Beinmo Jonah, a sibling of the Bayelsa state deputy governor, has reportedly escaped death by the whiskers.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Thursday, January 7, 2016, as thugs suspected to be working for the leading opposition party, the All Progressives Congress, (APC) invaded his residence in Ekeki, Yenagoa local government area of the state, leaving him unconscious.

The suspected hoodlums suspected to be party thugs, as reliably stormed the area, brandishing dangerous weapons, including machetes, cudgels and headed straight for his residence.

The entire area was thrown into panic, as the suspected thugs threatened to shoot, maim and kill anybody that may put up resistance or call security operatives.

According to an eyewitness’s account,“The invaders overpowered his guard, broke the security lock of the gate and headed straight to the living room, where he was with members of his family and attacked him.”

The overpowered and the defenceless Jonah was inflicted with machete cuts all over his body before they finally left.
The operation, which lasted for close to two hours left the entire neighborhood in a state of pandemonium, as they were made to stay indoors.

As at the time of filing this report, the victim whose head was heavily bandaged with machete cuts all over his body is receiving treatment at the government house clinic, Yenagoa.

Also, efforts to get his comment on the incident proved abortive, as he was in a state of unconsciousness, with serious injuries on his head, neck and chest.

The attack is coming ahead of Saturday’s supplementary polls in Southern Ijaw LGA and 101 units across 6 local governments in the state, which is expected to be the deciding factor of who emerges as the governor of the state.

Reacting to the incident, Jonathan Obuebite, the director of publicity, Restoration Campaign Organisation, condemned the attack, describing it as a confirmation of the PDP’s earlier position that APC is not ready for election in the state but war.

“The attack on the immediate younger brother of the Deputy Governor is a pointer to the terror that the APC is planning to unleash on the people of the state during Saturday’s re-run,”he said.

Obuebite, therefore, called for thorough investigation into the matter, adding that, this is the only way the people in the state will have confidence in the security personnel.

According to him,“it is sad to note that, some top politicians and ex-militants alleged to be responsible for the botched December 2015 governorship election in Southern Ijaw local government area are still working freely, without being arrested by the security agencies.”

About Scholarship
At the inaugural plenary of the India – Africa Forum Summit held in New Delhi in April 2008, the Honorable Prime Minister of India announced the Government of India’s initiative to enhance the academic opportunities for students of African countries in India by increasing the number of scholarships for them to pursue undergraduate, postgraduate and higher courses.

The ICCR – Indian Council for Cultural Relations – implements this scheme on behalf of the Ministry of External Affairs.

Eligibility
*.Students applying for doctoral/ post doctoral courses should include a synopsis of the proposed area of research.

*.Students wishing to study performing arts should, if possible, enclose video/ audio cassettes of their recorded performances.

*.Candidates must have adequate knowledge of English.

*.ICCR will not entertain applications which are sent to ICCR directly by the students or which are sent by local Embassies/High Commissions in New Delhi.

*.Priority will be given to students who have never studied in India before.

*.No application will be accepted for admission to courses in MBBS/MD or Dentistry/Nursing.

*.Candidates may note that Indian universities/educational institution are autonomous and independent and hence have their own eligibility criteria which have to be fulfilled. Please also note that acceptance of application by the University is also not a guarantee of admission. A scholarship is awarded only when admission is confirmed by ICCR.

*.Student must carry a proper visa. Students should ensure that they get the correct visa from the Indian Embassy/High Commission.

Government of India guideline stipulate that if a scholar arrives without proper visa and his/her actual admission at the University/Institute does not materialize, he/she will be deported to his/her country.

*.Before departing for India the scholars should seek a full briefing from the Indian Diplomatic Mission in their country about living conditions in India/the details of scholarship/the type and duration of the course to which he/she is admitted. Scholars should inform the Indian Embassy/High Commission of their travel schedule well in advance so that ICCR can make reception and other arrangements for them.

A criminal masquerade has been paraded alongside others after he was nabbed by the police for murder.

Men of the Nigeria Police Force
The Nigeria Police, Kogi State Command, yesterday, in Lokoja, paraded 21 suspected criminals, including kidnappers, armed robbers and others said to have been terrorising the people of the state in recent time.

According to Vanguard, among those paraded was a‘masquerade’who during a festival, stabbed one Ishak Yusuf to death.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Williams Aya, who paraded the suspects at command headquarters, said:

“The ‘masquerade’ (real name, Shaibu Musa) of Okene town in Okene Local Government Area of the state and eight others (now at large) conspired and in the disguise of celebrating Ekhechi masquerade festival brought out the Obiede masquerade to terrorise the people. In the process the ‘masquerade’ engaged the deceased in a fight and stabbed him to death.”

