The United States Embassy has revealed that it has shut its visa and consular services section at its embassy in Abuja indefinitely. The Embassy disclosed this in a press statement issued on Tuesday as it did not give reason for the decision.

Temporary Closure of U.S. Embassy Abuja’s Consular Section

Until further notice, all consular appointments at the U.S. Embassy in Abuja have temporarily ceased for both visa and for American Citizen Services (ACS). Consular functions in U.S. Consulate Lagos are not affected and will continue. 

Scheduled visa and ACS applicants for Abuja will be contacted for rescheduling. 

American citizens in northern Nigeria with emergency services needs should continue to contact the after-hours emergency number for Abuja at 09461-4000 and press “0” to go to the operator to request assistance. 

American citizens in northern Nigeria with urgent travel needs who are travelling before Tuesday and who are willing to re-schedule their travel through Lagos should contact the ACS office at Consulate Lagos ( 01460 3400 and LagosACS@state.gov) to discuss their options.

Those travelling after Tuesday should follow up with Abuja ACS to confirm their appointments closer to their appointment date.

A suspected cultist who was nabbed by vigilante members in Benin city, Edo state, got more than he bargained for. It was gathered that the hoodlum along with five others stormed the area (3 House Upper Sakponba) for robbery operation as they alerted the public by shooting in the air before starting to rob residents.

The criminals said to be members of the dreaded Eiye confraternity - were reported to have stolen money, television sets, mobile phones and other properties they could lay their hands on. 

The cultists also stole a goat which they killed and were about preparing for pepper soup before the arrival of vigilante.

Luck ran out on one of the cultists as the five others fled - leaving him to his fate.

He was beaten mercilessly by the security men before he was transferred to the police station for prosecution.

A woman has landed in a hospital after she was allegedly attacked by her ex-lover in Anambra state. It was gathered that the womanj identified as Nkiru Okoye had been formerly married, but broke up with her spouse, before falling in love with her ex-lover.

The young man in question is said to be younger than her, hence his family insisted that their son would never marry an older girl. The lady’s family also concurred, but the young man wouldn’t give up, it was alleged.

According to Tobenna Obiano, things got so bad when the lady insisted that they must path ways to respect their families and their excuse of age. But the young man insisted that if he doesn’t end up with the lady, no one else would have her.

It was alleged that he had once attacked her – the man had once sneaked into her room at night and tried to strangle her. Neighbors rescued her, but ignorantly, she never made any formal report either to the local vigilante or to the police.

After that, the young man sneaked in through the back door, and saw as his supposed girlfriend was about unlocking her door, he poured her a bowl of raw acid on her running down towards from her neck region, ear, back section and breast.

He poured a second one again on her, extending from her back down to all-over her buttocks and even towards her laps.

The lady has since been transferred from a hospital in Awka to an Orthopedic hospital in Enugu state ,where she’s currently being treated.

Nigerian international, Ahmed Musa has shown his new club what he's really made of after coming off the bench to score the match winner for Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr. The Super Eagles attacker scored a solo stunning goal in an Arab Club Championship clash against Al Jazira of UAE.

The Nigeria World Cup hero a minute into the interval and he blasted the winner for his new club after 75 minutes in the game played in Abu Dhabi.

It was a Round of 32 clash.

Ahmed Musa left Premier League side Leicester for the Saudi Professional League (SPL) side Al-Nassr, the Saudi Arabian club announced on August 3.

Al-Nassr said he had signed a four-year contract but did not disclose the transfer fee but thought to be £25m plus.

About 37 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who just left the orientation camp in Ogun which ended today - were involved in motor accident on their way to Sango Otta area of the state.

The lone accident involving a white Civilian Coaster Bus occurred as a result of over speeding as the driver lost control of the vehicle before the crash.

No one was killed in the crash.

19 adults (9 males and 10 females) were injured out of a total 37 Youth Corps Members in the vehicle.

