The Federal Government has approved the release of the 2014 admission list into Federal Unity Colleges across the country.

The Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike, who gave the approval on Wednesday in Abuja, directed all prospective candidates to check their admission status online at [url]fmeinterviewtest.com[/url]
The government had earlier in the year re-introduced aptitude test in the admission of Federal Unity Colleges to ensure that only qualified candidates would be admitted into the schools.

Wike stated that merit would henceforth play a major requirement in the admission of students into the 104 Federal Unity Colleges.

According to him, merit has been placed above other considerations, such as catchment area, environmental factors and state quota, because of the need to inculcate the right values in the future generations.

He said, “This successful conduct of the aptitude test is a step towards enthroning merit in our Federal Unity Colleges. We have re-positioned these schools in terms of facilities and quality of teachers, hence subscription for placements have increased tremendously.”

Wike said that from reports he received from independent monitors across the country, the aptitude tests were peaceful on account of measures put in place by the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Examination Council.

A new launch date of 9th September has been outed by recode.net which says Apple has scheduled a big media event for that day. “As with September events past, the focal point of this one is to be Apple’s next-generation iPhones” says the site which founded by former Wall Street Journalists Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher. This is despite a report by Reuters that says that this date could be delayed due to a supply chain problem. The site reports that suppliers are struggling to get enough iPhone 6 screens ready.

“Two supply chain sources said display panel production suffered a setback after the backlight that helps illuminate the screen had to be revised, putting screen assembly on hold for part of June and July. One said Apple, aiming for the thinnest phone possible, initially wanted to cut back to a single layer of backlight film, instead of the standard two layers, for the 4.7-inch screen, which went into mass production ahead of the 5.5-inch version,” said Reuters.

Camera

It’s highly likely that the iPhone 6 will have a better camera than the iPhone 5s. The iPhone 5s has an 8-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 aperture, but rumour has it Apple is planning on boosting that to a 10-megapizel camera with an f/.8 aperture and an improve filter, according to Chinese website IT168.

Design
In addition to the bigger screen, we expect that the iPhone 6 will have a bit of a new design. The latest rumours and leaked images suggest that the iPhone 6 will have little or no bezels, and many suggest that the iPhone 6 will have a thinner, lighter chassis.

Credible Sources have it that the iPhone 6 will have an ‘edge-to-edge’ display and a design which looks like the iPad mini. It sounds pretty similar to the above render and means the end of the flat sides which have been around since the iPhone 4. The thinner, lighter chassis could be made possible with the use of LiquidMetal, a material that Apple has exclusive rights to. Screen size

One of the most talked about elements of the iPhone 6 is its screen. Pretty much every rumour report, expert and source out there suggests that the iPhone 6 will be bigger than the iPhone 5s, and there are a surprisingly large number of reports that say we’ll get two new iPhones this year, with one of those iPhones falling into the ‘Phablet’ category.

Among those set on the idea that Apple is working on a bigger iPhone is KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a very impressive track record when it comes to predicting Apple launches. He expects two new iPhones to arrive this autumn, one with a 4.7in display and the other with a 5.5in display.

That same rumour has been reiterated by numerous others who agree that we should expect a 4.7in and 5.5in iPhone, including UBS analyst Steve Milunovich, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster and several other analysts, as well as Reuters and The Wall Street Journal, so we’re beginning to believe it might be true.

Until now Apple has set the top limit of its smartphone storage at 64GB, which is pretty good internal storage for a smartphone. However, if you are using your iPhone as your main camera and primary source for music consumption, then this will soon fill up – if Apple choses not to equip the iPhone with expandable storage then 128GB would be a welcomed addition to its lineup.

The company has already expanded the storage of the iPad to offer a 128GB option, so it’s certainly possible that Apple will choose to do the same with the iPhone this year.

According to Chinese Apple blog Feng.com, Apple will be releasing a 128GB 5.5in iPhone 6, but the rumoured 4.7in option will not have the larger capacity.

The Tencent site which offered the 19 September launch date said that Apple will launch the 4.7in iPhone 6 in 32- and 64GB variants.

Automatic unlocking

Despite not being a confirmed feature of iOS 8, the iPhone 6 is rumoured to come with an automatic unlocking feature similar to the one just announced for Google’s Android L. No more need for Touch ID or a passcode – unless you’re in a less secure environment.

Apple’s patent for the feature, called ‘location –sensitive security’, says: “The security level and/or other device behaviour, configurations, or settings on a mobile device can be modified based on the location of the mobile device.”

