I wasnt expecting less. We are in a country run by people without political ideologies. The major parties (PDP and APC) are just there to validate their greed for power and state's resources. How we found ourselves here is beyond the scope of my argument. Can we be free? Yes if the citizens create a sense of belonging for ourselves. They can't rig elections, cause chaos without using us. They can't she their children or close relatives. Finally, if you are a Nigerian youth and you have the opportunity to leave and get to a better place where your existence and intellectual prowess can be better valued, take the opportunity and leave. |

Press Release U.S. based non-profit to groom over 100 aspiring political, media, judicial, religious and business leaders in Nigeria Maryland, U.S.A The Center for Social Awareness, Advocacy and Ethics, Inc. (CSAAE), a youth focused non-profit based in the United States has announced that the Centre will train over 100 aspiring political, media, judicial, religious and business leaders in its Emerging African Leaders Program over the course of three years. A memo released by the president and founder of the Center, Reverend Father Godswill Agbagwa, a Nigerian Catholic priest and University professor resident in the United States said that the aim of the program is to raise a new generation of Nigerian leaders imbued with strong morals and skill set necessary to navigate Nigeria out of poverty and underdevelopment. According to Dr. Agbagwa, who also represents African Civil Societies at the World Bank and IMF Civil Society Policy Forum Working Group said that years of military dictatorship, corruption, political instability and poor governance have meant insufficient investments in the country’s infrastructure and basic services. After five decades of independence, and despite its oil and other natural resources, 67% of Nigerians are living below poverty line in 2018. In order for Nigeria to make progress and ensure that its people enjoy a better quality of life, the country needs a new generation of leaders who can leave a better legacy. With youth under the age of 25 comprising 62 percent of the population, much of the hope for Nigeria’s future lies in its young people. They are the agents of change and critical actors in building a better Nigeria. Ensuring young people develop the capacities, competencies and character necessary to navigate the country out of poverty and under-development is essential to reorienting the country’s values. Launched in 2013, CSAAE is dedicated to harnessing the potential of young people and providing the kinds of tools and training that allow them to embrace their role as stakeholders in a better Nigeria. The Centre has three programs including the Emerging African Leaders Program (ELP), Career Building and Entrepreneurship Program (CBEP), Students Ethics and Anti-Corruption Network (SEACON) and Network of Effective African Leaders (NEAL), all designed to channel young people into activities that develop leaders of character; cultivate a spirit of entrepreneurship; promote good governance, transparency and accountability in government; and encourage mentorship among future leaders. First and second year students in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions, ages 16 – 21, are encouraged to apply to the Emerging African Leaders Program which focuses on raising critical actors in nation building (including aspiring political, judicial, media, religious and business leaders) committed to the common good of Nigerians. Successful applicants will kick-off the 3-year free training with an induction ceremony at the Centre’s Foundation Conference and Impact dinner coming up on November 22, 2018, at Top Rank Hotel, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, where leading African leaders will be addressing the future leaders. Interested youths are encouraged to apply at http://csaaeinc.org/elp/on or before September 30th, 2018.