The Injured victims were evacuated to FRSC Accident Emergency Clinic at Sagamu, though four of the victims with more serious injuries were referred for further medical treatment at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) Sagamu.

The FRSC Sector Commander Ogun State Command, Clement Oladele advised Youth Corps members to always caution their drivers especially during this raining season and that where such drivers refused caution - they should call FRSC toll free number 122 for the FRSC to take necessary disciplinary action against such erring drivers .

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that the August 17 deadline for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) will not be extended. The commission said the exercise would resume after the 2019 General Elections scheduled for Feb. 26 and March 2.

This has prompted the National Association of Seadogs - Pyrates Confraternity to join a host of others - to urge Nigerians to get the Permanent Voters Card (PVC) ahead of the registration deadline which is in a few days time.

In the statement issued by the association on Monday, the confraternity highlighted the importance of the PVC and how it will affect the country's development.

A Nigerian man has been arrested in Italy after allegedly attacking and wounded two police officers at a railway station in Potenza-Salerno region. According to media reports, the man attacked the officers after he was told to get off the train because he had no ticket.

For this reason, the man tried to resist the officials and in the process, injured two of them.

The two policemen were said to have suffered serious injuries and were reportedly hospitalised for five days. They were treated at the "San Carlo" hospital in Potenza .

It was also revealed that the unnamed Nigerian had been released a day before for incident, after punching a policeman at the railway station in Paola (Cosenza) and was detained and charged at the Judicial Police at the Carmine Police Station in Mineo.

The suspect is currently locked up at the "Santoro" district of Potenza and will be charged to court again.

Iridescent, a nonprofit empowering underrepresented young people globally to become innovators and leaders, announced that two teams of girls - one from India and Nigeria - won top honors at its 2018 Technovation World Pitch Summit, the world's largest tech entrepreneurship program for girls ages 10-18.

The two teams were named winners in the senior and junior divisions, respectively, during the "Global Innovation Celebration" held in the San Jose Theatre Aug. 9.

The celebration was the final event in the week-long World Pitch Summit Aug. 6-10. Finalists and visiting teams traveled from around the world for networking, field trips to tech companies, and career-building workshops.

Senior Division Team: Cantavits App name: Eedo Delhi, India

Senior division winners, Team Cantavits, hope to track and dispose of electronic waste in an eco-friendly manner through its app, Eedo. The app provides an end-to-end connection between e-waste producers and authorized recyclers.

Junior Division Team: Save-A-Soul App name: FD-Detector Onitsha, AN, Nigeria

Junior division winners, Team Save-A-Soul, hopes to help consumers identify and avoid the intake of fake drugs in Nigeria using its app, FD-Detector (Fake Drug Detector). According to Team Save-A-Soul, Nigeria has one of the largest markets for fake drugs. The girls plan to partner with the agency responsible for drug regulation in Nigeria, the National Agency for Food & Drug Administration and Control.

The Anambra girls who have now become Africa's Golden Girls is made up of five brilliant girls which are ;

The Technovation Challenge tasks girls ages 10-18, working in teams of 1-5, with creating a mobile app addressing a problem in their own community. The 2018 World Pitch Summit is the final event following more than seven months of hard work, innovation, and problem solving by more than 19,000 girls in 115 countries supported by over 5,000 mentors.

Finalists were pitching for seed funding and scholarships. More than $50,000 USD was awarded across the teams.

The corpses of the corpers that drowned in a river southeast of Taraba State, were today transported back to their various states and families. Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), gathered in a sorrowful state to pay their last respects to their colleagues who died few days ago in the tragic incident.

The corps members were on a swimming expedition in River Mayo-Selbe, a major tributary of the Benue River, when a water surge from a nearby mountain collapsed on them and swept nine of them into the massive river.

The incident occurred in Gashaka Local Government Area, where all the corps members affected were posted to serve.

May their souls rest in peace.

