President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial list contains a number of familiar All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders such as Babatunde Fashola, former governor of Lagos state, and Rotimi Amaechi, former governor of Rivers state, TheCable can report. Also nominated to be minister is Lai Mohammed, national publicity secretary of the ruling party, and Kayode Fayemi, who lost his Ekiti governorship re-election bid in 2014 to Ayodele Fayose of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). From the south-east are the likes of Chris Ngige, former governor of Anambra state and former senator of the federal republic; and Ogbonnaya Onu, first executive governor of Abia state and former national chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), on whose ticket Buhari contested and lost the 2003 and 2007 presidential elections. Buhari also nominated for ministerial appointment, Aisha Alhassan, who was on the brink of becoming the first elected female governor before eventually losing the Taraba state governorship election to Darius Ishiaku of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). From his days at the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Buhari picked Malami Abubakar, a senior advocate of Nigeria and former legal adviser of the defunct party, as well as Adebayo Shittu, former governorship candidate of the party in Oyo state. https://www.thecable.ng/breaking-fashola-amaechi-ngige-onu-lai-mohammed-make-buharis-ministerial-list |

Addressing newsmen in New York on Monday, the governor said his visit to Stamford Bridge Stadium to watch Chelsea’s match against Arsenal only coincided with the invitation of a Nigeria soccer professional- Mikel Obi as part of the ongoing discussions to set up a professional sport academy in Niger State. The governor has been under fierce criticism for traveling to London to watch a football match. “The purpose of the trip was for two reasons. First, I was in London for medical check. For the past 15 years, I used to do these checks. I am not a sport fan. It is not my hobby, but whenever there is any opportunity to assist my people, I quickly grab it,” the governor said. He explained that “Obi has been booking for appointments to meet me for a long time and incidentally as I came to London, I arranged to meet him. Sa’adatu Barkindo Musdafa, the new bride of Muhammadu Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano, will go to the UK for an undergraduate course in computer science in January 2016, TheCable understands. The princess, who is a daughter of Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa, the Lamido of Adamawa, was officially given in marriage to Sanusi II on Friday after Jumma’at prayer — although the union will effectively be “on hold” until she completes her studies in 2019. A family source told TheCable that Sanusi II, an advocate of female education in northern Nigeria, is “very delighted” with the resolve of his bride to pursue her academic interest in information technology. All of his three wives are university graduates, while one of them is currently undertaking a master’s programme. TheCable learnt that Sa’adatu demonstrated significant knowledge of computer science in her O’Level, scoring an “A” in the school certificate exam. “Her ambition is to be an IT expert and she has already secured admission to a UK university to further her studies. Effectively, she will be there till the age of 21 when she is supposed to return to Nigeria and, as it were, officially assume the position of Sanusi’s fourth wife,” the source said. Female education The Lamido of Adamawa, who holds a PhD in engineering, is said to be very excited at the examples the northern royals are setting in giving education to women in a region considered to be very conservative about female and western education. Sanusi II’s first wife, Sadiya, who is a daughter of the late emir, Ado Bayero, holds a bachelor’s degree in education (history) from the Bayero University Kano (BUK) and speaks Arabic. The second wife, Maryam, holds a BA (combined honours) in Arabic and Islamic studies also from BUK and is about completing her dissertation for a master’s degree in education from the University of Abuja. She speaks Arabic and Italian. The third wife, Rakiya, has an LLB (law) from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) and an LLM from the University of London. Sa’adatu will now complete Sanusi II’s Islamic marital quota after her university education at the age of 21. Cultural differences Another family source told TheCable that the “hysteria” on the social media about the new bride was “condescending and unfair”. “To call an 18-year-old woman a child and spread propaganda about ‘child marriage’ is nothing but mischief taken to another height. In Nigeria, the legal age for marriage is 18. At that age, you can vote and you can drive. This is also the legal age for marriage in most western countries,” she said. “It is very disrespectful to Sa’adatu to call her a child. There is a lot of ignorance about Islamic concept of marriage and many people are trying to force their own traditions on Muslims with this belief that they have a superior culture. “Ordinarily, that the Lamido of Adamawa’s daughter and Emir of Kano’s wife is going to school in the UK is something that should set an example for how girls need to be educated. “It also promotes the notion that marriage should never be allowed to interrupt the education of a promising woman. There is this assumption that once you marry, your education stops. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Two of Sanusi’s wives are still pursuing their academic interests.” Sanusi’s daughters Sanusi’s “obsession” with western education for girls and women, a family friend told TheCable, is evident in his immediate family. “He has seven daughters and four of them are now undergraduates,” he said. “One is studying law at Buckingham University in the UK. The second is a biology major at New York University, US. Both will graduate next year. The third is studying accounting and finance at Swansea University, UK, while the fourth is taking media studies at the American University in Paris, France. “You can accuse Sanusi of all things but you cannot deny the fact that he takes educating girls and women very seriously. There is this stereotype out there that once a woman is married in northern Nigeria, she becomes a sex slave. It is very unfortunate.” Limits of libido Another source, who is an Islamic scholar, described as “laughable” suggestions that Sanusi took a new wife because he cannot cage his libido. “It is ridiculous to even suggest that. The emir does not need to marry any new wife if it is all about sex. After all, you have monogamists who sleep with all kinds of women any day and any time. To suggest that he took a new bride because of sex is part of the backward thinking that women are only for sex,” he said. “Those who think women are nothing but the object of sexual desire and marriage is nothing but sexual gratification need to understand the deeper meaning of marriage in Fulani and Islamic traditions. “Sa’adatu is a young lady and a princess of noble birth whose mother is also a princess, and who has been brought up in a good Muslim home. This is the kind of woman that is prepared for giving birth to princes and bringing them up for the role expected of them in the society.” A marriage of two emirates Sanusi II’s marriage also represents a “cementing” of the historical ties between the two emirates. Sanusi’s grandfather, Muhammadu Sanusi I, and Aliyu Musdafa, the father of the current Lamido (Sanusi II’s new father-in-law), were both turbaned around the same period in 1953-54. The two emirs were known to be very close friends before the death of Sanusi I, while Sanusi II’s mother also married from Adamawa at some point. “It is only natural that Sanusi II will marry from Adamawa if he decides to take another wife in the tradition of emirs and kings in most African societies,” he said. It is not uncommon in northern Nigeria for new emirs to take new wives if they have not filled their quota — and the new brides are usually princesses. Bayero, Sanusi II’s predecessor, also married princesses from Ilorin, Katsina and Sokoto. https://www.thecable.ng/exclusive-sanusis-new-bride-study-computer-science-uk-university?fb_ref=Default&fb_source=message |

PSV defender Hector Moreno has hit the headlines once again, following the tackle that broke the leg of Manchester United's Luke Shaw on Tuesday evening. Moreno challenged Shaw in the penalty area, in a tackle which was deemed fair by the referee, but caused a double leg break for the England fullback. Moreno went on to score a vital goal, and was awarded man of the match as PSV came from a goal behind to win 2-1. Back in action in the Eredivisie, Moreno went in late on Heracles winger Oussama Tannane, in an incident which forced him to hobble off the pitch. Moreno paid the price for a heavy first touch, before lunging into the tackle with his studs showing. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/psv-eindhovens-hector-moreno-injures-6480163

According to the new timetable, the

Ever since you came to office, the issue of security has been your priority. What is the present security situation? One of the decisions we took soon after we came into office was to change the service chiefs and we overhauled the infantry. We mandated the military chiefs to change the infantry, re-train them, equip them with adequate weapons and put trained and qualified commanders for the soldiers. The three states of Yobe, Borno and Adamawa know the successes being recorded now. They can attest to that. And the other parts of the country, too, are coming back to normal life. Places like Kano, where business was crippled has started to pick up. And along the Damaturu – Maiduguri road, up to Lake Chad, security has improved. So the people around the flash points know that success is being recorded. But despite this success, suicide bombers have continued to strike. Do you think this renewed effort will also end the suicide incidences? Boko Haram members have pledged their allegiance to ISIS - an insurgent group from the Middle East, with enough money and its members were brainwashed into killing innocent people, including Al-Shabab around Somalia, and Al-Qa’eda from Yemen, plus