money wins for me." He adjusted his shirt and bounced out of the room.

By the way, who bore clara? Please, dnt tell me she is mark's sister? Tell me Tina was kindda adopted. BTW, if clara and Mark r siblings, that means that mark is tailing his sis. And then Tina's bro is also a criminal who is wanted at the moment. Hmmmm......

Been a while here...Thanks for the updates dee..#TeamMarkandTina..

In my opinion,nt to derail the thread,I think the words dee said to shebarh is slightly too much....We are following your story and as a writer, mostimes you know when you'd be occupied with your personal stuffs, you can tell us before hand that you'd be absent for days not after..You are not under an obligation to tell us why you were absent though but you can just tell us you'd be absent..

To Shebarh: compliment/comment both when there are updates and when der are none..Peace!
The words are too much? Jeez!

Do you think my being absent is preplanned? No.

All of my absences are unexpected. If I tell you update drops in an hour and I fail to update. what will you call that?

As far as I am concerned, every time I fail to update, I come here and give reasons why I was absent.

I don't know your schedule and you don't know mine. I spend 15minutes typing each updates and to get that fifteen minutes is like digging the ground for oil.

To say my words are too much is something I don't understand. What did I say? I merely said things as they are. You don't expect me to fold my arms and watch someone tell me things that are not.

Tina sat on her bed thinking about the events of the previous hours of the day. She could vividly remember how the day began. She had first driven Chris to her parent's house where he will stay until it is safe for him to return home. She knew it was her responsibility to protect Chris from all manner of danger or anything that could prove threatening to his safety. Hence, her decision to allow him stay with her parents pending the time that normalcy would be restored around her. Especially, now that Daniel Martin knew where she lived and could decide to show up unannouced, and being caught unawares it thing she wanted at the moment.
Part of her safety measures was acting unprofessionally by preventing the police or whatever agency it is that is interested in his story as the only witness who saw the man who planted a bomb inside N.A.T.U. Despite recieving backings from Collins and Mark, she knew it was still unprofessional of her, but anything to protect Chris was worth doing.
The door into her ward opened and a nurse clad in blue uniform walked in.
"These nurses lack manners. How will you just barge into a patient's ward without knocking?" She thought.
"Good afternoon Ma." The nurse greeted.
"Aunty Nurse." Tina smiled.
"There is a man in the reception asking to see you." The nurse informed.
"A man?" Tina asked.
She knew whoever was looking for her must be from any of the security agencies. Mark left twenty minutes ago, Tony was indisposed and on admission in another ward. The only man who could be asking to see her was none other person but Collins. Even at that, the chances of it being Collins was very slim, because anybody from N.A.T.U, FBI, SSS, NPF or any other security agency in the country would be allowed into the ward once his identity has been confirmed.
"What's his name?" She asked.
"Am sorry, but he specifically asked me not to reveal his identity. He said it is meant to be a suprise. Sweet suprise he called it." The nurse replied.
Tina knew at once that whoever was planning a suprise for her must be someone very close to her, and that narrowed he guess down to her younger brother, Mayor.
"Let him in please." She said excitedly.
She quickly adjusted herself on the bed as she awaited the arrival of her unknown guest
Moments later, the nurse returned and pushed the door opened wider for her guest to enter. Her face fell instantly at the sight of her visitor.
"Come on in sir." The nurse urged as she flashed Tina a sweet smile.
"What's he doing here?" Tina asked herself. "Who told him I am here?"
------------------------------------------
Mark parked his car inside the premises of a micro finance bank at the end of the street where the state teaching hospital was located. He remained seated in his car until he was sure that Kimberly must have left for home. Slowly, he eased the car out of the bank and joined the hospital road. Even though he was yet to understand the Lagos roads, he still had the basic knowledge, and so far, he hasn't ran into any problem with the road safety officials or the LASTMA agents.
The last thing he wanted at the moment was Kimberly's nagging. And going home will mean having another heated argument from her.
"Welcome back oga." The security man greeted.
"Thank you." He replied as he into an empty space between a familiar Range Rover sport and the hospital's ambulance.
"What's he doing here?" Mark thought as he hurriedly made for the elevator.
"You came back?" A doctor asked as he walked into the reception.
"Yeah." He replied and made for Tina's ward.
"Excuse me sir." A nurse stopped him.
"Yes?"
"There is someone with her." The nurse said.
"Its not a bad thing for two people to be with her is it?" He asked and with this he entered the hallway.