A former Anambra Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under Mr. Peter Obi, Hon Dubem Obaze and his wife Dr.Pam, were pictured during their recent encounter with Catholic helmsman; Pope Francis in Rome, Italy.

The couple met with the cleric for prayers at the Vatican city along with other Catholic faithfuls.

Three young men, who acted as fronts and agents of distribution to a covert drug peddling syndicate, have been arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command.

The suspects ran into police ambush at Ijebu-Itele axis of the Benin/Shagamu Expressway in the early hours of Wednesday, August 8, 2018.

It was gathered that the interception of the Indian Hemp-laden truck was sequel to an intelligent report received by the Command to the effect that the suspects lived on running illegal errands of transporting and delivery of such hard drugs as Nicotine, Indian Hemp as well as dangerous weapons from Delta State, enroute Ogun, to Lagos State.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who in a press statement made available to this medium, "On the strength of the report, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, directed the Officer-In-Charge Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Abeokuta, SP Uba Adams, to go after the suspects.

"In compliance with the CP’s directive, the operatives of the FSARS embarked on a technical-based investigation and profiling of the suspects, which enabled them to intercept them in a truck with registration number KPP 339 XD. On searching the vehicle, 40 bags of weeds suspected to be marijuana was recovered and the suspects were promptly arrested. The suspects are Frank Osai ‘m’39yrs, Elvis Okuse ‘m’ 25yrs and Kelvin Ogagaoghene ‘m’ 24yrs", the PPRO said.

Crimepuzzle's investigation further revealed that, on the floor of the intercepted Mercedes Benz 81314 truck, were crates of different brands of beer, a ploy to beat the operatives of the actual consignment of bags of Indian Hemp that were carefully and neatly concealed in a specially built compartment on the roof.

But for the diligence of the eagle-eyed ASP Ayodele Gbenga-led FSARS team of operatives, the hard drug was discovered.

Oyeyemi stated that, "On interrogation, the suspects confessed that the weeds were meant to be delivered to a customer, who they simply identified as Emeka in Mile 2 area of Lagos.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police CP Ahmed Iliyasu has ordered a full scale investigation on the activities of the arrested suspects as well as their sponsors.

A ghastly motor accident just happened along the ever-busy Akwanga-Lafia express road in Nasarawa state. It was gathered that a trailer loaded with livestock crashed into a bush, in Wulko Community, Akun Development Area of Nasarawa State - with over 10 cows said to have died in the accident.

Though no human casualties were recorded, many cows perished with many more said to be seriously wounded.

As at the time of filing this report, police officers were on ground to control traffic around the site of the accident.

Motorists and travellers plying the highway have been advised to take caution.

A lady is lucky to be alive following a gas explosion which occurred at her residence yesterday. According to Blessing Nkoyo Emmanuel from Eket, Akwa Ibom but resides in Kano state, she was about to turn off the gas in her home before it exploded and set her on fire. 

She revealed that her clothes and hair were on fire before she narrowly escaped from the kitchen. 

Immediately she escaped from the kitchen, the ceiling and some parts of the house were destroyed as she came out with a little injury from the incident.

The excited lady took to Facebook to thank God for her miraculous survival.

Operatives attached to Imo police command have arrested a notorious criminal suspect identified as Durunzenwata Emeka Reginad of Amaigbo in Nwangele local government area, Imo state.

The 51-year-old unrepentant suspect was was arrested by operatives of F-SARS Imo Command on 04/08/2018 at Akatta Market Square in Oru West L.G.A. 

The suspect is said to be responsible for the robbery, kidnapping and murder of so many victims among whom are Late Chidi Eburuaji ‘m’ who was kidnapped at Owerri Nkworji on 18/07/2018 and subsequently murdered.

Suspect also specializes in waylaying, robbing and diverting petrol tankers and lorries.

During the encounter that led to his arrest, suspect fled on sighting the operatives but was arrested after sustaining gunshot injuries on his legs.

Investigation is in progress.