“In one example, a passcode is not required when the mobile device detects a current location corresponding to the user’s home. In another example, a simple passcode is used when the mobile device detects a location corresponding to the user’s office desk, but a longer or more complex alphanumeric passcode is used at other locations within the office, such as the cafeteria or conference rooms.” it adds.

Heart rate & Lightning EarPods


Instead of sticking a heart rate monitor on the back of the phone like the Samsung Galaxy S5, Apple is rumoured to be integrating the technology into its EarPod headphone. According to secret.ly, they will also measure blood pressure and iBeacons to avoid losing them.

“Apple’s new EarPods will have sensors in them, for heart rate & blood pressure. Also iBeacons so they don’t get lost. They will require the lightning port, it’s why the audio jack was moved to the bottom,” says the site.

Expandable storage

This is a contentious issue, because Apple have both a very successful pricing structure based on storage options and also an ever developing iCloud. But expandable storage is still the most popular way and unrestricting way that the majority of people would chose to expand the storage capabilities of their smartphones. An iSD card and slot would be a great way for Apple to tackle this current flaw of the iPhone. It almost definitely won’t happen though.

Wireless Charging

This is almost too Apple, it’s almost shocking it hasn’t been included yet. Apple’s big rival, Samsung, already has the feature and other smartphones are sure to catch up soon also. Will Apple introduce wireless charging with the iPhone 6? Maybe, but there’s no real evidence to back this up yet.

Flexible screen

A flexible screen, that’s crazy talk! Apparently not. Those chaps over at Samsung are already making noises suggesting that there will be a smartphone with a flexible smartphone coming out in 2014. If it’s a hit, then it won’t be long till Apple joins the party. God knows enough people have smashed their existing iPhone screens.

Price
We won’t know the price of the iPhone 6 until Apple announces it, but it’s thought that the firm will keep the same pricing system as the iPhone 5s for the next generation of iPhone. That means the iPhone 6 price will start at £549.

Please don’t be fooled by this scam – it’s a phishing site so entering your details will compromise your confidential details stored within your Apple account.

One thing we’re certainly not short of is iPhone 6 leaked images. The Federal Government has postponed the resumption of primary and secondary schools across the country to October 22nd, it has been announced. Primary and Secondary schools were supposed to resume on September 22nd but about two weeks, Federal Goverment postponed it indefinitely to prevent an outbreak of the Ebola Viral Disease. They announced today that schools can resume October 15th.

The Federal Government also stopped all summer schools.

They are the first reported Ebola cases outside West Africa since the outbreak there began, although it is not clear if they are directly linked to that outbreak.

So far 1,427 people have died from the virus.

The speed and extent of the outbreak has been “unprecedented”, the World Health Organization (WHO) says.

An estimated 2,615 people in West Africa have been infected with Ebola since March.

There is nothing more wonderful than being able to spend the rest of your life with the person who you find special. That said, marriage is no longer the sole aim and purpose in a girl’s life. Of late, things like a higher education, a stable career, financial independence, a healthy social life, etc., are also on the list of priorities for a woman. Although this change has made women more independent and stronger emotionally, it is still not a change that is readily accepted in a traditional household, especially if the match has been arranged by families. We give you some inevitable problems that a new bride can face today.

Universally, all marriages have their spells of good and bad and more often than not, share the same kinks in the chain. Be it pesky in-laws or intolerable cleanliness issues, living with someone day in and day out can have its moments of insanity. The trick is to not let them get the better of the relationship.

Parent trap
We tend to get immune to our family’s levels of crazy and find it strange when someone points them out to us. Dealing with in-laws is tricky territory for both as one is expected to be respectful while disagreeing on multiple counts. It’s suggested that couples set a few boundaries to avoid messy confrontations. It is also important to support your partner and give your relationship priority over how your parents feel.

Postponing it can drain the relationship.” Shah adds, “It’ll never seem like the right time, but the younger you are when you have kids, the more energy you’ll have to deal with the disruptions they’ll throw your way.’ Infertility takes on a different level of emotional toll. “Not being able to conceive is often taken as a failure of the union. Discuss other options before you start trying to conceive and you’ll be able to handle disappointment better,” says Raisingh. “The worst thing to do is to blame yourself or your partner, especially since this isn’t something you can change. Weigh your options, but most importantly, shield each other from negativity.”

Money matters
Financial baggage can also break a marriage. It’s best to be transparent about financial commitments. According to Shah, most partners are surprised by each others spending habits and debt. Be it home loans or credit card bills, never hide the status of your finances and make it a point to take a joint decision on big expenses. “Things tend to get a little complicated as both partners work and get used to a certain financial independence before marriage. To suddenly become answerable to someone else takes a little adjusting to,” he says.