the ISIS itself around Syria and Iraq. If you can recall, ISIS even went to mosques in Saudi Arabia and killed people on about three to five occasions not to talk of doing same in Nigeria. So, the biggest problem here is how they brainwashed young people, including young girls, who go to mosques, churches, markets, motor parks and detonate bombs, kill themselves and other civilians. How we are going to overcome this is going back to the traditional security apparatus - community leaders, neighbours, district heads, emirs, who should begin to identify new faces in their localities and asked them where they come from and what brought them. They can identify them in either markets, or any other place. This is what will help us in that regard so that those planning to undertake suicide missions could be identified and they would be dealt with appropriately. Since you came into office, you have been receiving intelligence reports about this Boko Haram crisis. Did you receive any information about the whereabouts of kidnapped Chibok girls? They have scattered them, and are being guarded at dispersed locations. Most of the girls are Christians and were forced to embrace Islam. And the sect’s cruel leaders have married some of the girls, obviously against their wish. Others have been left to practice their religion but their condition could hardly be ascertained. Both ground and air security personnel in the Sambisa forest could spot where the girls are, but since the insurgents have also kidnapped housewives and other women, no one could say whether they mixed them or how they dispersed them. But efforts are being intensified and as people know, the three neighbouring governments of Cameroon, Chad, and Niger are helping us since these suicide bombers are now going to their areas and detonating the bombs in mosques and other places. Since you came into office, the anti-corruption crusade has been on the media. But are there some stolen monies which your government was able to recover? The biggest area of stealing of Nigeria’s funds was through NNPC which is the apex oil selling corporation. That was why we dissolved their board and brought someone who knows the oil sector very well, but who is not from NNPC and entrusted him with the leadership of the NNPC. And instead of the 8 major departments, four were liquidated and four continue to exist. This is because, for the past 10 years, the crude oil stealing has been going on using some vessels. By law, their owners, captains and where they are taking the crude must be known. So the method for the crude oil stealing was that those involved shipped the crude through smaller vessels and then transfer the crude to the larger vessels at distant location in the ocean, before they head to other countries. Some of them carry the crude but later change the destination. So our new approach is to get support from European countries, the US and China. Those doing the bunkering, you need to know the amount first and the banks they deposit the monies, etc. These are the things we are doing presently. And you know, those developed countries are strict on evidences and you have to show the evidences of such cases before they can assist you. If you recall, during the military regimes, such people were arrested, thoroughly interrogated and arraigned before the courts with evidences. But that is impossible now. It is democracy and even the foreign countries, where the monies are being taken to, practice democracy. The companies involved in buying the crude and the banks that kept the monies would be identified so that we would determine whether they are Nigerians or not; whether the stolen crude and its quantity was actually taken from here, sold with the Nigerian name and how what accrued to Nigeria was diverted. So, the situation is a complex one, but we are getting support from governments of those countries, including their security agencies. When we get the relevant documents, we would bring them (culprits) back to our courts and try them. We would then show the evidence to the world that the crude oil they traded was actually stolen or shipped with Nigerian name but later changed the papers and took away the money, instead of depositing them into the Central Bank of Nigeria. Recently, you said that within weeks, Nigerians would witness the prosecution of such looters in the courts. When are you precisely going to prosecute them? Actually, we are at the verge of doing that. I have just explained the difficulties involved. In the past, around 1984, the process we underwent to recover the stolen monies was different from the one we are adopting now. It was a military regime at that time, but now, ideologies of the countries involved is that until you are proved guilty, you remain innocent. And that is what we have been trying to establish: the actual identity of the people, where they took the crude to, did they really pay back the money to the CBN or to the pocket of some individuals, was the entire crude shipped or part of it. This is not an easy thing and we have never realised its complexity until recently when some foreign countries agreed to support our course. Nigerians have been eagerly awaiting the