Mark barged into the ward where he suspected that Tony was held and true to his suspicion, his beautiful wife sat on the bed beside a sleeping Tony.
"You'll be fine." Were the last of her words Mark heard before his anger skyrocketted.
"What the hell are you doing here?" He screamed.
From her reaction, one could tell that she was shocked, but she quickly hid the shock behind a forced smile.
"Hey! Sweetheart." She moved closer with open arms.
"Stay where you are." He whispered.
Kimberly opened her mouth in shock. "What?"
"What's your business here?" He asked.
"Tony was attacked and am here to see how he is." She replied calmly.
By now, Tina had limped into the ward. "Hi." She greeted Kim who rolled her eyes in reply.
"Why are you the one checking on him? I don't just get the equation. Why are you the first outsider checking on him? None of his relatives are here yet, and you came here rushing. It just doesn't add up. Or what are you trying to prove?"
"Its doesn't matter if his relatives are here or not. I'm a friend, and frienship conquers all obstacles." Kim replied.
"Oh! Friends my foot. You arrived this country and the first thng you did was to start was make friends. What were you thinking?"
"You have no moral justification to question who I make friends with. Afterall, I lost you the moment you came into Nigeria. The moment you met her." Kim replied.
"Oh! You lost me? And so shall it be." Mark said, and without another word, stormed out of the ward leaving an enraged Kimberly behind with an indifferent Tina.
"So what? What are you waiting for?" She asked.
"Am sorry. Was just about to leave." Tina almost stuttered. She seemed to be intimidated by Kimberly's presence. Suddenly, she got her confidence back.
"I think you should talk things through with Mark. Individual ego is not a good thing. Your marriage is too early to fail."
Kimberly bursted into laughter. "Coming from a baby mama who is yet to experience marriage. Better face the raising of your son and ensure that your baby's daddy contributes his own quota." Kim poured out mockingly before grabbing her handbag.
Just as she walked past Tina, an invisible feeling shook her body, and out of reflex, she dragged Kim back to her front.
"The next time you talk to me like that, I will show you why this place is called Nigeria."
kim snatched her hand from Tina's hold an action which sent the later crashing into the chairs arranged bext to the door, but thanks to the wall, Tina found her balance.
"Sorry." Tony who by now was awake said.
Tina nodded with a smile before limping out of the ward.

Mayor walked into the room assigned to his friends to see Chris seated beside one of them as they watched a music video on his laptop.
"sit up guys." Mayor commanded as he sat down. "Excuse us Chris." He added, and dutifully, the little boy stood up and exited the room.
"So, whatsup?" The guys asked expectantly.
"My dad has agreed to take you guys in for two months, provided you participate in devotion before bed and at daybreak." Mayor explained. "And no smoking, no sniffing within the walls of this house. Avoid getting drunk and no loud music."
"Yes boss." they chorused.
Mayor stood up and made for the door, he stopped suddenly. "That reminds me. There is a job, Dragon was filling me in before he died. A particular Adeola who wants a boy whose picture I suppose is with you to be kidnapped. Can I see the boy, and what are the plans?"
"Dragon only told us about it. He never showed the picture of the boy." One of them replied.
Mayor studied the one who replied for a while. "Are you guys planning behind me? Are you taking jobs without my knowledge?" He asked.
"No." They choruse.
"I hope so." With this, he walked out of the room.

I have a clear understanding of word usage and their meaning.
If I tell you I am hungry, it means I want to eat. So its not until I tell you I want to eat before you know.
Its annoying. What exactly is annoying? My lack of update. And breaking it down further. To stop it being annoying, I must update. And you are telling me you did ask for update.

I won't tell you anything. Rather, tell me where you have been for the past X years and Y months.

lipsrsealed lipsrsealed :-XGod knows y am keeping quiet... waiting patiently even tho it's annoying
What exactly is annoying? My lack of update?
I don't think it should be. You want to know why? Okay, I'll tell you.
For some four days, I couldn't update and you came here almost everyday of those four days to tell us about your displeasure cos there were no updates. I came around and for five consecutive days I dropped at least one update per day. Suprisingly, throughout those five days, you commented just twice. Now, I've gone some days without updating and you are here with your comments.
What does that tell you? You only comment steadily when there are no updates. So far you don't come here everytime there are updates, you have no moral justification to complain if there are no updates.
You get my drift?
Did you even ask yourself why I haven't updated? Anything could have happened. Sickness, death, out of data subscription. Did you ask yourself?
Except something else is annoying. But if my lack of update is annoying, I think I have replied you to the best of my ability and the highest level of civility.