Netflix is finally putting its $8 billion original production budget to work in Nigeria’s Nollywood movie industry. The global streaming giant purchased worldwide rights to Lionheart, it’s first original film from Nigeria. The comedy, stars Nollywood bigwigs including Genevieve Nnaji, Nkem Owoh, Pete Edochie, and Onyeka Onwenu. Nnaji who has had some success starring in Hollywood productions, doubles as director on Lionheart. <img src="https://kaybaba.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/images-7.jpeg" alt="" width="512" height="288" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1942" /> Netflix has previously licensed Nollywood flicks including romantic comedy The Wedding Party as well as crime thriller October 1 but only after both had been screened in local cinemas. Netflix’s first original film from Nollywood is an added bow as the industry evolves. Initially known for its model of low-budget high-volume productions, Nollywood became the world’s second biggest movie industry by volume. But in recent years, Nollywood has began placing more emphasis on quality over quantity. Those efforts have been rewarded with local and international box office success. But as it continues to grapple with the lack of a vast enough distribution network locally—there aren’t enough cinemas and piracy remains a problem—global streaming revenues are a boon for Nollywood. This is in addition to significant investment from the South Africa-owned Africa Magic television channel which has backed Nollywood productions with millions of dollars. Netflix can also take a cue from, iROKOtv, also dubbed “the Netflix of Africa.” The success of iROKOtv, the first major streaming service to offer Nollywood content, offers a measure of the market and appeal that Nollywood movies hold. Iroko has also had success translating its long-term Nollywood relationship into international broadcasting channels on South Africa’s DStv, UK’s Sky and investment from France’s Canal Plus. The first hint Netflix would have more active interest in original African content came in May when it advertised for a director of content acquisition for the Middle East, Turkey and Africa. Back in October 2016—nine months after launching in Africa—it also deployed a dedicated server in Nigeria to ease the difficulties of content delivery for its local users. But as it steps up in Africa, Netflix is facing increased competition. Multichoice, Africa’s largest pay TV player, in response to its dipping subscription numbers, is already pushing to have the Netflix regulated. https://kaybaba.com.ng/genevieve-nnajis-lion-heart-movie-becomes-the-first-ever-nollywood-original-movie-bought-by-netflix/

Mr. Abdullahi Danbaba, the Special Assistant on Non-Governmental Affairs to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State, has resigned his appointment to enable him stay in the All Progressives Congress. Danbaba announced his resignation in a letter obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria in Ilorin on Sunday, which was addressed to Governor Ahmed through the Secretary to the State Government. According to him, the decision to resign the appointment is due to extensive and heart-to-heart consultation with the people of his constituency, coupled with the issue created by the recent political re-alignment in the state and the country at large. He, however, expressed gratitude to the governor and President of the Senate Bukola Saraki for the opportunity offered him to serve the people of Kwara. NAN reports that Danbaba’s resignation has brought the number of aides that had disengaged from the service of the state government to two. He hailed from Kaiama Local Government area in the North Senatorial District of Kwara state. |

On Thursday, Facebook FB-18.96% has lost about $120 billion in market capitalization, after its earnings report after the market close on Wednesday missed expectations on revenue and showed slowing user growth. Weak guidance also rattled investors. The social-media behemoth’s stock lost roughly one-fifth of its value in the extended session Wednesday. The stock dropped about 7% immediately after the earnings report was released, then plummeted to a loss of more than 19% as a conference call with analysts progressed. Close to 34 million shares changed hands in Wednesday’s extended session, well above the average volume of 17 million shares for a regular trading session over the past month. Founder Mark Zuckerberg, who has a 13 percent stake in Facebook, saw his fortune dropped by more than $US12 billion in less than 24 hours, to around $74 billion. The plunge came one day after the company missed revenue forecasts for the second quarter and warned that growth would be far weaker than previously estimated. Chief financial officer David Wehner warned earlier in an earnings call with analysts that revenue growth had already “decelerated” in the second quarter and would drop “by high single digit percentages” in coming quarters. At one point during the call, Facebook shares were trading down as much as 24 per cent, an unprecedented drop for a large firm. “The guidance, it’s nightmare guidance,” GBH Insights head of technology research Daniel Ives said. “If you look at their forecast for the second half of the year in terms of user growth, and the expense profile, it refuels the fundamental worries about Facebook post-Cambridge Analytica.” https://kaybaba.com.ng/facebook-loses-120-billion-in-value-after-taking-record-hit-at-the-stock-market/