formation of your cabinet. You once disclosed that your cabinet would be revealed in September and we are in September. When will president Buhari tell Nigerians the names of his cabinet members? I said within this month. Therefore, I still have three weeks. As such, hold back your question until after three weeks, when September ends without me doing that. And you know too well that their names have to be submitted to the Nigerian Senate and the appointees will pass through the Senate’s screening before they become eligible to hold the ministerial offices. A lot of people assume that the long time you spent without forming this cabinet was due to some level of due-diligence on the people you want to bring in. Have you finished that process? The process is difficult to finish. So, we would continue the screening to come up with people that deserve to hold the positions. This is because, what I see daily in terms of the damage inflicted on Nigeria in the last 10 years is enormous. Only God knows its magnitude. Are there names that you earlier lined up for the appointments but you later discovered their complicity and then you changed your mind? There are people that deserve to hold the position because of their knowledge in either financial issues, or oil sector or even in governance. But you discover that in one way or the other, and whether they knew it or not, they were dragged to such unwholesome practices. Bringing such people will be tantamount to leaving your doors open when you have gone to rest in your apartment. Putting such people in either financial, petrol or works ministry would be dangerous because behind the scene, some people control a person. They would be dictating to them with a threat to award them contracts. This is the most frightening thing that Nigerians must understand. You need to get people who held similar post before or tried to maintain accountability. There are appointments you made recently and a section of the country alleged that you tilt your appointments to only one part of the country. What will you say about this allegation? This is the nature of Nigerian politics. If they will do justice to me, as an elected Nigerian president, let them look at the Constitution a Nigerian president works with, there are people who will closely work with me that don’t need to be taken to the Senate. If I select people whom I know quite well in my political party, whom we came all the way right from the APP, CPC and APC, and have remained together in good or bad situation, the people I have confidence in and I can trust them with any post, will that amount to anything wrong? I have been with them throughout our trying times, what then is the reward of such dedication and suffering? They did not defect because of positions, they did not involve themselves in the pursuit of personal gains, and they accepted their fate throughout our trying moments. What is wrong if I make you the secretary (of the federal government) because I have confidence that things will go normal? Lastly, people appreciate the improvement in electricity. What is the secret President Muhammadu Buhari adopted? There is nothing strange, except that I said those who bought the electricity companies and the workers must work accordingly. From 1999 to present, Nigeria’s money, totalling $20 billion, not Nigerian naira, but US dollars was spent on Nigeria’s electricity. So the companies involved in whatever way, we have been begging them to come back and work because there may be a time when the push comes to shove on how such monies were spent, the companies must execute the project or refund to Nigeria her money. http://dailytrust.com.ng/news/general/buhari-how-i-chose-my-recent-appointees/110053.html |

WHAT is presently keeping you busy? I’m here for the meeting pertaining to people going for the Nollywood Film Festival and Nollywood Europe Golden Awards holding Germany next month. We are all going courtesy of Ezoya Entertainment. I’m one of the artistes selected to attend. Were you nominated for any of the award categories? I am not very certain but I think I was. What are your expectations for the awards ceremony? This is my first time attending the awards so I don’t really know what to expect. I’ll expect the best. Career-wise, how has it been with you? Career-wise, I have been doing very good. You know it is not a competition so I just go at my own pace. Have you done any film this year? I have produced a movie and I have starred in a lot of movies this year. The last one I did that just came out is called Ara Saraphina. I think it’s out. There are a lot of movies I have done that have been released this year. I featured in Abichie The Poor by Emmanuel Ehumadu. There is also One Million Boys that was released some time back. What about your own production? I did a movie called Power Girls. It is still with the editors so we are yet to get it. When will you be releasing it? It will be coming out any time soon. I will just say soon because like I said, I am yet to collect it from my editor. What are your expectations for the film especially as regards the activities of movie pirates? I think there are lots of things we need to tackle in this country