Child rearing
Whether you want to be a Tiger mom or a Lily dad, agree on parenting styles. Many parents end up adapting disciplinary techniques similar to what they grew up with. If your parents were strict, chances are you’ll be stern as well. If your partner’s parents were permissive, (s)he’ll be laid back, making you the ‘bad guy’. Talk about disciplining techniques and the idea is to be consistent, be it reward or punishment. Children are smart enough to see through empty threats. As long as you dictate house rules together, kids won’t play one parent against the other.

Bedroom games
A chunk of marital problems arise in the bedroom. After a while, infrequency of sex becomes a major factor for friction. Day-to-day monotony takes a toll on energy levels as well as physical intimacy. According to Shah, “Holding out on each other as punishment is also common and is the worst way to make your point. Interestingly, when it’s physical intimacy it lacks, that is exactly what can rejuvenate a relationship.”

Body Maintenance and beauty
Your wife may not have maintained a svelte figure or your husband might have a paunch and thinning hair, but that’s hardly reason to bring it to their notice. Instead of making your partner conscious, Shah recommends suggesting activities that you can do together such as hiking or adopting a healthy diet together. “Make it about yourself. Say you need to get fitter and need company,” he says.

Don’t underestimate the effect of monotony on the relationship. “With both partners working, household chores can no longer be ‘his’ and ‘hers’. Partners should evenly distribute them to ease the pressure. Small gestures of cleaning up and paying bills can help your partner feel cared for and loved, which helps reduce resentments.

Fear of the Unknown

The expectations your better half and your in-laws might have from you can be overwhelming immediately after getting married. If you panic or are stressed, it can even create havoc in your married life. Apart from the routine and common expectations, there can be some that can be very specific to every house. World football governing body FIFA might eventually place Nigeria on a bigger ban today if the sacked executive members of the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) are not brought back.

Last week FIFA placed Nigeria on an indefinite suspension,giving the country a seven-day grace to bring back the executives of the NFF led by Aminu Maigari to their positions.

A court ruling in Jos sacked Maigari and his executives,and mandated the sports minister Tamuno Danagogo to appoint a sole administration for the NFF.

But FIFA sensing a government interference warned Nigeria,giving the country a week’s grace to ratify the situation.

A government delegation was in Brazil last week to meet with FIFA,insisting that the government did not meddle in the ouster of the sacked the NFF executives.

“There was no court sitting on the original date of hearing [11 July] which has stalled efforts. But the minister is hoping it will be resolved before the deadline.”

“The minister is waiting for feedback from the delegation to Brazil. He needs that before approaching the president who is also waiting for a brief and update,” he added.

It is left to be seen what will become of FIFA’s decision on Tuesday,whether there could be an extension to allow the court to sit.

The literary icon & Nobel lauraete celebrated his 80th birthday yesterday 13th of july 2014. Professor Akinwande Oluwole (Wole Soyinka), Pronounced “Shoyinka” was born 13th July 1934.

Here is a collection of 10 surprising facts about Him:

1) Wole Soyinka was born on 13 July 1934 at Abeokuta, near Ibadan in western Nigeria. The 80-year-old author’s given name at birth was Akinwande Oluwole Soyinka.

2) Mr. Soyinka is the cousin of the late revolutionary African musician Fela Kuti, about whom a vibrant and critically acclaimed show (Fela!) opened on Broadway early 2010. The show was produced by moguls Jay Z and Will Smith.

3) In 1965, Soyinka seized the Western Nigeria Broadcasting Service studio and made a national broadcast demanding the cancellation of the rigged Western Nigeria Regional Elections. He was arrested and arraigned but later freed. Two years later, during the Nigerian Civil War, he was again arrested and placed in solitary confinement for his attempts at brokering a peace between warring factions. He was released almost two years later after international attention was drawn to his imprisonment.

4)While behind bars Soyinka wrote poetry on tissue paper, which was published in a collection titled Poems from Prison. His experiences in prison are recounted in his 1972 book The Man Died: Prison Notes of Wole Soyinka.

5) Soyinka’s relentless activism often exposed him to great personal risk, most notable during the government of General Sani Abacha (1993–1998), which pronounced a death sentence on him ‘in absentia.’ However, during Abacha’s regime, Soyinka escaped from Nigeria via the ‘Nadeco Route’ on motorcycle.

6) In October 1994, he was designated United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Goodwill Ambassador for the promotion of African culture, human rights, freedom of expression, media and communication.