Question: I’m preparing my job documents for a job placement and looking for ways to economize. Can I just write a really short cover letter since all the information I would put in a letter is already on my CV? The cover letter feels redundant. Answer: NO. And the reason for that is — they are two different documents. They have different functions and are designed to help the search committee ascertain distinctly different things. It is a good practice to go over the basics of both documents as a job seeker. The CV. It’s a chronology of your accomplishments. As a genre, it has its own conventions and styling, where form follows function. The CV is a comprehensive record of the following: PERSONAL DETAILS: Name, address, telephone, DOB, e-mail. Make sure name is big and bold and stands out from page. EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS: State years of study and qualifications gained (most recent first) eg: 2012-2016: University of Lagos. BSc(Hons) Physiology Don’t get carried away writing exam results. Just state what exams you did, especially when talking about school. State school and ‘Leaving Cert’ / A-level, no need to list every subject and grade. Don’t go back any further in time than secondary school, no need to list primary school (This is debatable though, some professionals in the HR field seems not to agree with this). EMPLOYMENT HISTORY: State dates and relevant places on employment. No room on CV for things like bar work when applying for a physiology job. State things like health care assistant, nursing home work and other relevant stuffs. STATE YOUR EXPERIENCE Here you talk briefly about your work experience and your pace of work. You may use a table format to save space while allowing for adequate delivery of information. Remember CV should only be approx 3 page MAX so you don’t want to use up too much space, important to keep brief. CERTIFICATION: Any classes or workshops you have gained a certificate for example; 2011: Neurology Workshop with Grainne McKeown Sports Traumatology including CPR/AED with Santry Sports Clinic Again state in chronological order: most recent first. Sports Coaching course. · ACHIEVEMENTS: Scholarships Academic awards Student union or leadership roles etc. (Be careful here, Student unionism is fast losing its importance especially in Nigeria. This can be turn off for many companies. Nowadays, they are careful not to bring unionist and students activists into their companies for obvious reasons. Also, some believe there is widespread corruption in the students Union sectors that ends up producing people of questionable integrity) Sporting achievements eg cups won, international/ provincial / county honours Music grades · HOBBIES REFERENCES The people in your corner. The final page of your CV should list the names and contact information of your references. A quick scan, at this stage before the letters are requested, it will give an idea to the the HR committee who the people writing your letters. Ensure you include top officials in your previous place of works or perhaps your senior lecturers whom you have had contact with if you are a young school leaver. Remember, the HR may make a case against you when they discover the people in your previous place of work are mysteriously refusing to be your recommenders. Is one of your references a well-known scholar from another campus who is willing to vouch for your brilliance? That scores you points, but it is not something you can mention in your cover letter without sounding like you are name-dropping. On a CV, however, the appearance of the scholar’s name speaks for itself. Your candidacy gets a boost without losing any points for sounding self-aggrandizing. The cover letter. The letter you include with each job packet has a mission distinct from the vitae. Whereas the CV is a document that informs, the cover letter is a document that elucidates and persuades. In the letter you have to be able to explain the following: The substance of your work. The likely contributions to the firm or company. The view of your work e.g your work ethics and relationship with others. How you “fit” the place. Rather than leaving the search committee to read between the lines of your CV — trying to establish possible collaborations or ways in which you would augment their course offerings — you can make those connections for them in the letter, and frame your candidacy as an asset. A CV cannot show that you did homework on their department, but a cover letter can. A CV cannot say, “I can envision collaborating with X professors in your department on Y project, as their new research project intersects with something I have already been exploring in my last three articles.” But your letter can — and should. In other words, if you don’t understand that a CV and a cover letter are not just redundant vehicles for the same information but are documents that exemplify fundamentally different genres, you are going to shortchange yourself and your application. https://kaybaba.com.ng/your-cv-should-inform-your-cover-letter-should-persuade-here-is-the-reason/
Based on the autopsy, the bullet was not supposed to kill her. In fact, all her organs were intact. Even her lung that was brushed by the bullet was not shattered. It was the blood that was clotting from the bullet injury that killed her. The pipes that they inserted into her at the hospital broke her rib as well. They brought her in by 3am and she died at 6am. So what did they do between that time frame?" she said. The death of this innocent lady is so sad and painful. May God console them. They should let the dead Rest in Perfect peace.
That's the problem. Allowing the dead to rest. Her death would be worthless if the mistakes made by people who are complicit in her death are not persecuted. The same thing will happen to others and we will still be uttering the same jargons. Let's leave religion or emotions out of this and let the law take its course. |