apart from piracy. If the cost of production is low, movie makers can make their money without having to bother about piracy. But now, as filmmakers, we have a lot to deal with like power generation. That has actually improved a bit now, making the cost of production to be less than it used to be. Those are the things that matter. It is not really about who is pirating and who is not because it has always been there so it will be very difficult to eradicate. A lot of things have been said or written about you, but who would you like people to know you as? I am a very deep person; I am a very spiritual person. I love people who love me and I don’t really care about what they say about me. Does it affect you in any way? It doesn’t affect me in any way when people I don’t care about talk about me. I try to make my anger so expensive that people can’t afford it, except people I love. There are those who say that you intentionally generate controversy so that you will always be in the news. How would you respond to that? It is not about intentionally generating controversy. When I’m happy, when I want to have fun, the way I have fun might be controversial for some because like right now, I came out to work and I’m looking all good but if I’m going to a party, you don’t expect me to be formal. You should also understand that what other people wear, when I wear it, it comes out different. There are different things that make me happy some people do drug but me I just like playing with my physique and playing with my attires. So that is the kick I get. Your sexuality is always in the public eye. Are you comfortable with that? I am very comfortable with myself. I love myself to bits. I love everything about me. I have no regrets. People tend to know you more with your natural endowments… (cuts in) When you talk about people, the truth is that, I don’t really care. I am having fun. Life is short. So I just do my thing. If you keep listening to people, you will just change your destiny. You won’t be able to achieve what you want. Then when you get old, you will be very annoying and irritable. Live your life. Don’t bother about all those people, especially when there is no particular name attached to these people. How do you catch fun? I love listening to music. I love dressing up. I love going out. Generally, I love doing things that make me happy. Where does your music career stand as of today? Like I always say when people ask me this question, I’m not in a competition with anybody. I’m doing good all by myself. You know, I have a good friend. He is a big name in this industry. Any money he gets, he uses it to shoot expensive videos and yet, this guy doesn’t even have a car. Why would somebody stress themselves just because they want to be on TV all the time? It’s expensive to promote music so if you do one a year, it is not a bad thing. It depends on how you cut out your life but I always suggest. If you are an up and coming, always make sure you have other things you do. Don’t rely on just one source of income. That is why we have five fingers in each hand. Try to get like five things that will keep you very busy and will make money for you. Are you working on an album? My dear, again, let me repeat it. I am not in a competition with anybody. I have a studio in my place. I bought all the equipment needed for movie production. Anything that makes me happy, I just get it. How would you describe your sense of style? My sense of style all depends on what and how I feel. So if I feel like being sexy, I know what to do. If I am going for an interview, I know how to dress. How do you relate with your fans? I love my fans. I can do anything for them. Some of them are wondering when you will be getting married… I’m looking for husband o! Will you marry me? (laughs) If I agree to marry you, what are some of the qualities you will use to rate me? (laughs) That is a very private question. http://thenationonlineng.net/im-looking-for-husband-nollywood-actress-cossy-orjiakor/ |

The Managing Director of the firm, Mr Garba Haruna, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Sokoto on Monday on the sideline of a two-day Induction of 1,020 of the new employees. Haruna, represented by the Director, Engineering and Technical Services of the company, Mr Bello Musa, added that ``such a boost of power supply is expected to create 15,000 indirect jobs in the four states.'' According to him, the new members of staff have qualifications ranging from diplomas to degrees and would be in charge of all the activities of the firm. ``The company is wholly private sector driven and anything short of hard work, dedication and commitment would not be condoned. ``The new workers must imbibe the company's agenda of providing efficient, adequate and quality services to the customers. ``We will not rest on our oars to add value to our activities and eventually boost power supply to the customers in the areas’’, he added. Haruna further stated that the company would provide over 100,000 pre-payment meters to its customers annually. www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/news/kaduna-electricity-distribution-coy-recruits-3-000-workers-official/107805.html |