7) Mr. Soyinka became the first African laureate in 1986 when he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature, as one “who in a wide cultural perspective, and with poetic overtones, fashions the drama of existence.” His Nobel acceptance speech was devoted to South African freedom-fighter Nelson Mandela, and was declared a humane and characteristically outspoken criticism of apartheid and the politics of racial segregation in South Africa at the time.

The Nobel Prize was not the only honour bestowed on Soyinka in 1986. He received another major award – the Agip Prize for Literature – that same year.

9)The laureate has also received several honorary degrees, from such prestigious universities as Harvard (1993), Princeton (2005) and the Franklin Humanities Institute of Duke University, where he was appointed Distinguished Scholar in Residence in 2008.

Muazu Ibrahim Aliyu, the son of Kebbi State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Aliyu, yesterday died during a ghastly auto crash along Jega / Basaura Road.

Another occupant of the car, Mubarak Aliyu (21) who is also the son of a prominent politician in the State, Alh. Ali Bagudo (Jarman Bargu Babba), also died during the auto crash.

The Press Officer to the Deputy Governor, Mallam Nura Bena, disclosed the development to LEADERSHIP yesterday in Birnin Kebbi.

He added that the late Muazu (21) was a student in the Department of Statistics, Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero while Mubarak Ali Bagudo was a student of Alhikma University, Ilorin, Kwara State.

Bena said, ‘’ The third occupant of the vehicle Saifullah Aliyu (23) of the same Al-hikma University however survived the accident but sustained injuries and was hospitalised at the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kebbi’’.

But the deceased have since been buried according to Islamic rites in Birnin Kebbi. Kebbi State Governor Saidu Dakingari, his cabinet, politicians and prominent people in the state attended the funeral prayers.

Many sympathisers also visited the homes of the Deputy Governor and Bagudo to condole with them over the death of their children.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali, has hinted that the university will be able to admit only 9,000 out of over 100,000 admission seekers that applied to study in the university in the ongoing 2014/2015 admission exercise.

Ambali dropped the hint in Ilorin yesterday during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC), to establish a sugarcane bio-factory in the University.

He said the University is rapidly expanding to be able to accommodate more students in the future.
Ambali added,”the University of Ilorin has been able to carve a niche for itself through the commitment of its staff members that had been assisting the institution to provide a qualitative academic environment for its students.

Ambali also assured the NSDC Executive Secretary, Dr. Latif Busari, that the University has everything it takes to make the project a huge success.

He noted that the time had come to take advantage of technology in ensuring food security in the country.
Speaking earlier at the MoU signing ceremony in the university, the NSDC Executive Secretary explained that when completed, the bio-factory would provide high-yielding, disease-resistant sugarcane seedlings for the use of sugarcane factory estates and out-grower farmers across the country.

Busari said the seedlings would be mass produced through the tissue culture in-vitro multiplication process. The Executive Secretary further stated that the seedlings production would be need-driven, thereby eliminating wastage. In addition, he said the council will leverage on the competence of the University of Ilorin to ensure the success of the project.

Busari also disclosed that the NSDC would be seeking greater collaboration with the University of Ilorin because of its track record of academic excellence, research output and stable academic calendar.

The National Sugar Development Council (NSDC) was established by Decree 88 of 1993 to, among other things, promote the development of the sugar sub-sector through the provision of guidance on the development of sugar estates and the organisation of sugarcane out-growers schemes to enhance local production of sugar with a view to ensuring that Nigeria achieves at least 70 percent self-sufficiency in sugar requirements as soon as possible.

The head of service, Bukar Aji and the Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Adoke, have been dragged before the National Industrial Court, NIC, over the dichotomy existing between Higher National Diploma, HND, holders and university graduates.

The plaintiffs, civil servants under the auspices of the Nigerian Association of Technologists in Engineering, are seeking a total abolition of the HND and university degree dichotomy.

The suit was filed by Garba Bello, Adelaja Samuel, Jubril Kadiri, Christian Owolabi, Umechukwu Chuba and Fatima Mohammed on behalf of the association.

They are asking for the implementation of the federal government white paper which recommended the consolidation of emoluments of all public service employees in 2006.

Among the plaintiffs are level 14 public servants who say they have been denied further promotion because they were employed with HND qualifications.

The lawyer to the plaintiffs, Nnaemeka Ejiofor, argued that his clients have been victims of discrimination and want the NIC to invoke its powers and declare the policy unconstitutional.

The case, which came up for mention on Friday, has been adjourned till September 18 for hearing.
