The hashtag #TrudeauDictatorship is trending on Twitter as Liberals try, in real time, to force their internet censorship bill through Parliament. On Twitter user put it simply: "#TrudeauDictatorship is real, so I'll be voting Conservative." On Friday, the Liberals began the process of "gagging the filibuster" by shutting down debate on the controversial Bill C-10 bill that would effectively censor large swathes of the internet. The bill is unprecedented in free democracies and would allow the Trudeau Liberals to control what content Canadians see on their social media feeds. The bill purports to be in the best interests of Canadian content creators, however it has been universally panned by free speech advocates including the former head of the CRTC who says it would violate the Charter rights of everyday Canadians. Conservative MP Shannon Stubbs tweeted Friday morning: "As I'm typing this, Liberals are trying to force through Bill C-10 in the HoC. This means internet censorship is coming to Canada without ANY meaningful debate. The Conservatives are doing everything in our power to stop this travesty." It remains to be seen what the Conservatives can do to stop the Liberals at this point as it appears that the NDP and the Bloc will support bill C-10. https://thepostmillennial.com/trudeaudictatorship-trends-on-twitter-as-liberals-try-to-force-censorship-bill-through-parliament |

Alcohol takeaways are to be banned from tomorrow until mid-February in England as Boris Johnson clamps down on socialising under the new lockdown regime. All restaurants, pubs and other hospitality settings must close their doors to customers from tomorrow under the new rules announced by the prime minister in a televised statement from 10 Downing Street. But in a tightening of the restrictions imposed under tier 4 of the PM’s regionalised system, while restaurants will be able to sell food and soft drinks for delivery, click-and-collect and takeaway, venues will no longer be able to serve takeaway or click-and-collect alcohol. It is understood that the ban is driven by concerns that customers buying takeaway alcohol from pub and bar doors would then congregate with friends nearby to drink. All non-essential retail outlets, as well as personal care services such as hairdressers and nail bars, will be closed under the new regime, which is expected to last until at least 15 February. Shops deemed to be essential, such as food stores, pharmacies, builders’ merchants and garden centres, will be allowed to remain open as in previous lockdowns. Shoppers will still be allowed to buy alcohol from supermarkets and other stores to take home to drink. And places of worship will be open for individual prayer and socially-distanced communal worship, but congregants may only attend with people from their own household or support bubble. Socialising will be strictly limited under the new arrangements. People in England will be able to meet outside with just one person from another household or support bubble for exercise. But a government source stressed that this covered activities like walking, running or cycling and should not be taken as an excuse to sit down and have a drink together in the park in the guise of exercise. Although there is no formal limit to the time spent outside, people are urged to restrict it to one exercise session a day and stay local. Small children will be allowed to play together outside and - unlike the lockdown of last spring - playgrounds will remain open. While elite sports such as Premier League football will continue, amateur team sports will not be permitted and indoor and outdoor venues like gyms, tennis courts and golf clubs will be closed. Emma McClarkin, chief executive of the British Beer & Pub Association, said: “A third lockdown is yet another blow to our sector, particularly after it has faced an abysmally quiet Christmas and New Year, which saw many pubs remain closed over what is meant to be their busiest time of the year. “The announcement today adds to the woes of pubs as it shows they are a long way from reopening properly. The road to recovery for the pub sector just got longer. “Given the circumstances, a wave of business failures is imminent unless a greater package of financial support from the Government is given to secure pubs and the brewers that supply them. “That means grants in line with those in the first lockdown and support beyond April when the business rates holiday, lower VAT rates and furlough scheme all end.” https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/alcohol-takeaways-banned-deliveries-england-b1782270.html |