You made valid points. |
Only few of the EOs have made any reasonable impact. |
Your analysis are on point. But how many Nigerian blogs can boast of 100k visitors per day? The problem is blogs are becoming overbuilt in Nigeria. Every second, at least 2 blogs or website are being launched. What is troubling about this is the fact that most of the blogs are not rich with contents. Its just the normal entertainment/gossip/news copy and paste blogs that is common in the country. Most of the bloggers are just struggling to breath or survive. And competition from social media giants such as Facebook and Instagram that offers a more transparent and affordable advertising is shutting the business down for Naija bloggers. I recently learned about a platform that allows bloggers to earn by allowing them post sponsored ads on their blogs. Digprom.com may be the a succor for many of them. |

Nicki Minaj was telling a fat fib when she seemingly revealed to a fan she and Eminem were officially dating. Minaj set the internet on fire Friday after responding “yes” to a fan who asked her, “You dating Eminem ” on Instagram. Sources close to Minaj revealed she was only joking … there’s nothing romantic between the two.Nicki’s comment was buried in a thread within a video she posted of herself lip-syncing to her verse on YG’s new song “Big Bank.” The verse does however mention Eminem. A Catholic priest has contracted the Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo amid a continuing outbreak that began in the nation earlier this month. The priest, who has been identified as Fr. Lucien Ambunga, – was reportedly infected in the town of Mbandaka. The clergy was pictured receiving prayers from his Bishop and other priests after being quarantined. Last Thursday, the first case was reported in a city — Mbandaka, a transport hub located on the Congo River. According to a World Health Organization count, 58 cases have been identified since early April. It was not possible to establish on Thursday whether the priest was among them. Meanwhile, UNICEF said Thursday it was committed to helping schools and children in the fight against the spread of the virus. Rotigliano said: I spoke with the schoolchildren, and they know the basic rules including washing their hands regularly, and not shaking hands.” Ebola spreads through contact with bodily fluids and is both highly infectious and extremely lethal. Extremely contagious and highly deadly, Ebola gained major international attention during the 2014-2016 epidemic in West Africa that left more than 11,000 people dead. In the latest outbreak in DRC, the first case of Ebola was reported on May 8 in the rural Equateur province near Bikoro, and later spread to Mbandaka. The World Health Organization has said that the chances of Ebola spreading to other parts of the nation are “very high.” https://kaybaba.com.ng/heart-touching-photo-of-catholic-priest-infected-with-ebola-being-prayed-for-by-his-bishop/

South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that he will be donating half of his salary to charity. Mr Ramaphosa said the gesture was aimed at encouraging the wealthy to dedicate some of their pay to help build the nation. The donation of 1.8m rand ($130,000; £100,000) will be managed by the Nelson Mandela Foundation (NMF). Mr Ramaphosa is one of South Africa’s richest men, with a fortune of around $450m. His critics often accuse him of being out of touch with the poor, and he was criticised for bidding more than $2m for a buffalo and her calf in 2012. Mr Ramaphosa, 65, was a businessman before he became deputy president in 2012. He held a stake in sectors from telecoms and the media to beverages and fast food – he owned the South African franchise of the US chain, McDonalds. Mr Ramaphosa’s decision to take a pay cut has been met with mixed reactions in South Africa, reports the BBC’s Pumza Fihlani from the main city, Johannesburg. Some feel the donation is “peanuts” given his wealth, while others see it as a selfless move aimed at reintroducing a culture of public service in the governing African National Congress (ANC), she adds. Speaking in parliament on Wednesday, Mr Ramaphosa said he had decided to make the donation to the NMF in honour of South Africa’s first democratic president, Nelson Mandela. “This is a private, citizen-driven initiative that will ask all those with the means to contribute a small portion of their salaries to supporting the many small projects that build the nation,” Mr Ramaphosa said. The fund will be launched on 18 July to mark the 100th anniversary of Mr Mandela’s birth. Mr Ramaphosa became president in February after Jacob Zuma was forced to resign amid a welter of corruption allegations. Mineral Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe said in January that Mr Ramaphosa would not be corrupt because he did not need the money. “He is wealthy, he is rich. If he steals, we will ask him: ‘Why do you steal, because you have enough?'” Mr Mantashe said. https://kaybaba.com.ng/south-africas-president-gives-half-his-salary-to-charity/
