A UK based traditionalist has condemned some Nigerians who give conditions for their traditional weddings and exclude items which are used to represent their culture. Uba Acho, a hardcore traditionalist who is based in Leicester City, took to his social media page, to speak against those 'Westernising' their traditional weddings as he said a pastor would never conduct a church wedding where vital items are not displayed. Uba Acho also shared a picture of a couple who used orange juice for their traditional wedding instead of Palm wine. Read below what he shared online; What is Good for the Goose is also Good for the Gander. If I go to a pastor and said I want to do a church wedding, but I don’t want Bible around on the day, I don’t want the name of Jesus to be mentioned on the day. Because I’m Onye ogo muo (Traditionalist), I don’t subscribe to the bible and I don’t believe in Jesus. Surely no pastor or church will tolerate that. But when church goers and Christians wanna do Igbo traditional wedding, they come with hundreds of conditions, no palm wine or Mmai Nkwo, no tobacco, no itu mmai (Libetion) which we do in honour of our ancestors who laid the foundation of what we’ve gathered to do. No igu Ofor Ndu, which is our way of communing with the Gods of the land, forces of nature and all the energies that make us who we are as a community, releasing a generational and ancestral blessings and proclamations on the Union. And we keep tolerating their baggage, keep watering down the things that held us together and make us a unique people. How much more can we keep adjusting our standard for a group who’s intention is to Christianise, westernise and Europeanise every element and institution that make us a unique people? If we don’t put our feet on the ground and push back this invasion, the Igbo race will go extinct, not that Igbo people will all die off literally, but a people without an original self identity, are technically extinct in the committee of races. Like they say, give to Caesar what belongs to him and to God what belongs to him. If you go to Rome they say, behave like the Romans. If you don’t like the terms and conditions of a traditional wedding ceremony, please kuku just go and do your Church/white wedding alone or go to the Registry. Is not a must to do traditional wedding if you can’t respect its sacredness. Source; https://www.nationalhelm.co/2018/09/man-criticises-christians-for-westernising-their-traditional-weddings.html

Villagers gathered in their numbers after three elephants were spotted yesterday in Koko Besse local government area, Kebbi state. The animals would have been killed had the villagers not been previously warned by the Kebbi state governor, Atiku Bagudu. An elephant was caught last year in Kebbi before it was killed and butchered by the villagers. The host community and hunters trooped to the Kebbi State Government House with great pride to present Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu with the slaughtered elephant’s Tusks. To them, they had successfully defended their territory from a single invading elephant. Instead of the accolades the expected, they received a lifetimes worth of telling off and an educational lecture- interspersed with threats of imprisonment. Yesterday, after the three elephants were spotted, the Koko LG authorities assisted by security forces in the area successfully mobilized the community, secured the animals and kept them away from the usual threats from hunters - in order to avoid the wrath of the governor. Report has it that two Nigerian girls have been allegedly killed by their employers after being trafficked to work as housemaids in Saudi Arabia. It was gathered that the murder of the two young women occurred within a space of two weeks in the respective homes where they worked as servants by their Saudi bosses. According to Satellite Times, the first Nigerian girl to be murdered was by name Omotayo who until her death in June 2018 worked as a migrant domestic worker in Riyadh. She reportedly sent this photo to her friends in a group chat called “Strong Nigerian Ladies” – a solidarity group created by Nigerian migrant domestic workers in Saudi Arabia. Omotayo, in her June post which happened to be her last, narrated to the solidarity group her latest incident of battery in the hands of the Saudi family she worked for. Her boss and the entire family had descended on her for being disrespectful to them. The maid’s only offence was that she insisted her three-month salary arrears be paid to her. She had put her foot down saying she would no longer accept excuses for the non-payment of her salaries just as she said she was tired of eating leftover food. Her action was seen as an affront. Another Nigerian by name Shola, was also killed by her boss. Her story was told by Adeola Oladipo, another housemaid in the Strong Nigeria Ladies Group. “Shola has been constantly assaulted and starved by her sponsor in Saudi Arabia. Whenever she demands for food they would always beat her up and she became so slim like somebody with HIV. “One day her male boss came as usual to beat her while she was doing chores in the kitchen. The beating became so severe she had to defend herself with a knife. In the process the knife cut her boss and her sponsor hit her on the neck and she collapsed. When the boss saw that Shola was dying, he rushed her to the hospital where he said she suddenly fell ill. A few days later, the Nigerian gave up the ghost in the hospital.” Source; https://www.nationalhelm.co/2018/08/two-nigerian-housemaids-killed-by-their-bosses-in-saudi-arabia.html Credit; Satellite Times.

The general overseer of Victory Life Bible Church Abeokuta, Ogun state, Apostle Lawrence Achudume, has come under criticism from Nigerians after asking his church members to drop N5,000 and various amounts of money in his hand so that they can receive their blessings. In a trending video posted online, the cleric can be heard telling the congregation that if anyone has N5,000, N10,000 or N3,000, he/she should come and drop it in his hand because what he's doing is special and wants his congregation to connect to it. Church members trooped out in their numbers to drop the offering as the pastor told them that money will locate them anywhere they go. Nigerian Facebook users have heavily criticised the pastor over his mode of offering as they say that one's blessings doesn't depend on how much he or she gives. Recently, the pastor's wife, Rev. Folake Achudume, trended online after asking members of the church to give N21, 000 so they can secure a divine intervention within 21 days. In a video which went viral, the clergywoman asked those that do not have the money during the service, to come to her office within the week to drop the money. A peaceful protest occurred earlier today in front of Ebonyi State Government house by Greater Ezza Ezekuna Youth Association led by Barr. Alegu Leonard over the death of Barr. Ernest Odu. The group who were visibly angry, called on the Ebonyi State government and the Inspector General of Police to immediately to investigate as the stories that trail the death of their brother is indeed pathetic. On the protest, the youths were seen with placards with inscriptions as stated below; - Enough is enough, Onu-Odo-Edon, where is Ernest? - Inspector General of Police, please, investigate the hands behind the murder of Ernest Odu. - Because he said NO, they conspired and killed him. - They are desperate, for saying no, they killed Ernest Odu (Barr) . - Onu-Odo-Edon, please provide Ernest Odu, don't tell us story. Barr. Odu before his death was the factional All Progressives Chairman (APC) Chairman in Ezza North LGA and was alleged to have collapsed and died during Ebonyi APC stakeholders meeting that took place at Barcelona Hotel, Enugu where many were in attendance. However, the manager of the hotel and some party executives have been invited for questioning by Enugu State police command to ascertain the reason on why there was a clear attempt by some APC stakeholders and hotel management to conceal the death of the man before his family raised alarm. In response, the Ebonyi State Governor who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Dr. Emma Okorie, pleaded with the family members and protesters to be calm as the state government has received their outcry and assured them that whatever led to the death of their brother must be thoroughly investigated.