Iran resumes enriching uranium to 20% purity at Fordo facility 04 January 2021 Middle East Share this with Email Share this with Facebook Share this with Twitter Share this with Whatsapp Image copyrightEPAFile photo showing Iranian President Hassan Rouhani (R) inspecting nuclear technology in Tehran (9 April 2019) Image captionIran says it suspended its nuclear commitments in response to reinstated US sanctions Iran has resumed enriching uranium to 20% purity, in its most significant breach yet of its 2015 deal with world powers to end nuclear sanctions. The global nuclear watchdog confirmed the process had begun at the underground Fordo plant on Monday. Enriched uranium can be used to make reactor fuel but also nuclear bombs. Weapons-grade uranium is 90% purity. A US state department spokesperson accused Iran of pursuing a "campaign of nuclear extortion". Video captionWhat is the Iran nuclear deal? Iran, which insists that its nuclear programme is peaceful, has rolled back a number of commitments under the deal. It has said it is retaliating for the US economic sanctions that were reinstated in 2018 by President Donald Trump when he abandoned the accord, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). In a separate development, Iran's Revolutionary Guards said they had seized a South Korean-flagged chemical tanker in the Gulf "due to the repeated infringement of maritime environmental laws". South Korea's foreign ministry demanded its immediate release of the Hankuk Chemi and said a South Korean anti-piracy unit stationed in the Strait of Hormuz had been dispatched to the area. How was the move announced? Iranian government spokesman Ali Rabiei told media the process of enriching uranium to 20% had started at Fordo . President Hassan Rouhani had ordered the move because he was "bound" by a new law requiring the production and storage of at least 120kg (265lbs) of 20%-enriched uranium annually for peaceful purposes, he said. Iran's parliament passed the law following the assassination in late November of the country's top nuclear scientist, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, which Iranian leaders blamed on Israel. Later on Monday, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed Iran's move in a report to member states. "Iran today began feeding uranium already enriched up to 4.1% U-235 into six centrifuge cascades at the Fordo Fuel Enrichment Plant for further enrichment up to 20%," a statement said. How did other countries react? Some experts see the announcement as an attempt to put pressure on Joe Biden, who is due to succeed Mr Trump as president on 20 January. Mr Biden has said he will consider rejoining the nuclear deal so long as Iran returns to full compliance and commits to further negotiations. The state department spokesperson said: "Iran enriching uranium to 20% at Fordow is a clear attempt to increase its campaign of nuclear extortion, an attempt that will continue to fail." EU spokesman Peter Stano said Iran's move constituted "a considerable departure from Iran's nuclear commitments under the JCPOA with serious nuclear non-proliferation implications". Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, one of Iran's main opponents in the Middle East, said the Iranian decision could not be "explained in any way except as continued realisation of its intention to develop a military nuclear programme". "Israel will not allow Iran to manufacture nuclear weapons," he added. Why was a top Iranian scientist assassinated? Iran's enriched uranium stockpile '12 times limit' Why do the limits on Iran's uranium enrichment matter? Image copyrightREUTERSIranian troops hold Mohsen Fakhrizadeh's coffin at a funeral ceremony in Tehran (30 November 2020) Image captionIran's parliament passed a law requiring 20% enrichment after the killing of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh What is enriched uranium? Enriched uranium is produced by feeding uranium hexafluoride gas into centrifuges to separate out the most suitable isotope for nuclear fission, called U-235. Low-enriched uranium, which typically has a 3-5% purity of U-235, can be used to produce fuel for commercial nuclear power plants. Highly enriched uranium has a concentration of 20% or more and is used in research reactors. Graphic showing how a uranium enrichment centrifuge works Presentational white space Under the nuclear deal, Iran was allowed to enrich uranium only up to a 3.67% purity; to stockpile no more than 300kg (660lbs) of the material; to operate no more than 5,060 of its oldest and least efficient centrifuges; and was required to cease enrichment at Fordo altogether. But Iran has taken steps to "reduce" those commitments since Mr Trump reinstated US sanctions to compel it to negotiate a replacement of an agreement he said was "defective at its core". The steps have included building up the stockpile of low-enriched uranium, producing 4.5%-enriched uranium, restarting advanced centrifuges, and resuming enrichment activities at Fordo. Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif stressed on Monday that the measures were "fully reversible upon full compliance by all" parties. Why is 20% purity significant? Experts at the Arms Control Association said last month that 120kg of uranium enriched to 20% was about half the amount of uranium that, when enriched to weapons-grade (90% or more), was necessary for one bomb . They also warned that the production of highly enriched uranium would pose a more serious near-term proliferation risk. That is because going from uranium's natural state of 0.7% concentration of U-235 to 20% takes about 90% of the total effort required to get to weapons-grade. Before the nuclear deal, Iran had a sufficient amount of 20%-enriched uranium and number of centrifuges that its "break-out time" was estimated to be about two to three months. The agreement slowed the "break-out time" to at least a year. Copyright © 2021 BBC. The BBC is not responsible for the content of external sites. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-55530366 |