Aya, however, said although the suspect denied taking part in the fight during which the deceased was killed, he admitted that on the said date, himself with his colleagues attended the Obiedu masquerade festival at 11p.m.

Another suspect, Aliu Umar, was arrested in connection with the kidnapping of Usman Waziri of Fulani Camp, Ogale in Ijumu Local Government Area of the state in July.

Aya said after kidnapping the victim, they demanded for N1 million ransom and subsequently released him after the payment of the ransom.“The men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, however, arrested Umar in Isua-Akoko, Ondo State following the complaints by the victim,”he added.

Wuse Zone 4
Located in the city center, this area connects the rest of Abuja to strategic places such Shehu Musa Yar’Adua centre, shoprite, arts and culture village amongst others. One would hardly notice a sign of the activities that go on in this place but at night, its a red-light district.

The presence of a motel just before the Zone 4 bridge has made it almost impossible for the past administrations to stop this meance as it has become home to ladies of easy virtue.

Kubwa
Kubwa is the fastest growing satellite town in the FCT, this is because it is home to most civil servants and low income earners who cannot afford the luxury of having a house in the city centre. The choice of this place by most residents asides the relatively cheap cost of houses, is due to its proximity to the city centre, security and livability of social amenities like good motor-able roads, potable water, relatively constant electricity and a functional government health facility.

In addition to the already existing hotels, trending in this part of Abuja is the conversion of houses meant for residential purposes to hotels. There is presently no street in kubwa without two or more hotels. Also, the presence beer palours, lounges have greatly encouraged the business of commercial sex. One of such lounge is Movida.

Popularly called ‘Woman boku’, a phrase in Pidgin english which means ‘plenty women’, this is the most notorious place in Kubwa for commercial sex as it plays home to young women from all parts of the country who are out to make ‘quick money’ through prostitution.

At night, semi-naked girls, and few older women in this area would beckon young men with different form of body language and gestures. Most males take alternative routes to their destination to avoid such embarrassments.

A resident of Kubwa who gave his name as Jerry told NAIJ.COM that a night cost as much as N3,000 depending on your bargaining power.

He said, ”Well, I used to visit this place before I got married. Depending on how good you can bargain, one full night would cost as from N3,000 and above.”

An interview with one of the young girls who simply gave her name as Lizzy, revealed that the place has been in existence since the late 80s. Lizzy who spoke in smattering English blamed the unemployment situation in country as reason for this menace.

Garki II

Utako
Unlike other areas, commercial sex in this part of Abuja is done in such a way that no one would really suspect a thing. Here, young girls usually between five to eight people would pair to get a house, go out mostly at nights, then return home in the morning. Some of these girls also host their male visitors who usually live in the mornings

Most succeeding students act discrete and can be overly protective of the ideas and tricks they employ to succeed. They rarely talk about their plans and goals, you scarcely know when they study and they’ll usually not announce or show off how good they are; we only get to see their results and wonder how they do it.

The truth is intelligent students have techniques and tricks they apply to stay atop of the class but will not readily divulge same to you unless you are a very close friend.

Smart and academically successful students keep calm, talk less about their academic achievements and don’t readily discuss how they do it, because of:

They enjoy the glory and bliss and don’t wish to share
To be viewed as the smartest dude in class causes other students to look up to your for solutions and help to difficult topics. This then comes with a form of glory you enjoy and prefer to not share with any other students.

In simple terms, intelligent students won’t tell you how they do it so you also don’t get to be on the same pedestal with them. They want to be considered superior. Don’t start hating; you will want same if you are in their shoes.

To eliminate Nay-Sayers and negative students
Academically successful students will keep their plans away from you because they don’t trust your judgment. Their plans are always lofty and many other students will laugh at them and talk negative if they get to hear them. So, why should they tell you if they aren’t sure you will think their aspirations are unattainable?

Humility
For some, their secretive attitude is spurred from their humble attitude. They wouldn’t like to appear proud so they keep their tips and techniques to themselves however, they’ll be willing to let you have them if you approach them and ask.

My point here is that, if you aren’t succeeding academically it will be wise for you to approach the smartest kid in your class and sincerely ask her to let you in on how she has been able to amass those ‘A’s that have cumulatively produced a strong grade.

Believe it or not, excellent students have got some tricks or techniques you are yet to know. The day you know and put them to use will mark a significant turn in your academics.