A Tanzanian subsistence miner has hit the jackpot after the government handed him a cheque for 7.74bn Tanzanian shillings ($3.35m) for the two largest tanzanite gemstones ever found. The two dark violet-blue gemstones, each about the dimensions of a forearm, were discovered by Saniniu Laizer in one of the tanzanite mines in the north of the country which are surrounded by a wall to control cross-border smuggling of the gemstones. “There will be a big party tomorrow,” the small-scale miner from Simanjiro district in Manyara, told the BBC. “I want to build a shopping mall and a school. I want to build this school near my home. There are many poor people around here who can’t afford to take their children to school.” The two tanzanite gemstones are the largest ever found, according to the mines ministry . Albinism consists of a group of inherited abnormalities of melanin synthesis. Melanin is a pigment in the skin, eyes, and hair that protects us by absorbing ultraviolet rays from the sun to prevent skin damage. With exposure to the sun, the skin tans because melanin pigments increase in our skin. In albinism, however, there is an inborn (or congenital) reduction or absence of melanin in the skin. In addition to the skin, melanin is important to other areas of the body, such as the eyes and brain. It is a lifelong condition and it occurs in other animals. What causes albinism? Albinism results from defective production of melanin from its constituent building block units. An error in a complex pathway leads to the low production of melanin or in some cases, no production at all. Albinism is hereditary and the most common forms are autosomal recessive, which means that the genes responsible for its occurrence need to be present in both parents (carriers) who are typically not albinos themselves. What are the types of albinism? There are different ways of classifying the different subtypes of albinism, some of which are based on one’s genetic code or DNA and the error leading to the reduction or absence of melanin. Broadly, albinism can: -Affect the eyes only, called Ocular albinism (OA). The skin and hair may be minimally lighter than the other members of the family but it is restricted to the eyes which are often bluish in colouration. -Affect the eyes and skin, called Oculocutaneous albinism (OCA). Albinism may also affect the skin and other organ systems; including the brain and the nerves of the spinal cord. Oculocutaneous albinism (OCA) is the most common form of albinism. Who is affected? Albinism affects around 1 in 20000 people across the globe with some areas having as many as 1 in 2000 people with albinism. It occurs in all races, occurs equally in men and women, and is present all over the world. It is typically discovered at infancy. What are the features seen in albinism? Patients with more severe forms of albinism with obvious skin manifestations are easier for a physician to diagnose compared with those with more subtle forms or those with ocular albinism. The skin in albinos is often whitish, snow-white or cream-colored. The hairs are often brown, yellowish or white and in some rare cases, red or platinum coloured. Skin symptoms include skin photosensitivity. Due to the reduced availability of melanin pigments in the eyes, there are profound changes in the development of the optic system which leads to reduced visual acuity (vision problems), hypersensitivity to light, retinal pigment changes (that appears as red eyes in some people) and an involuntary rapid movement of the eyeballs (called nystagmus). These changes are seen in virtually all cases of albinism. What are the health interventions done for albinos? Albinism is not associated with mortality and life expectancy is the same as for the general population. It also cannot be “cured”. The effects of the reduced melanin production in the eyes, skin and hair does not cause general ill-health and as such, life is essentially normal for albinos. However, the quality of life may be hampered by the severity of affectation of vision, skin photosensitivity, and increased risk of skin cancer. Albinism also has social ramifications because patients may feel alienated as a result of the difference in appearance from their families, peers, and other members of their ethnic group. This can lead to questions about paternity, especially in colored communities. In some parts of the world, albinos are marginalized, ostracized and even victims of violent hate crimes. Healthcare support is rendered via: Low-vision aids: This is often via glasses or bifocal, based on the age of the patient and the degree of visual impairment (nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism). Tinted glasses may be used to reduce photophobia. A cap or a visor may also help when going outdoors. For the treatment of lazy or crossed eyes (or strabismus), it is preferred to start treatment at infancy with eye patches and/or glasses for correction. Regular ophthalmology review is also necessary to prevent ocular complications. Patients will also benefit from the use of sunscreen when going outdoors as it reduces the exposure of the skin to the ultraviolet rays of the sun. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight leads to the development of skin cancers. https://www.nigerialog.com/health/what-you-need-to-know-about-albinism/new/ I this is a very enlightening post, there are lot of myths concerning albino, is it true dey can't eat salt? I've always been curious about this |
